Community links:

Part 1: Top League Start Archetypes for New Players

We suggest these builds to players who want a good solid build, new players who want a build that will help carry them through content and for players looking for reliable league starters. The builds are sorted into archetypes to make it easier for newer players to find something they're drawn to.

Melee

The melee archetype involves either using massive attacks that damage everything in an area or very many quick attacks to bring down enemies. The damage if often supplemented with warcries or other buff skills to boost the damage even further. Because these builds are in melee they tend to be quite tanky and are usually more forgiving of small mistakes. These builds are a great choice for those that want a more active playstyle.

Builds:

Minions

The minion archetype involves summoning either permanent or temporary (and often a mix of the two) minions to fight on your behalf. These builds are particularly good for new players as they often leave you free to focus on other game mechanics when you're minions are fighting mobs. The below builds offer a range of options from spamming a large number and variety of minions to summoning a horde of flaming skulls and specializing in raising certain mobs to fight for you. I've not included all minion builds here as some have a distinctly different playstyles and are a bit more advanced.

Builds:

Absolution:

Animate Weapon:

Golems:

Holy Relic:

Spectres:

Summon Raging Spirits (SRS):

Misc:

Righteous Fire

Build Description: Righteous Fire is a build where you have a damaging fire aura that surrounds you, you clear maps by running head first into enemies and having them die to the damage over time effect surrounding you, throwing out Fire Trap to supplement the single target damage. This is a great build for those that wish to press less buttons while mapping. This build is very defensively strong but can struggle for damage when it comes to late game bossing but is so comfortable to play and Pohx has an entire website dedicated to this build that will answer almost any question you may have pohx.net. It really can not be overstated how well Pohx supports this build.

Build:

Totems

The totem playstyle consists of summoning stationery objects which attack or cast spells for you. This is particularly good for bosses as it allows a high damage uptime playstyle where you only need to summon new totems as the older ones expire or are destroyed. This allows you to focus on using buffs/debuffs and dodging the bosses mechanics. As totems can be used with most skills in the game they have a broad variety of applications and styles though typically they excel at single target damage.

Builds:

Holy Flame Totem:

Kinetic Fussilade:

Storm Burst:

Part 2: Other League Starters

Warning: Unlike the above section there are almost no requirements for builds to make this section, the builds listed here are not necessarily better/worse than the above. If you're a new player, we primarily recommend the above builds but if you're more experienced we show these builds to add to the variety available. We are assuming you can judge for yourself the viability of these builds.

Builds that appear in part 1 will also appear in this list for people who are searching by skill

Build Request Cheap+Fun Builds for use on Standard

I've been playing since 2015 and so I have a lot of legacy and just unused characters sitting on Standard league. Sometimes when I'm bored with league or if I'm not interested in playing the current league I'll hop on there and play around. Currently I have about 36 level 100 characters with about half of them geared out and specd from league play that were retired there, most of them are functional and still playable but the rest are not.

This would be a build request for any and all characters, I have every character type available to play, that would be not too expensive (my budget would be about 50-75div for the entire build if possible) that I could play around with, gear up and have fun. I'm open to any play style other than mines, never enjoyed those, but everything else is game.

Figure this might be a good thread to suggest build types for Standard players or people who get bored with league and want to tool around on other characters.

Discussion Basics of using Path of Building to min-max your DPS

This guide is aimed for those who want to make their own builds or tinker an existing one, but who don't already know how to use Path of Building (PoB) to do so. This won't get you all the way there, but should get you ~70% of the way and point out where the last 30% is. I'll explain the steps, and in the comments will have a step by step example showing how the whole process works.

Caveats! This guide mostly works for skills that PoB models nicely – think self-cast spells or attacks. If it's minion based, or corpse explosion based, or uses cooldowns like Traps/Mines/Cast on X, or has mechanics that PoB does not model well (e.g. Vaal Earthquake), then you may be better off refering to a specialised guide.

In addition, this guide assumes you have solved your defences. For example, by using a defensive template, or otherwise something you know works.

Step 1 – Basic Skill Interaction

At this stage, you want to add the bare minimum to make the build technically function. This means the skill, mandatory support gems, and mandatory uniques. Do NOT add other support gems or uniques. To do so:

  • In the Skills tab, Gem Options, change Sort gems by DPS from "Combined DPS" to "Full DPS", and Default gem quality from 0 to 20.
  • Add your skill and mandatory supports (if any). On the relevant socket group, click "Include in Full DPS". In the summary tab on the left, make sure the skill is selected, and if it has multiple damaging components then select the part which is most relevant.
  • In Items, add the mandatory uniques (if any).
  • If your skill requires a specific weapon type, add a generic rare. You will revisit this at Step 3 and 6 and 7.

Step 2 – Initial Passive Tree

At this stage, you want to add any nodes that improve your build without necessarily reflecting in the DPS, and then with the remainder you want to see how much DPS you can get via your tree.

  • Add any nodes specific to your build, including Ascendancy and Bloodline nodes.

  • On the Tree tab, click Show Node Power, and change "Offence/Defence" to "Full DPS". Then click Show Power Report. This may take some time.

  • Sort by "Per Point" and start adding wheels one at a time. You will need to wait for the Power Report to recompile after each wheel, and then re-sort.

  • I suggest doing this until you've allocated ~140-145 points total. This ensures you capture the best nodes, and then you can cut the worst performing ones in Step 6 and 7. You may also make alterations in Step 5. However, do note that when you cut your tree down, it's not uncommon to lose 50% or greater DPS.

You can swap this step with Step 3. Solving problems with gear first tends to lead to slightly higher overall power levels but at the cost of making the gear substantially more expensive to buy.

Step 3 – Initial Gearing

At this stage, you want to get an idea of what gear you are using, what DPS mods you can get on your rares, and check whether any uniques offer enough DPS to be worth a loss in defences.

  • The quality of the gear you put in should reflect your budget. On a budget, I personally put in non-influenced gear, with max rolls and maximum one specialty affix per non-weapon rare. With 10-35 div, the real DPS number is probably ~75% of that number after buying within means.
  • In the Items tab, go down each individual item one at a time. Check if there are any modifiers specific to your build that are good to have, otherwise you can sort Modifiers by Full DPS. Also adjust the modifier rolls as required. For higher budgets, you will need to check Craft of Exile to see if there are any specialty nodes you want.

  • Repeat with Tinctures/Flasks and Rare Jewels.

  • You should also add Eldritch Implicits to your Helmet, Body Armour, Gloves and Boots. In the two boxes above Quality, change "Influence" to "Searing Exarch" and "Eater of Worlds" respectively. Then click Add Implicit and add the lowest tier of whichever is best for your build.

  • You should also add an anoint to your amulet. Click anoint, sort by Full DPS, and add the best one. In Step 6, you may want to double check this is still correct.

  • In the unique box, Sort by Full DPS and see whether any are worth adding. Don't add anything that will brick your build, don't add anything that is extremely inconsistent or impossible to buy, and I suggest not adding anything that gives below ~30% more DPS.

Step 4 – Skill Setup

This is where you figure out what goes in your links, and is closely tied with Step 5 so I tend to do them together. Support gems, Auras/Heralds/Stances, automated spells/abilities with potential buffs/debuffs, marks/curses and buffs are the most impactful ones in this section. You should also add in at least one movement skill

You can click a New Socket Group and PoB should provide an idea of what you can add to increase DPS. For quality of life purposes, you should seek ways to automate things where possible. When adding supports to your main skill, make sure the support does not brick the skill.

Step 5 – Configurations

This is where you tailor your build to what you should see in-game. There are multiple schools of thought here – you can either guess at what buffs will be up during regular gameplay, or you can set it at the max achievable for your build and go through the rest of the process with the knowledge that you'll only output that against bosses mixed in with regular mobs. I tend to go with the latter.

Go through the list, and if you see one that increases your damage and is reasonably easy to get, figure out a way to get it. This will likely require some research.

Step 6 – Research, Refinement and Checking Assumptions

The research portion is huge, and where you find the remaining 30% of min-maxing. The easiest way is to look at poe.ninja and see what similar builds are doing, figure out why they are doing it, and see if it is worth adding.

Alternatively, you can scour the wiki looking for things that might be useful. Of particular note:

  • Anything that applies an effect upon a given condition (e.g. 40% increased attack damage against maimed enemies). PoB does not generally give you that condition (e.g. maim) by default, so you will need to check manually. In Configuration, tick "Show All Configurations", tick the relevant one, and check.

  • Unique jewels in general. Timeless Jewels, Watcher's Eye, The Light of Meaning, Sublime Vision, Bound by Destiny specifically Unique flasks in general

  • Cluster jewels and cluster jewel notables

Refinement and Checking Assumptions is essentially repeating steps 2-5. The more times you do it, the more things you should find and the more optimised you can make it. This is things like:

  • Cut your tree down to the right number of points. See if you can make it more efficient with pathing at the same time. If you took a mastery but it could go in multiple places, see if taking it in the alternate location is more efficient. Generally, if cutting a node drops your DPS by less than 3%, it's probably worth cutting.

  • Check to see whether there are any usable runegrafts or tattoos.

  • Check to see if your skills and support gems are still the best. For your main link, best way to do this is to take all the other supports out and re-add supports one at a time.

  • See if there are any changes to be made to your items. Check if any uniques are better now than they were before. Check if the anoint you had is still the best one.

  • Update configs if they've changed.

  • Check you can sustain mana

  • Check if you have any important warnings

Step 6 is probably the most time-intensive portion, particularly when you don't know anything about the build you are making. But once you get familiar it should go a lot faster.

Step 7 – Variants

Having fun? Time to do it all over again!

Here is where you check different versions of the same thing. Maybe a different starting class offers a better starting point, or a different ascendancy lets you do something unique. Maybe there's a different way of scaling the skill that you can lean more into.

Check as many as you can be bothered to. Stop when you get bored or your brain turns to putty. And that's pretty much it!

Discussion Bladefall (no blade blast) how important is spell cascade

• Upvotes

Im in the process of trying to build leverage bladefall of volleys 25% crit chance with perfect agony and going poison (it causes crits to not deal extra damage so hit based isnt an option) , currently im in the campaign and right now im trying out mines which feels good however has a major issue of requiring so many sockets as realistically i want bladefall , minefield , charged mines , blastchain and chance to poison if i was to make this on a ssf budget . The alternative is to go bladefall + chance to poison + cascade and go for overlaps .

in my campaign testing bladefall spell cascade felt bad however that was at like lv 30 and my mines setup is something im testing at lv 50ish . While im not planning to every play this is a levelling and probabbly will just go pconc until red maps if this build turns out to be strong . Im wondering how bladefall plays selfcast as you do gain stuff like pacts + greater spell cascade or if its a situation where in theory if it overalps the damage is good but in practice its just not realistic .

Discussion What does a build need for challenges?

I’ve been playing PoE 1 for about 1000 hours and the last two leagues I’ve started to really get how some of the more “meta” build-mechanics works. I’ve gotten Headhunter and about 100-200 divs total in the last two leagues, but I have never gotten around to do the challenges, so I believe next league is going to be a challenge-focused league for me.

What should I look for in a build for doing challenges? I don’t know if challenges changes each league (I assume they do?), but no matter what I believe that they are kind of “similar” each league? So what is usually needed in a build for doing challenges efficiently? What am I looking for in a potential build?

Help Needed Build to clear scoured breach hives semi-Afk on a "leaguestart budget"

I wanna find a build that can do t16 white breach hive fortress, |

With a semi afk setup, so thats tabbed out, but clicking the heal ailith button when shes low, not holding down rightclick (in the endgame, i dont mind srs or smth)

Currently im using a higher end herald of the hive setup, but i wanna be able to do this strat on leaguestart like 3.30, starting with scour t16 and moving on to t16 8 mod eventually.

2 stone (one stone? eater exarch) capable, and preferable uses a shield

Not Praw. or animate weapon. Or chains of command. merc bot is bad.

Ik that i should wait for patchnotes, but i dont care and im unemployed sooo

Discussion Vaal Blight vs Blight of Contagion?

Hi,

it seems like there is no reason to really focus on Vaal Blight, apart from novelty reasons. Blight of Contagion should do enough DPS with similar investment and has better clear. Only at the top end Vaal Blight does more damage, but getting to 20 layers against a boss is a matter on it's own.

Did you found during gearing a superior reason to go for the Vaal version instead?

Help Needed Can someone grade my first 'homemade' build spark crit build (mana issues)

Boots are like 25 div but build fuctions with less.

All items are worth around 15 div max. other than MB.

My lucky damge from spectre and auras are not registering so I have added in 'spell block lucky' to get that in.

Dont know why

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Lq1D2KhVc (boots craft)

(actual build (dmg wise)) https://pobb.in/Sw6s0LXdLm4P

(Build without spectre auras) https://pobb.in/FmTL5zpNlNEs

My main issue rn is mana, I just cant get mana leech (removed wrath mod from eye jewels i think)

Cant get mana on hit + less cost without losing a link.

What should i do?

(considering swapping inspiration for mana leech tbh)

Build Request How's archmage feeling these days?

Hi all, have always thought of playing an archmage heiro during leaguestart but have always found something else to play.

I know that in 3.29 there were massive spell changes but I've struggled to find if leaguestarting archmage heiro is still good or not.

If you've played it this league please let me know how it felt and if the shock nova of procession or ice nova/frostbolt is the way to go

Thanks in advance!

Help Needed I wanna experience headhunter glory in 3.30

Hi everyone. For the upcoming 3.30 league I want to experience the glory of the headhunter. Last league I farmed my first (3 Flask) Mageblood and the experience was great and a lot of fun. Next league I want to go for a build that feels amazing to play with headhunter and need you recommendations.

The build should be on somewhat of a budget since I would describe myself as a mid tier player. I would love for the build to have a good progression from a league starter since I rarely play more than one char.

If you leave a recommendation a link to a showcase of guide would be amazing!

Thanks for your recommendations :)

Atlas Tree map blasters: how can i improve my runs?

hello,

first of anything, here's my atlas tree:

https://poeplanner.com/atlas-tree/BQAcAACKAE6NArbcXLL65TGczbwQCEOLFbTHLJKjnbePORhdoKGNXyk2axvEbYj45cAqPFnzW8wP-wop5DasjEEAZfYfXp21qs5ayf3uwI3qbauwkgoLDEIdfZtp5PcSnH2RCnubWA5KgbeINNoUztoEkrGdZBsqXoedLfvQxuEHw3lJxG62aCuCp73HYDmCUQJrMpE348SmqeHwgLPHjDBnsPuxpW1UdjJqFiRe39Ft4AxfSisgsAjLF35ssroN9pHOk3d6JKseWBbRGSzoO1IZlJGJpGX9tebWYRXBr2RIwXTl7Fsej-UDMBQXM8a10yAziU_VacJ2qUNH-k1gtWM_CLliQGj4BPXAbziyaPCiOwWg1ulnI9_QKBQAH4sIAAAAAAAAAwMAAAAAAAAAAAA=

mapping setup:

-damnation to tropical island

-t16.5 %60 deli

-scarabs: abyss + abyss + abyss multitude + abyss multitude + legion

-blaster build with headhunter (ofc)

league mechanics i hate:

-bestiary

-expedition

-ultimatum

-harvest

-syndicate

i enjoy what i do: blasting maps with hh. i don't prioritize div/h but i think i'm missing something. something like, maybe a small adjustment would better fit my enjoyment and adds some income. don't get me wrong, i actually dropped my first mirror with this setup. also dropped few the insane cat and one damnation.

also, i'm maxing 12 deli rewards per map. so i think increasing mob count would help me to improve. for example, if there's a blight encounter i'm doing it because it increases deli reward count. alva helps; after room run drops, deli count and itemized temples to sell. i dropped fairly good items from ritual a few times.

i'm thinking about dropping legion and maybe ritual completely to put more mob related passives on tree. also, delirium scarab of paranoia seems like a better fit.

what do you think about it? what can be improved?

thanks,

Help Needed How is RF Chieftain single target DPS before getting The Hateful Accuser?

I haven't played RF in two years, but I see that it's still a good build for leveling up quickly early-league. However the prices on this ring is pretty high on first few days.

I wanna blast through map/atlas completion, and don't care about Ubers the first 2 days. I am not seeking a bossing build. But will I still struggle with t16 bosses and slow down my atlas progression? How does that get solved nowadays? I see that Hinekora, Death's Fury also got nerfed last patch, which made me even more concerned. I heard somewhere that Scorching Ray (of Immolation) might help? Or is fire trap enough, especially if I can get an Archdemon Crown early?

I would appreciate hearing from people who have experienced this build recently.

Build From paint to 3.29: Lightning Tendrils of Escalation, 250m DPS, 1.3m EHP

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PathOfExileBuilds/comments/1uz27ns/please_let_me_know_how_viable_you_think_this_idea/

My final version: https://pobb.in/H-lPq9Vpe8wS

poe.ninja with my progression: https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/allflame/character/prizmains-7479/primal_lt?timemachine=week-2

This was my first time playing a buffed skill, and this is what came out of it. I also plan to update the PoB after the 3.30 patch notes drop, if anyone’s interested.

Changes from the original idea:

  • Annihilating Light: capping resists is too hard with it, so it fits cheap zero-EHP setups better. On top of that, the buffed rare staves deal comparable damage.
  • Anathema: curses have much more impact, but to get the full effect you have to invest in them and wait for all of them to land on the boss, which isn’t efficient. It also takes up a ring slot that should go to Call of the Void, which gives 30% chill and enables Hypothermia.
  • I did end up adding one cluster jewel. It gives Arcane Surge and ES leech, which saves a lot of skill points and jewel sockets, and we’re badly short on those.

Apart from the belt that lets us keep flasks up permanently, the last major change was switching ascendancy from Occultist to Elementalist. Reasons:

  1. I was in denial for a long time, but golems are cool.
  2. With the same number of ascendancy points it gives comparable damage, and Heart of Destruction makes clear better.
  3. You don’t need to invest in mana sustain nearly as much as Occultist’s useless new node, Unhallowed Rite, requires.

The result is a build with impressive numbers, which is exactly what a PoB warrior needs.

T17 showcase attached.

Build Request Templar spell builds for early league

Given that 3.30 is approaching I am slowly starting to think about possible starting builds.

I have found a build that should be servicable on a few divines but I'm stumped on how to get there. The build will be an Inquisitor caster so I'd like to start something somewhat similar to avoid having to reroll the entire tree.

I know about Armageddon Brand + Cremation but from what I gathered people usually scrap that after Kitava for their actual build so I was wondering what I could play to lets say level 85ish?

zhp EBlade Sanctum rusher is out because I suffer from severe skill issue when it comes to that mechanic.

My ideal build would be like 1.5ish million dps, lets call it 4.5k life and some form of tankyness that goes past 75/75/75/40 resists and 3 endurance charges.

Is there something you could recommend as a general guidelines as we haven't gotten any changes yet obviously?
