Breed Questions Interested in a Schip puppy
I’ve been a dog owner for the majority of my life, and I feel heavily drawn to these little chaos goblins. I’m a stay at home mom to a 12 year old, my husband works from home 4 out of 5 days a week, and I’m looking for a little partner in crime to occupy my time with. I’m attracted to their energy, their curiosity, and their demand for attention. I have not met one in person, but I have researched these pups to the end of the earth. I feel well equipped to provide socialization, obedience training, agility training, etc. I have adhd and from my understanding, they do too. To me it sounds like a match made in heaven. I don’t mind the barking, I have the yard space, a pool, and a very walkable neighborhood.
That being said, we currently have 2 female dogs, large dogs, a dogo argentino (9) and a boerboel (5). There is a very clear pack order with my husband as the leader, but he has trained them to be docile babies that love to socialize. I have no concern about introducing a puppy into the house because they’ve been exposed to small dogs and puppies with no issue. Neither dog is a resource guarder. We’re going into this knowing that my husband will not and cannot discipline the dog in the way he is used to.
I think generally it would probably be best to introduce a male puppy into our home, but my research does lead me to believe that the males can be especially demonic.
Surprisingly, there are two reputable breeders within just a few hours of my area, and one actually has puppies that are ready to take home in about a month.
I’m looking forward to the challenge of owning a schipperke, and the delight of a new family member, I just need some anecdotal advice about bringing one into a home with large dogs.
Are my dreams of a little Bosun far-fetched?
