Guide 2026 General Mini PC Guide USA

Hi everyone!

Thank you to everyone for their support of the Mini PC Guides and it is amazing to see the r/MiniPCs community has grown its largest ever before! These guides have evolved considerably since 2022 and the new 2026 version is finally here!

It's far from complete with many new and discontinued mini PC models to be updated so there will be regular updates. The end of 2025 and start of 2026 have seen RAM prices double or triple and SSD prices have doubled. The simple tab has been reworked to better reflect current prices and will be filled out soon.

Some of the bloat from the 2025 Guide has been temporarily removed and may see a return later in the year if you particularly want a new model list, memes, or something else.

If you see something that can use an update or models of mini pc you would like to see added, don't hesitate to leave comments in this post or on the spreadsheet. I highly recommend viewing this spreadsheet on a desktop with a large screen or on the google sheet mobile app for the best experience. The reddit app for viewing google sheets can be clunky.

General Question Windows 7 on a Ryzen 7 5825U mini PC – possible?

I want to turn my Blackview MP100 into a dedicated Windows 7 retro gaming PC.

Specs:

- Ryzen 7 5825U (8C/16T)

- Integrated AMD Radeon Vega graphics

- 32 GB dual-channel DDR4

- 1 TB M.2 SSD + 1 TB HDD

Are there any community-made driver packs or modified drivers specifically compatible with this hardware?

I need full graphics acceleration, all USB-A/USB-C ports working, and proper support for three monitors, ideally with all other onboard devices working too.

Has anyone achieved this on the 5825U or similar Ryzen hardware? Is there a realistic way to get full Windows 7 support, or is this simply not feasible due to missing drivers?

Any concrete links or guides would be greatly appreciated!

AOOSTAR GOD88 Mini PC suddenly died - power LED flashes and fan twitches, no boot. Motherboard short or power delivery failure?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help diagnosing an AOOSTAR GOD88 Mini PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor.

The computer was working perfectly fine before suddenly shutting off while essentially idle, with only my browser open.

Since then, it has been completely unable to power on.

Symptoms:

  • Pressing the power button causes the power LED to flash for a fraction of a second.
  • The cooling fan barely twitches before stopping.
  • No display, POST, BIOS, or sustained power.
  • The behaviour repeats when attempting to start it.

What I've tested:

  1. Disconnected all peripherals and left the computer unplugged.
  2. Performed a power reset by holding the power button while disconnected.
  3. Tried starting it with only the power adapter connected.
  4. Took it to Matrix Warehouse, where they tested another 20V/4.5A (90W) adapter. The exact same thing happened.
  5. Opened the computer and visually inspected the motherboard. No obvious burnt components or visible damage.

Original power adapter:

  • Huntkey HKA100250-OA6
  • 20V DC, 5A, 100W
  • USB-C connector

One complication is that the original adapter only lists a 20V output, and I'm unsure whether the GOD88 uses standard USB-C PD negotiation or a fixed-voltage USB-C power arrangement. I haven't confirmed that the alternative adapter was electrically equivalent.

I have contacted AOOSTAR support many times but haven't received a response.

Questions for anyone experienced with mini PC or motherboard repairs:

  1. Does this symptom suggest a shorted input MOSFET, capacitor, VRM component, or another power-delivery fault?
  2. Has anyone encountered this specific failure on an AOOSTAR GOD88 or another AOOSTAR mini PC?
  3. What would be the logical diagnostic sequence for a technician with a multimeter and bench power supply?
  4. Are there known problems with the GOD88's power input circuitry?
  5. Is board-level repair realistic, or would motherboard replacement be more economical?
  6. Does anyone know whether this model requires a fixed 20V USB-C adapter or supports standard USB-C PD?

I'm based in South Africa, so sending the entire unit overseas for repair would be expensive. Ideally, I'd like to identify the failed component and have it repaired locally.

Any guidance, schematics, repair experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

General Question Just got an Aoostar Maco (8845HS). How should I connect it to my 4K60 monitor? And what first tests should I run?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I just picked up my first mini pc, Aoostar Maco with the Ryzen 7 8845HS. I have a 4K 60Hz monitor that also has a USB-C dock built in (96W power delivery).

  1. Should I use HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C to connect to the monitor? If I use USB-C to the monitor dock, do I still need to plug in the Maco’s own power adapter? The dock is 96W, but the Maco’s brick is 120W, so I’m guessing yes? Also how will it work, will the monitor know that the maco has its own power adapter, or will it receive 120W+96W of power?

  2. What should I do first to make sure the unit is good? I was planning MemTest86, HWiNFO64 for temps, and 3DMark. Anything else? Should I update BIOS/chipset drivers?

  3. there are heat pads, metal sink and rubber bands for the ssd, really nice that they included it even though it is a barebone. I have a pci 3.0 ssd, do I even need them?

Thanks!

Can someone recommend the best mini pc for my needs?

We want to travel with our side business and need the smallest footprint possible. I already bought a portable monitor cheap. Im concerned about power consumption if we are out camping. We have a 150amp lithium 12v battery bank we will utilize when needed. Ill invest in more power if this works out.

I'm looking for at least 16gb ram but 32 preferred and a semi modern processor just so there are no hiccups

I'll be using silhouette studio for running 5 to 10 silhouette cameo 3 machines. Already have a dedicated mini tower with an older i5 Intel. It does not always run smooth. Unsure if this is a hardware problem of silhouette software but I would still like a bit of an upgrade just in case and to future proof a bit.

I've been looking at some used ones on ebay at auction and unsure if this is the way to go or not. I'd like to get the best bang for my buck, keep it as cheap as possible in case all this doesn't work out but hope to keep it below $350 tops regardless.

Hardware Do OCuLink NAS enclosures exist?

I am thinking of buying a MiniPC that has an OCuLink port. It has 3 NVMe slots, but I want to build a 5-6-bay HDD NAS with this MiniPC as the brain.

I saw a lot of PCIe enclosures built for eGPUs. But I was hoping to find eNAS enclosures that connect over OCuLink without having to build one with a PCIe card for a SATA interface.

Edit: as corrected by others below, DAS is what I am looking for. Not NAS.

Is this a good buy?

I want to play some games like Stellaris and Nuclear option. I got the GEEKOM A6 Mini PC, Ryzen 7 6800H, 16GB DDR5
Upgradable RAM 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for 450. Is it a good buy or should I just get a regular pc for 700 instead?

Fractal Design Ridge + SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 OC 16GB – A Few More Details on GPU Fitment

Thumbnail

Nothing particularly groundbreaking here, but when I was putting together my latest build, I found it surprisingly difficult to find detailed information beyond just "yes, it fits."

Some posts mentioned having to remove or loosen part of the case frame, while others suggested removing a component from the GPU itself.

So, just to clarify things based on my own experience:

  • The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 / 9070 XT fits inside the Fractal Design Ridge.
  • Installation requires removing two additional screws (marked in photo [1]) and gently flexing the left metal section of the case frame outward [2] to create enough clearance for the GPU.
  • However, you won't be able to fully close the top of the case afterward. The screw holes won't line up, no matter how much you try to push it into place [3]. The interference is caused by the case's side panel mounting clip coming into contact with the GPU's decorative side panel [4].
  • The solution is to remove the GPU's plastic side panel, which is held in place by six screws, and leave it off. Once that's done, the case closes perfectly, with everything lining up as it should.

One thing that really makes this setup possible is the placement of the GPU's power connector.

Having it recessed into the card rather than sticking out from the edge makes a huge difference. It allows this kind of tight fit without having to awkwardly or excessively bend the power cable or put unnecessary stress on the connector.

Hopefully, this helps anyone considering the same GPU + case combination! :)

A quick update for those keeping an eye on the Geekom A5: The 2027 refresh retains the familiar rose-gold chassis of the 5800H model but makes a massive leap forward in terms of emissions.

- Noise level: max. 31.5 dB(A) under full load (the predecessor was significantly louder).

- Features: 2.5G LAN, UHS-II SD card reader, support for 4 simultaneous displays.

- Downside: still no USB4/Thunderbolt.

Mini Pc for High Refresh Rate Monitors

Hi,

I would like to get rid of my bulky desktop PC. I have two monitors. 1440p@180Hz and FullHD@240Hz.
My eyes are really used to the high refresh rate. I don’t want to switch back to 60 Hz.

Are there any Mini Pc which can handle this?
Is the Mini PC joutney to me or stick with the Desktop PC?

Recommendations Need recommendation for a replacement PC

Hello,

So, long story short, my Minisforum UM773 SE was not powering on, and I took it to a repair shop to have it looked at. It turned out that it had a burned mosfet near the DC port, and enough of the motherboard was affected to where replacing a few parts would not be an option, and it is unfixable. Now, I'm trying to decide on a replacement mini PC that has equivalent or just slightly improved specs and efficient cooling.

Since beginning my search, I have heard that it is best to avoid Minisforum, but then I see others with Minisforum PCs having had no issues at all.

I found a refurbished Minisforum UM773, barebone that I am considering because, since I have the SSD, RAM, and Wifi card from my old PC, I can just install it into this refurbished one. Swapping out the SE shell (Sakura Edition) and putting onto the refurbished PC would definitely void my 1 year warranty as I was told, so I'm turning away from that option.

So, I have moved onto some Geekom mini PCs. I first came across the Geekom A5 here, and it looks pretty good. I did notice the DDR4 instead of the DDR5 in the UM773. Is that a big difference? And is it related to RAM at all? The UM773 also has the 680M graphics, but I can't tell what the graphics are on the A5. I do some light to medium gaming, but nothing really heavy like AAA games, by the way. Would the A5 2027 Edition be a downgrade from the UM773?

I am also considering the Geekom A6 here, because it has the same graphics, 680m, and ddr5, just like my UM773 did. I also think that the Minisforum UM773 has dual RAM sticks because I because two sticks were removed from the PC at the shop.

One more model I am considering is the Geekom AX8 Max . I love the light purple color instead of just silver, gray, or black on most PCs. Plus it's an upgrade to my previous Minisforum. However, it is the priciest of the 3.

If anyone can assist in my decision, offer advice, recommendations, how these models compare to the UM773, and so on, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Why never ASRock DeskMini X600 + Ryzen 8700G ?

Whenever someone asks for mini PC recommendations, why do I never see the ASRock DeskMini X600 paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G being suggested? It delivers performance comparable to an AMD 8845HS, but with the build quality of ASUS

General Question Soyo s4 plus r7 h255 24gb ram for 345€

Thumbnail

after 39€ discount price drops to 345€

My question is which one should I buy, the aoostar barebone is 270€.

Of course it seems like the soyo s4 plus is a steal. (the deal is only in germany i think)

But the brand soyo is rather not well known and I dont know how reliable it is.
The purchase is from aliexpress, and therefore probably no warranty.
the ram even though 24gb ram is enough for me, its soldered, when the ram fails, the whole pc is broken.

The aoostar barebone costs 270€ + 16gb ddr5 ram (used costs 110€) + ssd (50€)

Troubleshooting Arctic Senza Passive MiniPC - CPU cooling mounting screws just keep spinning, I can't remove the radiator

Hi Everyone.

I'm not using that PC lately so wanted to sell the CPU and they are quite expensive and leave the barebone for now to come back to this PC in the future eventually.

I removed the cooling just fine, removed the CPU and installed the cooling back on just without the CPU. And now I've got a problem as both screws just keep spinning both directions, so I wont be able to remove the cooling if needed in the future.

I was very gentle with everything, it's not my first PC I worked on, so there is no way I overtightened those screws or something. Both screws act exactly the same, I can't see anything on the back of the chassis.

I wonder if maybe there are such "gold" mounts underneath that are used between the motherboard and PC chassis, that sometimes became loose and were causing such issue? Or is it some kind of pressure safety feature when the CPU is not installed so it prevents the overtightening?

https://vimeo.com/1236319317?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci

This is the video showing what I mean.

Beelink EQR5 secure wall mount?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've seen a number of Beelink EQR5 wall/desk mounts, but I was looking for something with a little bit of added security for use in a somewhat public space. You know, along the lines of "locks keep honest people honest" — not an impenetrable fortress, but a deterrent.

A friend had an older Aoduke Mac Mini G4 secure mount and wasn't using it anymore. If you remove some of the rubber strips on the inside, an EQR5 slides in nicely with all ports available. Test fitting pic above. My main concern is that there is only a small gap between the security bar and the rear cooling vents (maybe 1–1.5cm).

Anyone else have an EQR5 in a secure mount? Thoughts?

(the lock in the pic is an example; something stronger would be used if this mount was used)

EDIT: yes, as noted, there is not much gap between the bar and the exhaust vents. Options include:

  • something besides the bar that is narrow to offer better airflow, like a cable that fits through;
  • a different mount that has a security option;
  • some other physical security solution, like a security cable;
  • no physical security at all.

GMKTec owners - repaste! holy cow what a difference!

My daughters have had GMKTec G3 Plus's for 2 years now. Great little PC's, and they use them daily.

One of my daughters mentioned how noisy hers was when gaming. I did some reading and saw about people saying to repaste them.

I did them both, and man it made a difference. Went from hair dryer to dead quiet.

Pop the top off and 4 screws to remove the motherboard, flip it over, then remove the heat sink. The old paste was awful, rock hard. The new paste I used is cheap stuff, like I ordered 5 pack of tubes of it for $5 on ebay years ago, and all it has is chinese lettering on it, lol. But it was infinitely better than what was on there.

Took 10 minutes per box, and it made an absolutely noticeable difference.
