RoboParty RP1.
RP1 is a full-stack open-source humanoid robot, built for robotics researchers. Modular hands and heads, live VR teleoperation, step climbing, parkour, 5kg lift, hot-swap batteries, and 240W fast charging.

Quaddle rolling and surviving a patch of loose gravel. Whenever a move fails, it just flips itself back up instead of staying down — driven by Auto Mode on its built-in IMU (tilt, fall, lift/drop, and shock detection all handled the same way).
What would you want to test a small quadruped's movements against?

I simulated this robot dog inside a training platform I built on top of the MuJoCo physics simulator. I built a specialized reinforcement learning trainer with** motion imitation (style reference motions)**: the dog learns to copy a keyframed trot while still balancing on its own, which makes the gait way smoother than plain RL. The joints are limited by realistic hobby servo models (torque, speed curve, backlash, latency), not infinite-strength motors. It trained on my MacBook Air’s CPU for 2 hours (no GPU) and learned multi-directional control (I can drive it with WASD) and balance.

TAKTO ONE is an open-source, tendon-driven hand exoskeleton I built for my master’s thesis: the CAD, PCBs, firmware and build guide are all public. Each of the 12 finger joints has its own magnetic encoder, and the twin in the headset moves from those sensors and two IMUs, not from camera tracking, so a hidden finger still gets measured.
You can play with the twin in your browser, no hardware needed:

Questions are very welcome! if it’s useful, a star helps other people find It :)

Boston Dynamics says its prototype operations team can currently assemble an Atlas humanoid in about one day, with a goal of reducing the process to roughly an hour next year. By keeping precision machining, assembly, repairs, and engineering under one roof, the company can test design changes and replace components more quickly. However, the one-day figure refers to assembly time for an individual robot—not a confirmed production rate of one Atlas per day.

Put Quaddle on a patch of gravel and just wanted to see it walk. Its IMU (gyroscope + accelerometer) was trying to correct for the uneven ground in real time, but it immediately started wobbling — loose gravel is apparently brutal for a quadruped's balance.
What's the funniest robot-vs-terrain fail you've seen?

I'm not a professional in either robotics/autonomous vehicles or motorsport/rallying, but I encounter quite a bit of both in the wild and it seems like the Grand Challenge was really important to the development of:
Autonomous pathing and pathfinding (SLAM), both for passenger vehicles and for more specialized robots that work in factories and warehouses as well as for a growing minority of drones
Modern LiDAR systems
Google's entire X ecosystem
It seems to me like a blue Touareg with a Red Bull livery has contributed almost as much to robotics and AI navigation as a huge chunk of (say) the American space program.

Police have seized a robot in Germany after it allegedly touched a 16-year-old girl's buttocks and 'made thrusting motions against her'.
The 1.2m tall red and gold automaton is believed to have approached the teenager from behind when she was standing with a group of friends.
