Game of the Month OCT '26 GotM - Parasite Eve (PS1)
Happy October, SBCGaming. You voted for it, so here it is: the game with the SECOND most iconic opera scene in Squaresoft's history: 1998's Parasite Eve. It's a bit of a mashup between a JRPG and a Resident Evil style survival horror title, with a turn-based active time battle system combined with real-time movement. This is a new one for a lot of the mod team, but it made it onto the poll on the strength of several sub members' suggestions, so we'll be excited to discover it alongside you!
As always, you have a year from the announcement date to complete any previous Game of the Month for flair, making this the last month to complete last November's pick, Alien Hominid. Post a picture of your end screen as a top-level reply to the most recent Game of the Month post to receive your flair. And stay tuned for next month, when we'll be doing another "Username Presents" GotM pick!

Showcase I love my FunKey S, but always wished there was a tiny DS. So I started making one.
I've always had a soft spot for ridiculously tiny handhelds. I absolutely love my FunKey S, but one thing I've always wished existed is a similarly tiny handheld for DS games.
Couldn't really find anything like that, so I figured I'd try making one myself.
Got my first custom PCB today, and after fixing one mistake with a bodge wire, it actually works! White 2 is running, touchscreen works too :)
Also 3D printed a rough shell just to get a feel for the size. Still a lot to figure out, but honestly I'm just really happy to see it working.
Anyone else wish there were more tiny DS handhelds? Or am I the only one obsessed with making these things smaller and smaller? lol

AI Assisted Soon - DSktop OS
I was looking at the RG DS+ and thought, “Why not try turning this little guy into a mini laptop?” So I started researching the possibility as a fun little side project and proof of concept. With the help of AI, I’m building the DSktop.
The idea is to create a relatively functional desktop, taking the hardware’s limitations into account, that can handle simple tasks like browsing the internet, editing documents, reading pdf, checking email...
The top screen will serve as the main display, while the bottom screen will act as the keyboard and trackpad, just like a laptop. It’s also already possible to use the analog stick as a mouse and the A and B buttons as mouse clicks.
This is just a project to push the limits of the RG DS+ and test the development capabilities of Gemini 4 Argon.

Question What's everyone's opinion on Konkr Pocket Advance? And why do some people want it have joysticks?
It looks perfect for people who love to delve into GBA nostalgia which is why I don't really understand why people kept talking about how it needs joysticks?
Would kinda ruin the entire point and aesthetics of it Konkr Pocket Advance since there's plenty of other handhelds with joysticks or a joystick.

Review Miniloong Pocket 1: A 1-Day Quick Review
Hello!
Just got my new Miniloong Pocket 1 yesterday and thought I'd give a quick and dirty review. I gotta say...the other reviews were right, this little thing is great!
I immediately installed LeafOS after watching RetroGameCorps talk about it. I love the interface but the main selling point is the 5 Game Mode. As you can see from the pic. With the 1000's of retro games I always dump on these things, it's nice to force myself to focus on a few to actually complete.
Build quality on this thing is great! Feels very solid, not light/plasticky/cheap. Buttons feel good, clicky but not loud. The size is nice and pocketable too, I won't mind tossing this in my car or bag. I'm so cautious with my Odin 2 Portal but the Miniloong is cheap and small, it's gonna be my go-to carry-on for most occasions.
The screen is nice and sharp as well! 4inches is a great size for travel. My old eyes struggle with anything smaller, and to be honest this is kinda pushing it, but it's so clear and bright that I've enjoyed playing on it still.
I was initially worried because I have big hands and this Miniloong is on the smaller side, but after playing for hours it hasn't been bad. I'm pleasantly surprised. The ergo bumps on the back are a nice touch as well. Reminds me of the RG406H in a way.
Of course the one negative I can think of is the single speaker, although it's placement hasn't been an issue for me (shocking with my fat hands lol). Honestly, I'm using this to play games up to the N64 and PS1 era and the sound has been nice for those, not missing the stereo sounds.
For the price, this has definitely been the nicest experience, a recommendation for sure.

Showcase Back on 2008, DS Lite and PSP are my first handhelds I learned how to fix and tinker.
Now after 18 years, I'm still tinkering them.
Love these two consoles, happy that they both have Laminated Screen mods now.

EDC After the trail and camp set up before dinner.
RG 28XX in the process of loading up Summon Night: A Swordcraft Story. Done with trail and camp set up, had some time to lounge and relax before dinner. I keep this thing in my pocket every day.

Lounge Nothing like beating the Elite 4 before lunch
Retroid Pocket Nova, Pokemon Platinum.
Managed to finally finish Platinum. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's the first time I saw it through entirely. Ate Cinthya as an appetiser before lunch.
This has gotta be one of the best E4 in all the generations. What's your favourite elite 4? What's your favourite gen in general?
Next stop? Finally playing through Black/White. Yeah, I have a huge DS gap in my pokemon resume.

Lounge What’s everyone playing this Spooky Season?
I’ve just found out about this game. It looks loads of fun, so thought I’d grab it and spend some time with it as my game to play through October (or what’s left of it 😜)
What’s your go to game for this time of year?! I’m running Slot. On my RG34XX SP so any GB/C/A game recommendations would be greatly appreciated. 👍🏻

Question Anyone know why the KT Pocket R2 isn't talked as much?
Even reviewers don't seem to talk about it as much online or on Youtube, Even all the big named retro handheld youtubers didn't make dedicated videos reviewing said Android Handheld.
Which I find kinda confusing since I remember the KT Pocket R1 used to have videos made by emulation Youtubers either as reviews, first impressions etc.
Seems like a fantastic handheld, you get the option of:
- D pad on top gives you SNES face button layout.
- Joy stick on top gives you Xbox face button layout.
- Can choose Plastic, Aluminum or Magnesium for the main body.
- Different colors.
- Option of either 4:3 or a 3:2 Display.

Showcase Loving my Flip 2!
Super happy with this thing. It's comfy and runs pretty much everything I want it to x)
I have to boot into Armada to play Spelunky 2, but other than that it's been a great experience.
I also have a RG SP that lives in my pocket for playing older 2d stuff.

Showcase My $65 Daily Driver
Anbernic RG SP (Pearl Pink) playing LOTR: The Third Age (GBA) with color correction and LCD3x shader
Preface this be saying it’s only been a week, new car smell, etc. but like many of you here I like having handhelds dedicated for certain consoles and use cases. Before last month, my EDC that I would throw in my jeans any time I left the house was a Miyoo Mini Flip, then I got a Pixel 2 for that purpose and really enjoyed it for a few weeks until I fell asleep with it in my pocket and cracked the screen. That event gave me the excuse to try out the RG SP as a replacement and boy am I happy I did.
Build quality is great, the hinge is DELUXE and with Slot OS it’s a joy to pick up and play. Battery was my main complaint with the mini flip and this thing blows it out of the water there, I find myself using it all throughout the day in spurts and at night playing even longer because it still has juice and is just so easy to use.
For $65 out the door I can’t believe how much I’m loving this thing and while I miss the size of the mini flip this is still small enough where I can bring it pretty much anywhere with me. Buttons are clicky but after 10 minutes with it I tuned them out.
How’s everyone else liking their RG SP’s?

Recommend a Device DS or my old RP4 for 7 year old
My six year old had a miyoo mini since she was four and she’s just loved it. I’m trying to decide if I get her a DS device for her birthday or just give her my RP4 pro. I never had a DS device so not sure if it’s worth it for that she group.

Question ES-DE Linear theme how do I resize system images?
Hoping someone can help me, I have searched but as the Linear theme is built in I've not found an answer to what I want to do.
As you can see I have my RP Classic setup as just a GB/GBC which has been loads of fun!
I really like the blue of the Linear theme matching (almost) the blue on the handheld.
Anyway, what would make it perfect is if I could make the system and folder images in the view above bigger, double in size would be sweet!
I've not found a way to do this, anyone know how?

News Porting Retro-Go to the GKD Pixel II
Curious if there's any demand for this or if it's just me but I really wanted this launcher on more devices so I made an SD bootable version of the Sylverb fork of Retro-Go, this time for the GKD Pixel II. If there's much interest I'll release it when I'm happy with it.

Showcase Metroid Dread on the Odin 3 is PEAK
I bought this game at launch and it took me this long to finally get around to playing it, but man, what a fuckin banger. Growing up, Super Metroid was my favorite game but I think it's safe to say that Dread tops it because of how smooth and stylish it is. Even Samus herself so fuckin badass in this.
And the Odin 3 itself is fuckin awesome, as I'm sure everyone knows

Question Having a lot of trouble flashing RGDS plus stock firmware onto a better sd card. (MacOS)
Hello all, I am having a lot of issues flashing an sd card with the stock firmware onto the anbernic website.
To those who have done this with previous h700 or RGDS plus devices on Mac, how did you do it?
- What flashing software did you use?
- Does the size of the sd card have to match exactly to the firmware? (16gB ONLY, no 32, 64 etc)
I am using an Amazon Basics sd card and sucussfully flashed gammaos and bananaos onto it, so I don’t think the sd card is the issue. Whenever I load stock firmware, it seems to work, but I am stuck on the boot screen.
SOLVED! When you use Raspberry Pi imager, make sure to “skip verification”. I skipped the verification and it worked instantly!
