Discussion The most painful post I will ever make in my life.
I don't know where else to turn. Due to some recent events this week, it is with teary eyes and a heavy heart that I have to make a tough choice. I will be moving soon and have no one else in my life to help me. I have had my pigeons for almost 4 years now and I have to part with them soon. I have developed severe breathing issues lately and I don't have the time or the money to buy a nice, fancy loft. I moved them into the garage back in February of this year, and now rats have infested the garage and are destroying my property..I will be moving soon anyways in November and i can't take them with me, so I need someone in Chicago who will be willing to give my 4 babies a safe and loving home. Squeaks has been my guy since 2022. Midge was the first baby I ever hatched in 2023. And the 2 girls have been with my 2 boys for 3 years now. So I would prefer someone who can take at least a pair each. They cannot be separated and I will not allow it. Any help/advice is appreciated. I do not have Facebook or any other social media. I have this and YouTube, and I will probably be deleting both of those soon anyways. I no longer feel joy or excitement with social media, and it has honestly become too painful for me to post anything new. I have not slept in 2 days and have been crying constantly. I am not in a good place mentally and worrying about everything in my life right now is just too much for me at this time. I will open my DMs for anyone in Chicago who is interested. Thank you.

Question My pigeon ate a little ball of fuzz/lint
It was like a little fuzz ball or lint, about the size of a pea, he found it and before I could take it away he swallowed it whole. What should I do?

Leaving the house
Hi all! I am in the very early stages of considering a pet pigeon, and have what may be a very dumb question. If I have a pet pigeon, how similarly to say, a dog, could the baby potentially travel with me? Obviously this is not even the same with every dog, and this would not be as broad as parks, restaurants etc, but for example say I 1. work alone in a private office or 2. travel to a partner‘s house for the weekend, is this something a pigeon could potentially be up to come along for? Assuming all of their regular needs could be met in these environments.
I‘m not sure what my life will look like over the next few years, but I‘d be so happy to have a pigeon with me eventually.
Thanks for any insights, and sorry if this is an insanely stupid question - like I said, just starting to think about this :D.
EDIT to clarify - I think my choice of wording saying similar to a dog was a poor choice :) I don‘t really mean walking around outside etc, moreso travel to indoor places that I, as a human, have to spend a lot of time. (ie, office, family, partner‘s homes.

Pigeon Pic My two rescue pigeons ❤️
Ive posted on here (or r/pigeon) about them a few times. I found them without a mother as little babies just starting to sprout feathers, and theyve been doing well! They've started flying recently and fly over to perch on me any time im nearby, and the older one ive started to hear 'coo' every so often 😊
The older one is named Zachi, or 'Sun', and the younger is named Chiza, or 'Moon'. Zachi is much more independent but still flies over to hang out with me and try to preen my face every so often, always energetic and flying around. Chiza is more chill, staying in place, but absolutely loves it when I come over to give them attention.
Im glad ive managed to raise them correctly, as far as i can tell!

Help with weight gain
My boy seems to be just a bit underweight. What can I add to his seed mix or treats to help him put on some weight?

Question Modena breeders?
Good morning! I am doing my research for owning a pigeon maybe next year. I am looking at adopting but also my options with breeders. I’m located in the Midwest and was wondering if anyone knew of a Modena pigeon breeder within that area? I am okay with traveling (for adoption as well).
also give me all your first time owner advice!
Here’s a few questions I have
- are pigeons noisy at night?
- does anyone keep their enclosure in their bed rooms? (I know they are dusty lol)
- best way to clean pigeon pants and how many pairs do you own ?
- what is everyone’s favorite enclosure?

Pigeon Pic First ever eggs!!
My children have laid eggs
They seek to be pretty good?
I’ve read stories about one parent ending up severely dehydrated and starved because they refuse to get off the nest, but my two are always swapping over and it seems to be without fighting either
I’m sued to my fish who straight up forget they have children or eat their own eggs lmao
Ft MilkyWay, who i fed with my own two hands and who used to run to me screaming for food, who just GROWLED at me. A good father 😞

What do you think of my (no AI) pigeon comic for my pigeon comic book?
It’s about Dumpling and his friends, who are trying to break free from society’s bad reputation of pigeons.
This little Kickstarter project means the world to me, and I’m so grateful for every single person who supports it and helps spread the message that pigeons deserve love too. ♥️
My campaign is only live for another 24 hours!
Feel free to check it out and support the project if you can. Every bit of support means a lot! 🐦🫶

Found a pigeon today
Ive always joked about stealing pigeons from the wild. Today, I got to live that dream when I found this poor guy about a foot from the fog line on the road. He looks like he got hit just a little bit and was definitely stunned, but nothing bleeding or broken.
I snatched him up and called a local pigeon rescue that I follow on FB. Hes banded as a racing pigeon (i have no idea what that means). The rescue was able to take him immediately, so he and I snuggled for the 30 minute drive. Ugh, hes such a sweet bird! Send good vibes to this little guy!

Rescue pigeon making me dizzy
Hi!
I have a rescue pigeon that I keep in my room and after I cleaned out the bedding I started to feel very lightheaded and dizzy. What could that be? Allergic reaction ?

Pigeon Pic Rescue baby wants one thing and it's disgusting.
She literally doesn't stop crying until I rest my hand on her. She'll even force her way under my hand so that it ends up on top of her.
I'm not even allowed to burrito wrap her and wrap my arms around, it must be hand to feather contact. Anything less and she cries.
Also, any suggestions for getting rid of hardened food stuck on feathers?

Discussion How do I build trust with my pigeons?
For reference, I've had my pigeons for 4 days at this point, so I'm obviously not expecting them to be best friends with me. We adopted Swallowtail (Male) and Winchester (Female) from a rescue, so they're both adults. Unlike most rescue pigeons, they actually don't have any past issues with humans, they were raised around humans and are accustomed to human contact.
In truth, I'm a new pigeon owner in need of some advice on ways to bond with your birds, because I want them to feel safe and happy. If you guys have any dos (or serious dont's), they are greatly appreciated.
A small sidenote: anyone know how to change out and clean a cage without seriously freaking out the birds inside?
