Hi all!
I'm u/ImOkNotANoob, the lead mod here on r/Pigeon. I mostly handle backend moderation, automod, reports, modmail, and general behind-the-scenes bits, which is why you might not have seen me around that much.
Just wanted to post a quick reminder since we've seen an increase in this recently: please tag posts as NSFW if they contain gore, visible injuries, blood, wounds, severe illness, or anything else graphic involving pigeons.
This especially applies to medical advice posts. We absolutely understand that people often post in a panic because they’re worried about a bird and need help quickly. That’s fine, and nobody is in trouble for asking for urgent advice. But graphic images can be upsetting for other users, especially when they appear unexpectedly in their feed. We also want to keep on Reddit's good side, and they've been known to have problems with subs that don't enforce this!
Thanks everyone, and thank you as always to the people who jump in with helpful advice for sick or injured pigeons. We’re proud to be the biggest pigeon community on the internet, and it’s the members here who make this place such a useful and helpful resource.

Hello, one of my birds, Stubbs, has mild canker (caught early) and I’m going to buy him some treatment but wanted to ask if anyone could recommend any that are particularly good? I’m not sure if it’s a case of them all being about as good as each other. I’m a rescue/rehabber based in the UK, and have him in a hospital setup currently.
Options I’ve been looking at are:
Harkers 4 in 1 soluble
Dr PDX Canker relief
Harkers spartrix single oral does tablets
I’m most appealed by the oral tablets as I’ve administered tablets to birds before and they are single dose (plus I would have extra for future cases) but wanted to get some opinions from the community as there’s always someone who’s more knowledgeable or experienced.
Anything you’d recommend needs to be able to ship to the UK fast as I want to treat him asap!

Just my two doves relaxing as usual. Giving them less and less outdoors time in the aviary as it's getting so cold and windy. They don't seem to mind being warm indoors though.

I rescued this pigeon 10 days ago (it's my first one), and lately it's started pecking and biting my fingers whenever I bring them close to it. It's about a month old

He was bathing in his little dish, so I decided to give him something a bit wider. It was quickly approved.

Found a young pigeon with a constantly tilted head — what could be wrong?
Hi everyone,
I found a young pigeon today and initially picked it up because one of its feet was completely tangled in what looked like chewing gum. I’m currently trying to remove it carefully.
However, I noticed something else that concerns me, its head is constantly tilted to one side, and one of its eyes seems to be pointing upward. It keeps its head tilted even when walking.
Otherwise, it seems relatively okay. It can walk normally and is breathing normally.
There were a lot of tear gas grenades and smoke canisters used during a demonstration in the area yesterday, so I’m also wondering whether exposure to chemicals could potentially have anything to do with its symptoms. I don’t know whether there’s any connection.

Recently found a pigeon with an eye infection and took him in. The vets won't help, so I ordered some betadine iodine to try to help the eye.
Today I realized the little guy had feather mites (found one on my arm after cleaning out his eye with some warm water) and I'm wondering if theres any treatment that wouldn't have me spend £20 on those fancy lice and mite sprays.
Honestly I would buy it for him if theres no other way of getting rid of the lice but I'd prefer to get something cheaper or spend the money on something that can be reused and isn't only for birds.
Back to the eye infection, when I brought him home for the first time I cleaned out his eye to find a white rock like thing under his eyelid, I realize now that thats what it looks like when the eye is infected and if left to build up it turns solid. Would rubbing iodine around the eye help at all? I've been giving him some garlic water to help his immune system like someone suggested under other posts about stuff like this, but I really doubt letting him handle it himself is a good idea.
He's been a lot more active these past few days which is a good sign in my opinion, but I really wanna speed up the healing process and make sure he doesn't lose vision in his left eye forever cuz if he does I really doubt I'd ever be able to release him.
I'd also appreciate advice on getting him to eat more. He ate a bunch when I brought him home but now I've noticed his poops are very liquid. On the topic of that, when I brought him home his poops were also a very algae looking green and smelled awful, they've become less green and stinky lately but again, they're mostly liquid now.

TL,DR: Found a pigeon with an eye infection. Would rubbing betadine iodine around the eye help? Whats a cheap treatment for feather lice? Also his poops used to be very green and stinky, turned more normal looking, but now they're mostly liquid.

I recently rescued a pigeon from my mom's back porch where she has dogs so he was in danger for starters but he has a broken wing or something and can't fly.
I literally drove this pigeon from my mom's house in my car to my big backyard where he can roam free and where there's lot of other pigeon friends for him and no crazy dogs especially.
I decided to name him Bernie. I checked on him but I can't seem to find him behind all the clutter he likes to hide by in side of the house. I gave him water and bird seed. What should I do?
Thanks and pigeon kisses to you all.

I recently took home a fletching pigeon from the street. It had an eye infection that stuck its eyes shut (and produces transparent or white slime) and had (still does) an unusual hunched position and fluffed up feathers.
What concerns me more now are its droppings. They're really liquid and lack the white stuff (uric acid I think?).
The pigeon does eat (as long as I feed it since it is still learning to eat) and drink water, but it still stands hunched with fluffed up feathers and closed eyes.
For now I am using an eye cream from an avian vet for the eyes and also something for internal parasites, but I am still concerned that it has some internal organ issues.
If anyone can tell me what causes that kind of droppings I would be really grateful!

Friendly babies I met yesterday!! I spent a few minutes with them and they were so sweet. They’re my favorite animals ever.

We had few hypothermic rescues in the past, we usually use bottles of hot water to warm them up, we were planning to get reptile heating mat. Any better suggestions?

Hallo,
wir ziehen um. Ist es möglich mit meiner Taube eine Bahnreise zu machen? Was meint ihr? Ich überlege so einen Viererplatz (geschlossenes Abteil mit Türen), speziell für uns zu buchen, damit ich sie auf meiner Hand sitzen lassen kann, zur Beruhigung).
Was meint ihr ?
Liebe Grüße

The Sunday morning breakfast buffet! Little Pidglets all lined up. ♥️ Fed a flock of 30 this morning! Hungry birds after another cold night. A group of jackdaws I feed seen me cycling home and actually followed me from the bottom of the street when I shouted on them, and they were perched waiting for their breakfast on the fence by the time I got home😅
When I’m out and about I talk to the birds, I must look insane, do I care? No!!
Do you talk to the birds?
Happy Sunday all!
