📅 Monthly Scheduled Thread 📅 Job Postings & Local Business Promotions – October 2026

This monthly thread is for you to look for jobs, advertise an open position, or promote your local small business. Make sure you read the rules below before posting. This thread will be automatically posted on the 1st of every month.

The mods reserve the right to remove any post if it breaks any rules or if we feel that the thread is being gamed in any kind of way. If your post gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No job or employer-seeking posts, or small local business promotions will be allowed on the sub other than on this monthly thread, unless a special circumstance that has already received specific approved by the moderator team.

LOOKING TO HIRE:

  • Be transparent about pay, workload, and job requirements.
  • Include some form of contact information in your post. Do not put an email address directly in the post; link to a company website, social media page, or ask for a DM if an email address must be involved.
  • No multi-level marketing, get-rich-quick posts. Illegitimate businesses or positions will be removed, scammers will be banned.

LOOKING FOR WORK:

  • Keep the post length as short as possible i.e. don't post your entire resume here.
  • Have employers message you via Reddit rather than put your personal information on here.
  • Include what kind of work you're looking for, a short summary of your experience or qualifications, and your availability.

LOOKING TO PROMOTE:

  • Comment in this thread ONLY. No business promotion posts will be allowed on the sub for any reason OTHER than on this monthly thread.
  • Small business in this thread means a staff of 10 or less. If you think your company should be an exception, please send us a modmail and we can discuss.
  • The mod team HIGHLY SUGGESTS that you create a new business account, have it be active for more than 2 weeks and have a positive karma score. If you want to promote your business via your normal account, that may not be the brightest decision you've ever made. If you go this route, try to have the username be indicative of your business.
  • Keep these businesses SFW. If you have a sexy-time kind of business, please be discreet. We're thinking if you sell toys, accessories, lotions etc. NO ONLY FANS ACCOUNTS, SEX WORKERS OR "SERVICES" ALLOWED.
  • If you have more than one location, you're not a small business and need to check with us via modmail before posting.
  • Business owners and employees should NOT spam, message or harass users in any way. You are allowed one comment per thread, per month. Yes, you may answer questions about your business but you can't try to post from multiple accounts about the same business.
  • Make your business comment informative, smart and transparent.
  • Your business should be in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany or Da Paaaarish.
  • NO MLM, PONZI SCHEME, PYRMAID SCHEME, GET RICH QUICK type of posts. This is a 100% firm stance. If you don't think that your business is one of these above listed types but have doubts, it probably is.
  • No churches or religious based businesses. This isn't the place for that, sorry.
  • This is a serious thread, so please keep the jokes and memes to a minimum.
  • Please be kind to the business owners here. This is not a thread to bash businesses. If you do not agree or like the business that is posted, just downvote it. If it breaks a rule, report it. No need for drama.
  • This is for small business, not for national marketing companies or global chains.

The mods will reserve the right to remove any comment if it breaks any rules or if we feel that it's being gamed in any kind of way. If your comment gets removed, please message us via modmail and we will be more than happy to explain why and have a conversation.

Recommendations What do I do now that I know what it means to miss New Orleans?

I lived in New Orleans for 8 years, moved away a little over a year ago. I miss it so much. Moving was the right choice for me, and I can't move back to New Orleans, but oh my heart. I miss it everyday, but right now more than ever. If anyone will understand, it's y'all.

I don't know what I'm looking for with this post. I guess just to let you all know how much I miss you. I'm sitting in my little studio apartment that costs more than my beautiful shotgun did counting down the days until Mardi Gras when I plan to come visit my beloved city.

I'd like to fill the void in a little from afar. Please send me recommendations for books about New Orleans, New Orleans stores and brands, ways to support my love from oh so far away. My heart hurts <3

..and he was genuinely studying MJ music videos with the captions on, getting the lyrics down, which I thought was cool. That’s it.

NOPD trimming the wrong fat

Post image
• Upvotes

The civilians doing these jobs have to clock in everyday and are required to provide results. These generic Criminalist positions being cut for instance, which are forensic analysts that the NOPD doesnt like to pay properly. Probably going to lose one ballistics examiner, two drug analysts, and an advanced crime scene. Everyone losing their jobs though should send the former and current mayor a big thank you note. The Police Technical Specialists / Technicians are often crime scene techs, who arent paid that well either. Cutting an already barebones crime lab means even more years of cases sitting on the shelves. Some of these people have spent a long time in these positions banking on public servants retirement just to have some bureaucrats cut them out for something they have no control - they deserve better.

Is everything at the Monteleone Barber Shop ok? I've been calling for over a week and there's no answer.

Pat, the owner, is the sole barber there and he usually picks up when the phone rings, even during a haircut. I just hope he's on vacation and not out due to illness. Anyone else here a customer there?

Recommendations Why did your trash fee go up? New BGR report on the $24 to $32.25 increase

We're BGR (Bureau of Governmental Research), a nonpartisan nonprofit research group in New Orleans. We just released a report on the sanitation fee and wanted to share the key points here. The City Council's hearing on the Department of Sanitation's 2027 budget is Monday, October 19.

Why New Orleans' Trash Fee Went Up

Before October 2026, New Orleans' sanitation fee hadn't changed since 2011. Meanwhile, the cost of collecting and disposing of the city's trash rose from $35.7 million in 2021 to a projected $61.2 million in 2026, driven largely by new contracts signed after Hurricane Ida.

The City covered the difference with General Fund dollars, money that could have paid for police, streets and other services. Based on current budget projections, BGR estimates that from 2021 through 2027, that subsidy will total $80.6 million.

What happens next

Starting in 2028, the fee will adjust every year to match costs. That's a sound fix, but the new law doesn't require anyone to check whether those costs are reasonable before they're passed on to ratepayers.

The City is taking an important first step by cleaning up customer lists, after a state audit found nearly 13,000 potentially ineligible addresses. That could save money.

BGR supports that effort and recommends additional safeguards to keep costs in check:

  • Regular checks of customer lists, preferably monthly
  • A required cost review at least every five years
  • An annual public report on service and costs
  • A public analysis of service options, including twice-weekly pickup and recycling alternatives

Other findings

  • All ratepayers share the cost of recycling. Curbside recycling costs about $11 million a year. Only 41% of households have signed up, but the City pays contractors to serve every location.
  • Some residents want twice-weekly trash pickup restored, which the City estimates would cost about $12 million more a year. The public needs more in-depth information about the costs, benefits and tradeoffs of trash collection options, as well as alternatives for the recycling program.

Is this...a 311 question? ☎️ Parking Enforcement is a joke

Anybody have advice for getting parking Enforcement to actually do their job? I've been reporting a car parked in the bike lane on St. Roch every day for the past 2 weeks and nothing has happened.

If anyone knows the kind geniuses living at 1622 St. Roch, please let them know that they suck.

ATTN: any bar owners / managers / bartenders seeking new entertainment on a slow night: I offer upscale, enthusiast karaoke with the deepest library in the world, and I'm looking to expand to more venues!

My company, Funbox Karaoke, runs the karaoke show on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Le Bon Temps Roulé, a show that often gets packed until as late as 7am. It's extremely different from your usual karaoke show. I offer the largest karaoke library in the world: 700,000 songs. Hell, I've personally produced the backing video for over 3,000 of them. If you've used YouTube karaoke videos before, you may have run into my videos.

The vast majority of my offerings use the original instrumentals using modern karaoke backing tracks rather than the Karafun/Sound Choice type stuff you see at other karaoke joints, and my singers have access to karaoke tracks from almost any band out there. The difference in quality between my show and other karaoke shows is extreme. Other karaoke DJs come to my show to sing!

Obviously, networking is everything, and what I offer partners best with open-minded places with clientele that are really enthusiastic about music, so I figured this would be a great place to reach out in case anyone wanted me to stop by and introduce myself!

If you need numbers to back up the talk, I increased the bar sales on Wednesdays by something hilarious like over 1,000%. If your bar only needs karaoke on a Tuesday or Wednesday, the days that I'm at Le Bon Temps, the good news is that I have four sets of equipment and multiple karaoke DJs trained with my setup who can run the exact same experience, so I can double down on those days as well! I'm down for whatever anyone wants, from seasonal events, to monthlies, to weeklies. Also, private events are my bread and butter.

Oh, and here's my searchable library, if you're interested. All of these are available at all of my shows. https://karaokebook.app/5

⚕️ medical ⚕️ Aetna Vs. Amerihealth Caritase Medicaid

As title suggests. I’m newly approved for Medicaid - YAY ! That being said, I’m trying to decide between these two plans. I notice Amerihealth has $150 more dental coverage, however it has to be provided at an FQHC (I am in need of a few filings, so this is a priority).

However, I’m also in need of stimulant medication, vision, and allergist testing, so I’m just curious if anyone has experience maybe as a provider working with these two plans and has noticed any significant differences in likelihood of charges going through, meds being denied, or any other such situations between these two in particular ! I don’t have any providers yet to ask what they accept, so I can choose the plan first and go from there. Thank you !

Recommendations Unpopular opinion: your outdoor cat/feral cat colony SUCKS. NSFW

Post image
369 Upvotes

This sad sight used to be an ovenbird; a small, migratory warbler known for its surprisingly resonant and pretty song. Chewed up by a feral cat and left. Because cats instinctively kill for fun. Often they don’t even eat what they catch (as was the case with this bird). I’d highly recommend looking up a picture of an alive ovenbird and giving their song a listen. They forage among the tree branches and on the ground (where they also build their nests). Every year they fly 2-3,000 miles each way from their winter home to their breeding grounds. While they aren’t exactly threatened, bird populations across the board are in rapid decline due to many factors. One of those major contributing factors are free-roaming & feral cats which kill 1.3-1.7 billion birds in the United States EVERY YEAR.

Yesterday, I found this sad little thing in front of my neighbor’s home, where they have several food bowls set out for the local strays. I like my neighbors and I even like cats, but I dislike that they feed these cats (who also take shits in my garden).

I know the reaction to this post will mostly be assholes telling me to cry harder or cat people screaming at me to leave their previous fur babies alone, but I don’t care. This is what your outdoor cats and feral cat colonies are doing to the native wildlife and you should have to see it. If I could, I take out a fucking billboard. It’s sick and genuinely a sad and neglectful situation for the cats as well (no I don’t care if your cat “loves being outside”— so does my dog but I take her on walks— I don’t let her roam the streets). If one person sees this an decides to stop letting their cat outside, then it was 100% worth all the shit I’m about to get.

And if you’re wondering what CAN be done about invasive cat populations (bc trust that outdoor/feral cats ARE an invasive species), take a look at what Australia is doing. That’s how you protect your native wildlife.
