Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering English Offering: English, Seeking: Chinese (basic level)

Hi guys, I’m a native English speaker and I teach English classes. I’m looking for someone to practice my Chinese with.

Proposal: I’m looking for someone to exchange short voice messages with to practice speaking. I have a low level of Chinese (used to be HSK2/3 level but I’ve completely forgotten everything) so the conversation would be kind of basic, therefore I’m looking for someone who also has a low/basic level of English so that we’re both equal.

The idea is to just send short voice messages and correct each other’s grammar, or share more natural ways of speaking English/Chinese.

Let me know if anyone is interested 😊 谢谢

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: French

Hi all! I'm a 28M from Australia hoping to link up with some French speakers to improve my conversation skills and make some new friends. I'm a native English speaker, and have also worked in the past as an English tutor, so hopefully I can provide some help to any French-speaking English learners.

I've been learning French for about a year and a half. I can write in French at about an A2-B1 level, and read at about a B1-B2 level. The real struggle at the moment is my conversation skills, but I'm also working with a tutor to improve that.

I'll be heading over to France in about 5 months' time, so it would be cool to make some friends that I could potentially meet up with in the future. But that's definitely not a mandatory requirement, and I'm happy with all types of conversation partners.

As for my interests outside of French, I'm a huge bookworm and I enjoy hiking and generally being out in nature. I'm also a big music listener: I have pretty broad music tastes and I'm always down to hear about what you're listening to at the moment. Send me a message if any of this interests you!

Offering Korean Offering: Korean | Seeking: English

Hi everyone!☺️💕I'm 27F from Seoul.

My English is at an intermediate level. I can make basic small talk, but I want to speak more fluently. I'm not a professional teacher, but I will do my best to help you practice 🇰🇷Korean in return!

I have a variety of hobbies and would love to talk about them:

📺Shows & Anime: Japanese anime (Detective Conan, Frieren), US dramas (Friends), and Korean TV (Please Take Care of My Refrigerator).

🍽️Food & Cafes: Trying new foods/snacks, visiting traditional teahouses, and making good sourdough sandwiches at home.

🏃‍♀️Creative & Active: Taking photos with my digital camera, cooking and jogging.

I'm looking for a female partner around my age to do voice calls on Discord, but just exchanging text messages is totally fine too!

Instead of strict study sessions, I just want to make genuine friends and chat comfortably about our daily lives. Also, if you use KakaoTalk, it would be much easier for me to help you practice Korean!

💌Send me a message if you're interested!

Offering English Offering: English 🇺🇸l Seeking : Japanese 🇯🇵

I am new to Japanese, currently about 4 months in, and working through the Genki 1 textbook.

If you would like to practice your English, just message me. I am at the very beginning of starting to speak, so nothing too advanced at this point! I am lacking confidence in my speaking and would like to remedy that.

I can do Zoom or whatever. I'm okay sending basic messages back and forth as well.

I'm also up for just messaging about Japanese topics. Especially Japanese dramas and books/literature. I'm not really into manga or anime, although my son watches Attack on Titan and a couple of others 🤣.

Just looking for friends to practice with. Thanks!

Offering Portuguese Offering: Portuguese (Native) + friendship | Seeking: English & French

Just to be clear, I’m not looking for dating or anything romantic. I’m genuinely interested in language exchange, meeting new people, and making friends from different countries!

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well!

I’m 22 years old and I’m from Brazil! 🇧🇷 I’m looking for people to practice English and French with, and I’d be happy to help anyone who’s interested in learning Portuguese too!

My English is currently around B2, while my French is still at a beginner level (A1), so I’d love to improve both!
I’ll also be moving to Paris soon, where I’ll be spending some time studying. During my stay, I hope to improve my English and learn more French!

I’m always happy to have a conversation, whether it’s about languages, everyday life, cultural differences, or just random topics.
Feel free to send me a DM if you’d like to chat! :)

Title: Offering English (Native Speaker 🇺🇸) in Exchange for Spanish 🇪🇸🇲🇽
¡Hola a todos! 😊
I’m a native English speaker from the United States looking for a Spanish-speaking language exchange partner!
I’m currently learning Spanish at the A1 (beginner) level, and my goal is to become conversationally fluent. I’m especially interested in improving my speaking, listening, pronunciation, and everyday vocabulary.
What I can offer:
Help with conversational English
Pronunciation and grammar corrections
Everyday expressions and natural English phrases
Friendly, patient conversations in English
What I’m looking for:
A native Spanish speaker who wants to improve their English
Someone patient with a beginner
Regular practice through text messages, voice messages, or occasional voice calls
A balanced exchange where we both have time to practice
A little about me: I’m a homeschooling mom, a former nurse, and an ESL volunteer. I love learning about other cultures, traveling, and meeting people from different backgrounds. I’m also interested in Christian missions and hope to use Spanish to connect with and serve Spanish-speaking communities.
I’m happy to help whether your English is beginner, intermediate, or advanced!
If you’re interested, please leave a comment or send me a message.
¡Gracias! Espero que podamos aprender juntos! 😊
