Hey everyone, this might sound completely crazy and you probably won't believe me, but I just have to get this off my chest.
About six months before the 30th-anniversary update, I was constantly googling and searching for any rumors or leaks about a new Quake expansion. There was absolutely zero official or credible info at the time.
Then, this past summer, I had a very vivid dream. I was playing a Quake level I’d never seen before: dark corridors, a mix of classic monsters and completely new enemy types, new weapons, and—here is the wildest part—the total enemy count on the screen was exactly 296 💀.
Fast forward to August. I randomly open Steam and see that id and MachineGames dropped the Dawn of the Machine expansion. I downloaded it, started playing, and my jaw hit the floor. It felt like a massive dejavu. The dark vibe, the changing geometry, the new guns and mobs—it was almost exactly what I saw in my dream, except the final game version just looked a bit "sharper" and more polished than my subconsciousness could render.
Now, to be fair, I haven't found a single map that has exactly 296 enemies. But the sheer density of mobs—especially on Nightmare difficulty—easily goes way over 200 on some levels, which is still insanely close to what I saw.
Did MachineGames literally break into my brain via Inception to steal my dev-kit blueprints, or has my brain officially turned into a Quake engine?
Let me know what you think, because this whole coincidence is driving me insane.
