Question How many inches is too big for Gameboy Advance games?
Since I've heard that some people find GBA games too big for their liking how does that work? I know the GBA was made for a small screen but even when I play it on the Ayn Thor it looks fine to me.
EDIT: THIS IS THE GAME SHOWN FROM THE POST

Question Of course I chose the one game in the library where you need to close the lid…
RGDS Plus, Hotel Dusk: Room 215
This game is SOOO good. I’m a bit upset I can’t go further because on the original DS you need to close the lid and open it to flip the puzzle over. What is the path of least resistance for progressing here?

AI Assisted BioShock - PortMaster compatible devices/CFW
This is one of the most ambitious ports I have been working on after my Stardew Valley port for the Miyoo Mini.
Things have been taking a lot of time lately because of my deliberate decision to use less AI for my personal projects. This has also made me care more about the work I do and will only release it in a state I think is worthy of this amazing game.
Played almost every chapter successfully on the RG40XX-H Knulli and RG35XX-H MuOS. Also run some tests occasionally on the Miyoo Flip (Spruce).
The port will not be released on PortMaster, but it will support all devices/CFW that are supported by PortMaster.
—-
Port will be open sourced when it’s done. Don’t want my work to get “finished” again by someone throwing an LLM at it without the care I have been putting into this.
—-
If you have the means to support my work you could tip a coffee on Ko-Fi. I have set a goal to get a Thor or any other Dual Screen handheld to start creating more software for the DS scene

Showcase BioShock Port Gameplay
I posted earlier today about this, here is a longer video showcasing how it runs :)
Device: RG40XX-H running Knulli
Original post with more details
All PortMaster compatible devices/cfw will be supported and the Miyoo Flip running Spruce too (just because I like using it myself)
Would you consider this playable? There are some stutters that disappear the longer you are playing, but overall runs pretty smoothly if I say so myself 😬

Game Recommendation What a Game, What a Handheld.
Just finished what is probably one of the best games I’ve played as an adult. Chrono Trigger.
Started it well over a year ago on my RG353M, put it down for ages, then recently decided to charge the old thing up and finally see it through.
What a game. The writing, visuals, soundtrack, storytelling, all absolutely superb and well ahead of its time. Pretty sure 10 year old me wouldn’t have had the patience or the understanding to fully appreciate it, let alone finish it. Playing it for the first time as an adult has been a nice experience.
As for the RG353M, this was my very first emulation handheld, the one that sent me down the rabbit hole
My little collection of 4 has changed a couple times over the years but this has always stayed
pocketable, real nice metal build, a great little screen, dual boot Linux/Android and enough power to handle pretty much everything up to PS1, along with some N64 and Dreamcast. An impressive bit of kit when it launched and still a fantastic little device today.
A Masterpiece Finished on the Handheld That Started It All! For anyone new to this madness I would highly recommend both.

Showcase Finished my first game on the Nova, Tales of the Abyss
I started it on the Retroid G2 and finished it on the Nova over several months since games kept coming out on the Switch 2. This was also my first time playing Abyss and I've heard it's one of the best in the series, and it's probably up there with Vesperia. I probably missed a whole bunch of stuff since I noticed I needed some abilities I didn't have to get certain treasure. I also probably didn't understand the combat very much like unlocking skills and comboing, but still powered through since normal attacks were very strong.
I'll probably try to finish Valkyrie Profile 2: Sylmeria next, another rather hard game.

Lounge The Unlikely Story of Yabadabadoo, and Bringing Sega Saturn Games to the Miyoo Mini
I've been chatting with WillHasStyles, the developer behind Yabadabadoo, about how on earth he's managed to get Sega Saturn games running on the Miyoo Mini+. What started with him wanting to play Sakura Wars on his little handheld has turned into an experiment with AI-assisted development.
One thing I found interesting was just how skeptical Will is of AI himself, despite using it so heavily for the project. He's quite open about its shortcomings, and thinks there's a level of creativity and understanding that human developers bring to the table that AI just can't really match. He even doubts Yabadabadoo will ever reach the same level of maturity as a traditionally developed emulator, which I thought was interesting to hear from someone who's managed to get this far with it.
We also chatted about his love of the old homebrew scene, the surprisingly elaborate testing setup he's put together, and what he'd still like to achieve with Yabadabadoo. I really enjoyed hearing his side of things, especially given how much debate there is around AI in emulation at the moment.
Hope some of you enjoy the read here :)
If it wasn't obvious from the post here, AI is used in Yabadabadoo's development, so if you want to skip reading about AI assisted projects, skip this article!

Showcase I printed a dock for my RG35XXH
Original Design credit goes to CPTmurica86 on Thingiverse
I upgraded to the RG35XXH from the RG351P for two reasons: RetroAchievements and HDMI out. Randomly browsing Thingiverse, I stumbled upon a file for a dock. I was instantly hooked. I got them printed, ordered the dongles recommended by the uploader, shoved the dongles in (VERY snuggly, it is practically a perfect fit that you need to shove them in there) and boom, my handheld just got a whole lot better.
The DC out is connected to the monitor so it’s always on the charge, and I have an SN30 Pro connected wired, since my DualSense doesn’t seem to work on it properly. There is the slightest bit of latency if I pay attention close enough, but the games I play pay no mind to it.
This is not the final result, I got an old TV monitor as a test run, and will be swapping it with a 20 inch monitor. They are the only monitors in my home with build in speakers, unfortunately. I will also add some thin felt on the inside of the dock to protect the device from scratches.
If anyone has the means, I would definitely recommend this upgrade to your 35XXH. I was traveling quite a bit the past couple weeks, but since I will be home until Thanksgiving, this will be a fun little boost to this little guy.
And yes, I know my paint job is terrible, I don’t know what I was thinking giving it a coat of paint. At least I won’t need to look at it.

Showcase Reset button "mod" for XX devices to Kid proof a RG40XXH
So I have been testing a few CFW for the XX series.
After learning the hard way that pushing the reset button can corrupt your custom OS, I ended up cutting down the reset button on my RG35XXPRO. It was fairly easy to access by opening the back shelf.
This time I'm setting up a RG40XXH for my son's Xmas gift.
I'm going with Base OS and Omega-zero, which is a fork of Slot, for it's ease of use, speed and being able to switch between systems. So to make sure he doesn't corrupt the whole setup I just did this "mod" to make it kid proof.
For the RG40XXH it was a bit more involved compared to the RG35XXPRO. I had to remove the right shoulder button, disconnect a few ribbon cables, unplug the right speaker and softly lift the main board (which is fairly fragile at the top) just to access the reset button. Then using a plier I just cut down the button slightly above the base to reduce the height.
Doing this the reset can be pressed using a pen or something similar but definitely can't be pressed with fingers.
Omega-zero for anyone interested

News BLOOM preview now available for Trimui Brick/Hammer
Had to check it out immediately as PakUI was my favorite CFW for the Brick.
So far, its absolutely amazing, feeling like the best option out there for the Brick.
Impressions:
1) There's art if you want it. Scraping can be lightning fast, if you just want screenshots.
2) Battery life is great
3) Support for a lot of systems. As much as I like curated CFWs like Slot and TortOS, I also appreciate the options.
4) Different themes, styles built in.
5) Per button turbo-fire!
What's the downside?
One of the themes felt a big sluggish. After hours of fiddling with it. that's the only thing I noticed.
Coming soon to:
- Anbernic: H700 devices, RG351 P / V
- BATLEXP: G350
- Funny Playing: Retro Pixel Pocket 2
- GKD: Pixel 2
- MagicX: Mini M, Mini Zero 28
- MiniLoong: Pocket 1
- Miyoo: A30, Flip, Mini / Mini+ / Mini Flip
- Powkiddy: RGB30, V90s
- Trimui: Brick / Hammer, Brick Pro, Smart, Smart Pro
Amazing work, tenlevels & dammitdan!

Lounge RedOnion (formerly OnionPlus) beta 9 — faster everyday use on Miyoo Mini / Mini+ / v4 / Flip
AI disclosure: The code is written with assistance from Claude. I choose and review every change myself, and each one goes through automated tests plus testing on real devices before release.
Hey everyone, sharing beta 9 of RedOnion (previously called OnionPlus). It’s my personal unofficial build of Onion, based on 4.4.0-beta with Mini Flip support taken from 4.5-dev. Not an official Onion release, big thanks to the Onion team, since this is built on their work.
I’ve been focusing on speed for normal use: boot time, menus, launching games, and switching between them. Testers keep saying it feels smoother. The launcher is Open MainUI 1.0.8 by u/rob472 (open-source replacement for the stock Miyoo launcher).
Changes in beta 9:
- Arabic and Bengali now display correctly everywhere, including in game names
- Roughly 1 second faster to the menu on power-on
- Faster GameSwitcher (saves the running game’s state before switching)
- Settings fixes: no more lost saves when two programs try to save at the same time, and language no longer reverts
- Translation fixes in 13 languages + some Tweaks fixes
If you’re already on OnionPlus, switch to the beta channel in the OTA updater. Coming from official Onion: download the zip and copy the contents to the root of your SD card. It installs as a normal update and keeps your games, saves, and settings. Back up the card first.

Question Cheapest Android handheld I could get away with for gacha games
I'm looking into Android handhelds, I plan to use them for a lot of things but the main driving factor is that I play a lot of Zen less Zone Zero, realistically what would be the price range of a device that can actually run this thing at 30 to 60 fps?

Question Best front end for each?
Trimui Brick
Powkiddy V10
Miyoo Mini Flip
RG Cube
Coming to the end of an 8 year DND campaign this weekend and wanted to gift these to my buddies. Trimui is still running stock OS, the V10 has Knulli I think, Mini Flip is running Twig (spruce fork) and the RG Cube is Android and I just have ES-DE as the launcher.
I’m looking for the simplest and cleanest front ends on each. The Cube I think will just be ES-DE or Daishijo unless there’s something better for Android that I’m not aware of. It’s really the Brick and V10 that I’m most out of the loop on, I think Twig is nice on the flip but am open to suggestions.
Thanks for any input!

Recommend a Device Premium vertical handheld
Hey all, so I'm looking to get myself a mid-range to premium vertical handheld, and looking at the Air Y Pro and the 477V. However, there haven't been released alot of verticals lately and I've got a spidey sense that a company like maybe Retroid for example might perhaps release one of their own.
Anyone else expecting the same? Or can recommend one themselves? Aiming at smooth ps2/gc emulation. Thanks!

News "audiofilus" music player (PortMaster) is a natural fit for our retro handhelds
It's a pixel-art music player for local files and internet radio/podcast with retro-style visualizations and mini games. It also supports YouTube Music (requires user to supply own "yt-dlp" binary) and streaming from Subsonic, Navidrome, Jellyfin, and Emby server. Version 0.5.0 added auto lyric download from LRCLIB and karaoke-style lyric view.
The mini game "Crypt" is essentially a simplified version of "Crypt of the NecroDancer" with your own music.

Discussion How does the Odin 3 compare to X86 handhelds?
I have an Odin 3 (16GB RAM) that I dual boot with Rocknix (emulation) and Android (to take my gacha games on the go) and so far it has run everything I have thrown at it (Arknight Endfield at max settings, Xbox at 2X render res are highlights).
With x86 to ARM translation tech maturing, I am wondering how it stacks up compared to x86 handhelds. Is it more or less powerful than - say - a Steam Deck?
It is definitely much smaller and more power efficient than any x86 handheld I am aware of at least.

Recommend a Device RG477M vs Pocket Nova? Latency and Battery Questions
I had a RG35XXSP but I ended up selling it due to not really using it much and finding the small input latency difference (The timing on Wall Jumps and Dashes for Mega Man and Castlevania games being different from what I am used to kinda just ruined it for me, it seemed like the input required me to be way faster than I would normally have to... skill issue sure but owning a 3DS and the input discrepancy was way more noticeable and verifiable when I had a device that could just play the games natively to confirm my bias that it was harder to pull off certain input combinations in my emulation device)
Anyway, from what I understand more powerful devices that can easily use run-ahead and higher refresh rates should eliminate latency. Am I approaching this right?
Now, Nova is the new hotness and what I was originally leaning to but I just learned that the process for possibly replacing the battery would require shipping it back to Retroid... I understand Anbernic uses generic batteries which would make them easier to replace but I would end up losing better driver support from not having a SnapDragon device...
So curious what would be my options here?
I am primarily looking for up to PSX / Dreamcast Era Emulation but I'd be pretty happy to spend more (Nothing past $300 though) so I can do GC/XBOX/PS2 and GameHub/DroidDeck for stuff like Fear and Hunger / Darkest Dungeon 2 too...
Being dockable for HDMI output would be good too.

Recommend a Device 3ds emulator
Hi! I am new to this, but I am curious about which console is best if I want to play 3ds Pokémon games?
I can't buy a 3ds cos they are over 600$ here used....
I can however, purchase 3rd party devices easily as I can buy direct from factory

Question Anyone had any luck using N64 retroarch cores on a docked Nova? (M64Plus issue too)
Hey folks
So I recently got the retroid dock for my Nova (great device btw) to have a kind of nintendo switch setup and it overall seems to work great minus the initial hiccup of needing to tweak the tv output in the settings cause it defaulted to 4k 120hz or something.
One issue though is that the N64 retroarch cores run way worse docked than they do in the normal handheld mode - for example Ocarina runs really slow and the music is CRAZY distorted. I tried fiddling with the settings and couldn't figure out a good way to resolve this, so I'm curious if any others ran into this and if there may be a fix you can suggest.
I know the consensus is that the n64 cores on the android branch of retroarch are generally pretty bad/inconsistent, but it's odd to me that mupen runs flawlessly in handheld mode unless docking it is just that much of an impact on performance.
I've tried the generally suggested n64 option of m64plus fz and it works great, but two issues I've run into with it are
1) there's zero way to use slang style shaders from what I can tell, and the built in shader options are kinda lacking and basic
2) for whatever reason, I cannot find a proper save file folder for m64plus - I have the storage set to external on my SD card and I can see folders for Ocarina but it seems like the save option in-game either isn't working or saves to a different folder, because all I see are save states. I like syncing my saves across devices so it's a bit of a dealbreaker for me moreso than the shaders
Any help people can offer, I'd really appreciate it! I've looked through guides and such and tried to find other threads on this but sadly can't find anything that resolves any of these issues. 😭
Thanks!
