Discussion The MCU Hasn't Done Sam Wilson Justice, and I'm Just Now Realizing It

Post image
0 Upvotes

After reading some issues of Captain America: Symbol of Truth, I genuinely feel like the MCU hasn’t done Sam Wilson’s Captain America justice. I LOVE Sam Wilson as Captain America in the comics. I love his personality, his motivations, his relationships, and especially his mission. He’s not just carrying the shield and fighting bad guys. He genuinely wants to make America a better, more peaceful place for its people. He’s actively trying to confront violence and create something better for the country.
That’s the kind of Captain America I want to see on screen.
And then the awesome relationship with Misty Knight!
This is my first real introduction to her character, and I absolutely love her. I love her relationship with Sam Wilson, their chemistry, and learning more about her background, including the story of how Tony Stark gave her the bionic arm. These are the kinds of characters, relationships, and stories I want to see explored in the MCU.

And that’s where my frustration with the films comes in.
Sam Wilson is only just beginning to establish himself as Captain America in the MCU. He received the shield, had one solo movie, and now we’re already heading into Avengers: Doomsday. When does he actually get the opportunity to fully develop as Captain America?
When do we get to see his personal mission, his relationships, his struggles, and his vision for what America could become? I’m not saying Marvel is doing this as a money grab or anything like that. But I do think that if you’re going to introduce a character as important as Captain America, you have to give his story room to breathe.

And after reading Symbol of Truth, I feel like there’s so much more to Sam Wilson than what we’ve been shown on screen. I want to see his relationship with Misty Knight. I want to see him navigating the political conflicts that come with being Captain America. I want to see him standing up for what he believes in, even when that puts him at odds with governments and other powerful figures.
I want to see the Sam Wilson I’ve been reading about.
And that’s probably one of my biggest takeaways from reading Marvel Comics so far. The comics are showing me just how much potential these characters have, and it’s making me wish the MCU would take more time to explore them. Because these characters deserve stories that allow us to really get to know them, not just see them show up for the next big crossover event.

Question Could Hex Vision still exist somewhere?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Random theory, but hear me out.

Wanda created Billy and Tommy in the Hex, and when it collapsed, their souls survived and eventually inhabited other people’s bodies. So why couldn’t the same thing have happened to Hex Vision?

I know Vision is different because he’s a synthezoid, but Hex Vision was also created through Wanda’s magic. He had his own personality, emotions and relationship with Wanda, so what actually happened to his consciousness when the Hex disappeared?

White Vision has the original Vision’s memories, but does that actually make him the same person? He doesn’t necessarily have the same emotional connection to Wanda that Hex Vision had.

What if Hex Vision’s consciousness somehow survived and could eventually inhabit White Vision’s body? Almost like bringing together the physical body of the original Vision with the version of Vision Wanda created and fell in love with.

Obviously, we don’t know if Hex Vision even had a separate soul, but if Billy and Tommy’s souls could survive after the Hex disappeared, I don’t think it’s completely out of the question.

Could White Vision eventually become the actual Vision Wanda lost, or did Hex Vision cease to exist completely when the Hex collapsed?

Also, is it possible that the story lends itself to Billy (if he appears) somehow being instrumental to Vision becoming whole somehow?

For what was intended to be the next big bad of the MCU, he only showed up in two projects in the entire Multiverse Saga. The project that he did well in (Loki) gave him a satisfactory premise and ending. As for Ant-Man 3; there is literally no way audiences were responding well to these goofy ass costumes and the overall weak setup outside of Loki.

Discussion Who will show up in Doomsday??

I put literally everyone.

This tier list is based on the storyline of the movie, the ending of other recent projects, some rumours and my own opinion.

Some characters like Wasp are defined by the actor's situation.

What would you change?

Spoilers! Please explain VisionQuest

I thought Vision was essentially JARVIS fused with the Mind Stone, so how come they’re portrayed as completely different characters in VisionQuest? Or, at the very least, why aren’t these two characters played by the same actor? On top of that, why aren’t FRIDAY and E.D.I.T.H. played by their original voice actors?

Discussion Road to Avengers Doomsday: Black Panther Wakanda Forever

This is one of those films that was caught in a precarious dilemma. The death of Chadwick Boseman really changed things up in the MCU. What do you do in the aftermath of the death of an iconic figure in a franchise?  This film manages to weather that storm, although it does so a bit uneven at times.

The incorporation of grief and loss into the story of the film makes the film feel rather personal at times and obviously it resonates strongly. But it is also a bit uneven in its exploration of these themes. Very stop and go. Initially I was a bit iffy on the whole Talokan reimagining of Namor. But visually it works, though I do prefer that the Atlantis/Greek aesthetics were preserved as the themes could address mutants and other social/civil rights issues. Overall, I do prefer Namor as a villain over Killmonger. He was far more compelling. Angela Bassett really shines as Queen Ramonda. But that goes without saying because it’s Angela Bassett. Shuri has a clear character arc, albeit sloppy. I like that it echoes and resonates with Namor. I like the depiction of Wakanda actually being vulnerable and not some impregnable unstoppable superpower. The action was pretty good with the underwater sequences or any scenes involving the Talokans being really effective.

The movie is way too long. There’s no reason it should be almost 3 hours. Pacing fluctuates from fast to incredibly slow. The film is still distinct enough not to fall under my “set-up” movie category. But there’s still a lot of setup going on in this film. Riri Williams feels underwritten. She’s just there to be a part of the plot and almost feels like an accessory. Unnecessary CIA subplot that goes nowhere. There’s an unnecessary Killmonger cameo. Shuri and elements of her character arc are messy. Her decision to not kill Namor is very abrupt and sort of unearned as the whole film is leading toward vengeance and she changes her mind at the moment where the movie needs her to. Her becoming Black Panther happens very late in the film, she really isn’t Black Panther for a while. The synthetic heart shaped herb is also incredibly convenient and contrived. The CGI is a bit uneven at times. The final battle is frantic and weak from a story perspective. Side characters are underutilized and their stories raise more questions than answers (Ross, M’Baku, Okoye, Nakia). And lastly Ramonda’s death is very predictable. Writers need to understand that there are very effective ways of giving a character a complete journey and arc without killing them off.

Far from perfect. But also, for me, better than the first Black Panther.

Rating: 3.5/5

Discussion Why didn’t Thanos or any other advanced civilization in the MCU invent time travel before Tony?

Post image
0 Upvotes

MCU has plenty of highly advanced civilizations with technology far beyond what humans had. So how did none of them figure out time travel before Stark and the Avengers did?

Was time travel simply not something they had explored, or was there something unique about humans or earth that made it possible?

Thanos wiped half of all living beings from all across the universe, why no kne thought about the same ida in other advanced civilisations?

What do you guys think?

Discussion Before the reveal in BND, what did you think V-Max was? Spoiler

I thought it was going to be a weapon and/or a mutant. I definitely thought the Department of Damage Control was hiding the truth about what V-Max was. I'm curious if anyone was disappointed when they found out. Personally, I thought it was an interesting touch to include it the way they did.

Question Would you incorporate Black Cat into Spider-Man: Brand New Day? if so, how?

Post image
0 Upvotes

If you could include Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in BND without changing too much of the original plot, how would you go about it?
Don't get me wrong, I loved the film and how they went about it, but I like to imagine. Would you have her take Sadie's place or have both of them in the movie? I know, before Sadie's casting, some people really wanted Black Cat in this movie so I'm curious what kind of storyline you guys would want to explore with Black Cat while still keeping the same tone and undertones that were established for this movie.
Personally, I think Black Cat could fit really well with the more street-level direction of the film, but I can't really think of how she could be introduced in a way that feels natural to the story. I also think she could be a really interesting character to introduce now and then explore more in potential sequels, especially if BND ends up being the start of a new trilogy.
What would you guys do?

Discussion Hot Take: Age of Ultron is a 1/2 star better than Endgame

I think that Endgame has some very low lows, while AOU doesn’t have that much wrong with it. Lousy dialogue that is constantly not funny in Endgame? Look at the phenomenal quotes from the majority of the cast in AOU. Both villains are great in both, so they basically cancel out. Endgame has some major plot holes (how did Nebula get the ship through the Time Machine?) while AOU is fine in that regard. I will say that AOU isnt a perfect movie. Nat + Bruce is super unnatural and weird, and killing off Quicksilver and Ultron was unnecessary. However, Endgame was just horribly cheesy and I could barely take it seriously, while AOU was constantly entertaining and satisfying. I can admit Endgame has some peak scenes (Nat’s death, Portal scene), but it doesn‘t make up for it all.

What do you guys think? I know this is a hot take, so I wanna see why you guys disagree. Let me know!

Discussion (More in Comments) Justice For Bystanders

Post image

Should investigations be done in order to find and arrest the culprit who is responsible for the deaths of all these innocent drivers?

Everyone were just minding their business, when boom, an armored vehicle came out of nowhere and hits them with so much impact, that each of those cars were sent flipping at least 10 feet into the air, their windows and chassis shattering. The cop car even gets flipped toward a child but thank goodness, Spider-Man saved the child.

Despite that, we're talking about 4 deaths here, at a minimum. The drivers. That's before we factor in any passengers or in the case of the cop car, any detainees.

Whoever was responsible for this travesty, needs to be brought to trial and if found guilty, be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Discussion Orchis as an organisation should be the main villains for the Mutant Saga

Post image
2 Upvotes

So as we're getting closer to the end of the Multiverse Saga, there has been a lot of speculation as to what comes next. It is almost universally assumed that the next saga will be the Mutant Saga, with the X-Men taking centre stage. Naturally, everyone wonders what the saga-spanning threat is. Originally we had Thanos gradually taking control of the Infinity Stones and now we have the degradation of the multiverse leading to Doctor Doom's intervention. So what next?

Some have just put names forward. Magneto, Mr Sinister, Apocalypse. Magneto for me is not the kind of villain to fill this role, he is more of a Loki, mostly a villain but sometimes an ally. Mr Sinister I'll come back to, because I do think he'll be involved. Apocalypse for me would be the safe and lazy choice. Yes he's a great villain and could absolutely fill this role, but I feel like it would be too similar to Thanos. Also, X-Men 97 has already heavily focused onto the character and it would be a little strange to tread the same ground.

So, Orchis. They're a bunch of mutant hating extremists from various organisations like AIM, Hydra, Trask, etc that came together to focus on their shared goal of destroying mutants forever. They use various means for this, but the main one is AI/machines. Taking the AI in the Sentinels and upgrading it to the point it becomes self aware, culminating with Nimrod, the big guy in the picture. With Nimrod, if you're not familiar, think Ultron but with way more anger issues and a special hatred for mutants in particular. In the comics this is based on (House/Powers of X) due to spoilery reasons the X-Men are absolutely terrified of the day Orchis will create Nimrod. It's like a ticking time bomb they know is coming. This to me could be part of that saga-spanning dread. Remember the "fine, I'll do it myself" post-credit scene with Thanos? Imagine something like that, but instead it's a scene of Nimrod in assembly and ending with his eyes turning on menacingly. After some previous set up as to why this is a big deal of course.

I also think Orchis work well because arguably they've already had their origin story started. A certain technology used by a certain organisation in the new Spider-Man film is potentially right up their alley. The organisation of Orchis coming together as they gradually recruit villains would make for a great narrative connection for the early days of the saga too. Mr Sinister would be an obvious choice for the first to be recruited (I would just have him take the place of Doctor Stasis, as it would be simpler for the movies).

Some people may be against jumping into the Krakoa Era so soon though, and while personally I'd be happy for them to jump right into it, I do get why some wouldn't want this. However, you wouldn't have to do that anyway. Orchis still make sense as the villains outside of the context of Krakoa. Personally, I'd love to see the Krakoa Era adapted for the saga but it doesn't have to be. We've seen comic storylines get mixed and moved around to better suit the movies before.

I have more thoughts, but this is probably long enough. That's my pitch. Thoughts?

Discussion Visionquest: 2 episodes in and couldn’t imagine the amount of emotions I was made to feel

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

WandaVision and Agatha All Along were already peak Marvel, so I had pretty high expectations for VisionQuest.

I didn’t watch a single trailer or teaser, though. I went in completely blind. And MANNNN WAS I THRILLED.

I didn’t expect a show about a literal machine to make me feel sooo soo much emotions but I think that’s exactly the point.

The way he builds walls inside his own mind, trying to keep the past at a distance, is such a painfully human response to grief. And that too while trying to navigate this new life he’s been given (quite literally).

And ULTRON? I genuinely did not see that coming. (so happy I didn’t watch any trailers)

What do you will happen next? I hope he figures out his emotions.

Question VisionQuest - how did the AIs get in there? Spoiler

For Ultron, we learn Vision basically uploaded him when he destroyed the last body. So Ultron was inside Vision all of that time, until his death by Thanos.

But how is he there now??

When Wanda resurrected/created Hex-Vision, did that also including that Ultron that was inside him? Which was then “transferred” when Hex-Vision transferred/restored all those memories to White Vision in the library scene? Or was Ultron somehow dormant in the original hardware, and restoring the memories just activated him again?

As for the other AI’s… were they just collected “after” White Vision left Westview? I feel that has to be the case at least with Friday and Edith. But it feels like at least Ultron, or maybe Jarvis, has to have been with him at least since leaving Westview?

And a somewhat-related question… does Vision have all the firsthand memories of Hex-Vision? Or just the pre-death memories plus SWORD’s recordings of the broadcast? Either way, there’s no way he knows what happened in Hex-Vision’s final moments after White Vision left the Hex… right?

Theory Doomsday Theory

I think by joining ‘Doom’s team’ as the incursion goes on, you first must be ‘adopted’ into his ‘family’. A member (or Doom) approaches person and offers them guaranteed survival, but also a reflection on their lived experience and how they can atone for it. They (the person) receives a vision of their actions and how it impacted not on themselves but their planet and other individuals present and future lives.
From the climate changing, people dying or not being born ends up causing a catastrophic event or delays certain progress towards something that benefits all than one person.

That is the goal of Doom. To put the needs of the people over one, by any means necessary. In the new world, no longer will one worry about if someone’s action harms another. You will not worry about rich, poor. You will not worry about harm, safety. Shelter, homeless. Doom provides all. Upon joining, Doom shall be not only Doom but ‘Father’. Doom is your savior, your monarch, but also your protector, your servant. But before all is said and done?

The person must help Doom and his people destroy the other worlds as they pose a threat to his vision. The Avengers have a choice laid before them: Live the life of the said idea: ‘you wished to bring forth a group of remarkable people, and when people needed them they would fight the battles that they never could.’. One last battle with that idea. But, also no need for that idea to exist. How would some of the Avengers live their life if they did not need or want to be an Avenger or even a hero?

Those who would dare go against Doom will either face death or serve him and his people for all eternity.
