AMA AMA Announcement: Aaron Weiner, independent candidate for Hudson County Commissioner (District 4). Tuesday Oct 20, 6 PM ET
Hi r/jerseycity!
We’ve got an AMA coming up with u/aaronweinerD4 AKA Aaron Weiner, who’s running as an independent for Hudson County Commissioner in District 4.
Here’s how it works: drop your questions in this thread anytime before Tuesday. On Tuesday, October 20 at 6 PM ET, Aaron will come on and answer them, and he’ll also take new questions live for about an hour and a half. We’ve done it this way before and it worked well, since it lets people who can’t make the live session still get their questions in.
Here’s Aaron in his own words:
I live in the Heights and I’m running as an independent. Outside of the campaign, I’m a physical therapist, data analyst, and anatomy and physiology instructor. I’ve spent a lot of time during this campaign knocking on doors and talking with people around the district, and one thing I hear pretty often is that people either don’t know what county government does or aren’t sure why they should care about it. Fair question.
County government touches more of our daily lives than most people realize, from the county budget and taxes to roads, parks, healthcare, education, transportation, and other services. I’ve also been trying to be clear about what a commissioner can actually do and where the county has to work with Jersey City, Trenton, or someone else.
So ask me whatever you want. My background, why I’m running, what I think the county should be doing differently, something on my platform, or even something you think I’m wrong about.
Keep it civil. Tough questions are fine, but the usual sub rules still apply.
Drop your questions for Aaron below and see you Tuesday.

Pedestrian plaza is disgusting.
It smells like shit and piss and rats are running rampant. Each business should be granted a small enclosed steel container for garbage.

🕵🏻♂️News 🕵🏻♂️ GEICO Must Refund $10.5M To Overcharged NJ Policyholders, Pay $1.2M Penalty
Hey folks, just came across this news and wanted to see if anyone else has heard about it!
GEICO has to refund more than $10.5 million to New Jersey policyholders because of improper insurance charges.
Has anyone here with GEICO car insurance received a refund or notification from them yet? Might be worth checking your account or reaching out to GEICO to see if you’re eligible.
Curious if anyone has heard anything from them!

Is this the sort of proposal that just hangs around for years and rots? Or could this genuinely get built in the near future?

Mayor Solomon, put our trash cans back!
Please sign my petition which will go directly to Soloman’s office. I’ve been calling nonstop to complain. Removing the trash cans is a cost cutting pilot program so if enough of us complain they will put them back! https://c.org/vKrPkxRKzT

Is this your building’s reception office? (Package delivered to wrong address)
Hi all! Does anyone recognize the surroundings in this picture? My Amazon package was delivered to the wrong address. If I could find it and get it back, that would be great! It was to be delivered to a townhouse on York and Grove so I’m assuming they dropped it off at a building near that area
It has nothing too important besides my cat’s stuff and a piece of my Halloween costume, so if you have it, it wont be of use to you!

Downtown Jersey City 1BR at 225 Grand | ~$3,460/mo | 760 SQFT | Skyline Views, Gym, Pool, Laundry, 7 Min to PATH
Broke a Jersey City luxury lease and helping find someone for my former apartment at 225 Grand Street. Available immediately.
It’s a ~760 sq ft 1BR in downtown Jersey City with great natural light, hardwood floors, a modern kitchen, in-unit washer/dryer, and an east-facing view of the NYC skyline.
A few things I really liked about living here:
- Location: About a 7-minute walk to Grove Street PATH. Tons of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shops within walking distance.
- Amenities: Building gym, outdoor pool, resident lounge, and other common spaces. In unit washer/dryer
- Management: Genuinely responsive and helpful. One of the better management experiences I’ve had.
- Community: Friendly neighbors, nice atmosphere, and a great place to live.
- Apartment: Spacious layout, big windows, great views, and plenty of natural light.
Price: About $3,460/month effective for 12 months. Final amount depends on move in date and lease duration. This amount is if you move within next couple weeks and do 12 months.
This would be a new lease through building management, not an informal sublet. Though if you prefer it to go through August 2027 we can also discuss a formal lease takeover.
I’ve attached photos of the actual unit and building.
Feel free to DM me if interested in apt number or if you’d like more information!

Where to get Thanksgiving dinner
Every year we scramble to find a local turkey, and by the time I remember, half the farms have sold out. So this year I put it all in one place: where to buy every course of Thanksgiving dinner from farms, butchers and bakers in Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon and Somerset counties.
It’s organized the way you’d actually plan the meal (appetizers, main course, sides, stuffing and gravy, dessert, drinks), with up to three picks per course in each county. Where a farm has posted this year’s order deadline or pickup days, it’s on there. A few that are coming up fast:
- Maddalena’s (Ringoes): Thanksgiving dinner and pies, order by Nov 10
- Arctic Foods (Washington): prepared dinners, order by Nov 17
- Sussex Meat Packing (Wantage): complete turkey dinners, order by Nov 18
- Kingspring Farm (Stockton): pasture-raised turkeys, said it had 7 left as of last week
You can tap “Add to my table” on the places you want and it builds a Google Maps route for your shopping run.
https://skylandsfood.com/thanksgiving-table/
Full disclosure: it’s my site, Skylands Food, an independent guide to local food in NW Jersey. Nobody pays to be on it. Picks are ranked by a few simple rules that are listed on the page: farms that raise their own birds, businesses that have posted 2026 details, and owners who’ve confirmed their info.
Did I miss anything?

Looking for a patient driving instructor
Hey everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a good driving instructor in Jersey City.
I struggle with driving anxiety, and unfortunately, some of the instructors I’ve had in the past would yell at me, which made me lose confidence and feel discouraged.
My goal is to pass my road test, build my confidence behind the wheel, and eventually feel comfortable enough to actually enjoy driving. I’m looking for someone who’s calm, patient, encouraging, and good at preparing students for the road test without making them feel worse about their mistakes.
If anyone has personally worked with an instructor who helped them pass and made them feel comfortable driving, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

Rant GodDammit I kicked a huge rat while running tonight.
Every night I run along the river and every night, without exception, I saw huge rats dashing across the walkway. There were times when I almost run into the rat, but I managed to avoid them in the last seconds -- I thought that maybe one day I would not be that lucky.
Today I was running and out of nowhere I felt that I solidly kicked some squishy yet firm beach ball. I didn't saw no balls rolling around? Confused as I was, I looked down and saw this huge rat tumbling on the ground in front of me, then just managed to regain balance and ran away into the bush. GODDAMMIT.
