Promo Athelas: Launcher for Native PC Ports of LOTR The Two Towers & The Return of the King (Xbox/PC)

Hey Lord of the Rings fans! I built this with the help of Claude to relive the nostalgia of my younger years. Yes, this comes on the back of the many recomps and decomps going around the internet, and I hope you give this one a chance! It’s my first ever software project, but I think it runs very well. I’m open to criticism and ideas. Thanks!

Athelas is a free launcher that brings three Lord of the Rings games to modern PCs:

  • The Two Towers (Xbox): a native PC port, recompiled from the original Xbox game. No emulator.
  • The Return of the King (Xbox): a native PC port, built the same way.
  • The Return of the King (PC): the original PC game, fixed up for modern Windows with ROTK Fix.

What you get

  • High frame rates, widescreen and ultrawide, 4K and beyond
  • Anti-aliasing, sharpening and modern graphics options, all optional (the default plays like the original)
  • Controller support out of the box, plus keyboard and mouse
  • Achievements, texture pack support, and one launcher for all three games
  • Should run on Steam Deck / Linux through Proton (not fully tested yet, reports welcome!)

New in 1.1.1

  • The launcher now updates itself: when a new version is out, just press Update
  • Fixed the Balin’s Tomb crash and a rare startup crash in The Two Towers
  • ROTK Xbox copies that were wrongly rejected now start
  • A test build for Windows on ARM (Snapdragon) laptops is up. Testers wanted!

Download: https://github.com/Shagg88/Athelas/releases/latest

Important: you need your own copy of the games. Athelas includes no game files: you point it at your own disc image or installed game.

It’s open source, and bug reports are very welcome on the GitHub Issues page (the launcher can open one for you if a game crashes). Steam Deck, Linux and ARM players, I’d love to hear how it runs!

Made by Shagg, with Claude (Anthropic).

Discussion The Order 1886 Native on PC Without Emulator [WIP]

I’ve been working on bringing The Order: 1886 to PC and wanted to share the progress with you!

I’m building on work from FelipePrado0’s God of War III PC project and shadPS4, testing on my RTX 3070 and aiming for 4K output.

It’s still early. The intro renders, game works until the end of prison segment and initial save creation is working, but there’s a lot left to do before I can call it playable.

If you want to follow along or help out, the code is here:

Would love to hear what you think!

Promo Build a home, take your friends into a new world, and try to bring the loot back. Worlds is in free public alpha

I'm the developer of Worlds, a voxel RPG you can play in your browser. This is the public alpha trailer.

You build up a home world between expeditions. Each trip takes you somewhere fresh to find materials, gear and bosses. Get back to the caravan and you bring your finds home. Die and you lose what you found that run.

It supports solo play and online co-op for up to 8 players. Your character and gear come with you when you join a friend's world.

The alpha is free to try here: https://worldsalpha.com

It's still early, so I'd appreciate any feedback if you give it a go.

Discussion I made a real time 1v1 spelling game that you can play in your browser

I recently built SpellBee Duel, a real-time 1v1 spelling game.

The idea is simple: two players get the same spelling challenges and compete against each other in real time.

You can:

- Challenge a friend

- Play the same challenges at the same time

- Score points for correctly spelled words

- See who gets the higher score

- Play directly in the browser without downloading anything

It's meant to be a quick game you can send to a friend and start playing together.

You can try it here: https://spellbeeduel.com/

I'd be interested to hear what PC gamers think of the concept and what you'd change or add.

C'mon guys, ut could be your best ever simple pc game!
