I have a 50 foot check cord that I use to let my dog run (we don't have a fence). I would like to tie it to a very stable/heavy table leg so that about 15 ft is at one end and the remaining 35 ft are anchored to the table leg. What's the best knot to use? Thanks much!

The Bosun Lanyard knot, Knife Lanyard Knot, Diamond Knot, What Knot... whatever you call it the ferrets try out their most complicated knot so far.
Thanks u/Wolfingwolfing for the suggestion. There is just barely enough tube for this one.

I've been looking into getting a folding knife for rope work on the go and the Myerchin ones keep popping up. There are tons of mixed reviews about them, so I'm a bit confused. The main things I'm worried about are the build quality, edge retention and the quality of the spike. I've heard that the lanyard ring, in the more recent ones, is pretty flimsy, could someone give their thoughts on it?
Thanks in advance!
Given a closed loop of rope, is there any knot that will let you tie the loop to a pole (no access to the pole ends) in a way that lets you adjust the length from the knot to the other end? Something like a cow hitch, but the cow hitch doesn't let you adjust the length.
This is basically the set up I'm trying to describe

And I want to be able to adjust the length of the blue rope relatively easily.

Make a Marlinspike Hitch and pass a rope end through the space normally occupied by the spike. Then pull the indicated strands to capsize the arrangement into the finished knot.
You may recognize this as the Snap Bowline method (ABoK #1788). Ashley also describes it for the Sheet Bend (#1473, #1990 and #2005), including under the name Short End Bend. The Crabber’s Eye Knot (#1987) has a similar sliding-to-locked transformation.
The same idea works for all the family members shown. Changing which strands you pull—and which way you pass the end through the hitch—determines the result. For example, reversing the insertion direction in the bowline setup switches between a normal and a cowboy bowline.

I know only one knot, the one I use to tie my shoes and it doesn't work for this application 😄

the end of the lash and of the shorter string have eyes and I'd think they could be used to good effect. the short loop would go through a hole in the toy. The knot is semipermanent, but it would be cool if it could be undone reasonably easily.
Any suggestion of a knot I can then lookup somewhere?
Thanks!

I'm confused because these two videos both show a perfection loop but the initial setup is different.
I can do a perfection loop by looking at a single image of how to tie it.
This video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uhx-oKt7M3M
has the initial step as a loop, crossed behind.
This video:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vaawA6fpoXY&t=7s&pp=2AEHkAIB
Has the initial step as just pinching the rope.
But then the rest is identical. And they both make the perfection loop.
How is this possible?
Ps. I find the manual way of tying it (make an overhand knot then wrap the working end back through around etc) actually easier and you can get the length of the loop very exact.

the pulling forces would effectively become cuts if so. curious as to what thoughts you all may have.

I was noodling around with some paracord and ending up making an adjustable loop that seems useful. I'm sure I'm not the first to tie it, but it would be interesting to know what it is.
EDIT: Finished knot:

How can I tie this? Presumably the wrap around the staff is a Prusik.

I was doing some searching on this subreddit and other related subreddits, but nothing relevant came up regarding what I'm trying to do. There's a satellite dish I'm hoping to lower from a flat roof that is about ~9-10 ft off the ground, and I was trying to see what is the best way to go about this using knots / DIY methods, if possible. Otherwise I'm also open to any other ideas or thoughts people have. For context I am a broke college student so please keep that in mind 😅
Additional context: I need a satellite dish for a school project (parabolic solar concentrator, for those curious); a local business owner contacted me and said he has one on his roof he could give me for free.
Update: the business owner said he has a ladder but I imagine it may still be somewhat of a challenge to get it down. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on how they would lower this thing to the ground; the best idea I had was to use a double half hitch + tautline hitch between an anchor point on the roof and the dish, and then just slowly move along the working end of the tautline hitch until the dish is all the way down.

I'd like to do it with a noose-like knot, something decorative but secure. Suggestions?

I am looking into ways to digitally catalogue the corpus of practical knots, such as the normal knots we talk about every day here in the IGKT forum, and see in books, and use in daily life.
I would prefer to build on existing work rather than invent another notation or format. I've looked at Gauss codes, Dowker-Thistlethwaite codes, and other planar knot notation but found they don't work for 3D knots, knots with a 'host' or core like many hitches and the Monkey's Fist among many others.
Mathematical knot studies that I have read seem to have focused on closed-loop, 2D knots. For practical knots, however, the full 3D arrangement is important: open ends and bights, multiple turns, rope diameter, a core in a Monkey's fist, rings or spars, contact/friction, loading, and the sequence in which a knot is tied.
Does anyone know of useful existing open source work in any of these areas? (I've no interest in proprietary or closed-source work, I can't/won't use it)
The aim is not necessarily to model every physical knot property right away, but it would be nice to be able to extend the system towards that destination of a full 'practical knot simulator'.
A useful first step might simply be a reliable, inspectable 3D representation that can support a catalogue, interactive viewer, comparison of variants, and eventually physical simulation. I'm in favour of simple, textual formats that can be hand-written by humans but parsed by computers (a good example of this is Mermaid diagrams)
References, links, examples, and contacts would all be very welcome, including older or abandoned projects.

any tips or recs on how to get precise loop lengths and also which knots you would recommend to make my pair of blocks symmetrical length?

Looking for some knots that may work well to tie some stabilizer straps to my deer stand, and another to lock the ladder brace to the tree.
Thought maybe a bowline at the top with the rope run through the bite and then a truckers hitch at the ladder’s vertical to put tension. Not sure on the ladder brace to tree connection.
