Years ago, your life was forever changed by a brush with the Feywild. As a child, you found yourself irresistibly drawn to the glamor and spectacle of the wondrous Witchlight Carnival as it passed near your home. For whatever reason - a dare, an inability to pay, an innocent mistake, or some other motive perhaps lost to memory - you snuck in without buying a ticket. You spent the evening enchanted by the beautiful and the bizarre, but after leaving, you realized you had not truly attended for free. Something was taken from you, something intangible, and by the time you realized, the carnival was gone. This loss has haunted you ever since. Now, at last, the carnival is back in town, and youâre returning to the Witchlight to take back what was stolen from you.Â

I want to run the Wild Beyond the Witchlight module and Iâm looking for 3-5 players to join me! Iâm planning to hold 3-4 hour sessions every other week on Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, depending on what works best for people. Iâll be using Discord and Roll20; I prefer to have everyone be able to see each other on video, but itâs not a hard rule.Â
This is a very RP-forward module, even stating in the intro that itâs possible to resolve the story without ever engaging in combat. I enjoy running combat and donât want any charactersâ abilities to feel useless, so Iâll be balancing it more than that, but itâll still lean heavily towards RP. Even though the adventure itself is lighthearted and often a little silly, Iâd prefer players take RP âseriouslyâ in the sense that you make decisions in character and engage with the story.
A note on genre/tone: as Curse of Strahd is a horror module, Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a fairytale module. Itâs a story that includes unicorns, giant snail racing, a gang of plucky orphans, a bullywug named Dumphrey Frogart, and a talking spoon. Multiple NPCs will speak to you in rhyming couplets. There are elements of dark fantasy and the more grim (or Grimm) side of fairytales too, but the prevailing sentiment is whimsy. You don't have to create a lighthearted or whimsical character; in fact, I bet itâs probably really fun to play a PC whoâs out of their element. Just be forewarned that, while you can absolutely play your jaded oathbreaker with a tragic past and a thirst for revenge, she will almost certainly be challenged to a poetry contest by a gnome.Â
