Monster Jam with 2year old

Has anyone had experience bringing a two year old to Monster Jam without a ticket. Our girl just turned two this month and Monster Jam comes next month on the 6th. I don't really want to pay for 3 $50 tickets when she is only a month off the listed free child age. Has anyone had experience in the past sneaking older kids in and how did it go?

things to do Norfolk Admirals Ticket for Free

I have a single ticket to the Norfolk Admirals home opener this coming Friday but I can't make it due to work commitments.

The first person to send me their name and email on a private message can get it for free. It's in section 201 so right above center ice.

Edit: this is now gone! Took less than 30 secs!

Any information on Mamie Johnson for Ward 3?

I'm not originally from here and I don't know much about her. She's briefly mentioned taking on greenspace and park projects on an article from WHRO and some wishy washy comments about Flock

Just curious what her track record has been since she has been on city council for over ten years

Looked at the website and didn’t see any baby clothes for the Admirals? Anyone know if they sell any at games? We’re wanting to do a baby announcement with like “new Admirals fan coming January 2027”. Just trying to be cute and what not.

Generic Theater moves into a new home with volunteer help and finds new fans

Post image

The 45-year-old Generic Theater is transforming a 3,600-square-foot space inside the Masonic Temple in Norfolk into a new black box theater following an extensive search for a permanent home.

After spending 18 years operating in the basement of Chrysler Hall, the independent playhouse secured a lease in May and is preparing to open its upcoming season in November.

Despite changing locations, theater officials say they remain committed to the core mission of producing edgy, non-mainstream performances for the local community.

Do you use the left lane to pass?

I recently had to take a family member to the hospital and I found myself being delayed by the amount of people who would not let me pass them in the left lane. Given, I’m a safe driver and say I was going about 59 in a 55? I understand it’s frustrating when people cut you off but why make things difficult if you don’t know what’s going on in the car behind you. And to my understanding I thought the left lane was only for passing. The title is an unbiased question because I usually don’t care what other drivers are doing.

Tracking 2026 Murders in Norfolk, Part 30

Good evening,

This past Sunday morning, 18 OCT 2026, a call summoned police to the 200 block of E. 30th St. Police arrived just after 8 AM. There, they found Daquan Pope, 23 years old, suffering from wound(s) from gunfire. EMS / police pronounced him dead on the scene. A suspect has been charged and is currently being sought by law enforcement.

The red square for this incident is in the western third of the map, just above the two purple dots.

https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/police-investigate-fatal-shooting-on-west-30th-st/

https://www.pilotonline.com/2026/10/20/24-year-old-norfolk-man-charged-in-fatal-west-30th-street-shooting/

A few observations:

- This was the third murder in Norfolk in October of 2026 and the 30th overall for the city in 2026.

- The average age of the three men killed this month has been 21.33 years old. The average age for the year has been exactly 32 years old.

- Mr. Pope's death puts the ratio of men to women killed at 25 men and 5 women for the year, at least as identified by the City and local news media. The ratio of 83% is now into having men overrepresented compared to historical trends, which is usually at 75-80%, but with such a "small" number of women a single murder there would kick things back into the "usual" proportion.

- To look at the trends of the last few years, we have about 10 weeks left in 2026. We are three murders past where we were in 2025 at the end of the year, which is not good; but we are "only" one more than the number at the end of October in 2024. Certainly it depends on how things go in November and December, but we are about even with the numbers of two years ago. In 2023 we were 34 at the end of October, four more than our current total.

- I work on this project not to spread dark misery, but so that we have hard data to look at regarding our most serious crime.

Be safe, make good decisions!

Who can tell me their preference and why if they went to Mina’s AND Norfolk Tailor in Ghent.

Also, do these places have skilled people who still know how to use a thread and needle for stuff like sequins and holes in knits?

❓questions❓ Hit and Run

I'm not entirely sure this fits here, but my friend was recently involved in a hit and run Sunday 10/18/2026 6:35am at McDonald's ODU hampton blvd . 2013-2016 white Hyundai Santa Fe (could also be the sport model). Should have damage on the drivers side, darker grey paint. He had lights on his back plate so the picture didn't get any numbers.

Norfolk Public Schools hears concerns ahead of voting on latest round of consolidations, closures

Post image

As Norfolk Public Schools prepares to close four schools in June, community members asked the division to lay out a clear plan and more support for staff.

School Board members held a public hearing at its October meeting to discuss closing Granby, Tarrallton, Lindenwood and P.B. Young elementaries. The hearing came after meetings at each school.

Ghent School was set to close at the end of the school year, but that is no longer part of this phase.

The board heard comments from several people who want more details about when teachers would be expected to move schools and what help they would get.

“I also recognize that consolidation may be part of a long-term solution, but responsible leadership is not measured by how quickly difficult decisions are made,” teacher Tyrone Weems told the board. “It is measured by how well those decisions are planned, communicated and carried out.”

Keisha Whitfield, a Northside Middle teacher and member of the Education Association of Norfolk, said educators needed a district transition plan that included how to document additional hours worked when educators moved, a moving schedule and separate time for planning versus preparing their new classroom.

To make room for new students, some at Monroe and Taylor elementaries would be rezoned. Teacher and parent Katie Whitestone asked board members to more clearly communicate with those impacted families.

“I support the need for change. I am here for the long haul and only want to see everything improve,” Whitestone said. “I am simply asking that we carry it out with direct communication for our families and meaningful practical support for our educators.”

At some members’ request, the board is expected to discuss the changes at its November workshop before voting on final closures in December.

“We've had these presentations and community meetings, and you know we've been listening to feedback,” member Tanya Bhasin said. “It's important that we have ample time to discuss, review, evaluate the feedback, make any changes that we might have that we might agree on.”

The board did not discuss Phase III, but its agenda materials included proposed rezoning boundaries for Chesterfield Elementary, the only school set to close in June 2028 under the existing plan.

Chesterfield’s 300 students would be rezoned to Ingleside Elementary. That would cause a waterfall of changes. Ingleside would send some students to Coleman Place and Lake Taylor elementaries. Coleman Place would send its students to Richard Bowling Elementary.

Norfolk considering rolling back building standards meant to boost climate resilience

Post image

Norfolk city officials are thinking about scaling back the city's 2018 Resilience Quotient zoning ordinance, citing concerns that the current mandatory regulations serve as a barrier to housing and commercial development.

The proposed revisions would convert the resilience point system from a requirement into an optional incentive program for large developments.

Environmental advocates warned against weakening flood protections, arguing that the city should refine rather than dismantle its innovative climate adaptation framework.

Norfolk-backed firm invests millions elsewhere as city waits. Hampton Roads Ventures has not backed a local project since 2008. Council members want its profits to help address the city’s housing crisis.

Full story: https://virginiamercury.com/2026/10/19/norfolk-backed-firm-invests-millions-elsewhere-as-city-waits/

Hampton Roads Ventures backed a $12 million investment in a grocery store in rural Marion, $10 million for a farm equipment distribution center in Martinsville and $3 million for a supermarket in Louisiana in the past year.

And once again, none of its projects were in Norfolk.

More than four years ago, Norfolk’s City Council passed a resolution requiring the for-profit subsidiary of the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority to seek projects in the city. Year after year, the annual report required by that resolution shows no progress supporting a project in the city.

This year’s report, filed on Sept. 30, does not outline any efforts to invest in Norfolk or the region.

City council members said they were disappointed but not surprised. Two members who co-chair the city’s commission on housing, said they will push for HRV, which usually earns more than  $1 million in profits annually, to help back an affordable housing program being set up by the city.

Jennifer Donohue, HRV’s chief executive officer, did not respond to an email seeking comment.

The HRV investments follow a pattern similar to that of recent years, backing the kinds of projects needed in Norfolk, but in other localities.

HRV also made an unreported donation of $300,000 to the Norfolk State University athletics department in the wake of the school hiring Michael Vick last year.

Norfolk City Council candidates weigh in on Flock cameras

Norfolk’s use of Flock cameras is coming under scrutiny as public opposition grows.

The more than 200 cameras, which are positioned around the city, identify license plates and other characteristics of vehicles as they pass. Critics call them an invasion of privacy and a tool for illegal surveillance.

But Norfolk city leaders stood by the city’s use of the devices last week as more than 50 people rallied at City Hall to protest Norfolk Police Department’s use of automatic license plate reader cameras.

The Virginian-Pilot asked candidates running for City Council seats this year about the technology and how to balance privacy rights and public safety.

Candidates generally said they supported the technology while also voicing support for various levels of oversight. However those who supported restrictions offered few specifics about what measures they would take.

In a statement, Ward 2 Council member Courtney Doyle said the city has been operating in accordance with the limitations imposed by the state in 2025.

“Flock cameras can only be used for accepted law enforcement purposes,” said Doyle, who is running unopposed. “That limitation prohibits its use for anything like stalking.”
