Best budget microphones for use in a genealogy interview

I want to obtain a pair of microphones, the kind that attach to a collar of a shirt (probably magnet attachment). The purpose is interviews with people for genealogy purposes. No video, audio only. While some suggest using only the phone to record it, I want to have better sound quality than that (and sometimes older people talk quietly). It would be used with either a phone or tablet (both Samsung devices). I want audio files I can upload to a program that can then transcribe the recording. I would prefer not to go beyond $100 (which is why I would probably purchase this during a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale). I have heard recommendations for DIJ, RØDE, and Hollyland. However, I have also a lot of negative reviews about not being compatible with Android, poor quality control, and worse with pretty much every microphone I read about. Any guidance based on the circumstances I need it for is appreciated.

Other Boom mic Placement

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

how would you all place the boom mic in picture one when they sitting closely next to each other indoors do I require two mics ?

And for the second picture is one mic in between them enough ? I thought the voices would cross and the mics would pick up the voice from the other person too if I use two mics ?
I’m not having a sound mixer that can turn off the persons…

I would appreciate any answers.

Other I need some advice for an ASMR mic

Hello! I've only been using a good mic for a little while and it's been the 3dio with a Tascam Portacapture x8 audio interface and it's been good so far.

However I wanted to get a good single head mic for more options and as a regular use mic so I got a Rode LT1 buuuut it doesn't work, or at least I can't get it to work on mono audio. It always just has sound in one ear so I don't know if it's a mic issue or an interface problem I can't fix.

Either way I was thinking of returning it and getting a new mic but I still have no idea what is or isn't good. I ordered this one because I saw it would be but it just doesn't sound right in that one ear.

Any advice or suggestions would be immensely appreciated ^^

Hand held mic?

Post image

I have the AT4033a. I like it but I'd like to hold it when recording my vocals instead of having it on a stand (it feels more natural).

Is this possible with a condenser mic like this or ads there better options for holding a mic when recording?

I understand it might pick up noise etc.

I see many Tik Tok vids with people recording whilst holding their mic but I'm not sure how to achieve this whilst maintaining the quality.

Playing with my microphone feels like one corner of a Rubiks cube is out of place and I have to rearrange everything just to fix it

I've got the Shure MV7+, Motiv, and OBS. I have noise suppression on in OBS and in Motiv, it is 30% dark and 36+ dB. I still don't like the way my mic sounds. I will like it before uploading to YouTube but then YT will quiet the video down on my phone so I am not sure how to really tell how I sound until after I upload privately and see. How should I go about playing around with this so I don't get burned out on it?

Studio Mics Debating what mic to get for home studio

Ive been planning out my home studio setup and what mic to get. I’m planning on using a Motu M2 and sound proofing my room a little bit. I’m looking to mainly record vocals for songs, I mostly do hip hop vocals but I like to branch out to other genres. I’m debating between a few different microphones and price tiers. Also wondering if I have the best items at my price points.

Both selling for $159 USD right now are the AT2035 and the AKG P420, at $149 is the RODE NT1 signature and it comes with a pop filter & XLR cable.

The Lewitt 440 pure is sitting at $249 right now making it a pretty decent option from what I can tell.

For $200 more than the cheaper mics there is the LA 220 V2 at $359.

And this last option is a bit out of my ideal budget but at $500 there is the DA 87SE which is supposed to be a really solid mic at the price point.

I’m wondering what’s the best option for my set up, and whether or not it’s worth it spending a little more on a more expensive microphone if the sound quality is better.

Ive only ever recorded on a AKG P120 which isn’t bad but I’ve found that most of the improvement I can make in sound quality when making songs comes from post recording processing & mixing/mastering.

Also if it matters I use Logic Pro X on a 2013 IMac planning on getting jbl 305p mk2 monitors and ATH-M30x headphones or beyerdynamic DT 270 PRO.

Gaming / Streaming Mics Micrófono USB o XLR?

Estoy buscando comprarme un micrófono, pero la verdad es que no sé si elegir uno USB o XLR para jugar y hablar con mis amigos por Discord. He visto varios micrófonos, pero todavía no tengo ninguno claro. Mi presupuesto ronda los 120 dólares.

¿Sería muy complicado tener un micrófono XLR y configurarlo únicamente para jugar, o sería mejor comprar uno USB? ¿Cuál de los dos me podría servir mejor a largo plazo?

Good microphone to replace my Blue Yeti Snowball?

I've been using this Blue Yeti Snowball for 6 years now, & it's served me well. But it recently stopped working for some reason. I mainly use this microphone for video calls (including therapist & psychiatrist appts), and it's been a pain working around it. I'm not looking for anything high end really, but I don't want something that's shitty either, just mid-to-lower range for everyday use. Preferably smth that can still pick up my voice from a couple of feet away, & that's not too far above $60.

(Also yes, I can probably replace my Snowball with another Snowball, but I don't know if there's a better option for the price now lol)

XLR setup is way quieter than USB? (Maono PD300X + Boya AM4)

I recently switched my Maono PD300X from a direct USB connection to an XLR connection using a Boya AM4 audio interface, hoping for an upgrade in sound quality.

The problem is that via XLR, the mic is incredibly quiet. I have to push the gain on the Boya AM4 all the way to 100% just to get a usable recording level. To make matters worse, the last 10% of the gain knob is extremely sensitive and causes massive volume spikes, making it impossible to fine-tune.

When I used it via USB, the volume was loud and production-ready right out of the box. How can I get professional, stable audio levels with this new XLR setup?

Thanks!

Gaming / Streaming Mics Which mic to choose?

I'm not from the US, this is just the currency transition of how much they cost..

  1. Audio Technica ATR2500 (27 USD)

  2. AKG ARA (36 USD) (Sealed/Brand new)

  3. Razer Seiren V3 Mini (Below 24 USD)

I just want a good noise cancellation because my house is a bit small, so, if my mom talks too loud, prob the entire discord call can hear..

Right now, Razer is the least on my mind because it uses a micro USB port, which is a bit obsolete cable, idk if there's even any in my house..

Gaming / Streaming Mics Is Rode or DJI Microphones Better? (Specifically the mini ones that Youtubers use)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

I want to record myself speaking and want the highest possible quality from one of those like mini square shaped microphones that both Rode and DJI sell.

I want to clip it to my shirt or speak in it while holding.

I did research, and apparently the Rode version of this is better. Like just straight up better quality in every way.

But, idk which one to get now.

Or what to even buy to hook it up to my windows laptop and/or phone (depends on what I'm filming)

Do you need a separate thing to attach it to a phone? And a pc??

Help.

Which Rode is the one I should get?
