Would Auri fit into the way you learn?

Hi everyone,

I’m Jane, founder of Auri. I spent seven years leading the robotics team at Segway, after studying at Carnegie Mellon.

When I’m learning something, I’m rarely just reading, watching, or listening. A passage in a book, an idea on a whiteboard, or something I hear in a podcast can make me want to ask a question, capture a thought, or save it for later. I started building Auri because I wanted those moments to feel like a natural part of learning, without constantly having to stop and switch tools.

But I don’t yet know where Auri would be helpful—or where it would just get in the way. That’s what I’d love your help understanding.

I’d love to speak with adults (18+) who regularly learn from books, articles, notes, work documents, whiteboards, videos, or podcasts—on paper, on a screen, or through audio.

Would you be open to a 30-minute conversation with me?

We’ll chat privately online in English about how you learn today, watch a short concept video, and hear your honest thoughts—no prep or public post needed.

As a thank-you for completing the interview, you can choose $20 or an Auri prototype to keep when it’s ready.

Book a 30-minute conversation →

Thank you for considering it! I’d really like to hear what you think.

Jane
Founder, Auri

I wanted to simply doomscroll less and study more, but found something in between??

Hi guys, I want to share my opinion of the app I started using not so long ago, and now I have a 32-day streak. It's called the Nibble app, and it offers general knowledge lessons and quizzes. At first, I wasn't sure about it, but then it hit me that it's a perfect alternative to doomscrolling (well, not that ideal because I still scroll, but at least it's healthier).

When I commute or wait in lines, I play games like Candy Crush and every possible game similar to it. At some point, I was doing that on autopilot, so whenever I have a few free minutes - this is what I do. I don't even think that I liked doing it, but I still do.

But I tried Nibble and found my perfect alternative. I didn't learn anything new for almost a year, and now I almost daily go through their quizzes on Art, History, Physics, and many others. Last night, I didn't understand some facts about the Wall Street crash when I was finishing the History lessons about how the market actually recovered briefly and thought that it wasn't true, and I ended up reading articles proving it is true and explaining what exactly happened.

I missed the feeling of doing that. So, if you have a similar situation and do too much scrolling and not really think about using your phone less, at least now, you should try this app.

made a pomodoro timer where a little dog falls asleep while you focus

Post image
2 Upvotes

hey all, just made this and I'm kind of nervous posting it

it's called Puperino. basically I kept downloading pomodoro apps, using them for a week, then forgetting they existed. they all felt a bit cold and serious. so I made one with a little dog called Biscuit in it.

when you start a focus session he wanders over to his bed and curls up and naps. when you're done he sometimes brings you a little gift, which you can keep or trade for bones to buy stuff for his room. you can also dress him up, which I spent way too long on (he has a witch hat and a crown, it's very important)

not gonna lie, not wanting to wake him up has kept me focused better than any streak thing ever did 😅

it also does the usual stuff: the timer on your lock screen, tasks, stats, and a stay mode if you're like me and pick up your phone every 4 minutes

it's free. there's an optional pro with more rooms and stuff if you want to support me

would really love feedback, even if it's "this is buggy" or "this is pointless" haha. what would make you actually keep using a focus timer?

Why do we pay so much to learn skills when someone else is willing to teach them? 🤔

Hi all,

I finished my PhD in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Strasbourg in 2025. A few days ago I'm launched WoSM Academy (Wisdom of Starving Minds), a project I've been building to make rigorous technical education free and open to everyone.

What it is
Free courses, with no application. You sign up with your email on our Moodle and enrol.
Starting with two subjects: Computer Science (Introduction to Informatics, Digital Design & Computer Architecture, Data Structures & Algorithms) and Mathematics (Discrete Structures).
Courses come with materials and exercises, and a Discord community to learn with others.

If you're interested in this project, message me or email ali.khudiyev.99@gmail.com. I am also curious about your thoughts and feedback for improving everything further.

How to teach applied economics?

I am studying applied (mathematical) economics. I have 1 year left and I need to find a job. But I understand that I don't know anything. I try to somehow plan, set goals, but it is very difficult to remember at least some of what I learn. Maybe you know some methods of learning and memorizing information?

Autodidact with ADHD fighting Pearson Education NSFW

Hi, I am an autodidact who never attended high school but taught myself straight into college courses after earning my GED. My favorite subject is math, and I am an engineering major, go figure. Anyway, for the first time, I have encountered Pearson's online platform and am losing my f**n mind. Right now, I am circumventing the program as much as humanly possible, but I am still forced to take HW, quizzes, and Exams through them. Any advice, tips, or CEO-hunting strategies you can lend a girl?

What are the courses y'all would suggest for upskilling onself across fields? (viz.: food, automotive, healthcare, fitness, or any other for that matter)

...among platforms like Coursera, Edx, Harvard online, etc.

Let's discuss.

Is switching between source material worth it?

Im studying computer science and there's this 11 hour video that seems pretty comprehensive about computer science, however I only have 2-3 hours of time to study CS, so I want to have it so that I rotate between watching that video and doing actual hands-on stuff like my Arduino and programming projects.

But would that be too much mental noise? Should I finish one thing before starting the next thing? I figure it wouldn't be too bad since it is the same subject matter.

Day 1: Computer Science Video

Day 2: Arduino/Microcontrollers/Electronic repair (I have a roadmap for this that I'm following)

Day 3: Working on a programming project.

And then rotating between the days. 1 - 2 - 3 - 1 - 2 - 3.

Looking for helpful certifications.

Hi all. I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Atmospheric Sciences, and am working in a lab testing building materials for weather resilience. I’m a technician who operates machines, performs tests, and QCs data. I want to further my abilities as a lab technician, scientist, and meteorologist. My job will help fund education, but I’m wondering what certifications would be most beneficial for me? And how do get the most out of them?

Bookidoro update: it’s on iPhone and iPad now, plus shelves, highlights and quote cards

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hey everyone, maker of Bookidoro here (Pomodoro for books). A while back I posted the Mac version, which shows you a few pages of a book during your work breaks. A lot has changed since the free classics update, so here’s a roundup:

New platforms

  • iPhone and iPad. There are no breaks there: you start a focus session, and your book waits for you on the lock screen. You can optionally block distracting apps until the session ends. On iPad in landscape, you get two columns of text.
  • Mac App Store. Bookidoro is now on the App Store for Mac, iPhone and iPad.
  • Sync. Your library, reading positions, shelves, highlights and statistics sync through your own iCloud, so you can read a few pages on the Mac and continue on your phone.

Reading

  • Shelves: organise books into your own collections; a book can sit on several.
  • Highlights: colour labels (Quote, Idea…) and notes, all searchable in one place.
  • Typography: pick the typeface and text size for EPUBs.
  • Go to page with ⌘G.
  • Calmer reading panel, with the current chapter at the top.
  • Backgrounds: a pattern or paper texture behind the page instead of the blur.

Library and stats

  • Redesigned library: the book you’re reading up front, with the time left and your totals.
  • New statistics: week, month and year views, your streak, and when you read most.
  • 75,000+ classics from Project Gutenberg, a click away.
  • Fixes: sync between devices, and statistics no longer count pages you only skimmed.

Quote cards (new, Pro)

  • Turn any passage into a 9:16 card, or an animated video where the words appear one by one, for Instagram or TikTok.

Everything else is free: no account, no ads, and your books never leave your devices. Pro is an optional yearly subscription, one for all your devices.

I’m a solo dev, and a lot of this came straight from feedback here, so thank you! I’d love to hear what you think, or what’s still missing for you.

When you last tried learning a difficult skill, where exactly did you get stuck?

I’m interested in what makes independent learning frustrating in practice.
Think about the last time you stopped making progress: did you struggle to choose what to practise, understand a mistake, get feedback, or something else?
What did you try next? Did a course, tool or tutor help? I’m exploring whether there’s a useful problem here to solve.

Built a Claude Skill that turns lecture notes/PDFs into a structured Obsidian knowledge base

Post image
11 Upvotes

I got tired of taking notes that never turned into anything useful, so I built Smart Notes - a Claude Skill that reads your study materials (PDFs, transcripts, readings) and builds out a proper Obsidian vault from them.

What it does:

- Creates linked notes per topic, not just a dump of text
- Maintains an index showing how topics relate and where coverage is thin
- Tracks your progress and flags knowledge gaps
- Generates adaptive flashcards targeting your weak spots
- Updates existing notes instead of duplicating them when you add new material

It's free and open source: https://github.com/OnePathToFreedom/smart-notes-skill

Would love feedback, especially from anyone already running an Obsidian-based study system.

How can I improve my writing and comprehension skills? I feel dumb

I have ADHD and I’m medicated for it but I really suck at writing essays and articulating myself. I feel like I can’t form sentences together and I see how well people speak and write but I just sound like a 12 year old. My comprehension skills also suck. I struggle to understand concepts especially when it comes to uni. I’m studying psychology and this makes it so difficult because I feel so dumb. As a kid I was never really taught and I wasn’t able to pay attention in school so as a 25 year old it impacts my work and school life a lot. Any tips?
