Made in QGIS. I wonder how different Europe would look by the 15th century if the sea level was always this high?

It has been the biggest map I have ever done. It has gone through 2 revamps, the last version (image 1) being the one I have worked on the most. The first version was a test map since I didn't know how to work in Inkscape and was based on a Risk Universalis game, and from there I started to write the lore, which I consider very basic you can see it here). And I started this all the way back on July 24, 2025, with the V1 (3rd image), very basic didn't work on it for a lot of time. An unfinished map after I made the first revamp (image 2) on July 29, 2025. I tried to copy the looks of this map, and I worked more on this, but not too much, I can say. After that, the second and last revamp came, the one I put more time into starting on September 4th, 2025, until some months ago, approximately on September or August i can't say for sure, its been a very big proyect but that i have decided to scrap it since it took a lot of time. Here's the full thing, almost everything related to it, and since i do not know how to tag it, I put it in Discussion since it's not being worked on, nor is it finished. If you have questions, I'll answer them

Discussion Starting out. Advice welcome

Post image

My hands tremor too much for freehand sketching. Stamps have helped me be able to enjoy a craft again. This is rough but for a first try I'm pleased. The problem is I'm having a kitty of a time finding a river template.

Any advice is welcome.

Work In Progress WIP - Brother Venanzio's Guide of Tír Ghlas

And here is the first sheet of Brother Venanzio’s map, inked and awaiting color and gold!

As you can see, it ends at a fork in the road: the path to the left leads to Na dTrí Uisce, the provincial capital, but Brother Venanzio strongly recommends taking a detour to the Sanctuary of Naomh Eoin.

Inspired by a post by u/AdmirableZombie1023, I decided to give it a try to put my fictional continent of Yalera into the Google Maps style. How'd I do? If you have any questions about the map or lore of the world, just ask.

For my WW1-Era Setting. Happy to receive possible Feedback, I am worried that there might be too many large Islands and that the Continents might have a too regular distribution. Originally based on an Inkarnate Map, then redrawn in Krita.

Discussion Tips on efficient creation of contour lines from lidar data?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi! I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but I am working on creating a site plan for an architectural project and I need to create detailed contour lines based on lidar scans I have of the site. I heave earlier used CloudCompare for this, but it required huge amounts of manual cleanup of trees and branches and stuff...

Does anyone here have any tips on doing this better so that I don't have to spend hours and hours on cleanup?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Map Medieval GPS of Tír Ghlas

Post image
11 Upvotes

I'm working on a rather unusual map of Tír Ghlas, my fictional medieval world.

This time, instead of drawing a conventional geographical map, I'm trying to recreate the style of the 13th-century monk and cartographer Matthew Paris, particularly his famous strip maps showing the route from London to Jerusalem.

The idea is to represent the main roads of Tír Ghlas as a medieval traveller might have seen them: a succession of towns, villages, landmarks, and useful information, rather than a geographically accurate representation of the landscape.

The imaginary author of this map is Brother Venanzio, a travelling monk who has taken it upon himself to describe the roads of Tír Ghlas for the benefit of future travellers. He records towns, inns, markets, dangerous places to avoid, and anything else he considers worth mentioning. You can even see himself in the bottom corner, warning travellers about a particularly dangerous forest!

I'm using a mixture of Latin and Irish Gaelic for the place names and annotations, and trying to imitate the lettering and illustrations of medieval manuscripts.

This is still very much a work in progress: I've only completed part of the first strip, and there's a long road ahead!

Everything is hand-drawn, with ink on paper.

Discussion Websites/Apps for Google Maps style creating?

I want to make my own fictional countries provinces, municipalities and cities expandable and contractible and also a geographical terrain map of the heights and rivers. Not a country generator, something where you can draw the country's shape since most I find are AI fantasy world generators. I know there are pages for that since my friend sent me one but I can't remember the name. Preferably free since I am a student, I'm already 18 and I don't have savings.

Map Hi!

(i apologies for my poor English.)

Hi! I’ve never posted anything before, but I’ve always enjoyed drawing maps for the fantasy worlds I create.

Today, for the first time, I tried making a map showing elevations, depths, and rivers. I’m reasonably happy with how it turned out, so I decided to share it.

I know it’s not exactly high-level work, but I’d love to get some advice on how to improve.

(This specific map was just a random experiment in Ibis Paint, Just to practice drawing mountains and rivers, so it doesn’t have a story or a name.)

Always having trouble as to adding unique terrains and how possibly the prevailing winds would affect the landscape. Trying to mesh realistic landscapes but naturally having a free minded map makes me second guess alot. Any suggestions?

Work In Progress Bare Mercury

Post image

Bare Mercury is the name of my world. It is a transparent substance that looks like water, but it is actually a poison with a deceptively pleasant taste. The main character constantly struggles to achieve his goal, yet he refuses to give up on his dream, even if pursuing it ultimately leads to his death.

To sail west and discover lands that everyone has forgotten.

Map Fantasy map for my web novel

used vvd to make the landmasses, and then I went into Krita to make the distance measure, the never ending storm around the world that represents the divine rage, and the compass. I think it turned out fine.

My story isn't a super fantasy (Tolkien esk) but it's a multi-pov where adventuring across the world is a big part of it thus a map is needed for sure, so I kept it fairly simple. I already had a good idea of what it looked like mentally beforehand so it was pretty easy to make. Only took 4 hours spread across 2 sessions.

ps; if the geology is wrong or doesn't make sense... it's magic. trust me.

The cyan one is called Taygrus. Not only is it a continent but also a country just like australia. Taygrus is based on Norway, Greenland, Finland and sweden. Meanwhile Meridia is mostly desert due to the mountains blocking way, Hence land infront of the mountains are lush and grown. Novatia is kind if cold at the south but it has forests and a small cherry blossom island. Pallumya has the archipelago with the most of islands and has high elevation at the north. Alhai is mineral rich but dangerous north east of it and has 2 types of deserts. Antarbard is like taygrus but a bit warmer at the north. And finally the canhaim archipelago is home to some unique islands like fossil island and mushroom island

Map The land of Magic (Overworld && Dungeon)

Hey everyone, I'd like to share a few maps from my new game Magic Dragon Fantasy: Story, a classic style action-adventure zeldalike that I've worked hard to develop, playtest and polish over the past half year.

The map means a lot to me, it's one of the best maps I've made and I'm very proud of myself. I call the region 'Magic' as I feel it is a good moniker for my game setting. There are no deserts or tundra, no snowy mountain or tropical jungle as this is a temperate region by the ocean. A unique region that I'm very proud of is the floating lands in the north-east of the map, I've always like that trope.

Please, let me know what you think or what stands out.

Check out my game too, if you like, it's on Steam.

Work In Progress Critique/Feedback on my current topography-to-geography progress?

Hi, y'all. I'm trying to convert my previous topography map to a geographical map, but I feel like the equatorial continent is looking too...blah. Idk, I might just be overthinking but I feel like I'm having trouble figuring out what I should do next. I mostly want to ensure that I make it look "realistic" enough, but I'd like some advice from those who've experience in making these. Last picture includes current progress plus theoretical major currents and 30 degree interval latitude lines to show my reference points.

So this is my city map. It needs space for approx 13.2 million inhabitants. So what do you think? How many inhabitants do you think will fit?

I’m Dutch so some names might sound weird. I try to create a big variety of cultural names for the neighboorhoods written in red.

Colors on the map:
🔴 = Freeway
🔵 = City highway
🟢 = Mayor road
⚫️ = Road

Thick ⚫️ = Railroad
Thick 🔵 = River

Space 🔵 = Lakes
Space 🟢 = Parks/Green space
