Opinyong Pinoy I love the Philippines, I love my country, and I will always be a proud Pinoy
Alam ko marami tayong feels about sa mga tao nag popost ng "Proud Pinoy", and also the fact it's just generally shitty being in a developing country with a shit government. But I love the Philippines, and I'll always be proud of being Filipino.
The negative things, (Eg: the crab mentality, classism, bullying, racism, colonialism mindset, sexism and overt rape culture, and extreme hierarchy of corruption) Are all things every single country experiences, just one look at the US, the supposed "go there get better and get rich country" we view in the Philippines, or other countries we see as an escape from here experiences the same problems, if not more.
I am posting this, because we need to believe we can be better. We need to love ourselves and be proud of who we are. Yes, those shit things are shit and negative, but saying things like "oh ganyan talaga mga Pilipino" or "Eh ano magagawa, Pilipinas yan " or any self deprecation of ourselves and our country won't help. In fact, all it does is lessen the accountability we need to take. By saying "it is what it is" or "that's just who we are" without recognizing what is valid critique or not, we handicap ourselves from being better.
What if, instead of "I hate the Philippines, I hate the crab mentalities, I hate the colonialism mentality etc." and accepting as it is and something that can never be changed, and instead opting to escape somewhere else or forever hating it.
What if, we acknowledge and be better? What if "The Philippines is a wonderful place with wonderful people. The mentalities, the corruption, and colonialism mindset we set and experience is bad, and we should be better, and believe that we all can be better and change those."
We can do this, we've all got each other 💚
