Hi everyone,

I hope this is the correct place to ask for some help with a French window. Since I haven’t succeed at finding other Reddit posts with my issue and type of window, here we are.

For starters, I have no idea how old the building is. The window is in my room, and I get cold at night :(

I will be sharing more videos of the window in question and another window (same brand) that actually works.

What I have done so far:
-Clean the frame/where the locks are. There was dust and webs everywhere.
-Put some oil into the locks or whatever name the sliding things have.
-Check for differences between the working window and my broken window. (The working one is dirtier and has almost the same defects…)

Broken window description:
The brand is named Pidosan… and when I searched for it I found a Turkish site? Idk, the brand name has the same font so.

What, I believe, seems to be broken/malfunctioning, is the knob. When I turn the knob for the working window it feels easy to turn. With the broken one, I feel like it’s a bit stuck/feels weird when I turn it.

The black plastic frame, I think it’s the seal of the window? (Sorry, cannot name it in English), it’s loose in the left side.

It is impossible for me access this window from outside: I hope you can get why from the videos, I’m terrible with explanations.

The locks, the little things that lock the window, are synchronized but I don’t know, something feels off.

Lastly, I’m in France, how come I’m freezing? What if I told you I used to feel cold in Argentinian summers?-

I can't loosen this sucker! I've tried gripping it with my bare hand, a latex glove, and a rubber jar opener. The circuit breaker is off, but I'm hesitant to try pliers or any kind of lubricant. If you look above the glass, you can see one of the other four sockets, which I had no problem removing the o-ring from. Any thoughts?

This is what I used as lubricant and to give you an idea of the logistics of me trying to do this on a ladder with one hand.

I'd never seen this or a thermal camera up close before so impressing me might be a pretty low bar. I have a leak in a cold water pipe near the base of my shower in a solid concrete wall. It is just a tiny leak. Before the plumbers come in (tomorrow) the leak detector guy redirected the hot water into the cold water pipe and used the thermal camera to see where the cold water pipe stopped getting warmer. Apparently it stops flowing at the leak and doesn't heat up the pipe, blocked by the tap, by dispersing the existing cold water.

It was amazing the leak lit up like a beacon.

In a prior leak this same guy about 15 years ago used nitrogen injected under pressure to listen for the leak. 

Now the plumbers don't have to dig out more than they have to. I was even more impressed when he fired up ChatGPT (free version) and dictated his report and had it send an invoice and photos in no more than 5 minutes. He said it saves him half a days work each week. When I saw this guy do that I realised what a game changer AI will be.

Then probably for my amusement he had AI rework the report to make it more technical sounding. My response was something to the effect "You can't send bullshit like that out."

Looks like water has been running around the corner of the house. What layer am I looking at here?

I used to mentally lump book nooks and miniature houses together because, well, tiny rooms are tiny rooms. Then I started thinking about where they actually go. A book nook makes sense as a narrow scene tucked between books. A miniature house wants its own little bit of shelf or tabletop space, especially if you want to see more than the front. It sounds painfully obvious written out, but the display location was what finally made the difference click for me.

Can anybody tell me what these water marks are from? For context we had heavy rain on Sunday and they are now on our ceiling. Right outside of this corner are two meeting gutters. There is nothing in them. There also is a roof valley. We went in our attic while it was raining and there is no water coming in anywhere. I also included I picture of the inside of our attic. We don’t see anything wrong with our roof from the outside as well can anyone help? We can’t afford to have someone come out

I’m looking for an air purifier for my small bedroom (12 m²).

While researching, I came across Levoit’s air purifiers. I found the Core 300S for €102 and the Core 200S for €82.

My budget is pretty limited, so I’m wondering whether it’s worth spending the extra €20, especially since my room isn’t very large.

What do you think?

Had my ceiling repaired almost two years ago because of cracking and movement. Now the bowing is starting to appear in the new ceiling with no cracking. There’s a bedroom above the room, and no signs of water damage. Any insight on why this may be happening? How concerned should I be? Thank you in advance for any help and advice!

These two categories can look pretty similar online, but they solve different display problems. A book nook is made for the narrow space between books, so you mostly view the scene from the front. A miniature house is usually freestanding, which can make the side details and overall footprint more important. That difference feels more useful than asking which category is “better.” If the finished project is definitely going on a shelf, would you choose between a book nook and a miniature house mainly based on where the scene will be viewed from?

I'm worried the wood will rot and I will have to replace the entire deck.

Sorry the video is so quiet :’) it’s is an exterior wall, I heard the noise for about a few minutes straight before it stopped, and it occasionally comes back for a few seconds. Googled it and found it could be an electrical issue which is making me very nervous!!! :’D I’ve never heard this noise before

Trying to decide between black, estate gray, brownwood, or teak or something else. Leaning between brownwood or teak but unsure if it would make it dated. If we do the shingles brown would replace garage door to look brown as well since its damaged. This is southwest Texas where it stays pretty hot. Color options owens corning

One of these small cylinders (in the middle) makes a super loud knocking sound whenever the heating is on. It wasn't like this last weeks, but here it is again. My housing company doesn't respond to tenants at all, but even if I find someone it's going to be on Monday and I'm pretty sure they'll take weeks to actually do anything. Can I fix it myself? How?

It's a typical underfloor heating, just like in every apartment.
