Discussion So... Plugins are launching on Monday! Who else is HYPED for plugins?

This is 1 feature I have been wanting for many years, and I think it will revolutionize the game in so many ways. Seeing agility spots hit boxes, helping with clues and quests, and even the potential for whole new game modes (tileman, brozeman, etc.). I know all anyone wants to talk about right now is ReIgnited, but plugins are going to be such a gamechanger!

Discussion You can't dismiss why people wanted Reignited and then wonder why they won't "just try RS3"

1.3k Upvotes

I find the reaction on this subreddit since Reignited was cancelled genuinely fascinating, and honestly a little ironic.

I'm seeing posts celebrating the cancellation and then immediately encouraging all the disappointed potential new players to come try RS3 anyway.

Anyone who was excited about RSR was met with:

"Just make a new account."

"Why does it matter that other people are ahead of you?"

"They would've quit after two weeks anyway."

"It's the exact same game."

I feel like some of you genuinely cannot understand that the appeal was never just the game itself. It was the experience of starting an MMO alongside thousands of other people. Populated early-game areas, everyone progressing together, a fresh economy, and just the excitement of a new launch.

Making a level 1 character in a 25-year-old MMO is not the same experience, no matter how many times you insist that it is.

And now that Reignited is cancelled, suddenly we're being told how welcoming the community is and how we should all give the existing game a chance.

I'm sure plenty of existing players genuinely mean well, but from the outside, the past two weeks haven't exactly made this community look particularly welcoming.

Also frustrating is seeing people dismiss the positive reactions outside this subreddit. Jagex itself said that the interest from new and returning players exceeded expectations. Yet some people here seem convinced they know exactly how those players would have behaved, how long they would've stayed, and why their excitement wasn't legitimate.

Reignited actually made me excited to give RS3 a proper shot. Because I wanted to experience that fresh-start MMO atmosphere.

And now I'm watching people celebrate its cancellation while simultaneously wondering why people like me aren't rushing to create accounts on the existing servers

Also ironic how the community can't make up their minds: Was Reignited attractive enough to threaten the future of veteran worlds, or was nobody going to stick around after two weeks anyway?

Oh you have an ability qued to use as your next ability? Better cast 3 basic attacks and an unrelated ability before following the input

Engaging a monster? Want to use the ability you have qued as the opening? Fuck that, here is dragonbreath.

Unintuitive as fuck. This is one of the most janky things I have ever seen.

Suggestion To bring in new players, perhaps it's time to expand the F2P content?

It's now been 9 years since the last major F2P content expansion. With the amount of content that has come into the game since then, I'd say it's about time to expand the amount of content available to F2P, offering a big advertisement opportunity and giving more players an excuse to try out the game.

I personally think it is about time that F2P gain access to Kandarin, completing the trifecta of the three "main" human kingdoms, and filling in a bunch of the holes in F2P's ability to play quests in timeline order.

Reignited is cancelled like we requested, so now it's our time to bring in new players with the amazing roadmap we have ahead of us. Spread news about the game, get your friends in, so they can start preparing their accounts in order to make full use of those 10 days of free membership, get them on the grind so they will be able to partake in the other updates for next year.

Jagex listened, now it's up to us to show them that they don't need initiatives like Reignited to boost playercount.

I don't even alt-Scape like that, but I've started a lot of different accounts over the last 25 years, and thus I've been sitting at a full 20/20 for a while. I was starting to worry that I wouldn't have space to make a new character if a new mode might arise in the future.

Thank you Jagex for listening!

Discussion I'm an RS vet dating back to 2001. I'm perplexed with the communities reaction to RS3

I've been around a long time, I've recently come back after a long hiatus, and I've started playing both RS3 and OSRS, this isn't a one verses the other take, as they're both good games and they have their places. But after spending time with both and getting back into the swing of things, I really do feel like the community doesn't give RS3 a fair crack.

I feel like it respects my time more than OSRS, especially with my limited playtime I get these days and the experience feels really polished, and starting an ironman on both games, I find myself enjoying RS3 a lot more than I find OSRS, even though I have a lot more time in RS2 as a game as a whole (over my entire time playing RS)

I know there is a lot of shit with EoC, but I started out playing it in classic mode which makes the combat more like RS2, and I've slowly dipped my toes into EoC and landed at a happy medium using the resolution? revolution? I can't remember what the mode is called, but it's allowing me to enjoy the new mechanics in a way that makes sense for my hybrid semi AFK way of playing the game.

The questing cutscenes are adorably jank, I must say.

Fluff and smoke blowing aside, I don't understand the low player count and animosity towards the game. I doesn't feel deserved as someone who's coming back into it and meaningfully engaging with both games.

And while were at it, lets be kind to even the paid mods out there looking out for us. If you don't know by now, you will never see it, but they are clearly listening to us and showing they care about our input.

I know I sound like a paid bot or something. I promise you I don't work hard when I'm paid (see username).

I felt a lot of comradery from every walk of RS3 player while protesting reignited. I "just started" playing RS3 (like last year) and I feel like I've been welcomed with open arms.

Regardless how you feel about reignited or the plugins or whatever, I still think we owe it to these guys to cut them some slack, even when we're frustrated.

We will be breaking in these plugins - don't be surprised if theres like bugs day 1.... Bring attention to them asap, but dont be that dude with the "sigh 🤓 typical jamflex" like ye I agree,, but like chill daddy (or mommy).

TL;DR: This isn't a kumbaya LE$TS LOVE EVERYONE post. Just be kind, even when you don't feel like you want to be and even when you feel you don't need to be.

Pic unrelated. But Anya has been chill following me around on recent quests so I thought of including her in this post too.

Discussion It's OK to acknowledge that cancelling Reignited disappointed new players

Fundamentally, it's true that cancelling Reignited hurts the interests of new/returning players to favor existing players.

I see a lot of people wanting to insist that cancelling Reignited is a purely good thing (and I agree that is is a net positive) but you can celebrate while acknowledging why others are disappointed. Yes, Reignited's only real value was hype, but in a world where so many products are fighting for your attention, hype is what people need to give a game like RS a try. The idea of starting fresh and treating this game like it's an MMO that just released yesterday is very compelling. That notion was what made many people want to try RS and it isn't going to be replaced with just the Adventurer's Guide and the Road to Restoration.

However, Reignited was going to be extremely harmful to the game no matter how things played out. It's important to understand that while other MMOs have done soft and hard relaunches, Reignited is a completely different beast. Never before has an MMO told it's existing playerbase something to the effect of:

"You won't be able to interact with new players anymore. Your playerbase is going to shrink and
shrink with no hope of improvement."

Pick any live service game you've enjoyed in your life and imagine how disheartening a message like that would be. This is very different from launching separate but equal titles like WOW Forever versus mainline WOW. It puts the game in a terrible spot where either existing players feel left behind in a stagnant bubble segregated from the rest of the playerbase OR Reignited flops and a few months down the line, new players enter the game burdened with an economy that can't support itself. Then they feel that the game is empty and they quit.

All of which is especially frustrating because it's unnecessary. Runescape is not a competitive game where others' progress hinders your own. There's no tangible value to cutting away existing players, it's purely for hype. And if the game just needs an event to get people excited, there has to be a better way to implement it, either with a temporary Reignited that merges later or generous new player-focused events. I really do hope Jagex tries to do something like this again, just in a more sustainable way and maybe after the Road to Restoration is actually complete.

Suggestion If Jagex wants to revitalize RS3 player numbers they should revisit the idea of allowing us to login to both OSRS and RS3 at the same time.

Jagex, you were willing to do the work to implement Reignited. I'm sure would have required spending some dev hours on server infrastructure work. Now that Reignited has been cancelled, how about taking another look at letting us log into both OSRS and RS3?

I know this has been brought up many times before, and I believe the answer Jagex typically gives is that it would be more work than people realize to make this happen. But isn't that true for so many other things you work on as well? Would the work it takes to allow multi-logins be THAT much more than Reignited? Maybe it would, I could be totally wrong in my assumption about what it would take, but is it at least worth considering again?

There are players on r/2007scape who have said their reason for not playing RS3 is simply that they have to log out of OSRS in order to play RS3. It wouldn't get you extra subscription money like reignited would have provided, but it would give you a boost of new players to the game. Imagine if the active player count on the game doubled from making this change? What would that do to the economy, social aspect, grouping, etc? That alone could inspire other people to subscribe to the game.

Again, maybe not as much money as Reignited would have provided, but it IS something that is more likely to raise your total subscription count compared to some other things. You'd have situations where an OSRS player would try out RS3, find that they like it, and invite their friends to play it with them. Or maybe there are players on the fence who think "there aren't enough people playing the game" who will change their minds if the player count bumps up from this idea.

Speaking candidly, I don't currently have a subscription in the game. I actually was planning on starting a new character for Reignited, but I also couldn't imagine the game surviving long-term by dividing accounts up into Veterans and Reignited players. It just seemed like there must have been something I was missing in all that. Being able to log into both OSRS and RS3 at the same time, however, WOULD feel like added value to my account, which would make me more likely to resubscribe with my main account again.

Anyway, just wanted to propose that you have your engineering team do some feasibility analysis into making our accounts be able to log into both games at the same time.

Discussion Logging into both RS3 and OSRS simultaneously

are we any closer to this being a reality? regardless of what side you stand on reignited not being able to even seperate my osrs iron from my rs3 iron is such a pain as i genuinely enjoy both but refuse to start over. i’m sure there are plenty of people in similar boats and instead of having to pick our game being able to play both even at a small price increase is something i’d do lol.

Discussion Why can’t we just have normal fresh start worlds?

Think I have ~8-10k hours in osrs. Every time I think of a trying a new way to play it’s always between a new type of Ironman or try rs3. I think reignited was weird because like most people, I feel like majority of new accounts would be reignited and eventually number of veteran players would die out, but the thought of a fresh start felt appealing.

Why can’t we have fresh start worlds that eventually merge with the main game? Let them run for something between 3 months and 1 year (idk how fast your average player is gonna progress in rs3) then after that the fresh start worlds become normal worlds.

No special badge, no weird 2 separate games in one game thing, let people try the game fresh and get a fun new player experience.

News Jagex Accounts - Migration Begins Nov 17

Thumbnail

Hello, Gielinor!

Earlier this year, we gave you a heads up that the full migration to Jagex Accounts would be taking place later this year. Today, we’re excited to share the day we’re planning to make the migration happen: November 17, 2026!

On this date, all Legacy accounts will need to make the one-time jump to Jagex Accounts. All you’ll need is your Username or Login Email and Password. If you haven’t upgraded by this date, you’ll be unable to log in until you’ve upgraded.

Previously, we mentioned Steam, Apple, Google & Game Center logins wouldn’t need to do anything. While that remains true for logging in, you will need to create a Jagex Account if you decide to use the Launcher or access some website features (like Support), which ensures we can offer a unified experience for all accounts.

If you haven’t upgraded yet, you’ll see some new reminders when you go to log in to RuneScape or Old School RuneScape. We recommend getting everything sorted whenever it best suits you now just to avoid any unwanted disruption after this date.

Not sure what this all means? Check out this blog for more details!

Discussion Runescape MOBILE

WIth the focus on attracting new players, I'm surprised no one has gone this route yet.

Clean up the UI put some real effort into making Runescape more mobile friendly, clean up the UI spend some time working on some of the bugs and issues across different mobile devices and spend some resources marketing mobile.

There are a whole subset of gamers who play on iPad and their phones, I used to be able to do rasial sub 2 minutes on my phone, it's fun when it's possible. There are lots of new players looking for a new game but would probably run as soon as the UI popped up on mobile.

Tablet and phone gaming needs some thought as being on a 11 inch iPad screen vs a iPhone or S26 allows for different features or ability bars to be displayed at once. I think there's some people to be captured in that market.

Discussion This subreddit needs to pause and reflect on its reaction to this entire situation.

I’ll put this at the top so it’s very clear and obvious:

I am not speaking in support of Reignited. I think it was a bad idea that probably would’ve killed the game for good and I’m glad it was cancelled.

And so nobody calls me a fake vet: My current account has 316 days play time, I’ve been playing since 2008 across multiple accounts and playing my current account since 2014.

The way this subreddit has acted makes me ashamed to call myself an RS3 player. The vitriol, anger, and hate towards anybody that dared speak positively about Reignited has been insane. I have been personally called an OSRS troll, Jmod alt, bot, and a fake RS3 player, for EXPLICITLY saying “Reignited is a terrible idea but please think critically about it rather than emotionally”.

You spent 2 weeks telling anyone who liked the idea, or who said it would make them interested in the game, to stay away. You called them trolls, you called them liars, you said “you were never gonna play anyway” or “you were gonna play for a month and never play again”. Now that Reignited is cancelled, the subreddit is flooded with posts saying “New players come join! Everyone is welcome :)” Seriously? The whiplash is insane. How are new players gonna feel welcome when I AS AN 18 YEAR PLAYER don’t even feel welcome?

New players aren’t “welcome”, you’d rather scream at them on the internet than have them in your game. There are so many comments that are actively opposed to OSRS players joining, Reignited or not, despite them being the easiest demographic to bring over to RS3.

Everyone needs to take a step back and look at the situation with a critical mind. Do you really think the reactions here were reasonable and level headed? Is it normal to viscerally hate anyone who disagrees with you about a fucking medieval fantasy game? Is it normal to lash out at attempts to bring new players to your game, even if those attempts are poorly thought out?

We all love this game. We all love the memories and friends we’ve made. We all remember coming home from school and immediately getting on RS with your friends for hours. This game has touched so many lives and means a lot to so many, myself included. But that’s all it is: a game.

Suggestion hey Jagex, may I humbly request that the corrupt dragon equipment show it's degradation %

Post image
20 Upvotes

everything else in game shows how degraded it is with a percentage. but corrupt dragon equipment does not.

it's degradable and turns to dust after one complete hour of use, but there's no indication on the current degradation status for each piece as they're used until they finally disappear
