RE: the Posters

1.7k Upvotes

Hey folks, we hear you. These posters are expensive and we completely fumbled their release. Can we restart the loop and try again?

We realize we didn't do a good job explaining the quality and process behind Cook & Becker’s posters. The artwork for these posters were inspired by the vintage Rob Decker National Park posters. We were excited to rerelease our artwork with a printing style similar to how those original posters would have been printed in the 70s. As some folks have pointed out, yes, these posters are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. We'll be posting more info and videos of the process and handmade nature of the posters so you can see exactly what goes into making each one.

But we also understand this means they’re expensive and out of budget for most people. To let you into our merchandising process a little bit, we were also surprised by how expensive Cook & Becker’s artworks can be when we were first introduced to them. The folks at Cook & Becker were gracious enough to work with us to keep the price of the whole collection of posters as low as possible without compromising on the quality of the artworks. One of the reasons we haven’t rereleased the postcard version of these artworks is because the variance in print color and quality between printing runs has been disappointing and frustrating. Cook & Becker’s meticulous process and expertise gave us a lot of reassurance that we would not have the same issues for these prints. We want to provide you all with the best quality merchandise we can, but in this case, we understand this led to us producing something highly desired but too expensive for the majority of our fans. And without an affordable option available for purchase, that’s a really bad look. We hope you will forgive us.

If it helps at all, we’ve decided to look into restocking the classic printed cardstock postcards for the future, despite our past issues with them, for those who aren’t interested in these new premium fine art prints. Now also feels like an appropriate time to reveal that we have been working on a couple more standard merch projects: a re-release of our popular Echoes of the Eye Metal T-shirt and a new set of Traveler pins created by our excellent artist, Lara Colson. After hearing your concerns, we’ve decided to release the shirts as a pre-order so no one misses out on getting one. This means it’ll be several weeks before they’ll ship out because we’ll wait to screenprint them until we have your orders. As for the pins, they will only be a limited quantity right now since we ordered them awhile ago and have been waiting for the shirt to be ready so we could release and ship them together. Keep an eye out for their release soon!

We’re all hard at work on our next game, which as you all know is still a secret and still a few years away from any announcements. In the meantime, we don’t have a lot of capacity for designing new merchandise made by our team directly, so new merch will be made by external artists at partners like Fangamer or Youtooz. And occasionally, as resources allow, we’ll rerelease merch like the Metal T-Shirt. As long as there are new fans of Outer Wilds, we want to keep releasing merch with our various merch partners for you all to enjoy.

As always, you all have been such wonderful fans and we really appreciate all the love and support, the fan art, the discussions and feedback, the mods, and the excitement for our next game. Our next game is our top priority and we hope you all love it even half as much as Outer Wilds.

Available for a limited time: Outer Wilds x Cook and Becker vintage travel poster series Spoiler

Hello Travelers,

Mobius here. New limited-edition Outer Wilds posters are now available!

You might be saying “Hey, these look familiar.” And you’d be right! We worked closely with the folks at Cook & Becker to bring you bigger versions of the national park-themed posters based on the solar system’s major planets. These are those very same illustrations by our artist Ian Jacobson.

The first few hundred orders come with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by artist Ian, while supplies last. As indicated on the order form: "Artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity." Once those run out, subsequent orders will come with an autopen-signed CoA.

These time-limited prints are ONLY available until August 25th, with the final edition size being determined then, and cost $79.95 each. However, there is a one-week deal where you can get all six for $299 as a set instead of $480!

Each poster measures 21 x 29cm, or 8.2 x 11.4 inches

Head on over to Cook and Becker's website to check them out: https://www.cookandbecker.com/en/catalog/videogame/outer-wilds

Thanks again for all your support. Keep on exploring!

-The Mobius Digital Team

Edit: Whoops, looks like we did a terrible job communicating what these actually are: handmade fine art prints. These posters/prints are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. These are not normal prints, they are quite special.

[Spoiler alert!!!] Story graph explanation Spoiler

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey guys, I know I'm way too late to the game but I just finished it and loved every bit of it! After finishing I fully geeked out and made a graph that explains the time loops and the plan that was originally set by the Nomai (The bigger graph) and then what actually happens to the player (the smaller inner graph) to help me understand it all.

Thought I'd throw it in here in case it helps anyone or out of curiosity :)

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Why does [this happen] to the ship when you land on [that place]? Spoiler

Why does the ship not get entangled with the Quantum Moon and move with it like you do? I think the scout does get entangled if you shoot it onto the moon; even if you look away and the moon disappears, it's still on the moon when you try to take a picture. But if you land on the moon, leave the ship, and move the moon somewhere else, your ship gets left behind.

Is it that the scout attaches to surfaces but the ship passively rests on them, so maybe the scout isn't entangled at all? Are there any other interesting circumstances that might shed light on this phenomenon?

Mod Announcement New Rule: Rule 8 - No Piracy, No "Freebie" Requests, No Sale or Resale

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to inform the sub that there is a new rule in our rules list. Please be aware that this is not a new rule as these situations have always been moderated the same way in the sub. However, for clarity, I have added this to the official list of rules here!

The rule reads as follows:

No Piracy, No "Freebie" Requests, Sales Must Follow Mobius's Policies

The devs worked hard to create a game that people love, and deserve to be compensated for their work. This rule includes but is not limited to:

  • No Pirating link shares or requests
  • Sale of unlicensed merch must follow Mobius's policies
    • * edit: those with permission from Mobius to sell in bulk or who follow Mobius' created content sales policy may sell the things they've created here! See below for details!
  • No requests for gifted games, free content that players would normally pay for, etc
  • No scalping (selling content for higher than market value)

Please note that giveaways, reduced-cost resales, and other situations are allowed at mod discretion.

All posts of this nature or that could possibly fall under this rule will be up to moderator discretion, and failure to follow this rule could lead to being banned from the sub.

Mobuis has an official policy on fan-made artwork sales, and provided your post follows these policies, it will be allowed!

  • Do not use official art or assets from our games in your sold fan works.
  • Do not make or sell fan works that are significantly similar to official items offered by our partners: link.
  • You are not permitted to mass-distribute, mass-produce or manufacture fan works without our express written permission.
  • You are not permitted to set up crowdfunding (e.g. Kickstarter) for projects or products using or relating to our IP.
  • We reserve the right to stop or remove any works at any time at our sole discretion for any or no reason.

Please contact the mods with any questions.

DLC Appreciation/Discussion Did anyone else stumble onto this in the DLC?

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!!

>!Hi all, I just finished the DLC which was brilliant.

I feel like I slightly cheesed my way through one part of the game.

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get through the room before the hidden fireplace entrance without being caught. Anyway, by chance I discovered how to get to the Subterranean Lake by jumping off the raft (I actually blew out all the candles to make the raft disappear but same difference).

Anyway, once you’re in the Subterranean Lake, you can actually just walk to the Forbidden Archives that are usually hidden behind the fireplace.

Did anyone else stumble onto this? I completed the DLC before I realised how you’re actually meant to complete the Shrouded Woods.!<

DLC Help - NO Spoilers Please! How scary is the DLC? Spoiler

I recently started the EotE and I've just discovered that i can WATCH these "rings with tales"!

This is how i will see ancient civilization's history just like Nomai's texts. And then i decided to watch ALL of them. Well, i went to the basement that stores about two of these "rings with tales" and took first. I went to the projector, put the lamp into projector...

"Oh, their main guy scans the Eye..."

"Oh, the scan shows history to him!"

"The history shows Eye destroying the universe...?"

"And the main guy... OH DAMN!"

This owl's wide opened mouth was terrifying. The music is also making the vibe (scaring me more). I just didn't know that they have mouth lol. But I'm afraid of horrors. Will the DLC be more scary so i can't play it? Thanks!

This game is horrifying and I love it

I just bought the game yesterday and man this game is just my dreams. I've never played any space games before but it has everything i wanted, exploration, planets, the fear when suddenly you turn around and see a giant sun about to swallow you. I've literally jumped a few times playing this. Entering giants deep induced one of my greatest fears, I always imagined what it will be to go to jupiter, entering those clouds to who knows what, and also the endless waters like in the movie interstellar.

This game is just perfect. My controller just died AAAAAAAAAAA

Wow Spoiler

I did NOT expect this.

I played Hollow Knight and Subnautica before this, so I thought I already knew the “explore weird world and slowly figure shit out” type of game.

Nope.

I’m like 4 hours into Outer Wilds and I’ve barely explored Brittle Hollow, found the Hanging City, the Black Hole Forge, the Tower of Quantum Knowledge, saw some completely insane stuff happen, and I’m already hooked.

There have been multiple moments where I just stopped and went “what the fuck is going on” and then 10 minutes later something suddenly made sense.

And now I finally understand why everyone is so insanely strict about spoilers.

Like yeah, of course you don’t want spoilers. The whole game IS finding things out.

I feel like I’ve seen almost nothing and it’s already a complete banger.

Btw, do you have any suggestions for how to play the game?

Tech Help Combine base game and DLC on PS5

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello community,

I would like to ask you if anyone has experienced the same glitch that I am dealing with right now.

I bought the digital base game for PS5 and enjoyed playing it so much that, instead of buying the digital DLC, I got a Japanese physical release of the game to add to my collection.
However, when I installed the disc version containing the DLC, it showed up as a separate release (please see the pictures) so the only option I have is to start a new expedition because the new install with EotE is basically clean.
I still have my previous save with the full ship log (I have unlocked the Archaeologist achievement) but it can only be accessed in the older digital release that doesn’t have the EotE expansion.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me whether I can somehow “combine” these two releases — the digital one and the physical one — so that I can start EotE with my full ship log from my previous save.

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Dark Matter Show Spoiler

Anyone watch Dark Matter on Apple TV? There is a new location introduced in season 2 that just gives me such Outer Wilds vibes. (spoilers for Dark Matter season 2) This lady (Laurel) basically turned her house into a refuge for lost, weary, travelers and helps guide them. The first time the audience sees it the room is dark, there is a fire going, and the first thing you see is a sign that says “welcome traveler.” It really hits the cozy, otherworldly, existential vibe you get from Outer Wilds. (Spoilers for Outer Wilds) It kinda reminds me of the grove at the end of the universe. I could absolutely see Laurel there around the campfire. If the piano wasn’t taken I could see that being her instrument but since piano is off the table the harp kinda fits her.

What is funny is I remember seeing Train Dreams talked about on here as having Outer Wilds vibes. Interestingly both star Joel Edgerton.

"More to explore" for a certain place... Spoiler

I'm missing something in the computer for The Sunless City. Here's what is in the entry:

A Nomai city built into the walls of a huge underground cavern. The city is divided vertically into four districts.

The Nomai traveled to this solar system in persuit of a signal from something older than the universe itself. They named the source of this signal the "Eye of the Universe"

I'm pretty sure I've explored everything around the city but can't figure it out.

FYI this is my second time playing through the game so don't worry about further spoilers as far as I'm concerned. I just can't remember this part.

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Why didn't they get the message? How are their messages getting through? Spoiler

I finished both the base game and DLC recently and as I've been going over completing the ship log, I remembered something I didn't see a clear answer to before: how come the other nomai clans didn't receive The Vessel's SOS?

According to the modern transmissions found inside of The Vessel, the nomai just disappeared after jumping to The Eye's solar system. But on the opposite wall, you can clearly see that The Vessel's nomai were asking for help in the little time they had left. If it was the case that transmissions couldn't leave Dark Bramble, I would get it. But the fact that we are seeing transmissions from modern nomai means The Vessel can still send and receive messages from other clans. So what gives?

Base Fan Art - OC I made a documentary about Planet Nine with Outer Wilds in my head the whole time Spoiler

Outer Wilds is probably my favourite game of all time, and like a lot of you I spent ages after finishing it watching other people play it for the first time. I recently started a small YouTube channel making calm documentaries about theories that haven't been proven yet, and sometimes how one finally got proven. It's not only about space, but I'm really into space, so naturally a lot of the videos end up being about it.

When I made one about Planet Nine, a planet that might be out past Neptune that nobody has managed to find, I realised halfway through that I was basically making it with Outer Wilds in my head the whole time. It's hard to explain but the feeling of looking up at the sky from Timber Hearth and wanting to know what's out there, the Hearthians curiosity leading to their space program, that's what I was going for. One of the chapters actually opens with a quote from the game about the Eye (because of a parallel I realized with what we know about Planet Nine), and the music under that chapter is a bit of a nod to Giant's Deep, the underwater part. It's intentionally slow, and kind of mysterious and dreamy, so I'm not sure it's for everyone, but I kept thinking that some people from this community might enjoy it for the same reasons I enjoyed making it.

The narration is a synthetic voice, but the research, script, visuals, direction, and music choices are all mine. I hope this is okay to share here, I'm really not trying to advertise anything, just thought some of you might get the same feeling from it that I got from the game. Would genuinely love to hear what you think.

Modding Outer Wilds Racing?

Has anyone made a sort of racing mod for Outer Wilds?

I was talking to a friend about the new Tesla car and how it's a kind of a joke and that the best thing to come from it will be the GTA parody version to play with in GTA 6.

But it got me thinking about how fun it would be to have a racing game that properly uses 3D space and thrusters for manoeuvring a course.

Made me think of how fun an Outer Wilds Kart mod would be. You could have Suit races and Ship races. Use all the current assets to make themed courses out of and all that. Use different gravities to put an effect on different tracks or sections of track. Make the ghost matter become like, clouds that slow you down etc.

Im really hoping this mod already exists and someone can point me in the right direction but if not, maybe I've provided some inspiration for those more talented than I!
