LOOKING TO HIRE:

- Include some form of contact information in your post. Do not put an email address directly in the post; link to a company website, social media page, or ask for a DM if an email address must be involved.
- No multi-level marketing, get-rich-quick posts. Illegitimate businesses or positions will be removed, scammers will be banned.
LOOKING FOR WORK:
- Keep the post length as short as possible i.e. don't post your entire resume here.
- Have employers message you via Reddit rather than put your personal information on here.

This timid brown dog has been around the neighborhood for a week or so… Looks like it may be eating, but has no collar and a large lump on its back leg. Definitely could use some attention.
Does anybody recognize?

Living Here ELVIRA2
There's a custom job black Jeep Wrangler with a vanity plate ELVIRA2 that's my New Orleans equivalent of Warren Zevon's werewolf of London as I have found myself behind it in traffic every few months at varying locations around the city. I finally caught a glimpse of the driver as I passed it on I-10 during my ride home from the airport today and was 0% surprised to find myself briefly locking eyes with the enormous pet ferret (as in borderline R.O.U.S.) riding on the driver's shoulder/upper left arm.
Whoever you are, driver and ferret/R.O.U.S., thank you for a much-appreciated laugh.

🏰 Real Estate You Can't Afford🏡 New Orleans is getting its own Monopoly game. Here's how you can help choose what makes the board
NEW ORLEANS — What would a Monopoly board look like if it were all about New Orleans? Maybe Jackson Square could take the place of Boardwalk, or your favorite neighborhood restaurant could become one of the game's properties.
Now, New Orleanians have a chance to help decide.
Hasbro, the toy and entertainment company behind Monopoly, announced Monday that the Big Easy is getting its own version of the iconic board game, and organizers want residents to help bring it to life.
Instead of the familiar Atlantic City streets and properties, the New Orleans edition will feature local businesses, restaurants, nonprofits and landmarks. Even the Community Chest cards, playing cards and Monopoly money will get a Crescent City makeover.
Organizers offered a sneak peek at what could make the board, with early suggestions including the Caesars Superdome, Audubon Zoo, Jackson Square and the Garden District. But nothing has been finalized, and that's where residents come in.
"We do not want to build this alone," said Sarah Bowman, a sales executive for Top Trumps USA Inc., the company working on the game.
Bowman said the goal isn't to simply search online for New Orleans' most popular attractions and put them on a board. Instead, organizers want to capture the places and experiences that make the city special to the people who call it home.
"So we are asking everybody at home to think when people come from out of town, where do you bring them as a New Orleans local? Where do you want to show off the city?" Bowman said.
City leaders say the game could also give local businesses and nonprofits a chance to gain national exposure.
"You've got an iconic brand and iconic game Monopoly, and we've got New Orleans, a city that we obviously all love and know," said Kevin Ferguson, New Orleans deputy mayor and chief of staff. "And now it's an opportunity to bring more of New Orleans to other generations."
Want your favorite New Orleans spot on the board?
Residents can submit suggestions they'd like to see featured by emailing neworleans@toptrumps.com.
The New Orleans edition of Monopoly is expected to be released in November 2027.

Dog Attack on Greenway
I was walking my dog on the Greenway close to Skeeta Hawk/Flour Moon yesterday (Oct 18), and a pitbull that was tied to a pole in front of a white van broke free from its leash and attacked my dog. I got bit by the pitbull in the process of trying to get it to stop attacking my dog. Thankfully, my dog and I are ok. I went to the ER to get antibiotics and a tetanus shot, and all is well. My dog is an Aussie/Chow, and her enormously fluffy coat must have saved her from getting a puncture wound like me.
More on the dog/owner: Sadly, I didn’t get the name of the owner or the dog. The dog was a stocky, midsized (maybe even on the smaller side) pitbull with a grey and white coat. The dog was terrifying. It latched onto my dog and wouldn’t let her go. I was actually punching the dog and the dog still didn’t let go of my dog. The owner appeared to be living out of his van, and was parked on St Louis around N Rocheblave. He was an older man with grey hair and several missing teeth. I wasn’t able to get a photo of the van, the dog, or the owner. I’m not mad at the dog—it was laying down in front of what was probably his home (the van) and went into protective mode. I’m pissed at the owner for being a terrible and negligent dog owner and for seeing my bloody arm and telling me it was “just a scratch.”
This is just a PSA to watch out for this dog and the dog owner. This is actually the second time a dog has broken free from its leash and went after my dog while we were minding our own business walking on the Greenway. So I guess this is a PSA to just be careful when walking the Greenway with your pets.
Final note: Two people ran to me while the dog’s owner and I were trying to break up the fight. I was so angry, scared, and in shock that I wasn’t able to properly thank them. If the two people who came to my rescue somehow find this post, I want to say thank you so much. I was genuinely terrified, and it meant the world to me to have y’all check in on me and confront the owner on my behalf. Would love to buy y’all a drink!
Edit: This post is not meant to blame the dog or the pitbull breed. Owners of reactive dogs have a responsibility to keep their dogs in environments that make them feel safe and to make sure the reactive dogs do not put anyone in danger. I am putting full blame on the owner for leaving the dog unaccompanied and very poorly tied to a pole near the sidewalk of a part of the city that sees a lot of foot traffic and pets. The owner is to blame full stop.

Pay rates for (food) tour guides?
TLDR: trying to collect food tour pay rates so I can negotiate a raise for my employees
Hi y’all. I’m the local manager of a food tour that’s part of a bigger company with tours around the US. We’ve grown a lot but still operate as a small business, so my direct boss is the founder/owner of the company. He is a wonderful dude and a great boss, but he’s not local so he doesn’t really understand the tour industry/culture here as much as he thinks he does (because he’s got a REALLY great grip on it for basically anywhere else in the US - he knows his shit). I’ve reached a point where I no longer feel that we are paying our tour guides competitively here in NOLA, where being a TG can and often is a career, not just a job. I’m going to have to hire someone new soon, for the first time in years, and I can’t in good conscience (or without embarrassing myself) offer what we’re currently paying. Not to mention my longer-term guides who kick ass and deserve to be paid more. I’m not asking for a lot - I just want them to be paid what I get paid, a few more bucks an hour.
My boss is open to this, and we’ve already talked about it quite a bit, but he’s very numbers-driven, and has assigned me the homework, essentially, of showing him the data that says “here’s what most food tours in New Orleans are paying their guides, hence, our rate is not competitive”. He’s thinking, like, job postings online with the pay posted. We all know we don’t have that here. It’s all word of mouth, and even if you did find a tour guide job on Indeed, it wouldn’t list anything resembling a concrete pay rate.
So I have come to Reddit! If you have personal experience to speak from, I’d love to hear
A) first and foremost - do you work in food tours in NOLA? If so, what do you pay/get paid, depending on your role in the hierarchy?
B) secondarily, any help explaining to or convincing my boss that this data-gathering approach of looking for online job postings is not going to be super fruitful or accurate would be nice. Or if i’m wrong, pls flood me with food tour guide job postings!
All data is good data, so if you work in NON-FOOD walking tours, i’m happy to hear about those pay rates as well, but since the issue here is the higher overhead of running a food tour, he’s pretty focused on that specifically.
Thanks y’all!!

📰 News West Bank can’t afford to lose another high school, analysis finds. But school changes are certain in other parts of town
L.B. Landry High School, one of only three high schools in Algiers, faces potential closure by the end of the 2026-2027 school year. But a new analysis finds that even as the city’s K-12 enrollment continues to shrink, the city’s West Bank is the one area that can’t afford to lose a single school.
In September, L.B. Landry’s charter operator, Algiers Charter Schools, voted not to renew the school’s contract with the NOLA Public Schools district, which oversees almost all of the public charter schools in the city. The move appeared to anticipate district regulatory action. Landry has earned a D letter grade for the past four years, running afoul of new academic standards and would have likely faced closure when the district votes on renewal decision in December.
Under the new academic standards, which were implemented this July, schools with consistent D and F grades can be subject to charter revocation, even if the school isn’t up for renewal. In the two months since the new accountability system went into effect, three schools — Landry, Fannie C. Williams Charter School and Dr. Martin Luther King Charter School for Sci Tech, the sole remaining school in the Lower 9th Ward — have already become eligible for closure.
At a recent public meeting, alumni demanded that the district keep Landry open because it is integral to the culture and communal fabric of Algiers.
A new analysis of school population trends by New Schools for New Orleans (NSNO), an influential education nonprofit that has advised the public school district since Hurricane Katrina, could bolster their argument. The analysis, which was shared with Verite News, found that there isn’t room at the West Bank’s two other high schools — Edna Karr High School and the New Orleans Military & Maritime Academy (NOMMA) — to accommodate all the students that would leave Landry if it closed.

Living Here 54 days of this... so far.
Thought y'all might like to hear it isn't just Orleans Parish, Jefferson is being dumb too.
August 26th, AT&T was installing fiber internet in my neighborhood and broke my water line. We had no water at all for a day and water was gushing from this spot until I called Jefferson Parish and they came out that afternoon and fixed it... sort of. They left this pit trickling water, with the now faded caution tape, and marked the repair as complete.
I figured they would come back, not knowing that it had been labeled as a complete repair, and called again a few weeks later. They once again had someone come out to take a look at the hole and put new caution tape. This time they gave me the number of their maintenance department to call them myself.
I called their maintenance number, and they said they had to wait for the 811 people to mark out the utility lines... which had already been done. Then I was told they would get to it in time. Well, I am tired. It has been 54 days. It is growing algae. The 811 markings are getting washed out and overgrown. My one year old daughter caught salmonella and we have to wonder if it's because of the water getting contaminated. I want to call again but they seemed pretty intent on waving me off so I tried being patient, but come on.

BBQ Nachos
Who has the best ones? Central City BBQ was kind of skimpy with the cheese sauce and brisket…bit dissapointing. But good when you got a nice chip.
