Hero of Ages spoilers Do we know how THAT inscription was actually made? Spoiler
I've recently had the idea of recreating Kwaan's inscription, or at least part of it, the whole thing is pretty long, in actual steel to put up on a shelf or wall.
So I was wondering, do we have any idea how the inscription would actually have been made in lore, beyond being "written in steel"? And so consequently, how it should look like. If I do follow through with this project, I'd like it to be somewhat "authentic", and I fear just copying the text into a document and then sending it off for laser engraving would give it a very corporate feel that doesn't match the tone and setting of the books at all. So, what do you think would be a more appropriate way to make this/have it made?

No Spoilers Age appropriate for highschoolers?
Hi everyone! I currently work at a highschool in the Netherlands where we teach students age 12-18. I'm always trying to motivate them to read and to make them enthusiastic, and I know a lot of students who love the fantasy genre (but are past the Hunger Games and similar books).
It's been 6 years since I read the first three Mistborn books, so I can't really remember the details. I was 20ish when I read them, and I was wondering if you think they're age appropriate for 12-18 year olds?
I know that Vin is quite young in the books so it does fit their age bracket, there's nothing sexual in there as far as I remember. They'll probably be a bit tough for the younger students, but I think some of my 15 year old students could take them on language wise.
Just wondering what you think, and if you have any other recommendations otherwise!

Shadows of Self spoilers + Part 1 Did the rule for pushing metal in people's body changed for Era 2? Spoiler
I just finished part 1 of Shadows of Self, and in a couple moments since Allow of Law, it's mentioned how really hard it is to push metal that is piercing or inside people's bodies. But I remember the rule in Era 1 was that it was impossible. Of course, Vin was able to do it against Lord Ruler, but only because she was touching Preservation's power through the mists.
So, did this change or am I misremembering something?

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers New Sanderson reader. What I'm most impressed by so far... Spoiler
Is Vin. I have to admit I gave a little internal groan when she was introduced. I've seen way too many supposedly traumatized, orphaned, teenage girl protagonists (including those I'm guilty of writing myself) who are immediately hyper competent, snarky, quipping, attractive but doesn't know it, the chosen one, etc etc.
I'm so impressed by Sanderson's ability to write her as what she is; an abused kid. How long she takes to marginally trust Kelsier, expects the worst from everyone, her reaction to her old crew being slaughtered, just the way she carries herself and acts. As someone who's studied psychology and also dealt with some shit from a young age myself, it's perhaps the most realistic depiction of someone her age with her past I've seen.
And the best part is because she's been built up well as a character, when she finally does let her snarky side show and starts gaining skills, I'm rooting for her instead of rolling my eyes.
There's a lot to praise in his writing (I'm halfway through mistborn and my first exposure was Triss and the Emerald Sea) but this is what jumped out at me as unexpectedly impressive. Can't wait to see what else he has in store.

Well of Ascension spoilers What is this? Spoiler
Not really spoiler but it’s has writing in it so I thought I’d leave the warning. Is this a printing error on the right side, I’ve never seen anything like it in any book.

Cosmere spoilers Are the noble families inbred? Spoiler
With it being illegal to marry skaa and how small the relative noble families are in the final empire, how inbred are the nobles at this point?

Hero of Ages spoilers ….. speechless Spoiler
Wanna start this off with my opinion. I hate books that end with self sacrifice of the beloved characters. Not because it ruins the story, I just suck at emotions
This mf series not only done it to me with the goat Kelsier, it done it again with the only two people I wanted to make it out 😭😭
That said, after vin murked the lord ruler in the first book it was painfully obvious that either her or sazed were going to die. Nothing gave it away Sanderson just hates us
When does the emptiness feeling go away the lowkey it’s been 3 damn days

Alloy of Law spoilers I'm having trouble visualizing something Spoiler
Near the end of Alloy of Law, Wax saves Marasi by shooting the guy who is holding her as a human shield. From what I understand, he shoots a bullet out of the speed bubble and then shoots another bullet to bounce the bullets off each other in order to hit the bad guy behind Marasi. Is that right? Ignoring the utter impossibility of shooting one bullet with another, I see a few other problems with the physics here.
- How would the second bullet catch up to the first one? From the perspective outside the speed bubble, they were fired at almost the same time so they should be traveling at the same rate. (if your answer is "he steel pushed it," then that only makes point #2 worse)
- If both bullets were fired "off target" from the bad guy (i.e. on a vector other than the one intersecting his head) wouldn't a second bullet just knock the first further off track?
I realize it's a fantasy book and it's not a big deal but usually Sanderson's physics make sense and this scene just doesn't seem to. I just want to see some kind of diagram to visualize how this impossible shot makes sense. Or maybe somebody to tell me that I heard the audiobook wrong.

Cosmere spoilers Atium Retcon? Spoiler
I have only finished TFE as of now and only 1/4 of WoA so I don't want to do some deep search to avoid spoilers... but I have some knowledge about Era 1, so Spoilers Ahead for Era 1
I watched an interesting video about the Mistborn movie and changes approved by Brandon. It's mentioned there that Atium in the movie would be retconned to be an alloy of Atium and Electrum.
But they mentioned in the video that God Metals in Cosmere are supposed to be able to be burned by anyone and not just Mistborns (I don't know the implications of this yet outside of Scadrial) but I think it makes sense because I know that Lerasium is a God Metal that can be burned by anyone in order to make them Mistborn
What does this mean with Atium going forward? I know there would be Era 3 and 4 of Mistborn, so does this retcon only affect the movies or the books in general? Because in Book 1, it's possible (since we barely know about the metals then) that they call the alloy just Atium because how could they know it's not actually Atium, the Lord Ruler calls it Atium, and the Noblemen also calls it Atium... they don't even know Aluminum in Book 1.
They also retconned the Pits of Hathsin, instead of it growing Atium directly, it grows the Electrum-Atium alloy, so how does this work? Shouldn't it just be Pure Atium since it's naturally occurring and is directly tied to Ruin?
They also mentioned that the alloy has to be refined to get Pure Atium, and Pure Atium is also still the economy of Nobles, couldn't the alloy itself just directly be the Economy of Nobles, since the Nobles shouldn't have even known about Pure Atium because there's no need.
Also, what does Pure Atium do if the Alloy is what let's Mistborns see the future?
No spoilers for WoA onwards please, thanks!

No Spoilers Why coins for combat?
I get it about travel - something that rich people always have, comfy to carry, and can be used for payments as well.
But combat... even coins with sharpened edges would be much more effective. Perhaps spheres against armored targets or tough opponents like koloss. Or needles against unprotected ones? Lighter and easier to push, high penetration, low visibility. So, why coin obsession? Am i missing anything?
Also, with every allomancer throwing coins for travel and combat, they should be lying everywhere around, no? Rather weird to read passages like skaa kids killing each other over a coin like it's a great rarity.

Hero of Ages spoilers Mistborn Era 1 Meme Dump Spoiler

I really enjoyed these books! The characters were by far my favorite part, but I also liked the magic system. I'm not usually a hard magic kinda reader, but I found that Sanderson used it really well here. It was fun to see what allowancers, especially Vin, could do with the limitations the magic possessed. I used to think hard magic would be boring, but this series totally converted me.

Hero of Ages spoilers Finished Hero of Ages Spoiler
[[Spoiler Alert] Just my personal opinion on the series
I’ve seen many BookTokers and online reviewers talk about how the ending of The Hero of Ages completely destroyed them and evoked a massive wave of grief.
Frankly, for me, it felt more empty than sad. Because I already knew Elend and Vin were going to die at the end, their deaths weren’t shocking. However, when I reached the epilogue and saw Spook and the rest of the crew find their restored bodies holding hands in a flower bed, it really hit me. After following these two characters through three books and two months of reading, it truly felt like a closed chapter.
Given how Vin and Elend had always been the emotional core of the series, having them die while Sazed became the true Hero of Ages felt a bit strange as a reader. It’s sad, in a way, that they could only find their happy ending in death—though it is satisfying that they both finally achieved what they set out to do. Regardless of how the final twist landed, the epilogue itself was brilliantly placed.
Overall Thoughts:
Book 1 (The Final Empire): Felt like a complete, standalone story. Realistically, you could easily stop there if you wanted to.
Books 2 & 3 (The Well of Ascension & The Hero of Ages): I honestly almost DNF’d both books midway through because the pacing dragged. That said, the final 200–300 pages of each book ramped up so intensely that they ultimately made the books worth continuing.

Hero of Ages spoilers Vin would’ve loved Laufey Spoiler
youtu.beHero of ages Spoilers: RIP Vin you would’ve loved Goddess by Laufey
Heard this song recently again shortly after finishing HoA and it just feels like it works so well for Vin! More specifically how she feels Elend views her during WoA and her struggle with being deified. No idea how much of a cross over between Cosmere fans and Laufey fans there are but just felt the need to share!

Well of Ascension spoilers I love everyone but find it hard to connect to Elend Spoiler
I am in Well of Ascension now and I am enjoying the story so far! Loved Vin, lived the crew, loved Kelsier, loved how The Final Empire ended. There is just one tiny thing: I just cannot seem to connect with Elend? 😭 I know he has a good heart and a good vision and all and Vin thinks he is a good man but I just cannot stand him. I hope this gets better.

Well of Ascension spoilers So Im rereading well of ascension Spoiler
And.ita being maddening the arc of straff army and the assault in Luthadel because, why didn't Vin kill him/try him the moment he arrived in the outskirt? Or after the parley? I honestly cant remember the reason why not, but in the end she still kills him after the assault and they lost so many, so the indecision seems mot. A waste of time or acting because the plot, because after the first assassination attempt, she should have ultra murdered him
Was because Elend didn't want to kill him because he was "idealistic"? Even after all the minologues about how utterly reprehensible he is and he would kill Elen and everybody for his ego?
Was because of Zane? Who also didn't kill him because he was insane?
It just, after returning, the entire Straff arc reads like padding and to hava a forced plot for the Mistborn SUBVERSION the book is making about heoric fantasy/ya of 21 years ago. Like the three way romance or the Kwaan entries.
He really grew outna lot for the stormlight saga huh?

No Spoilers Bands of Mourning Question
Hello all, I've read much of Sanderson's work, but am finally getting around to finishing Mistborn, Era 2. I absolutely loved Era 1 years ago, even some of the grittier, more violent elements. That being said, some of the content in the second era has surprised me in terms of its graphic nature. I just read the beginning of Bands of Mourning and was uncomfortable with the scene described at the end of the prologue. Could anyone tell me if the rest of the book contains similar moments? I'd just like to know what I'm getting myself into! Thanks so much and sorry in advance to anyone who reads much more violent content than Mistborn and thinks I'm a wimp lol
