Booked with points and only staying 1 night. Upgraded with Platinum status. My guess is because there’s no convention happening right now. Wasn’t expecting anything since almost everybody says they never get upgraded in the US.

As a side note: Thank you to the kind and friendly woman who upgraded us when we arrived at 3:45pm today to make our weekend roadtrip amazing.

Destination Moxy Williamsburg

Has anyone partied at the Moxy Williamsburg rooftop and noticed the bartenders tip themselves before having you pay??? The credit card machine doesn’t show an itemized amount. I had to email myself the receipt because I was confused on why the drink total was so much. I found out find they gave themselves a 20% & 25% tip. Is this legal?

Bonvoy Rewards Delta Toronto Airport Breakfast

• Upvotes

I've heard that there is no lounge at this hotel, and that Elite members instead get breakfast from the Delta Pantry (not in the restaurant). I'm curious if anyone has feedback on this Pantry, since I've heard that Delta Pantries are usually snacks and not full breakfast items. Thoughts?

Employment Anyone interviewed for the Marriott HQ Fellowship Program? (Software Engineering Internship)

Hey, I recently got selected to interview for Marriott’s HQ Fellowship Program for the Digital Engineering – On-Site Digital team.
The email says it’s a 45-minute virtual STAR interview with the hiring team, with possible technical questions before or after.
Has anyone gone through this interview process, especially for a software engineering or digital engineering role?
Just trying to figure out what to expect. How technical was the interview? What kind of STAR questions did they ask? Was it mostly behavioral, or should I also prepare for coding questions?
Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve interviewed for the program before. Thanks!

Employment Accounting jobs

Hi everyone,
I just graduated with a Master of Accounting and applied for an accounting role on the Marriott careers page.
I have years of hotel operations/customer service experience but this would be my first formal accounting role.
How difficult would it be for me to get a job through the portal without an internal referral?
Thanks!

Bonvoy Rewards Marriott said my case was closed. When I challenged that decision, they suddenly offered 20,000 more points. Why?

• Upvotes

I made a mistake by linking my Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account while I was Marriott Gold rather than Platinum. I accept that.

But what happened next is why I am posting here.

On May 8, Marriott confirmed in writing that I could relink my accounts after completing a Platinum Challenge. I followed that advice, earned Platinum, relinked my accounts, and flew four Singapore Airlines flights.

I received KrisFlyer Silver, but not Gold. SQ explained that the original linking date still controlled eligibility. Relinking did not trigger a new assessment.

Had Marriott told me that in May, I would have stopped pursuing SQ Gold. I might still have taken those flights, but I would have enjoyed the trip without spending months chasing an outcome that Marriott's instructions could not deliver.

Then Marriott made the situation worse.

Marriott acknowledged its incorrect guidance and offered 15,000 Bonvoy points. It told me it could not override SQ's decision and that I needed to deal directly with the airline.

So I did. After repeated discussions, SQ escalated the matter again on September 3.

On September 23, SQ told me that Marriott still considered the case resolved despite the airline's inquiries, and that SQ could no longer continue seeking clarification from Marriott.

SQ also relayed an inaccurate account of Marriott's corrective action: that Marriott had upgraded me to Platinum. In reality, I earned Platinum myself through the challenge. I corrected that misinformation with SQ.

I then repeatedly challenged Marriott's handling of the case, including its decision to close the matter while SQ was still seeking clarification.

Marriott's case specialist stated that no further points would be offered. Yet after I challenged the implications of that decision and sought further review, Marriott offered another 20,000 points on October 23.

The issue is not whether 35,000 points is enough.

Why was Marriott willing to reverse its final compensation position, but unwilling to revisit the case closure that had left the SQ inquiry unresolved?

I have spent nearly six months dealing with the consequences of Marriott's acknowledged incorrect guidance and subsequent case handling. The lost time, effort, and opportunity cannot simply be reduced to a points negotiation.

I have also contacted an independent consumer advocacy organization.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? More importantly, how can a customer obtain an independent corporate review when Marriott's internal resolution process continues to treat the matter as closed?

I am seeking accountability, an explanation of the decision-making, and a meaningful effort to reopen discussions with SQ—not merely more points.

Review 20% “In-Room Dining” Charge on a Pickup Order

Thumbnail gallery
436 Upvotes

Anyone ever run into this?

I placed a mobile order through the Marriott app for pickup to use my $100 credit. The app disclosed taxes on the final step but made no mention of service charges or gratuity.

When I picked up the order, the receipt included a 20% “Room Service” charge, plus a separate line for gratuity. The food was packaged to-go with plastic flatware, and the receipt explicitly listed the order location as “Pickup.”

The restaurant employee couldn’t remove the charge due to not having the authority. They were ultimately able to remove at check out after some back and forth.

I’m not opposed to reasonable service charges for actual room service, but applying a 20% charge to a simple pickup order without disclosing it during checkout seems questionable and excessive.

Screenshots show the ordering process and how there’s no mention of any additional charges, just taxes. I didn’t screenshot my order as I didn’t expect charges on pickup. Screenshots are from the following day when only breakfast items were available.

Misc Housekeeping left my door open

Staying at the Sheraton BVL for work and got back last night to my door being open. I wouldn’t have been so freaked out, but it’s an external access room and really anybody could have come in from outside the hotel. I called the front desk and spoke to the manager this morning and they were apologetic but I am still so freaked out after having to make sure nothing was missing when I got in last night

Employment Is it just me or is the new associate rate system just…worse!

Ive been exploring alot and taking advantage of the discount which was great. But recently since they changed the discount system for associate it has been worse and worse. Just now I noticed that the discount for associates booking 6 months in advance for a shoulder season is ACTUALLY WORSE than b.com price.

This is so ridiculous that Im actually considering moving to Accor cuz their discount system actually works well instead of doing how marriott is attempting to squeeze out of associates what little they pay them.

Review St Regis Atlanta

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

We had the chance to stay at Atlanta's "best address" back in February just after Valentine's weekend. This was far from the best St Regis, but we still managed to have a good time; here's a little bit about how our stay went.

Since we went in winter, the landscaping in front of the property and the enclosed pool area were obviously not their best, but we expected that coming in. We actually came to the property the night before we got our room, since the on-site Michelin restaurant Atlas was not open the night that we were checking in & we really wanted to try it out during our first impression of the property. The restaurant is still one of my favorite one-star Michelin establishments, and I've been to 40 stars so far this year, and my wife especially loved it (she is more skeptical of fine dining and Michelin in general, but absolutely adored this spot). It is definitely worth your while getting a reservation here while you stay at the property, or even if you aren't staying there. We stayed at Hotel Colee that evening and I'm not going to get into that ordeal...

When we actually came to check in at the St Regis, we were disappointed to find that they are one of those luxury properties that keeps suites available for upgrades but only at an up-charge... this was despite our Titanium status at the time. We didn't bother wasting an NUA on this property, so I don't remember if an NUA could get a suite, but regardless, we got a small upgrade to a larger regular room, which was nice. As far as Regis rooms go, it wasn't the greatest that we'd ever gotten, but certainly nothing was wrong with it.

We mainly enjoyed the common areas with the antebellum furniture and did relax outside for sometime in the afternoons. One benefit of the property is that it connects to a variety of restaurants and shops via the Residences section, so we were able to try a bunch of bakery treats over time at the nearby cafe. The other perk we enjoyed was their complimentary house car that could take you to other nearby eateries in town, though this led to a somewhat odd experience for us. The first night, when we tried this, the house car dropped us off at a tapas restaurant for light snacks and drinks, but when it came time to pick us up, the hotel informed us that the car service had closed at 8pm for the evening. This made no sense since they took us to the tapas restaurant AFTER 8pm, and certainly, no one mentioned that they were no longer operating after that or that they wouldn't come pick us up. The posted hours of the house car on the property's banner and online were until 10pm. So that was a little strange, leading us to make our own way back to the hotel.

Breakfast was decent at the property; however, the elite credit seems a lot more generous than it actually is. With basic black coffee or tea costing $12 each on their menu, the combined $80ish credit doesn't go as far as one might think. For comparison, similar Regis breakfast credits in NYC and Longboat Key cover breakfast a lot more comfortably, if not entirely.

The last specific memory I have of the property is the comical St Regis bar experience I had. After trying their version of the Bloody Mary, which was good albeit quite hot, I ordered their more upscale version of an Old Fashioned. When the bartender brought out a box for me to choose my own woodchips and arranged the setup to smoke the cocktail, he accidentally blew the torch at the chips without properly igniting it, blowing all of the wood dust into my torso and face 😑 stuff happens, but it was odd when instead or apologizing or helping to clean up, he sheepishly just lit the remaining chips and scurried away.

Overall, while we enjoyed the short stay, we felt the service could have been better & that the property is certainly one of the weaker St Regis examples out there, even compared with other North American properties only. I hope they are able to elevate their game in the future and live up to the brand, especially now that the classic last-place example of Houston is no longer in the mix.

Cheers!

Review First NYC visit: Le Méridien Fifth Avenue vs Fairfield Fifth Avenue vs TownePlace Suites Times Square?

Hi everyone! My partner and I are visiting NYC for the first time from December 25 to January 2. We’ve shortlisted:

  • Le Méridien New York, Fifth Avenue
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue
  • TownePlace Suites New York Manhattan/Times Square

Which would you recommend for the best overall stay? We’d like an area that feels comfortable walking back to at night, with nearby subway access.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s stayed at these. Thanks in advance.

Employment Voyager Program

People on LinkedIn are already posting their acceptance to the voyager program. Has anyone gotten accepted or are still waiting to receive a decision?

I recently did my interview with one of the property managers of my choosing and I felt like I did okay. This was yesterday so of course I’m not going to expect any quick decision, however, does that mean perchance I failed the interview?

If you got accepted, how long did it take throughout the whole interview process from start to finish? My friend got accepted and she said hers took about a week. Mine so far starting from interviewing with the recruiter to the property manager was also a week. However, I have yet to receive a decision. Thanks!!!

Employment VEA Newport Beach Marriott hiring process/wait time

Hello everyone!

I just want to get some clarifications and answers on how long and how the process works.

I applied to this specific hotel mentioned above for the Room service operator role on 9/8/2026. I got an email for an interview about 3 weeks later and had my interview on October 5th 2026 about 2-3 weeks ago. I went through 2 interviews the same day and was offered the position after the 2nd interview. I filled up the background check paperwork or whatnot and was told by the hiring manager that he would submit it to HR. He also said HR would contact me back soon for the next steps.

I still haven’t received an email or phone back and it has been 18 days. I also checked the Marriott career website and noticed that it says my application status is inactive and the job listing is no longer available. I’ve also contacted them about a week ago and they said if there’s anything wrong with paperwork I would receive an email or call. Should i be worried? I was so excited to get the verbal offer but now i’m a little bit worried. I’m not aware of how long the process is and I’m new to the job market.

If anyone has some intel or information on this, I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you for ur time and I wish everyone a great weekend.

Misc Why does the Crystal Gateway Marriott skip floors 10, 11, and 13?

I’m staying at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA, and noticed that the elevators skip floors 10, 11, and 13.

I initially assumed floors 10 and 11 might be mechanical floors, but I walked the stairwells in both towers and they go directly from floor 9 to floor 12, with no additional floors or doors in between.

I also asked at the front desk, and they told me the numbering has been this way since the hotel opened, but they didn’t know why.

I understand skipping the 13th floor is fairly common, but I’m curious why floors 10 and 11 are also skipped.
Does anyone know why the building was designed or numbered this way?

Misc Does housekeeping get notified when the front desk confirms late checkout?

I’ve had this happen several times recently at Marriott properties in Europe, and I’m curious how this works behind the scenes.

I’m Ambassador Elite, and on these stays, the front desk explicitly confirmed my 4 p.m. late checkout during check-in. Yet on departure day, housekeeping still knocked in the morning—sometimes as early as 8 or 9 a.m.—waking me up, and I had to explain that I already had a confirmed late checkout.

Does housekeeping have access to each room’s confirmed checkout time? When the front desk records a late checkout, does that information automatically reach the housekeeping team, or does someone need to communicate it separately?

I appreciate the hotels honoring late checkout, and I know housekeeping staff are working hard and have rooms to turn over. But being woken up hours before the agreed checkout time is frustrating, especially when I’m using that extra time to rest.

Since this has happened at multiple properties, I’m wondering whether there’s a wider issue with how this information is shared. A confirmed late checkout seems like something both teams should be able to see.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’d especially appreciate hearing from hotel staff about how the process actually works.

Bonvoy Rewards Marriott Bonvoy: When enforcing loyalty-program rules becomes more important than customer loyalty

I've been deliberately directing my hotel stays toward Marriott properties this year, working toward Platinum Elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy program.

Recently, I prepaid for a nonrefundable room at a Courtyard by Marriott property. I completed online check-in, but travel delays prevented me from physically reaching the hotel that evening.

Marriott retained the full payment. I didn't request a refund, and I don't dispute the charge.

What surprised me was Marriott's refusal to award the single Elite Night Credit associated with the reservation.

I understand that Marriott's published terms require physical occupancy to earn Elite Night Credits. My concern isn't whether Marriott is contractually entitled to enforce that requirement. It's whether doing so without any flexibility makes business sense for a customer loyalty program.

I currently have 43 Elite Night Credits, with three additional hotel nights booked and another two expected through spending on my Marriott credit card. That puts me on track for 48 nights this year. Recognizing the prepaid reservation would bring me to 49, leaving just one additional qualifying night to reach Platinum Elite.

I contacted Marriott Customer Care, explained the circumstances, and requested a one-time goodwill accommodation or an equivalent resolution.

Their written response acknowledged my loyalty and the circumstances but stated:

"Elite Night Credits may only be granted when a member both pays for and stays at the hotel, and exceptions to this requirement cannot be made."

No alternative accommodation was offered.

I have approximately 50 hotel nights annually that I can direct toward Marriott or competing hotel groups. I would have thought retaining that business might warrant some flexibility over one night on a reservation Marriott was paid for in full.

Apparently not.

I'm not suggesting Marriott violated its published terms. I'm questioning whether a loyalty program that cannot exercise even modest discretion is particularly deserving of customer loyalty.

I would genuinely be interested in hearing how other frequent travelers evaluate hotel loyalty programs when situations like this arise.

Rates & Booking Walking People Regularly?

I stay at a property in the SF Bay Area (east bay, not in the city) for work very regularly. My company uses this hotel almost exclusively due to location and some insane stuff that happened at the nearby Hilton property a few years ago. Pretty much every time I'm there the hotel is oversold and people are getting walked. Numerous co-workers of mine have had this happen which is part of why I'm so aware.

Quite a few of us have Titanium or Ambassador status, not the ones who get bumped. Maybe this contributes if people with high status aren't booking in a timely manner?

Is this a common occurrence at busy hotels in general and I'm usually just oblivious or is it something else?
