Studying/Testing New UG sample Papers with English A and B

I just saw the new sample papers released and there are two English papers A and B where only one paper used to be there.
Should we write two papers for the written exam, or have they spilt it for humanities and natural science students?

Hey guys so im 17 years old and I am from India and I'm planning to give the MEXT exam (UG) in 2027 hoping to pursue an engineering degree, What I really want to know is how I should prepare and what are the actual chances of selection. I've heard that there are very few seats (If my information is correct it's 12 seats for India). I would be grateful and appreciate any and every advice you all have to give me 💖

Application Question about e-mails and follow ups.

Hey guys! I have a quick question about the MEXT university route. (sidenote: I am from Croatia, if that helps).

I have been in contact with a professor from the institute of science Tokyo, and he explicitly said he would mentore me and sign the letter of acceptance, and that all I needed to do was send the information he required. I sent him the info about a month ago, which he hasn't replied to, and then a follow up 2 weeks ago, which he still hasn't replied to. Last night I sent him a second follow up, which I am waiting a response for. (timeline for emails: info sent 23rd sept. First follow up 8th oct. Second follow up 20th oct)

Now my question is, what do I do in this situation? I don't want to keep sending him e-mails, and the deadline for the letter submission is in less then a month. Do I contact the administration or what, what do you guys suggest?

General Questions Mext Undergraduate Brazil - GPA

I have some questions about GPA. I know the cutoff is not disclosed, but I wanted to know if I have any chances.

My highschool GPA was 2,77/3,00 or but my GPA in uni is horrible. It was my first semester, I'm currently in the second semester and would be in my third semester when application usually opens, but would not have finished it to know my final grades.

Do university grades matter a lot when I'll be applying for undergrad?

Application General level of Japanese for a Natural Sciences B Major?

Hi. I'm currently studying for the 2028 Mext exams in Parguay, if I

hopefully pass the first screening.

The exams start around June, but, while I was looking for info about others applying for Natural Science B majors I have come around frequently with posts saying you minimum require N3, which is very scary to me because I'm barely learning Japanese now xD

My first option is veterinary, second Agricultural chemistry and third

Food science. I think my English can improve but it's still good, I plan to take a TOEFL test to compensate for my lack of Japanese language skills.

Can a person that is a N5-N4 can realistically make it to get the scholarship in those majors or is it too difficult? Any tips or advice are welcome!

General Questions MEXT Scholarship for 2028 - honest advice from current students and graduates in Japan

Hi everyone! I'm from Kazakhstan and currently doing my bachelor's in Cybersecurity. I'm thinking about applying for a master's in Japan through MEXT in 2028, but I still have a lot of doubts and would like to hear from people who actually studied there.

First, how hard are the MEXT exams really? How much time did you spend preparing for them? And if you're applying for a master's, do you need to find a professor before applying? I've heard that finding a supervisor can be pretty difficult.

Also, does the scholarship actually cover enough to live on, or do you still need your own money? And is there any obligation to return to your home country after graduation? I'd prefer to stay abroad and find a job if possible.

I'm also wondering what student life in Japan is like. Is the workload really that bad, especially at well-known universities? Are professors supportive, or does it depend a lot on your supervisor? Is it easy to make friends and fit in, or can it get lonely as an international student?

One thing I've been wondering about is healthcare. I've read some stories online saying that hospitals don't take you seriously unless it's an emergency, or that getting proper treatment can be difficult. Is this actually true, or are people exaggerating? What is healthcare like for international students?

I'm a bit worried about natural disasters too, especially earthquakes and typhoons. Do they affect daily life a lot, or is it something you get used to?

Other things that matter to me are feeling safe, affordable food that isn't too spicy, decent heating in winter, and having some free time instead of constantly studying. I'd also like to know how realistic it is to find internships and a job in IT or cybersecurity after graduation. Can you find work in Japan without speaking Japanese fluently, or is Japanese basically a must?

If you studied in Japan on MEXT, would you do it again? I'm not looking for a perfect picture of Japan, just honest opinions about the good and bad sides. Thanks!

General Questions About MEXT: how much do I need to know before going?

I’m thinking about a couple of subjects but there’s one thing I’m not sure about. How much do I need to know about the subject i’m choosing?
Music (F1) is really calling for me, and I have previous experience, i’m not completely ignorant about it, but it’s been a while and I don’t remember a lot BUT am really interested and thinking about choosing it and willing to jump head first into it.

Does anyone here know about how is it?
Do I need to have a big previous experience with music? Or is it really beginner friendly as long as I study and work hard for it?

Thanks!! <3

Application Applying to School of Sciences UTokyo Masters Programme from UK (Irish National)

I am studying Physics in England and I want to do research in experimental particle physics. I've been trying to navigate the application requirements but I have so many questions:

  1. Do you need to know japanese (any level), I don't know how it at all apart from a few words but I am willing to learn. Is it required as an admissions test? I saw there is one for Physics and English but I'm not sure how to check if the degree will be taught in Japanese.
  2. Should I contact a supervisor first, get approval, fill in normal masters application then the scholarship application? In which order do I do this?
  3. I'm in my third year, currently sitting on a 2:1. Am i being too ambitious?
  4. If I completed my secondary education in English, how do I exempt myself from needing a TOEFL score.
  5. I haven't done my thesis yet but in the application form it asks for a summary of it.
  6. It says the application period is 15-30th of october. If I need a physical letter of recommendation from a Dean or above, how do I make siure it is received on time?

I'm sorry in advance if these questions are stupid. Thank you for your help

Application Should I apply before I start my final year?

Hello everyone,
I am planning to apply for the MEXT masters scholarship in May 2027. I will be graduating in June so I plan to enroll in the October/September term. I will be writing my thesis in my final year, which is after the application deadline (September 2027-June 2028). Since thesis paper is an important document (although not mandatory if not written yet as stated in the application guideline) to be submitted I am worried that not submitting it might affect my application. I have decent projects, very good gpa and research experience.
How much impact does a thesis paper have in getting the scholarship? And should I apply or wait one more year?
Thank you in advance!!!

Application MEXT University Recommendation route been discontinued? What are my options now?

Hi everyone!

I just saw a post saying the MEXT University Recommendation track has been discontinued. Is this true?

Unfortunately, I wasn't accepted through the Embassy Recommendation track this year, so I was planning to try the University Recommendation route instead. Now it sounds like that's no longer an option.

My dream is to do a master's degree at a Japanese university (I already have a bachelor's degree). What options do I have at this point? Are there other scholarships or paths I should look into?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you so much!

General Questions Some questions regarding MEXT Specialized Training College

Hi guys, I'm 17 Y/O and I'll be completing my 12th in 2027 and I'd like to attempt MEXT Specialized Training College especially since I've main interest in Cooking and other interests such as Script Writing and Storytelling so probably I'll be a Chef or Patissier. These are my main interests and some slight interests or you could say I can imagine a scene from my story so if you'd like to read something that I wrote lmk or DM.

Back to the main point since I'm studying Maths and English so I've some questions,

  1. How to study Japanese from scratch?

  2. How much study would require to clear the MEXT STC Japanese exam?

These are my Main questions and if I cleared the written examination, I'm confident about the interview stuff cause I just don't like cooking and eating all that stuff, I wanted to perfect it even if I have to work like crazy, I observe every second on what's happening in that dish, why is that happening or what could increase the flavour more without just making it spicy and I'd love to teach others after I completed my studying. Initially I just saw how everyone make some food and like it just tastes so good but when you ask them they says idk and I wanted to know exactly that part it might be made from love or years of practice but there has to be some explanation and I'm choosing Japan for that cause something like cooking which takes dedication and mastery can be achieved in Japan cause in my country, they says don't try too much or it's useless but there I could learn everything that I wants and it would also keep me disciplined

(Sorry for bad English since it's not my first language and I wrote all this cause that's one of the strongest reason I wanted to come to Japan to learn cooking with disciplined and also cleanliness which I like, I hope you'd answer my questions and Thanks guys)

General Questions What if there aren’t enough subjects on the school certificate?

Hello everyone!

I'm from Russia and I'm planning to participate in the mext undergraduate selection for 2028 for a technical major, but I've run into some difficulties. I completed the 11th grade in a humanities class, and because of that, my certificate doesn't include physics, chemistry, or computer science (although it does include astronomy); essentially, I only studied these subjects up to the 10th grade. Could this hinder my participation? Has anyone else encountered something similar? For context: I graduated from school 2 years ago, and this year I completed a two-year law college.

I would be grateful for any information.
