Original Discussion Why was carly so upset finding out Sam and Freddie kissed???
I'm rewatching iCarly, and I just got past the episode where Carly finds out that Sam and Freddie kissed, and I genuinely don't understand why she was SO irritated about it??
Like, Sam and Freddie literally kissed just to kiss. At this point in the show, neither of them has romantic feelings for the other, and Carly doesn't even have feelings for Freddie, so why exactly is she so upset???
Carly also seems to think she's entitled to know everything that happens between her friends simply because they're close which this might just be my personal phisophy that I disagree with but, I find that mindset a little ridiculous.
Being friends with someone doesn't automatically mean you're entitled to every detail of their personal life. People are allowed to have experiences, conversations, and relationships that don't involve you, even if you're their best friend.
I understand feeling a little left out or surprised that your two closest friends shared something without telling you, but I found her in that episode lowk a bit annoyinfđđđ
Sam and Freddie kissing wasn't something that directly involved Carly, nor was it something they were obligated to disclose to her. It was THEIR experience, not hers.
I just find it strange how the episode frames Carly's frustration as though her friends keeping something private is inherently wrong. Friendship doesn't mean having unrestricted access to someone's personal life, and I don't think privacy should be mistaken for dishonesty.
Am I missing something here, or was Carly genuinely overreacting? đ

Original Discussion This episodeâs plot was total bullshit
Yeah it was from that episode where Carly and Freddie had to go to the root and berry retreat, but I still hate how Sam didnât do shit on her project and somehow got a passing grade. I felt bad for Carly in this episode aside from the Scooter that she didnât scold Spencer for that was extremely slow, but also why couldnât she have celebrated at home instead? Like not invite the teacher or just celebrate between Carly and her friends? Maybe this episode is the reason why the teacher only appeared once in this episode and not for the rest of the series?

Other Discussion Male iCarly fans that grew up watching the show. Did anyone here ever get bullied/teased for it?
Ok so when iCarly came out I was in late elementary school, and from the get go I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE SHOW! I watched the entire thing from start to finish basically as close to live as possible
However being a boy, what I wasnât prepared for was the very sad and pathetic social stigma attached to being a fan of this series
I remember when season 1 came out I was living in a town where I had a good group of friends and me and my best friend actually discovered it together and watched the eps together at times, then I moved away midway through season 2 and it wasnât a talking point immediately at the new school so I didnât talk to anyone about it
I remember the year was 2010, so it would have been like season 3-4 era, and we had a casual clothes/free dress day at school and one of the girls rocked up in an icarly shirt. And I said to her âyo I love that show itâs awesomeâ, now this particular girl wasnât the nicest of girls anyway so socially it was a mistake to even approach her especially in a group of 3-4, but basically all the girls laughed at me and said that itâs a girls show and that you shouldnât be watching this, and boy did I take it personally
I also remember there was a guy that would do/say stuff at school that were clear iCarly references and when I said âhey thatâs from iCarlyâ heâd go âno itâs not, why would I watch that itâs a girls show I have never seen itâ, even tho he clearly had
It wasnât until well after it ended that I actually started talking to other guys about the series and for the most part those conversations happened as adultsâŚwhich is fucking pathetic. Just because the show has a female lead doesnât mean itâs for girls, by the end of the series the main cast actually was more male dominated but it always consistently had even genders which I think is a big reason why it actually worked

Original Discussion Rewatching as an adult
Recently I rewatched icarly for the first time since being an adult and oh my god this show holds up so well.
I find myself genuinely crying laughing at almost anything Spencer says or does. I also think Gibby in the last half of the show is hilarious.
Heâs kinda ditzy but not in a way where it feels like âno one can be this dumbâ he just feels really outgoing and like he has no social awkwardness and I love it
I think Carly and Sam are incredibly well written teenage girls (Iâm only 21 so I remember being a teenager pretty well) and they are just so accurate and so relatable.
The only âcomplaintâ I sorta have is that I think Freddie grew up to be pretty insufferable and a bit of a pick me. Overall though Iâm actually shocked by how good this show is đ

Original Discussion (hot take?) flanderization of spencer in later seasons + reboot (reboot spence is different anyway) was disappointing.
I get that itâs a show revolving the three, and adults barley have continuous spotlight but spencer was sorta an exception to that rule maybe. he had good side bits and storylines but as the season went on they of course had character development for carly sam freddie, spencer kinda just flanders- which is disappointing because he actually had a lot of potential for side storylines/character development while still remaining fun and cool.
in the reboot he barely even had a personality of his own.

Original Discussion Rewatching iCarly as an adult and HOW did I never realize how gay Nevel comes across despite being a straight character
I'm currently rewatching iCarly and I'm on Season 2, and one thing I genuinely cannot get over is how GAY Nevel Papperman is despite his character veing straightđđđ
Like HOW did I not notice this as a kid??
I know Nevel is supposed to be straight, especially considering his attraction to Carly, but his mannerisms, the way he speaks, his vocal inflections, his expressions, and just his entire presentation remind me SO MUCH of Kurt Hummel from Glee.
Obviously, being feminine or flamboyant doesn't automatically make someone gay, but Kurt's Towlette scene and Nevels Tapinade are literally in different fonts
And now that I'm rewatching the show as an adult, I genuinely cannot unsee the similarities between him and Kurt Hummel. They're obviously very different characters personality-wise, but the way they carry themselves feels SO similar.
Am I the only one who thinks Nevel comes across as incredibly gay-coded despite being a straight character? Because I swear this completely flew over my head when I was younger đ

Other Discussion Had a weird dream about Spencer I thought was funny
Spencer Shay and Johnny Lawrence from Cobra Kai were in this episode. They both step out of the apartment for a smoke, Freddie notices Spencer and says: âYou smoke too?â Spencer stares at Freddie for 5 seconds in his eyes with a cigarette between his fingers and says: ââŚno.â A laugh track plays then they leave. I thought this was hilarious for some reason.

Other Discussion What's the cartoon in the background?
I know that clearer footage of this cartoon has been shown in other episodes, but this is the only episode I remember that includes it.
For years I've been wondering what is the animation that plays in the background that features a bear and a skunk. The art style reminds me of 90s NickToons like Rocko's Modern Life and The Angry Beavers.
Is it just an original animation produced just to play in the background? A reused unaired pilot? Is the full animation available somewhere?
Sorry if this topic was already posted on the sub.

Revival Discussion Welp, Hollywood Arts makes this reboot look even better
Given how a lot of the dialogue and trends are already dated on that show, iCarlyâs new team actively got with the times and was not afraid to throw punches with its humor.

Original Discussion Honestly, what was Spencer trying to do here?
I understand that he was feeling so uncomfortable from the situation that he didn't know what to do, but what was he gonna achieve by letting Trudy drag him on the floor like a potato sack without even doing something about it?

Original Discussion The Psychology of Sam
This is going to be a long one. I apologize in advance.
Rewatching Icarly as an adult and there was so much that I missed as an adolescent. I have so many thoughts about many different aspects of the show. This post will be about Sam (one of my favorites). For clarity, this post is completely about Sam (the character) and not relating at all to Jeanette McCurdy (as my thoughts are relating to this post is purely on the shows lore and characters and not the background implications).
As a child and teen (and even now, as someone that is in college) I love Icarly. Itâs by far one of my top 5 comfort shows. As a teen I recognized thatâs there was definitely some shadowing of serious issues in the show but when a guy is drinking a smoothie next to an ostrich, itâs hard to focus on it.
Sam. First thing first, I love her so much. Her character is so great, and itâs refreshing to see a character so complex as her. From the outside (and as a teen), I just saw a stubborn, food loving, kinda mean, protective girl who just went with the flow. As an adult? I finally see Sam for what her character actually was.
Like most teens, she didnât come from a perfect household. Saying that she came from a bad household wouldnât even be enough for what she went through.
1) She and her twin sister were born on a city bus. This is used as a joke in the show but in reality this would be a nightmare. Chances of her or Melanie having some sort of traumatic birth would kr been high. The lack of proper medical sterilization and care during and after birth right away would have been catastrophic. Twins have about a 60% chance of passing before birth due to complications. The show points out that this is because of Samâs mother not proerly planning.
As quoted in iTwins: âMy mom's not good at planningâ (Sam)-
While this is said like a joke I actually am lead to believe that Samâs mom didnât know that she was going to go into labor. Samâs mom is a lot of things, but statistically the chances of premature labor with twins is very high.
2) The jokes about Sam loving food: looking back, I feel immensely bad for how Sam is treated with food. Samâs mom is financially very unstable. She unstable period. Sheâs in and out of jail, implied to be on drugs (or âvitaminsâ per the show), and she does not have a job. Samâs father abandoned the family when she was a child, and to cope with this Samâs mother brings home random men into the apartment. From the âjokesâ in the show, it seems like Samâs mother spends her money only on herself. There is never food at home, which is why Sam is so good aggressive. Sheâs worried she wonât get another meal.
Food is a constant in her life. I feel with Sam, as that is her coping mechanism. Hunger is a pain that you can make go away. There are so many pains in Samâs life that she cannot make go away. This is why I love Spencer so much from the perspective of an adult, because he always has an abundance of food in the house for Sam. Sam practically lives in Carlyâs apartment, because itâs a safe household free of drugs and random men and the possibility of jail.
She is teased a lot of liking food, and I think this brings her a bit of comfort because people think that she just likes foodâŚa lot. Not that she is constantly afraid of not eating and that she has coping issues. I think Spencer recognizes this so thatâs why sometimes he does light teasing. It makes her feel normal. She hates being seen as a burden and is stubborn to the core. She hates asking for help, so thatâs why itâs easier to be this thick skinned mean girl who just likes food a lot. But sheâs not, but her environment has created a side of her that she shows to almost everyone.
3) her âmeannessâ: her words to Gibby and Freddie are not good. Iâm not even going to say that sheâs in the right there. But, the reason she does it is because it gives her a sense of control. Itâs ironic that most people who were abused, become abusers. The cycle always continues. She has always felt very small and out of control. Belittling others allows her to feel big and to feel like she isnât less than nothing. She is actually a very sweet girl, and the one scene that sticks out to me is when she got a job at the Chili place.
She started crying to Carly and when Freddie walked in she started growling/screaming. After Freddie ran away out of fear, she went back to crying. Less than 30 seconds truly showed who Sam was. Sam is a fundamentally abused girl who had the childhood of nightmares. As a teen, sheâs trying to be cool and trying to be normal but itâs hard when everything around you is held by duck tape of your own placing. She has zero control, so she controls her words (by being mean) to get control. She eats a lot to not feel that pain that she feels so much of whenever she isnât with Carly. She most likely has some sort of medical issue from birth but due to how little her mother cares, she isnât receiving assistance.
Yet, Sam is treated by her friends like everyone else. Nobody fully sees her issues because she uses humor as a coping mechanism. Sam is a lot like most adults I encounter. And I hope that all the Samâs out there find happiness in their life, as they never chose to be in the hellish life they were given.
Rant over. Sam, I love you and I wish her character as an adult is happy and finds true peace and comfort.

Other Discussion Was Spencer irresponsible?
Spencer was always setting things on fire. If I had a brother like that I would be parenting him.
Why did Carly's parents let her live with Spencer despite how irresponsible he was? She had the webshow yeah which she did with Sam and Freddie. Being friends with the mean girl and nerdy boy was a lot better than having a brother who starts fire. Freddie's mom was just as bad not irresponsible but overbearing. No wonder Mr. Benson probably left she's crazy. Carly's like thirteen so I think she can help take care of Spencer too.
