Other Interior Room White should I do with the walls?

Thumbnail gallery

This room is a central walkway in the house and has no natural light. EVERYTHING is pine, and it's a bit too much.

My main idea to improve the room is to paint the walls but not the doors, stairs or baseboards. But I cannot seem to decide on a color, or even whether to choose something lighter or darker. I'm wondering if some kind of gray-purple would create a subtle contrast to the yellow/orange/brown from the floor, doors and brick corner. My favourite colour is green, but we already painted an adjacent room green.

The first 4 pictures show the room, the last ones are some colours I'm considering. The ceiling in another room has the same kind of panels with a whiter varnish (?) over to make it lighter but keep the wood visible

What would you do?

P.S. ignore the wall art, I know it's random and mismatched. Since moving in a year ago this room has become the place to put stuff we don't want or have room for elsewhere. That will change in time.

Edit: sorry for misspelling What in the title!

Bedroom Help! Awkward Corner in Bedroom

I’ve been in this room for about a year now and this corner has always bugged me. I feel like I’m wasting a lot of space with how I have things setup so I’m looking for suggestions!
I made a layout that’s relatively close to the actual dimensions.
The pictures attached were from before I moved, we were just using it as storage but I kept the closet thing behind the door in the second picture.

Other Interior Room Coat nook in entryway

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

We have this interesting nook just past the hallway in our entryway. My plan is to board and batten at least the back wall, then add a built-in bench to sit on, a shelf above, and of course some coat hooks. The storage under the bench won’t be split as it is now, because I’d like to be able to put my large bags there (work/diaper/purse). I’m planning to paint the board and batten to match our shoe cabinet (pictured) and use the same finish of coat hooks (heritage brass) as well. I’m still undecided as to whether I’ll leave the wall above as-is (bungalow beige according to color match) or maybe do a wallpaper.

My question is: do I wrap the board and batten on the side walls as well, or leave it to just the back wall? I think it would look more “nook” wrapped, but as you can see one wall sticks out more than the other and I wonder if that would end up awkward. Thanks in advance.

Dining Room What would you do with this built-in?

When we moved into our home about 6 years ago, we painted this navy accent wall but left the built-in untouched. I haven’t really paid attention to it for a few years and all of a sudden I have a powerful urge to do something very cool with it color-wise and refinish / paint it as a project this winter. I love the deep blue color on the wall and would like to play off that. I’m not afraid of bold color but don’t want it to feel cheap or trendy. I’m also aware we need to seriously clear some of the clutter, but you can see some of the punchy colors I love in items on the shelf; much of that color and those items will stay. Would love input and help!

Living Room Desperately need help for this awkward living room !!

This room is driving me insane. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve just given up on attempting to make the space make sense. It feels impossible. We have the awkward, oversized couch that just doesn’t fit, but my husband is struggling to part with. The fire place is GIANT compared to the rest of the space, and for some reason it’s in the corner of the room?? The treadmill/clutter corner are items we are getting rid of, so that opens some space. The room is a bit too big to be just a living room, but too small to be a living/dining room (not even considering the carpet issue). Unfortunately, we are renting so our option are limited.

I desperately need help figuring out this space. I want it to be cozy, as we are a small 1940s cabin in the pnw woods. I LOVE authentic mid century/40s/50s/60s style.

I’m open to reorganizing the space, cleaning out furniture/getting new furniture, and overall redecorating. My husband insists that the tv remain on top of the fireplace, regardless of the fact that it’s 100% too big and tv too high. I could convince him to move it if it makes sense, but I don’t think I could convince him to downsize.

Please help, I’m going crazy with this layout.

Also: please ignore the water stains on the couch, the upholstery/carpet cleaner exploded while cleaning recently.

I can attach more photos with better lighting if necessary!! Thank you in advanced!!

Living Room How to place my furniture

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

First picture is a concept with the furniture I already own. What are some other options to place all the furniture. The doors at the top open outwards, left door before the right door.

The second picture is different idea.

I struggle the most with the couch and the dinertable. The closet in the bottem right is the space necessary for the dogcrate. The couch visible in the bottom is roughly the shape of the kitchen, so we exit the kitchen on the left next to the wall.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Home Office Space Dark brown or white office

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am doubting about what colour bookcase and desk to buy. We like the nature/academic/botanist vibe but we are afraid the small room will get too dark if both bookcase and desk are walnut brown...on the other hand mixing the wood colours also seems messy. Also the dark brown on the white back wall seems a big contrast, but there is an option to paint the backwall also in the same green as the wall on the right. Some key contrete doubts we have that we would love feedback on:

- Should the bookcase be dark brown (walnut) or white?

-In case walnut brown bookcase should the desk be same dark walnut brown or lighter oak/white?

-In addition, it is an option paint the back wall in same green as the wall on the right side. Is that nicer?

Thanks!

Bedroom What do I do with this ceiling?

The ceiling in my bedroom has this coffin shaped recess with what appears to be 3 layers of trim on top of it. What, if anything, can be done to improve this? I really like boho and warm but modern style interior design. Open to any suggestions, though.

Bedroom Rugs? Colors? This grey is killing me.

Thumbnail gallery

Moved in a few months ago and I'm struggling with what kind of rug(s) to put in my bedroom/office. I'm thinking olive green or burgundy/red wine sheets and drapes for the window. Hang some of the plants and get some more and move the thing in front of the window for a little reading nook with plants.

My problem is I don't know what shape the rug or rugs should take. The main part of the room is 16x10 and the window bumpout is about 4 ish feet.

Any other recommendations/critiques are welcome as well!

Living Room Looking for ideas for long living room

Picture taken from the bedroom doorway!

First real apartment and I'm struggling to get this living room to shape up into something cozy. First, it's \~21'x11' as a rough estimate, which has made filling up the space rather difficult. The east wall is made up of sliding glass doors, which I've put sage green curtains over, and lets in decent light during the day. More lighting is still TBD, but I did buy a paper lantern to be hung over an eventual reading nook (using the current shelves).

I was thinking of moving the couch and television towards the patio doors, and putting a cream colored, oversized chair in the corner where the fake plant currently resides. The shelves are fine for now and may be moved into the bedroom if I find a better bookshelf. I do tend towards more neutral colors than the mustards/blues I've seen with other greener living rooms. Also, it's a rental, so I can't change the walls or carpeting!

I'm open to any suggestions!

**edit: I would definitely like this room to be sectioned off into reading corner and tv corner. Another picture posted in the replies; I have a desk+dining area set up elsewhere.

Living Room Please help, I don't know where to start

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I've moved into a family member's home to help out with an unforeseen circumstance, and I'm struggling to figure out what to do here. I like my furnishings, and they made sense in my previous space (which was bright, open, airy, and benefited greatly from outside scenery), but I don't know how to help them make sense here.

The living room is north facing and receives very little natural light. I know the couch is too big and too dark for the space; the living room couch I had previously was sleeker, but it was unfortunately too long for the space at all. I've thus ended up with my basement couch in my living room.

I don't want to get rid of this couch too, because I don't know how long I'll be here. I've looked into swapping out the covers to something lighter (it's a Lovesac), but the cost to do so these days is more than what I paid for the whole couch a few years ago.

I feel very stuck .. but I'm willing to paint, add or change or adjust furnishings and lighting, reorganize the furniture, even more seriously tackle retiling the fireplace.

I'm open to and would be so appreciative of any recommendations that might help me figure out how to start making this feel more like home.

My parents insist that my brother and I share the same room colour so we settled on Royal Blue paint. I'll also take the camera on the top right corner down. I'm also going to be adding LED strips to the room. I’ll also switch the bed and mattresses. Will change the curtains to a thicker bigger dark blue curtain.

Bedroom Need ideas to refresh my bedroom without moving the main furniture

Thumbnail gallery

I've lived in the same room at my parents' house my whole life, and I'm starting to feel like I need a change. Everything has felt pretty much the same for years, and I'd like to make the room feel like a fresh space again, somewhere more comfortable and enjoyable to spend time in.

I've taken photos from two opposite corners of the room, plus some shots of the desk with both natural lighting and the lights on.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • I can't really move the big furniture around (bed, desk, wardrobe, etc.).
  • My budget is around €200-300 if required.
  • I'm open to removing things, rearranging smaller items, changing the lighting, adding decorations, or making more significant changes.
  • I barely use the second monitor anymore, and honestly haven't missed it much over the last six months, so I'm open to getting rid of it if that would help.

I'm not sure what the room is missing, so I'd love some outside perspective. I'm open to changing the overall feel of the room, not just adding decorations or buying a few new things.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestions, even if they sound a bit unrealistic at first. Feel free to point out things you'd remove, change, or do completely differently.

Tyyy

Living Room Living room redesign

I am looking to redesign my living room and add more seating space. The space is combined with the dining room so the shape of the room is a big L. If I moved the tv to the side with the couch and added a sectional on the opposite wall extending under the window would that look ok. I have never owned a sectional couch. Sometimes when I sit on other people’s sectional couches I feel they do not actually offer as much space as it seems without sitting on top of each other. I would appreciate everyone’s assistance with design ideas. TIA!

Bedroom Help with room design

Hello reddit, I hope this is the correct subreddit to ask this question and get answers, if not please can you point me to the correct subreddit?

I have my bedroom that has, at the moment, the following layout.
it's quite liveable as I don't have many furnishings inside, but I kinda feel like there are dead spaces that aren't being utilized at the best of their capability.

I have marked the outlets and the internet modem exit (the big triangle on the top west corner of the room).
Almost anything can be moved except for the bed that can't be put "head side" on the south side of the windows, because then the window will not open anymore.

The big square above the bed is a bird cage, it can be moved but must stay in the room somewhere.

Other Interior Room Need help with entry way.

This is the entry to our house that leads into the living room. The built-in makes it difficult to know where the division of rooms is. Should we keep the entry and living room the same color or can we choose multiple complementary paint colours? We're planning on painting both rooms.
