Monthly Patreon Subscription

Hey everyone,

I really enjoy the show and have considered becoming a Patreon supporter before. However, I strongly dislike the payment by podcast and would much rather pay monthly, because it’s much easier to calculate with. Now, I saw that on the Patreon channel they posted a notification about monthly subscription, which is only visible to supporters (see Link). Can anyone share the info and let me know whether it will become possible to do a monthly subscription soon?

Thanks in advance for y’all’s answers!

I am struggling to figure out what makes the deck stronger

Post image
• Upvotes

I am having a struggle where I feels like I can draft strong cards, but I am not sure when to include weaker card to make the deck better overall. How important is bombs vs curve vs card draw vs removals. In the past I often felt like my deck was strong and got weak results or vice versa, felt like weaker cards that just worked very well together.

In this one I am trying to spend more time figuring out what is the correct inclusion (or even figuring out upfront if this is solid deck or just bunch of decent cards that won't do well together).
What I consider here:
+ Graft surgeon - fill in the curve with subpar 3 drop
+ Yuriko - could work very nice with 4/4s and Kwia, however my 4 drops are already packed
+ Kiora, Konstrari (potential Woodwork) - include Kiora bomb and some ramp, feels like I don't have enough mana fixing.
+ Thalia - more life gain to go with bloombrute, didn't feel like it would justify another 4 drop.

- second Tomik - being legendary and not so strong, not sure if 2x makes sense to run.

Thanks for any feedback or ideas about limited deckbuilding.

Somehow managed 1-3 with all this power

Felt like a waste. Deck wasn't all that great, but should've done better than that. Lost to two insane on the play Fastbond starts and simultaneously flooding plus not drawing red mana

What would you guys do here for turn one? The possible play is just lotus out palace jailer on turn one, and then get the monarch. The issue is that wastes both your lotus, and the removal potential of the jailer. The other option is to leave up blast for their turn two play, absent for their turn three, lutri (or cycle oliphant if I didn't draw land) or whatever i draw for my turn three, and then jailer on my turn four and probably be in a very dominant position. But is the one card per turn just better? There are not many two drops with haste in this format, but I woul[d be pretty far behind if they had one. Also, I could always wait and do jailer on turn two or something, and just wait till they play a creature. I feel like this is one of those nuanced postitions where you really need to understand the "flow" of the game to find the best play. Deck in pick two for reference of game plan.

TLDR; Do I play jailer turn one or wait to use it as removal.

Discussion FRA: Is the Crusher splash too greedy here?

The deck is fire as it is; but I kinda like having the top end finisher - and the mana is serviceable.

Thoughts?

How does the number of landcyclers influence the number of lands you'd run?

In this format, I feel like mana flooding accounts for the largest share of my losses. Since I'm usually running like 3 or more landcyclers if I can find and afford to pick them, I'm often in a spot when building my deck where I'm not sure how many lands I should be running.

In cycling-heavy decks, I found that you can be putting yourself in a really bad/awkward spot during a game if you run a "normal" land count and you're forced to cycle like twice in the early game. Looking back at some replays, it looked like I was setting myself up to getting flooded later.

So I'm interested, what are your heuristics? How do you factor in other mana sources like Heartwood Tokens and Tomes? How often do you run off color cyclers? How highly do you prioritize picking up cyclers in the first place - especially if you have to choose between a Planeswalker Dual and a Cycler?

Oh my god, this deck was sooooo much fun. I had the most insane comebacks with the boardwipe. The fixing was just the right amount to get the engines going! Sooo many combos 😍

I would play this deck for 3 more drafts.

Help with a deck

Hey guys. I'm not really sure if I built this deck correctly, given the pool. I went through the draft again, and I think I'd make the same picks. I would appreciate some tips for the future deck building and picks. Thanks.

Absolutely doing tricks on it with this one; one win was pinging a bunch of Nadu creatures intentionally and then recalling opponent into wheeling for game

7-2 Contender with Rareless (well, nonland) Mardu

A bit of fresh air with all the grindy blue soup decks running around.

Initially didn't put the mono black removals, but they really proved their worth.

Kinda funny we're like back to TDM with soup vs mardu

Help Trying to learn from gameplay mistakes

I feel like I could have won the last game (game 4) but I can't really identify where I went wrong with the play (well besides trying to remove Liliana). Was I holding onto my bombs for too long (trying to play around an Icy Reception? Any insight would be helpful - thanks!

I unfortunately didn't find any baubles or spellbomb etc, but I feel like I was on the right track. Should I be playing anything from side or cut, or land count? Thank you guys

Rate My Draft Would you splash white here?

Ocelot Pride is obviously a strong card, Glimmer Lense would be great card draw, and Chromatic Star is fixing plus recurring card draw with Lurrus.

What would be the cuts?

Some side bullshit, the app glitched out and I didn’t get a first pick and it auto picked Ketria Triome pick two. You can see in the second picture I’m on pick three with only one card.

Never drafted VOW before and could not figure out what the seat was, picked up some white, some blue, a black bomb and [[Bleed Dry]], then saw a [[Wandering Mind]] late and figured I might as well see if UR was open and ended up with a very meh-looking deck that went all the way! Never saw a [[Lantern Bearer]] or [[Kessig Flamebreather]]. Basically won off of evasion, card advantage and removal.

Discussion What's your longest streak on the play/draw

Post image
0 Upvotes

Am I crazy to treat the games decision of play/draw like a fair coin toss? I'm on a 10x streak of being on the draw in premier draft. The odds of this occurring should be 1/1024 or 0.0977%. For some reason 17L didn't track my last game of the first draft.

I don't know that I have much desire to see how long I can continue this streak. If I go to 11, that's 1/2048. Does the game have a pity timer for people that run this cold? Lol.

Curious if anyone has similar outliers in their 17L data. Talk me off the tilt ledge.

Is it foolish to splash black here?

Post image

As I'm sure you can tell, the draft didn't go well. Wondering if I should stick with very mediocre UG or add in the black for the extra power of Garruk and Charms...

The manabase is pretty rough (looked for fixing through pack 3 but it was scarce), Garruk is double-pipped, and I imagine Charm's utility drops off significantly if you can't play it in the early turns (why I didn't build in the third, not sure if that makes much sense though). And there's nothing else black to even play, so it's probably not even adding much real power to the deck. I'm probably just being scared of how weak the deck looks without Garruk.

Appreciate any decently-explained opinions.

Just went 7-1 with this deck. P1P1 was Ouroboid which was hella weak. P1P2 was fury which obviously didn’t make the deck list. Was a tough draft but I really like how the list played out.

I got to do basically everything this deck wanted to do.

- Strip mine + icetill loops
- Baloth Prime + zuran/safekeeper/fetch/strip mines
- Natural ordered into both Wurm and Torstan
- My very first game after natural ordering into Wurm, I copied it with Nantuko 3x and passed the turn. Opponent went off with LED + Breach + Freeze but whoopsie I had blightsteel in my deck
- got to breach fatties

And my final match, dude did doomsday + thoracle + brain freeze himself. Once all freezes resolved I flashed in Endurance 😎

Who needs power?

7-1 with a very fun GW lifegain deck

Only loss was to a deck that won with Fblthp before I could kill them. Deck felt awesome, though. I actually had two more [[Something Worth Saving]] in my sideboard, but I was a little concerned about milling myself in longer games. Overall, though, this deck played very aggressive and put a lot of pressure on the dirdly blue decks. I think there are a lot of pieces that need to fit right to get this archetype to work, but when it does, it can really pop off.

Discussion How much "okay" removal is overkill?

I've noticed that the Quick Draft bots are often less eager to pick removal than real players. Is there a point when you decide "okay, I've got enough non-premium removal" and stop taking it, or are you happy to put 10 "C" grade removal spells (such as [[Osseous Exhale]] or [[Anchovy and Banana Pizza]]) into your deck?

r/lrcast • • 16h ago

Too much top end? I have it down to 44 cards. Any suggestions for final cuts?
