Shitpost Can we talk about the charge for takeaway tubs?

Twice this weekend I’ve been out to meals, the first in excess of $200, second a $100 lunch. Over ordered on both and asked to take leftovers away.

First one brought the eftpos machine out to the table with a $1.50 charge for 3 tubs.

Second one we had to walk inside and paid $0.30 for one.

I get that these things do cost money, but does anyone else find this absolutely crazy? Is it strictly a Perth thing? I haven’t noticed it when travelling interstate.

I mean we’re taking it home because we OVER ORDERED, meaning we actually spent more at your establishment than we needed to.

Maybe I should have waited for Wednesday whinge?

WA News Kelmscott Agricultural Show forced to close early after violent teens invade showgrounds

https://archive.li/sI5Pn

Dozens of violent teenagers who started brawling after pushing their way into the Kelmscott Agricultural Show on Saturday forced the volunteer-run event to close several hours early.

Show organisers said they were forced to close the gates late on Saturday afternoon after a big group of between 50 and 70 young people began causing “serious disruption”.

According to a Facebook post by the Kelmscott Agricultural Society, organisers called Police and closed the gates well before they were scheduled to shut at 7pm, to protect show goers already inside the Rushton Park showgrounds.

“Some of the group got into the grounds and were involved in several fights,” the post said. “Others stayed outside the fence and kept trying to force their way in, damaging show infrastructure.

“The group also blocked nearby roads, which created a dangerous situation for traffic and pedestrians.”

The post said even though most of the group left after police were called, a number stayed in the area causing further trouble.

“With this ongoing risk, and so late in the day, we decided it wasn’t safe to re-open,” it said.

“We want to give a huge thank you to our security team. They kept visitors, exhibitors and volunteers safe and did their best to keep the show running for those already inside, all under very stressful conditions.

“Thank you also to WA Police for their response. “We’re disappointed that the actions of a few affected a day that so many people, from volunteers to exhibitors to families, had been looking forward to. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Kelmscott Show.”

The organisers added it was the first time in the show’s recent history they had been forced to close the entry gates early and the decision had not been made lightly.

Police said they received reports just after 4pm of a large group of juveniles causing a disturbance at the Kelmscott Agricultural Show.

“Several juveniles within the group were reportedly fighting one another,” a police spokesperson said. “No injuries were reported. “Upon police arrival, the group dispersed. Officers conducted patrols of the area, with no further issues reported.”

One juvenile male received a caution for disorderly behaviour.

General A list of publically available business cases about metronet projects

In light of a certain person on this subreddit, totally not spamming it, claiming in a now deleted post that metronet wasn't worth it, here are a list of past business cases of various Metronet projects in perth I could find, undertaken by the independent federal infrastructure body, Infrastructure Australia, so you can make up your mind yourself. Please keep in mind that while I am an idiot and definitely not an economist but rather a stupid student who doesn't study that at the time Metronet was first being proposed around 2017 that borrowing costs were very low and many (non-partisan) think tanks thought that the discount rate that government bodies used at the time was too high and conservative. See this grattan paper from 2018 for example: https://grattan.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/900-unfreezing-discount-rates.pdf

High priority projects:

Yanchep rail extension - BCR of 2.6 excluding "wider economic benefits", BCR of 3.4 including "wider economic benefits" using a 7 percent real discount rate, Net present value $1,571 millions (excluding WEB)

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2019-06/Project-Evaluation-Summary-METRONET-YRE_0.pdf

High capacity signalling - BCR of 2.6 using a 7 percent real discount rate, net present value of $688 millions

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2025-04/high_capacity_signalling_project_evaluation_summary.pdf

Priority projects

Ellenbrook line - BCR of 1.1 excluding "wider economic benefits", BCR of 1.2 including "wider economic benefits, using a 7 percent real discount rate, net present value $208 millions (excluding WEB)

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-05/morley_ellenbrook_project_evaluation_summary.pdf

Thornlie cockburn line - BCR of 1.2 excluding "wider economic benefits", BCR of 1.7 including "wider economic benefits" Net present value of $151 millions excluding wider economic benefits, and net present value of $591 millions including wider economic benefits

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2019-06/Project-Evaluation-Summary-METRONET-TCL.pdf

Did not make priority list (i.e. projects that failed a business case):

Byford rail extension - BCR of 0.45 assuming a 7 percent real discount rate, which would result in a net present value of -$379.5 millions (this I will admit was probably built for political reasons, as the alternative bus rapid transit option explored for this had an estimated BCR of 1.51, using the same 7 percent real discount rate, according to the business case)

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2025-04/Byford%20evaluation%20summary.pdf

Inner armadale line level crossing removals - BCR of 0.36 assuming a 7 percent real discount rate, which would result in a net present value of -$569.0 millions (for context, this analysis does not include wider economic benefits such as land use benefits because the government for some reason did not ask infrastructure bodies to evaluate them for this project according to the report)

https://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-01/Perth_Level_Crossing_Removals_Evaluation_Summary.pdf

Overall a strike rate of 4/6 metronet projects having a positive benefit cost ratio even with a conservative discount rate, at least before cost blowouts (and one of the two projects that failed a business case was more of a road project, the level crossing removals)

Shitpost Albanese announces business case to merge WA, SA and Victoria; expects Melbourne to start digging up iron ore

Anthony Albanese has today announced an expert steering committee to look into merging Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria into one giant "super-state".

According to the Prime Minister, erasing the borders between three entirely different time zones is the only way to deliver a "globally competitive landmass" that can finally attract international attention.

The federal business case relies heavily on the assumption that combining the states will deliver maximum economic benefit, working on the flawless logic that Victoria and South Australia will simply boost their local iron ore extraction to match the Pilbara.

It’s also expected to be a massive win for tourism, with international backpackers no longer having to choose between Rottnest Island and the MCG, because it will all just be branded as one big jurisdiction.

Bizarrely, WA Education Minister Tony Buti has thrown his full weight behind the plan to dissolve his own state.

Backing the federal takeover this morning, Buti insisted that governing Melbourne from Perth is just "doing the detailed work" needed to maintain a modern economy. He added that the merger is a critical step to ensure local university students get better access to welfare outcomes and casual hospitality shifts in Adelaide.

The steering committee, made up of a few mining executives and medical researchers, will now investigate whether the multi-billion-dollar constitutional headache of collapsing three state parliaments can just be self-funded by the citizens.

Where to find Tattoo artist recommendations in Perth for brown/darker skin tones

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hey I was wondering if anybody has any experience with a great tattoo artist who’s worked with brown/darker skin tones?

I’ve been searching but I’ve had some trouble and would love to hear about your experiences or the experiences of someone you know?

It’ll be my first tattoo and I’m considering getting the design shown in the picture on my shoulder and it would be for a similar skin tone too.

And I know that tattoo pain differs for each person, but how bad is the pain level for a shoulder tattoo?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for Advice Looking for mechanic on botched Subaru spark plug change.

(Looking for suitable mechanic)

Good morning all,

Definitely wasn't a good start this weekend when I had attempted to do a spark plug change on a Toyota 86, one fresh spark plug was installed correctly and torqued, another right next to it same process, didn't end up hitting torque? My monkey brain decided to keep going, unfortunately after back and forth of trying to get spark plug out the plug had separated leaving the electrode and threads stuck within the block, and the rest of the plug including the porcelain coming out

What turned into a $180 job turned into a weekend nightmare and a car stuck in my mates driveway.

I am fairly distressed as normally maintenance on my car goes smoothly. Is there any mechanics or even mobile mechanics in Perth that can fix this? As soon as possible as well, I can also get the car towed to a workshop for fix as well. I am financially not that stable right now so if there is someone who can do this job properly without leaving shaving inside the head but at an affordable price that would be perfect.

Thank you,

Uploaded is an image of what came out, everything inside the blue had come out with the rest stuck inside.

Try not to flame me in the comments as I am a newbie and it seemed fairly simple.

Dating and Friends Dating in Perth SOR — where are we meeting people?! 😅

Okay, genuine question for the Perth ladies, especially those of us SOR…Rockingham/Mandurah
WHERE are we actually meeting single men these days?! 😂
Tinder feels like a wasteland, Bumble isn’t much better, and apparently finding a decent bloke who genuinely wants to date is becoming an Olympic sport.
I’m 30, single, and starting to wonder where everyone is meeting people outside of dating apps.
Are we going to pubs? Cafés? Events? Do I need to start wandering around Bunnings looking confused?! 😭😂 I don't really have a social circle of women to go out with, it would be nice to have support.. but I'd love suggestions for places or activities that are comfortable to attend solo.

Seriously though, where are the single men in their early 30s hiding SOR? Preferably ones who actually want a relationship rather than something casual!
Would genuinely love some suggestions because the apps are doing absolutely nothing for me.
Surely I’m not the only one struggling?! 😂

Please be nice, Reddit, I'm genuinely asking ❤️😅
