[Announcement] New Rule Against AI, other Rule Changes and Clarifications

Hey folks!

For a while now, the mod team has been discussing a number of changes to the subreddit's rules, and it's time to let you know what's up. I'll give you the short version first:

  1. We have a new rule against AI.
  2. The rule for for formatting and vagueness has been split in two.
  3. The rule against unrealistic ideas has been reworked.
  4. To better accommodate these new and changed rules, we've re-ordered the rules.
  5. Clarification on how the "Community Question" flair is supposed to be used.

And now for the details!

Ban Against AI Generated Content

We not so recently polled the community on your feeling on AI generated content, and the overwhelming majority of you voted in favour of a complete ban against AI. While this was pretty much the outcome we expected, it's still really nice to see we're all on the same page.

Moving forwards the mods will be removing all posts suspected of using generative AI. To that end, here's the new rule:

Don't use AI.

  • Do not use generative AI such as chatGPT to write your post for you. We want to see your ideas.
  • Don't include AI generated images or other AI content to supplement your post. We encourage human art, and we'd much rather see photos of pen-and-paper drawings, or quick mockups in MS paint than AI "art".
  • This includes using generative AI to polish your idea, such as reformatting your content.

Posts suspected of using generative AI are at risk of removal.

If your post is incorrectly removed for containing AI, please let the mods know via modmail and we'll sort it out.

Formatting and Image Posts

We've noticed some confusion on where and how we allow images in posts, with too many users relying on images alone to communicate their idea. This was previously just a bullet point under the vagueness rule, but in the interest of clarity we've split it off into its own rule. There's nothing actually new here - everything works the same as before - but hopefully this should make it clearer for everyone.

The vagueness rule looks like this now:

Don't be overly vague, and be readable.

  • Make sure your idea is in the description, not just the title.
  • Titles should be descriptive of the idea.
  • Format your posts well; don't post walls of text. Use line breaks, etc.
  • Don't be vague; suggest a specific improvement or feature.
  • Be concise/don't waffle on too much.

Vague or unformatted posts are at risk of removal.

And here's the images rule:

Don't make image-only posts.

Including reference images is encouraged, but: * Images must be embedded or linked within a text post. * The idea should be fully explained in the text, with all key points understandable without looking at any images. * Images should make up a relatively small portion of the content. * Images must not be AI generated. (See rule 4.)

Image only posts will be automatically removed.

Unrealistic and Off-Theme Content

There's been some disagreement in the community and among the mod team about what is and isn't a "realistic" suggestion for Minecraft, especially as the game has grown it's become an increasingly difficult call to make. Furthermore, many ideas that are off-theme at first glance can be reskinned to something more reasonable, and we don't want to stifle that discussion. (E.g., Blimps and firearms may be too futuristic but happy ghasts and firework crossbows are not, yet serve similar roles.)

You deserve to have clear guidelines for which posts are or aren't allowed and, ultimately, we don't want to shut down discussion, so we've decided to soften this rule dramatically. Moving forwards, we'll only be taking down suggestions involving mature or explicit themes (stuff that might change the age-rating), as well as anything relating to real-world religions or politics. All that said, here's the rule:

Don't suggest mature topics.

  • Don't suggest ideas containing sex, drugs, gore, real-life religions or politics, etc.

Suggestions involving mature, explicit, or overly divisive themes will be removed.

This is one we'll be keeping an eye on, and we'd appreciate any feedback you have on it.

N.B. The portion of the old rule about easter-eggs and jokes still applies, but has been merged into the rule about unproductive ideas.

Reordering

As we're adding new rules and splitting old ones in twain, there's no better time to also rearrange the rules. We've brought some more important/frequently used rules closer to the top, and tried to keep related rules close to each other. We've also changed a few of the titles for clarity.

  1. Be nice and constructive.
  2. Only post ideas for Minecraft.
  3. Be original and consult the FPS list.
  4. Don't use AI.
  5. Include only one suggestion per post.
  6. Don't be overly vague, and be readable.
  7. Don't make image-only posts.
  8. Don't suggest mature topics.
  9. Don't suggest planned or existing features.
  10. Don't suggest scrapped or unused features.
  11. Don't suggest low-priority or unproductive ideas.
  12. Speak English.
  13. Have 10 comment karma before posting.

Discussion/Community Question Posts

We've seen some confusion surrounding these posts, and while nothing is changing, we wanted to use this opportunity to clarify. Posts meant to start broad discussions on a topic, such as "What would you add in XYZ update?" or "What do you think needs updated in XYZ area of the game?" are allowed, so long as the OP contributes to the discussion they want to start. We find these posts regularly generate interesting discussion, and so long as they use the correct flair, they're easy enough to ignore if they're not your cup of tea.

I encourage everyone to take a quick read through the rules to make sure we're all on the same page.

Thanks for reading!

[Blocks & Items] Frozen in Ice/Snow-Buried Artifacts [Ice Caves]

Suspicious Snow Artifacts/Treasure:
Like the title implies, what if as an extra bonus element of resource gathering in frozen caves, copy over the suspicious sand mechanic over to snow blocks.
With these snow blocks, a brush is needed to uncover treasures, leaning more into the “lost items vibe.” Either your classic minerals and treasures, or the odder items you might find while fishing, etc.

Frozen in Ice Artifacts:
A more drastic addition would be Ice-Encased [Encasing Ice ?] treasures.
Similar to the snow above, but you can see the item frozen in the center, meaning bones, artefacts, and maps could be more fun in this scenario.

Breaking it with a Silk Touch Pickaxe, drops both the Encasing Ice as well as the item within. (Also it “pops-upward” from the ice, like uncovered suspicious sand items, to work with ideas below.)

This means it could make an excellent display case as well, maybe created by dropping an item in water surrounded by 4-6(?) brittle ice blocks.

It could even spawn naturally in the center of a sheet of brittle ice, creating an “Indiana Jones-type” scenario where you need to dig it up before the ice breaks under you.

…Alternates rules for Stuck-in-Ice Artifacts:
…If you don’t want it to be ‘silk-touch-locked’, it could just be a trigger block, causing all brittle ice to shatter around it. This could work with trope-y “treasure in a wall of ice:” freeing a bunch of ice zombies at the same time as the treasure.
Or you need to break the directly adjacent ice (then the treasure one) or both the treasure is lost and the ice shatters below you…

[Mobs] Giant Forest for the Giant mob

Post image
277 Upvotes

How would you guys feel about the implementation of the Giant mob (with a retexture so its not just a supersized zombie) exclusive to a new biome with terrain built to fit its AI and pathfinding? I imagined it looking something like this illustration from Attack on Titan as well as villages built high up on the trees with bridges connecting them, high enough to where the giants cant reach, showing that they build them as a way to protect themselves from the native giants (also maybe inspired by attack on titan)

[Terrain] Add continents/larger oceans back, but also add actual islands (as a biome)

• Upvotes

I prefer the larger oceans we had back in the day. I understand why certain people don't like the huge distances they had to cross. One of the issues is that there is just too much boring open space with nothing to explore, but why not add actual Islands as a biome to fill in the gaps?

Off the top of my hat I can think of:

  • Volcanic islands
  • Palmtrees (and coconuts)
  • Larger beaches
  • Jungle islands
  • Island groups
  • Classic small survival islands with a single tree
  • Island villages (with tiki torches as a new light source)
  • ...

I know that regular terrain generation can already create islands, but these are rare and not really purposely made to be islands.

Also, why can't there be a middle ground? There could be continents, but the distance between them doesn't have to be that huge. At least we wouldn't have just ponds between land like we have now. It's either been huge oceans or tiny "oceans", but why not a size in between like regular or large?

[Dimensions] Alternative for activating the portal to the Sift dimension

Thumbnail

Thanks to Minecraft Dungeons 2, a potential method for activating the portal to the SIFT dimension has been leaked. However, using note blocks feels a bit too cheap and easy—they’re just too simple to obtain. My idea is to introduce a special item to help activate the SIFT portal, without needing to replace the note blocks themselves.

CRYSTAL SKULLS

IMAGE 1: A note block can emit the sounds of a specific mob if a mob head is placed on top of it (e.g., a zombie head produces zombie sounds). If you place a crystal skull on top instead, it will emit beautiful, long, resonant sounds—reminiscent of the tones produced by amethyst.

IMAGE 2: Crystal skulls exist in the real world; they are human-shaped skulls carved from quartz, "often associated with Aztec legends and said to possess mystical powers".

IMAGE 3: Crystal skulls could be found in underwater ruins and trail ruins—the same structures where you can currently find pottery shards (SINGER) and sniffer eggs—which, in theory, could belong to the SIFT dimension.

IMAGE 4: To activate the portal to the SIFT dimension, you would need to arrange the note blocks—with their respective crystal skulls on top—in a specific sequence. This would cause the skulls to resonate and produce a beautiful, harmonious sound together.

In my opinion, this would be a much better way to activate such a valuable portal. But what do you think?

[General] Happy ghasts should dispense water

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

So here is how it works:

Happy ghast can dispense a water block/bucket infront of it.

If the water happens to be placed on/next to another block then it creates a waterfall.

This can be a faster way of getting up and down instead of steering the ghast itself.

However if the water is placed with only air surrounding it then it will be similar to how waterfalls go down after removing their source block.

This can be a great way to deal with fires due to how fast and high they spread.

You could also use it to jump off the ghast and survive or clear out mobs beneath you (since water pushes them)

Perhaps it's output could change depending on what you feed it.

Snowballs = water

Iceballs = ice

Though I'm not too sure how a floating block of ice would be too useful.

[User Interface] Kurdish language support for minecraft

Perhaps not the most urgent thing but it would be nice if Minecraft added support for Kurmanji and Sorani (and maybe zazaki or some other less spoken dialects)

Before someone says this isn't super important, adding Lojban to the list of languages was also never that important (Lojban is a constructed language for context)

[Mobs] Can we update Happy Ghast

I love happy Ghasts’ and I think they are a great addition to the game, but I really think they need a speed update. Maybe give them stats like horses? I don’t know the solution, but it’s really crazy how SLOW they are. It doesn’t feel proportional to their general utility.

Love them though

[Dimensions] New End Biome: Protobyle Columns

Thumbnail
gallery
386 Upvotes

a short post. This biome is very early concept, hoping to get some feedback for possible ideas for some of the new items and blocks. This is what I have conceptualised for the biome so far:

Biome Features (Images 1 & 2):
Walking through this biome, it is made up mostly of the typical Endstone. however, instead of finding chorus plants growing in this biome, brand new dark green pillar-like structures can be found generated called Protobyles. Protobyles are a new plant-like structure (not actually plants), that take inspiration from real life, prehistoric Protoaxites. Protobyles would essentially be the End’s lush ‘forests’, despite how empty the biome still looks.

Protobyles can be mined with an axe to obtain new green planks. sitting at the top of some Protobyle structures, are flowering Protobyle, which can be bonemealed to grow new Protobyles. When a Protobyle is grown, new plant-like foliage can generate around the structure, called Protoloid. Within some of the Protobyle structures, are hollowed out, filled up with a new block called Enderplasm, which is generated by a brand new hostile mob.

Octomaul (Image 3):
As mentioned before, Octomauls are a brand new hostile mob that spawn exclusively within this biome. They contain very little health of around 10HP, but their real danger comes from swarms, able to quickly overwhelm players if not dealt with swiftly. When they are aggressive or attacking, their eyes can be shown to be heavily dilated. Killing a Octomaul has a small chance of dropping its appendages.

I also plan to give Octomaul‘s the ability to convert any log types into Enderplasm, that take a long process. Let me know what you think of this.

Uses (Image 4):

As mentioned before, this is a very early concept, but I do have a few ideas or concepts made for certain blocks/items.

  • Octomaul Appendage: this item could be crafted to make a brand new item, capable of allowing the player to manoeuvre sideways or underneath structures/blocks. Very useful for climbing caves and end islands, as well as building.
  • Enderplasm: currently unsure what it’s true use could be. However, Ive been brewing ideas for having the ability to manipulate tick speeds? One instance, you could consume enderplasm and it temporarily slows down the games tick speed under a new effect. On top of that, it could have some unique Redstone uses like slime and honey blocks, either attaching to only itself, or being configured to stick to specific blocks.

Hope you like this idea, and any feedback for this post would be greatly appreciated!

[Blocks & Items] For consistency with snowballs, please allow us to craft 4 iceballs into one packed ice & one packed ice into 4 iceballs

For some reason, not too many people are talking about this, and I think it's such a big deal if implemented, and a massive missed opportunity if not. The title is self-explanatory, but it would basically allow iceballs to be more accessible aside from fighting frostbites and give us a way to compact lots of iceballs to free up inventory space, considering they're only stackable to 16 like other projectiles. Moreover, since the iceball texture is not transparent and is closer to packed ice's color, it makes even more sense. There's even been a feedback site thread as well as a few feedback Discord threads suggesting this, but it's gained very little traction. So I thought I'd bring it to attention here!

(I heavily encourage you to upvote the above linked threads, especially if you happen to be in the MC feedback Discord!)

[Blocks & Items] "Frosted Blocks"

The talk around the new Packed Ice Bricks got me thinking. What if you could use Ice Balls (or perhaps a new item, Ice Balls are just the best fit I can think of) to apply 'Frost' to certain blocks, like how you use Honeycomb to apply wax?

All it does is make the block slippery, to the same degree as a regular Ice Block.

As for what blocks in particular it'd be applicable to... I'm honestly not entirely sure? But my first thoughts are Packed Ice Bricks, Snow blocks, and any "stone" type blocks (Stone/Deepslate/Granite/Calcite/End Stone etc etc)

It would probably have to either be more conservative with what blocks it can apply to, or simply be a block state rather than an actual change in blocks like waxing. Otherwise I think this would really mess up the creative menu

[Blocks & Items] Soul TNT?

Basically just TNT crafted with Soul Sand/Soil instead of Sand. It explodes a larger area than regular TNT, but the tradeoff is it replaces some of the surrounding blocks with Soul Sand/Soil with Soul Fire on it. I don't know, I thought of this and think it's a decent idea. What does Reddit think?

[Blocks & Items] “Deep” waxing

If you wax a block by clicking on it with honeycomb, it can be unwaxed using an axe. My idea is that if you instead combine the block with a honeycomb in the crafting menu, you get a “deep waxed” version.

Deeply waxed blocks can’t be unwaxed using an axe, meaning you won’t accidentally mess up your builds, and people can’t just undo the waxing to grief you.

The name might need a change tho

[Blocks & Items] Snowball On A Stick

Post image
65 Upvotes

Happy ghasts can be tediously slow when you need to move them more than 20 blocks. Getting between builds or moving mobs with a happy ghast is boring.

This would be helped by having a snowball on a stick item that funtions like a carrot on a stick does for a pig. When holding it a happy ghast would move in the direction it's being pointed, and when you right click the ghast would move faster(sprinting speed) for a short period of time in exchange for some durability. When durability reaches 0 it becomes a fishing rod.

Players could then get between builds much easier and transport mobs long distances without having to physically hold down a key.

[Combat] Item drop for Iceoleger: Frozen core -> Ice Staff

Post image
226 Upvotes

About the winter drop. While I'm not sure how iceoleger would fit into the game as of now, I'm already imagining the appropriate reward for defeating them. Yes, I'm well aware that it's not like we know how Iceoleger would work in the first place to determine its item drop, but listen, I just had to get this out of my system, hope you guys will like my idea anyway!

Frozen core

Frozen core is an item dropped by iceoleger. It can be placed as a block, similar to heavy core. But what's useful, when it's placed, it will affect the surrounding 8x8x8 block with a few special environmental behaviors:

- Surface of water would become frozen over time, similar to how water reacts in snowy biomes.

- Any body of water would inflict the freezing effect.

- Snow golem doesn't melt regardless of which biome they are in.

Ice Staff

Crafted with frozen core, breeze rod, and blue ice, ice staff lets players build/place their own frosted ice block at will—the very same block frost walker enchanted boots create when walking on water, frosted ice on ice staff shares identical behaviors with the enchanted one. It costs 1 durability for each frosted ice placed.

This frosted ice placing ability would be perfect for temporary builds in PVP, like when you want to get across a gap one-way, or blocking the enemie's way for a few seconds by building walls. This ability is also appropriate for traversal in general, like when you want to reach a certain height without leaving any litter behind, or bridging from one terrain to the other.

The full amount of durability for ice staff is 250. Ice staff can be “recharged” by putting it on the crafting grdi with blue ice, which adds back 50 durability. This encourages ice staff users to carry blue ice around during their travel.

Ice staff also have a unique melee ability. It inflicts freezing effect to whoever was hit by it for 4 seconds, as if players are adopting Frostbite's attack. The attack range for ice staff is 4 block max, a bit farther than normal weapons. Its strength, however, is only 6 heart points, similar to iron sword.

The primary use for ice staff is for traversing the terrains with a niche melee attack attached to it. Ice staff isn't intended to be the ultimate weapon for quick killing, but a convenient tool for swift movement that still deals reasonable damage to enemies.

[Blocks & Items] A new saw item to convert blocks

Inspired by this post I “saw” earlier: https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/s/LpE3AL3b6f

Idea

My idea is that using a saw on a block would knock it down a peg to a smaller variant. So sawing a wooden plank would turn it into a wooden stair, sawing it again would turn it into a slab, and sawing a slab would break it, dropping a single plank item.

For the stair, the orientation of the stair would depend on what angle you approach the block from when you saw it. Sawing on the top half makes the stair right-side-up, while sawing on the bottom half makes it upside down. Which way it’s facing depends on which way you look at it from.

It would work on anything with stair and slab variants, including stone.

Crafting

The crafting recipe would be a stick, an iron ingot, and another iron ingot, from left to right.

I think this would be cool because

a) it allows us to “stonecut” wood

b) it’s faster and helpful for small, quick changes to a build

[Plants & Food] The Pitcher Plant that the Sniffer can dig up has the ability to lure in and kill arthropod mobs.

In real-life pitcher plants are carnivorous, so I figured why not put that trait to use?

Any arthropod mob (spiders and variants, silverfish, endermites, bees) that come within ten blocks of a pitcher plant will begin uncontrollably moving towards it. Once the mob reaches the pitcher plant a special animation will play where the plant consumes the mob, before the mob disappears.

After three seconds pass white smoke will rise from the plant and the plant will spit out the mob's drops. Note that any arthropod mob devoured by a pitcher plant will not drop experience.

[Blocks & Items] Chippable Brittle Ice

Something that could be an easier way to use the new Brittle Ice in buildings:

Right-clickling a Brittle Ice block with a pickaxe should add 1 "cracking level" to the ice (consuming the pickaxe's durability). This way, it's easier to add details to ice buildings without having to step on the Brittle Ice and risk to slip off or standing on it for too much time.

At the same time, Right-clickling a Brittle Ice block that has already been cracked at least once with an Ice Ball in hand could consume the Ice Ball and repair 1 "cracking level" of the block

[Magic] The sift and soul system could change enchanting for good

Post image
160 Upvotes

So with the sift dimension coming out some time next year, it could produce a lot of possibilities of ways to change Minecraft. One part of Minecraft that needs the biggest change is definitely the enchantment system. For me and a lot of other players I’m sure too, enchanting can be boring. The sift may introduce some kind of soul system to the game, that would likely be exclusive to the sift and here is an idea for how I would like it to go.

First let me say, I think the villager trade rebalance should be implemented in this version so that you can’t just reroll as much as you want just to get whatever book you want. You will know what kind of villager you need for which enchantment you want. Every enchantment book that a villager trades would now require soul blocks along with emeralds (just for librarians). It would require more the better the enchantment book. It makes sense because enchanted books are magic so you may as well have to pay some magic in return.

In the sift you would collect souls through some sort of device (Maybe crafted with echo shards) after killing specifically sculk related mobs. After killing the mobs they would drop soul powder, and 9 of them could be crafted into a soul block like you see those echo golems carry around. The drop rates would honestly depend on how often sculk mobs spawn in the sift but would go up with looting.

Now for the enchanting table, a soul block spot would be introduced, but not needed. Lapis Lazuli would also still be needed for enchanting every tool but soul blocks would not. Soul blocks would only be required on certain enchantments that shouldn’t be able to be acquired till late game (efficiency V, IV, Protection IV, III, looting/fortune III, etc.) Other enchantments you might not see used as much now might start being used like fire protection, bane of arthropods, projectile protection, and such because these at a higher enchant level would not require soul blocks. Only enchantments deemed endgame by mojang would require soul blocks.

A big part of this would be to slow progression down, there is no reason in my mind that you should be able to be nearly unkillable by the time you get to the nether. By limiting trading with villagers it would promote exploring or fishing for books again. The enchantment table would be used more because you don’t have a million books to throw on the anvil right away.

This anvil section will be short because I don’t know what to change. I would be down to hear suggestions but making the books harder to get would help balance it.

This change is definitely a possibility in Minecraft, knowing that the villager rebalance is toggleable right now and that a new mechanic with souls is coming. I believe that this would make enchanting more exciting than just rerolling villagers all day and get players to try on some other enchantments that would maybe just never be used through the enchantment table. Most importantly it creates a pretty decent reason to go to the sift because right now we don’t know where it lines up with progression. I would like to think it is after the end but I can’t be sure.

TLDR; Soul blocks could completely transform enchanting through the table and trades. It would stop players from becoming over powered early game and create a reason to go to the sift.

[Blocks & Items] A hammer that changes blocks to stairs and other shapes, like a debug stick or like in Terraria

Players ahould be able to change block shapes, for example plank blocks into plank stairs, but transformng them one to one, so that you can transform one stack to a stack of a different shape, avoiding slots with remainder blocks and convoluted ratios.

This would make blocks like stone cutters less useful, but you can still use it for villiager professions and to use it if you dont have the new tool, which could be found in chests or it could be very expensive to craft with netherite, so that it becomes more of a late game item and keeps the stone cutter useful, which doesnt degrade and is much cheaper.

You could use the hammer by right click while crouching, and an interface similar to the stone cutter appears, where you can place a block and select the shape you want instead.

The hammer could also be set to a specific shape, and when using it on a block that is already placed, it changes the shape to the set shape, so that you dont have to break and rebuild if you just want to change the shape.

How do you think can this idea be further improved?

[Blocks & Items] Have ice bricks & variants be slippery like packed ice

They're crafted directly from packed ice. I'd understand if there was, like, cobblestone mixed in, but it's just ice. Why do they not preserve the lower friction?

[Bedrock Edition] Placeable Pocket Jukebox

I feel that it should be placeable and work as a counterpart to the chest. It would only play it's music aloud when placed on a jukebox for stationary use, and to the player only when in their inventory.

This way you could have easily interchangeable playlists and play them stationary at a jukebox or grabbable for on the go music.

[Blocks & Items] Ash blocks and lye

The idea is you burn a flammable block, and instead of disappearing it’s replaced with an ash block, which you can then put in a sulfur geyser to make lye.

Lye would be used as a damaging water that doesn’t hurt you as much as lava, but also allows you to boat on it, as well as not destroying items you throw in it, making it perfect for trap moats and defense. Brittle ice would break faster in it, packed ice would melt, ice would melt faster, and blue ice would convert it back to water. But it’d also clean copper and any other “oxidizables” they may or may not add later on

[Dimensions] New End Biome: Null Spines

Thumbnail
gallery
455 Upvotes

Hi all, after my endless Nether Biome posts, I thought I’d go ahead and finally start brewing ideas for the End dimension. Funny little backstory if you’re interested: this biome idea was originally made for a new Horror dimension I was brainstorming, that I thought was going to come from the ancient city portal. Unfortunately, my predictions for the theme of the 4th dimension weren’t even close when the Sift was finally announced, so now I have to either scrap my horror biome concepts, or move them to different dimensions. Thankfully for this one, I figured it would fit very well in the end.

The idea of the biome was heavily inspired by r4tmaid with his amazing Ink mod, I recommend you watch his video on the mod https://youtu.be/q1ljOPdzfMw?is=bSylyi7iEBpRgHu6

Biome Features (Image 1 & 2):

Walking through this biome, the player will be greeted by a brand new endstone variant that makes up this new biome: Stained Endstone, which is dark purple in colour. Stained Endstone can be used to craft new purple bricks. The Null Spines features large numbers of spike structures dotted across its landscape, along with patches surrounding the spikes. These both being made up of a brand new block: Null Ink blocks. Occasionally, sitting at the top of the largest generating spikes, is another new item that can be collected: Null Spikes. Within this biome, a brand new hostile mob exclusively spawns here, called Marklings.

Marklings (Image 3):

As mentioned before, these are a brand new hostile mob that exclusively spawn in this biome. What makes Marklings a formidable mob, is that they have the ability to become intangible. when Marklings move around, they will melt into the ground and move through the blocks themselves, their location is indicated by small black ripples that emit off the block. Marklings are unable to be touched or take damage when in this state. When a Markling begins its assault, it will finally rise up from the ground and will swipe at the player with its inky tendrils. During this, they will Marklings become tangible, and will be the right time to strike back. When killed, marklings will drop 2 brand new items, Null Ink Sacs, and Marked Heart. whilst Null Ink Sacs will always drop from a Markling in quantities of 1-2, the Marked Heart is a very rare drop, and the chances of obtaining one only increase when a Markling is killed by a Null Arrow (item explained in Image 7). Marklings are very weak to water and Null Arrows so be sure to carry plenty of these around!

Null Ink (Image 4 & 5):

Null Ink Sacs will contain a few unique uses directly, these include:

  • Right clicking to get invisible Signs and Item Frames.
  • Right click on light sources to remove their light.
  • Can be used to craft a special Book & Quill where its text is rendered completely invisible to the naked eye, unless under certain effects (Like how invisible Ink and UV light works in real life).

Null Ink Sacs even contain a very unique interaction with blocks. Right clicking on a block with a Null Ink Sac, will consume the item and will turn the block pitch black, allowing mobs and players to walk through the block. Once a mob or player has exited the block during this state, it will then return to normal, making it single use per sac.

Null Ink blocks are fairly standard solid blocks, but have a unique reaction with water. When Null Ink blocks are touched by any sort of water, they become semi solid, acting as a swimmabld block that cannot move. in order to revert a Null Ink block back to normal, simply place it next to blue ice.

Glyph Brush (Image 6):

Glyph Brush is a brand new special item that is crafted using a Marked Heart, Null Inc Sacs, amethyst and a brush. This new brush item has the unique magical ability to allow players to ‘draw’ on blocks and turn them into powerful magical offensive/defensive blocks, when a player or mob stands on these Glyphs, the magic will activate. Currently there will be 4 types of Glyphs that can be drawn, each with their own distinctive shapes, so that even if the player doesn’t draw it perfectly, it’s still pretty obvious what they were going for. The 4 types are:

  • Sink: turns the block intangible, and the target falls through.
  • Heal: Heals the target for 3 HP.
  • Spike: manifests an inky spike that shoots out and damages the target.
  • Shield: generates a 10 HP shield on the target.

Null Spikes (Image 7):

Null Spikes are a new dripstone variant of spike that generates on top of the large Null Ink spike structures. Can be placed either upwards or upside down, and when placed on top/under a null ink block, will slowly grow. Cauldrons can even be placed under Null Spikes to obtain renewable Null Ink blocks.

When placed in the crafting table with arrows, a brand new arrow type can be discovered, called Null arrows. These arrows have the special ability to travel through all blocks except for bedrock.

Inkamorphis (Image 8):

A brand new potion effect when brewing a Marked Heart, only 1 potion can be made per Heart, the potion effect will last between 2-3 minutes. This effect follows most of the features of the Ink mod I took inspiration from, like being able to submerge in ink and swim on land, leap out of the ink, no hunger, no armour and regenerating when submerged (these features were just too good to change). However, I have added 2 extra features to this effect so that it is not a straight carbon copy. When under the effect of Inkamorphis, players will be extremely weak to water, so weak they they’ll start taking damage by touching water or standing in the rain. Another feature is that when holding crouch for a few seconds, they can summon a Markling that will fight for them.
