I just want to show off my amazing girl

I’m going through a very hard time at the moment mentally, and it’s making me realise just how grateful I am to have Scout. She’s been my best friend for 5 years, and she truly is my soulmate. Even after a long day she’ll always be there, waiting for me. It gives me purpose and a reason to smile and be happy and love, having her who relies on me for basic things, she doesn’t realise how much she does for me.

I have the sweetest girl to look forward to loving every day and I’m so grateful to have that. Dogs are amazing.

Camping and Crying - Advice Needed

We adopted our lovely Foxhound, Cheddar, one year ago. She is the sweetest girl and we love going hiking with her. Before adopting Cheddar, we also used to be avid campers.

We've tried camping twice with Cheddar, and in both instances she had a miserable time. She cries the entire time, paces, and doesn't sleep much. We bring her coolaroo, which she does use, she's on a very long lead we string up between two trees at our campsite, we bring a brand new smoked bone for her to enjoy (which she hardly touches), and we try wearing her out with a long walk with lots of pauses for hound dog sniffs. We've even tried hemp calming treats. Still, lots of cries and the horrible feeling we're torturing her during our single-night camp-out.

Anybody out there with a similar experience but were able to turn things around? Is this just something that can be solved with more exposure or is it better just to board her when we go camping?

Any feedback is appreciated!

Need to rehome a dog

My friend does not have a reddit account

"1 year old spayed heeler/shepherd/collie mix. Needs a big fenced in yard or a farm. Can be reactive but honestly needs more time love and training than can be given."

She's super sweet and energetic, and loves dearly. She loves standing up and "hugging" you and licking your face and is so sweet.

She needs to be rehomed because the current place they are in is not working with having her.

Rehome fee does apply

She's in the Puget Sound region.

Beagle Passing - Grief and Blue Light

Yesterday, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our 14-year-old beagle, Holly, to sleep. We knew she wasn’t doing well, but we had no idea that day would be her last.

The night before, my dad witnessed something really strange. While Holly was sleeping, a blue light suddenly appeared directly above her. He described it as almost like a portal opening, expanding to about 10 inches across. It was completely filled with blue light and then simply disappeared. He said he felt peaceful rather than frightened and has never experienced anything like it before.

The next morning, Holly took a significant turn for the worse. My dad said he could just tell something had changed, almost like she had given up and was ready to go. We made the decision to put her to sleep about 16 hours after he saw the light.
I’ve been reading about shared death experiences and spiritual transitions, and I’m really curious about what he witnessed.

Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly seeing a blue light or portal near a loved one (human or animal) shortly before they passed? I’d love to hear personal experiences or spiritual interpretations.

Also, our dog Angel was 16 and passed 8 months and a day before Holly - Angel was a beagle mix. When she passed, I was especially distraught and asked her to send me a sign - I asked for a blue angel. A few days later, I saw a blue angel statute. In my heart, I hope it was sweet Angel coming to guide Holly. 🦋🐶🤍🦋

Also, any advice on how to help my parents grieve? They say they never want a dog again which just hurts me to my core. Also, any good beagle rescued we can support in Holly and Angel’s names?

My baby died alone in recovery after a dental cleaning. I feel like I betrayed her.

I adopted my sweet Penny (14, female) over 7 years ago. This past year has been tough. We lost her brothers and gained a new sister. Penny had a neck injury that caused paralysis in her back legs and bladder.

We did accupuncture biweekly, did strength exercises and targeted massages, changed our diet and even got a wheelchair to assist, things were actually looking up.

Unfortunately, I came back from a short vacation and she had a tooth root abscess. She was handling the antibiotics well and I dropped her off yesterday morning for her cleaning and extraction. At noon I got the call that she didn’t make it out of recovery.

Her pre-bloodwork was perfect and she did great during the surgery. But her heart gave out in recovery and she did not make it. They said they did everything they could.

I didn’t get to say goodbye. 7 years of love and adventure and her being there for me and I couldn’t be there for her. I feel so broken. I feel like I betrayed my best friend in her final moments. She meant everything to me and I failed her.

I’ve lost 4 babies in the past 15 months. I work full-time in animal protection, I know I’m not a terrible person. But why? Why my babies?? I feel like someone put a curse on me. I also can’t help but be mad at the vet. I’ve lost two dogs there in just a few months..idk it’s probably just the emotions and needing to place anger somewhere.

Penny, I’m so sorry mama. I love you and will honor you through compassion and love for the rest of my life 💔

EDIT OF THANKS: To everyone who commented such beautiful, kind words, you have no idea how much this is helping me during these early days of grief. Thank you all so much. Penny was so loved and always will be. She gave me purpose for so long and comforted me through all the hard times. She taught me what love and patience means. I will continue to rescue babies, when I’m ready, but to have the love and support from this community of hound lovers is truly healing right now ❤️‍🩹 thank you all.

Zoomies at the rainbow bridge

My Adora Belle crossed the rainbow bridge on Saturday. She was 9 years old, my best friend, and I miss her terribly. She loved to go for runs and walks and we went out every single day, sometimes for long runs or sometimes short sniffaris. We did cross country road trips together. She was such a good girl despite the fact that she would have sold me in a heartbeat for a piece of cheese. As a younger dog, like clockwork at 16:30 she’d come running into my office and bork and bork until I’d get up and follow her into the garden where she’d zoom and zoom until the bee in her bonnet had settled down.

I hope she’s found all the hounds that crossed the bridge before her and they’re having the best game of bork and zoom and creating the kind of pandemonium that hounds seem to have a knack for.

These are my first and last pictures of her. Give your hounds an extra hug today.

My boy was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive oral cancer. The prognosis is very poor. He is 9 this month and this will be his last birthday with us. 💔

My sweet Charles. He is as loving as he is beautiful.
