/r/roanoke needs moderators!

Have you ever wanted to be called a fascist asshole for attempting to maintain a local online community? If so, I have the perfect opportunity for you! /r/roanoke needs a few moderators.

What this actually entails 99.9% of the time: removing spam and rule-breaking posts, approving posts/comments that automod removed, and answering modmail.

It is unpaid, it is repetitive, and a nonzero number of people will be unpleasant to you in modmail. If that sounds fine, keep reading.

What we're looking for:

You live in or near Roanoke and have for a while. You should know the difference between Grandin and Garden City without looking it up.

You have an account with some history here. New or throwaway accounts won't be considered.

You can actually invest some time into maintaining the community. While the title of reddit moderator comes with unlimited prestige and power, we really need people who will do more than show up once every 4 weeks to maintain an active status.

You can enforce a rule you personally disagree with and you can leave a thread alone when it's just people being annoying rather than breaking a rule.

You're willing to disclose conflicts of interest. Local business owner, journalist, political campaign staff, realtor, nonprofit board, anything where you have a stake in how a topic gets discussed here. We, for better or worse, sometimes become a battleground over such topics.

If you're interested, please submit a response via this Google form: https://forms.gle/jm4iasULR3nPcZhWA

Struggling to find a good paying job

Hello,

Throwaway account as my employer frequents this. I am struggling to find a good paying job ($22 an hour or salary $55K at minimum). I moved from California to back here years ago and have been struggling. I moved back for family reasons. In California, I was making around $70K in salary and now I’ve been reduced down to $18 an hour.

I have a bachelor’s degree from Radford in communications from 2022 and it seems like everywhere I apply thinks I’m overqualified. I don’t think I’m asking for much with the above minimum but I’m completely stumped and don’t know what to do.

For family reasons, I cannot pick up and move back to California. My mom is very ill and will likely pass away in the next 3 years.

Can anyone point me in the direction? Looking for coordinator roles or social media marketing . I’m also open to Project management roles. Are there any positions paying at least $22 an hour or a salary of 55K?

Question Is there anywhere to get aVehicle Inspection while you wait?

I lived in Northern VA for years and there were vehicle inspections available literally everywhere in various gas stations and mechanic shops. I'm in Blacksburg now and they all require an all day situation, most here are backed up for a few weeks even. My dog is recovering (hopefully) from an injury and I can't really leave him alone all day so I was wondering if Roanoke or anywhere around there had stations like they have up in NOVA?

Moving to Roanoke Best Areas to Live

My daughter is looking to attend Virginia Western Community College next fall. We live about an hour and 20 minutes from Roanoke and she is considering living in the area while in school. There is not another school closer that offers her program.

What areas should she avoid? Preferably looking for an apartment just due to not wanting to do lawn care

We are also open to closer but commutable locations. Rocky Mount, Boones Mill?

What suggestions do yall have?

Making Friends Best Buy Zelda Midnight Release 11/5

I know our best buy is participating in the midnight release, but I'm not sure if the store stays open til then or reopens. Either way, fellow Zelda lovers, I assume it will be big. It would be cool to make an event of it, have a party for the line or a party in general! Meet people, make friends, share in the love of a franchise many of us have loved for decades ✨️

The Park Halloween

I’m considering going to the Park alone on Halloween since my plans fell through. Is this a horrible or great idea? I genuinely don’t know because I haven’t been there before.

Edit to add: I mean the club not the outdoors lol

the only issues i have, is that i don't have a car so i was hoping maybe to carpool / ride with someone.

PCP recommendations?

Hello,

My PCP is always booked out weeks and has recently moved out to the middle of no where so I’m looking for a new PCP. Who do you recommend?

Need someone who is comfortable treating ADHD and won’t have an issue with prescribing a GLP-1.
