News Warning: fake Stardew Valley Miyoo Mini port contains Windows malware

I’m the developer behind the Stardew Valley port for the Miyoo Mini. I was googling it and came across a site at anannj8036[.]github[.]io advertising another download using my project’s name.

It’s malware.

Their Release-v2.3.zip contains three files: Application.cmd, utils.exe, and cert.txt.

The launcher runs a Windows Lua interpreter, and the “certificate” is an obfuscated lua malware script.

The decoded script captures your desktop and sends the screenshot, Windows username, computer name, and other system details to a remote server. It also contains code to add Defender exclusions, persist through startup entries and scheduled tasks, and download and run additional payloads. Those actions depend on instructions from the server.

—-

This has nothing to do with my release. They’re using the project’s name to get people to run malware on their PC.
The actual project is here:
https://github.com/Producdevity/stardew-valley-miyoo-mini-port

Please don’t run anything from that other site. If you already ran their launcher on Windows, treat that PC as compromised.

—-

IMPORTANT

The account also has a repo using my project’s exact name: github[.]com/Anannj8036/stardew-valley-miyoo-mini-port
Please report it to GitHub for malware distribution. The link is deliberately broken so nobody accidentally clicks through.

Discussion [Ryan Retro] Check your RGSP for bulges

Post image

Just posting this here as a warning because I know that a lot of people on the retro handheld hobby have like a dozen devices inside their drawers.

And one spicy pillow is all it takes to burn down a house.

This is a VERY recent launched device, it absolutely wasn’t supposed to be turning into spicy pillows after 2 months.

WTF Anbernic?

I haven't found a focused guide on Syncthing for android handhelds so I decided to make one myself.
(and also so that I don't have to paste the same txt file on discord every time a buddy asks for directions)

Tell me what you think

Discussion Which retro handheld form factors would you NOT buy if you owned the original hardware?

We are seeing all these exciting new machines (currently DS/3DS style things), but it's not clear to me which ones are basically replacement/upgrade/cheaper versions of the original hardware, and which are their own thing disguised as an old thing.

If you own/owned the original hardware will/would you buy the retro handheld equivalent of it?

For me, owning a 3ds, Vita and PSP makes me very uninterested in those particular form factors, even though I love my Trimui Brick and RG477m.

Recently got a RG406H, loving it, pretty sure I will end up getting a Pocket Nova.

But man I told myself I gonna sell my Magicx Mini Zero 28 after getting the RG, but no, even I almost never use it now, I don't wanna get rid of it. This hobby is really a vice.

Showcase Update on my tiny DS: held together by tape, but it has a OS now

First of all, thanks so much for all the love on my last post! I honestly didn't expect so many people to be interested in this little thing :)

Spent the last couple of days trying to squeeze everything into my very rough 3D printed shell. Turns out I made quite a few mistakes in the PCB and shell design, so nothing really fits properly lol.

The speaker is taped to the outside, some parts are still hanging out, and shoulder buttons are missing. It's a complete mess but it somehow works. Both screens are running, the buttons work, and I've also been designed a OS (with Claude helping..). The video shows how it works so far. Still plenty of bugs and a ton of things to figure out though.

I'm hoping the next PCB and shell revision will finally give me something that actually fits together and opens and closes like a proper tiny DS.

Anyway, just wanted to share this messy little update. Thanks again for all the encouragement, it really means a lot!

Discussion Duo Lite Plus ($199) or Duo ($249) — or should I wait for something better?

Both handhelds are currently on sale, and I’m tempted to pick one up.

My main goal is to play SNES and 3DS games, along with some PS2 titles like God of War and Spider-Man 2.

The Duo Lite Plus seems like a decent deal at $199, especially since it has the same processor as the Duo and includes shoulder buttons. However, I’ve seen some Reddit posts mentioning LED ghosting and limited driver support for its processor, so I’m wondering if I should pull the trigger now or wait for something better.

Would you recommend grabbing the Duo Lite Plus at $199, spending an extra $50 on the Duo for OLED, or waiting for a handheld with a more capable processor and better driver support?

Community Resources Update: my Linux desktop for the RG35XXH can now turn it into a gaming controller

My last post about setting up a Linux desktop on the RG35XX H got way more attention than I expected, and u/boldiatti asked in the comments if it could work as a BT controller for a PC. I thought it’d be a quick weekend thing. It was not lol

But it works now. Made an External Controller app where you pick BT or USB cable. The wired mode shows up as an Xbox 360 controller (rumble works too), BT just shows up as a generic controller for now. Making it act like an Xbox one is next on my list :)

The video is me playing a dumb little browser game I made to test it.

Some other stuff got in while I was at it: a light theme, a bunch of pixel-art icons I spent way too long on, and a fix for a bug where spamming vibration from a controller tester froze the whole handheld (found that one the hard way, three times).

BT only has Windows 11 testing so far and there’s no rumble over BT yet. If you try it on another OS like Android, Mac or Linux, let me know how it goes.

Like always, this project is mostly done by claude. I just do the planning and testing, claude does the implementation.

Any feedback is welcome!

AI Assisted PokeDaisy: a free, open source Pokemon player that brings modern RPG features to the classics

Post image
858 Upvotes

Hey, sharing PokeDaisy, a Pokemon player for Android. It got a lot of attention on EmulationOnAndroid and since then the big addition is DS support so I'm posting it here. The idea is to bring modern RPG comfort to the classic games - on-screen HUD, quick action ring, wider views of the map and live companion that shows everything about your run.

It runs FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal, and now the DS games Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, plus a bunch of ROM hacks like Unbound, SoulGold, Lazarus, etc.. It works on dual-screen handhelds, single-screen handhelds and phones, held sideways or upright.

It’s free and open source with no registration or account needed.

Download: https://github.com/lidor30/pokedaisy/releases/latest
Site and manual: https://pokedaisy.com
Source: https://github.com/lidor30/pokedaisy
Video review of the previous version (all bugs were fixed since): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgIa9PFvwXo

The companion reads the game’s memory as you play and shows your party, bag, map, battle matchups, dex and a spoiler-free guide, all drawn in the game’s own menu style. On two screens it sits on the second one and swapping screens is an option. On one screen it slides over the game or locks beside it and in portrait it docks under the game. Almost everything is customizable - the HUD’s layout and look, the tab bar, buttons, hotkeys, shaders, overlays and themes.

Features

  • HUD: party, minimap and Poke Balls on the game screen, tap for a summary on the map or the bag
  • Quick menu: press L3 for a ring of actions, like a modern game’s weapon wheel
  • EXPAND + ZOOM: the overworld drawn past the screen’s edges, with zoom out and look-around
  • QoL: auto-run, running indoors, PC from anywhere, FLY, bike, fishing rod and Repel in one press, a switch to turn wild encounters off, and reusable TMs
  • Smart fast-forward: slows down for menus, keeps battles fast, and the music stays at normal pitch
  • Party: full summary with exact IVs, EVs, nature and Hidden Power
  • Learn advisor: rates new moves and bag TMs as learn, forget or skip
  • Bag: item descriptions, USE on your party, GIVE and TAKE held items, favorites
  • Battle buttons: fight / switch Pokemon / run beside the battle
  • Battle info: move effectiveness, switch suggestions, and the foe’s ability, item, stats and team
  • Dex: evolutions, wild locations by route, and movesets
  • Guide: hints first with the answer on a second tap, plus the next boss’s team
  • Trainer card: drawn like the game's card
  • RetroAchievements: unlock popups, progress and leaderboards
  • Cheats: GameShark, Action Replay and CodeBreaker, toggled from the companion

Also: save states and rewind, shaders, overlays, launching from ES-DE, Cocoon and iiSU and it can read your RetroArch saves too.

The full list of supported games and hacks is at https://pokedaisy.com/#games. Popular hacks include Unbound, Radical Red, Lazarus, SoulGold, Heart and Soul and Polished Crystal. It runs on any Android 8.0+ device.

Built with AI assistance and the guide pages are AI-written so the app flags them as possibly wrong and asks you to accept that first.

I'm the dev so ask me anything! Feedback and bug reports are welcome on GitHub, site or subreddit.

Discussion Built in stylus for RG DDS - how important is this?

• Upvotes

I've been reading the comparison threads between the Anbernic RG DDS and Retroid Pocket Duo, and my personal take is I generally prefer what Retroid is providing. Lower price, OLED and larger screens, shipping times...

I'm not too worried about the power issue as I don't really play those high end system games through emulation. For the same reason, I'm not overly concerned with sick placement.

A minor thing I might potentially like about the DDS is the software interface, although obviously that has yet to be confirmed.

The major thing the DDS has going for it is the built-in stylus IMO since I am always losing those things, not to mention convenience. Also by the description, it looks to be a nicer one than the ones you would buy off Amazon. But I am torn by whether this one factor is with cancelling the Pocket Duo for. If only the Duo had a built in stylus there would be no comparison, but sadly it lacks this.

Anyone else here feels the same, what would you pick?

AI Assisted I adapted classic Red Alert for both screens of the Anbernic RG DS Plus

I've been working on Red Alert DS Plus, a port of the original Red Alert for the Anbernic RG DS Plus running ROCKNIXDS. It's based on Vanilla Conquer.

I put the battlefield on the bottom touchscreen and the radar and army statistics on top. The menus are larger for touch, and the construction panel opens on the left. You can zoom the battlefield and recall squads with A, B, X and Y. Placing a building takes a second tap to confirm.

No game files are included. You need your own original USA CDs of Red Alert, Counterstrike and The Aftermath. Installation instructions and source code: https://github.com/aumVilohm/red-alert-ds-plus

If you find a bug, please open an issue with screenshots and run.log. Thanks to the Vanilla Conquer contributors. AI tools were among the tools I used in this project.

Since getting my Thor the biggest let down was the triggers I've tried some 3d printed options but there was always something missing about it. I loved the LM3D design the most so I've added a textured feel to it which is insanely premium and great to touch and hold. Without further ado i want to share this amazing remix with u guys enjoy!

Here's the textured Ayn Thor Triggers. Enjoy!

I thought this was gonna take longer but managed to beat it in about 4 hours. It's a 21 battle tournament challenge thingy, but is based on the History of the Whack a Hack forums (A very popular Spanish Pokemon ROM Hacking community) and was released to commemorate their 20th anniversary.

Question What happened to AyaNeo Pocket play?

Post image

I remember it being announced months and months ago but I haven't a peep since then though granted I took a bit of a break from looking at emulation stuff.

Is it just taking a really really long time? or is it just quietly forgotten by the company?

Recommend a Device Trimui Brick vs. Batlexp G350

Post image
• Upvotes

After doing some searching, I found the Batlexp G350, which seems like a nice console; I like the tan color and think the joysticks will help when playing PortMaster games. Later, however, I found out about the TrimUI Brick, and while it is 12 euros more expensive and does not come with a microSD card, I have heard that it feels very premium and, because it is smaller and lacks joysticks, it should fit in my pocket better. Should I buy the G350 because it has joysticks, comes with a microSD card, and is of good quality, being associated with Anbernic, or should I pay the extra 12 euros for a smaller device that would fit in my pocket better with a sharper screen and higher quality, despite the lack of joysticks? I plan to carry this in my backpack or my pocket.

Lounge Hands on With The Retroid Pocket Duo; A Little More Magic This Time

Well here's my Retroid Pocket Duo review!

As part of it, I've been chatting with the developers behind Eden, Eden Duo, SeedlessDS and Cocoon about their work, the challenges of dual-screen gaming on Android, and where they see things going from here. I've incorporated their perspectives the review, alongside my usual hands-on testing and thoughts about the hardware itself.

I've also spent plenty of time testing everything from Nintendo DS and 3DS through to PSP, GameCube, PS2, Switch and PC gaming, seeing where the Duo does well and where the limitations start becoming apparent. There are some fun things I found when reviewing, and a few things I'd still change. Above all, though, Retroid has once again managed to make a handheld that feels nicely playful (something I love about their handhelds), and 'Nintendo-like', and I've had an absolute blast reviewing it.

As ever, this is a written article (and a very long one at that!), so if you're a fan of older gaming-style sites and features that aren't videos, this might be your kind of read. Hope some of you enjoy this!

Question RP5 or Nova for PokeDaisy GBA?

Pokedaisy looks incredible for GBA pokemon which is a lot of what I play. And it scales to widescreen now which means no black bars on either device.

I have a Thor arriving Tuesday, so Ill probably wait and see. But I'm thinking a single screen might be kinda nice when I'm just playing GBA.

Power wise I think both are good. But which screen is higher quality overall?

I like the pocketability of the Nova and that it's plastic! I love that the RP5 comes in white and the screen is a little bigger.

Thanks in advance!

Showcase The current lineup

Post image
24 Upvotes

Have been back and forth on a few handhelds this year, but think I've got the current quiver pretty well spread out for all my use cases.

Nova

-PS2, GC, Wii, Dreamcast, N64, 16 bit era

Thor Base

-3DS, DS, PSP

Antec core micro (EDC)

-GBA

-PSP

Minimal overlap and each has it's own situational use case, so I'm pretty happy. Haven't really done much switch emulation but the Thor should have that covered if/when I want to dabble.

The Nova is a great all rounder, I'm 50 percent through GT4 currently, it's absolutely brilliant for PS2 and GC.

Not had the Thor for long, but it'll be good to properly get into a few 3DS titles. Bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but 3DS emulation needs a little headroom and brute force to get the best out of it at the moment.

The core micro has been great for taking away on weekend trips, and just having a smaller cheaper handheld I'm less precious about. I originally bought it for GBA, but the 3:2 screen and Helio G99 are surprisingly good for PSP, so I've been using it quite a lot for that.

Beacon across all three, nice and simple. Tried Cocoon on the Thor but was far too gimmicky for me.

For now this is it I think, famous last words though.

You can totally do all of the above on the Thor, which I appreciate, but honestly it feels too premium and fragile to use out and about without worrying about it. The Nova and pocket micro feel like they'll weather a little wear and tear better.

Question Quick question about the RGSP and the slot frontend

• Upvotes

I've been toying with the idea of getting an RGSP as a dedicated GBA machine. The slot frontend looks absolutely perfect for my needs: no frills, blazing fast boot, straight to the point.

But there's a piece of information I haven't been able to get about it: is it possible to turn off all the state saving functions? When you close the lid, when you quit a game... The OS saves and loads a state by default. I get the idea behind it. It's super fast and you dont "waste" time in menus and stuff. But I don't like using save states, and I would rather use only a hard save, like with a real cart.

I would have assumed that an OS that forgoes things like RetroAchievements and such for the sake of authenticity with the real thing would gove you the option to turn off automatic save states, but I can't find any info about it. Thanks!

Question Odin 3 Portal for switch/ps3/360 emulation?

• Upvotes

Just wanted to know if this will be worth if for most switch games and what kind of stats can I expect. Like 60fps at least, smooth 30?

Something i was thinking of is getting the sw1 versions of sw2 games that don't run so well on the regular switch and how the odin 3 portal would boost those in the emulators, if it does.

also wanted to know if this is good for ps3/360 emulation. I know some of the emulators are still earlier stage but just wanted to know if the device itself is capable.
