Living Room 650 sq ft with a baby help!

We are in 650 sq ft and expecting a baby in 6ish weeks. I love our house and the space has worked really well for just us but with a baby coming, I’m wondering if we have too much “decor” and not enough storage solutions. Regarding our bedroom, I think we’re set but I thought I’d include photos anyway. We have a sidecar mini crib that will fit well but open to any suggestions for the bedroom as well!

Budget is semi tight, so would love options of storage things I could get on marketplace or Ikea.

Things to be done
1. Curtains
2. Rug under bed
3. 3 wall lights
4. Two hanging light over side tables

What types of light should I go for?

My dad thinks the tv wall is very empty and is insisting me to add a console under it but I thinks it’s fine what should I do with the empty space?

Should I add a poster above the wall? Or just leave it as it is?

Something feels empty in the room please do share what should I add or change.

Bathroom Tiles - yay or nay?

Hey all, trying to get some opinions on this bathroom. We have a small budget (around 1000 euros) to renovate/change up some things to make it look cohesive and a bit more modern.

We're not sure if we should keep the white sink and remove the tiles (or paint over them), and have a modern look - or keep the tiles and change the color of the fixtures to have a upgraded vintage look. The floor tiles cannot be changed :(

Do you have any ideas? What are your opinions?

Living Room Where should the TV go - alcove or chimney breast?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I'm planning to get a new TV, but can't decide where would be the best place to put it.

Alcove: I'm going to get an inbuilt cabinet and shelves in the alcove, so if the TV goes there I'd get the cabinet built lower and it would sit on top of it. The alcove is relatively narrow so would fit a maximum 40" TV. Obviously I'd move the table, wall art and plant.

Chimney breast: alternatively, I could take down the mirror and shelf from the chimney breast and wall mount the TV there, or have it on top of a TV console. This would allow for a slightly bigger screen, and it would sit a little closer to where the sofa is.

I don't necessarily love the idea of a big TV being the focal point of the room, but I wonder if it might just look a bit small in the alcove.

Would love to get people's thoughts on this, with the priority being the aesthetic of the room. So please chime in if you have a design eye!

Thanks!

Kitchen How can I make my kitchen feel cozy and more intentionally designed?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I could really use some fresh eyes on my kitchen because I feel like I’ve reached the point where I can’t tell what’s working and what isn’t anymore!

My style is pretty minimalist, but I still want my kitchen to feel warm, cozy, and lived-in. Right now, I feel like everything looks a little too carefully placed and almost like a museum display, rather than a space that feels natural and cohesive? The open shelves are really bothering me. Something just feels off but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.

I’ve been trying to style with things I already own, but I keep second-guessing the placement of everything. Sometimes it feels too cluttered, and other times it feels too bare or like things are just sitting there without really belonging.

Would love suggestions using the items I already have (what to move, remove, group together, or rearrange etc)
I’m open to honest feedback! If something isn’t working, I’d genuinely love to know why. I think I just need an outside perspective to help me see the space differently
Thank you!!

Hiii, I’m moving into a new house. Pleaseee help me decorate. Starting from scratch. So far I’m set on a corner where I want to read and an arched full length mirror and a double bed. Walls are going to be white with dark oak floors. I’ve attached some things I like the look of but I wouldn’t know how to go about bringing it to life. I also have a budget for £1000 for room decor. Also pls help me figure out how I should go about my furniture placement. Any and all help is much appreciated.

Living Room Repainting & furnishing a small, low-ceilinged Victorian terrace with brown uPVC frames I can’t change. Would love your thoughts on where the colour should go.

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Hello all. I’ve been staring at tester cards and Reddit threads for weeks and I think I’ve talked myself round in circles, so I’d be really grateful for some outside eyes, on colours and on furniture.

The house: a 2-bed Victorian end-terrace in the south west of the UK. Ceilings are low, about 2.2–2.3 m, with Artex. The catch is that every window frame and the conservatory doors are dark rosewood uPVC and can’t be painted. All the skirting, architraves and doors are varnished brown and will be painted.

Style I’m after: light Scandi-cottage, warm and calm, natural wood, rattan, a bit of mountain personality (ski posters, a snowboard), nothing cold or grey.

My plan so far: one warm off-white through the whole house (F&B Wimborne White or Dulux Timeless, and how on earth do people decide when everything is so similar?), ceilings a touch lighter, and I’d like to bring in a grey-green somewhere, probably F&B Mizzle, Cromarty or Dulux Heritage Sage Green. Doors and architraves the same off-white in eggshell unless you talk me out of it.

Living room: 4 × 3.6 m, light from one side window plus borrowed light through a conservatory with an opaque roof, so it’s on the dim side. Staying: a teal sofa with mustard and burnt-orange cushions, honey oak floor, a rattan TV unit with a 65" TV, a light-wood coffee table, the ski posters.

Where I’d love love love your advice:

  1. Two-tone or not. For some reason I have a two-tone wall in my head, because the ceiling is low and I’m trying to open the room up. I’m picturing the grey-green on the TV wall and the two short returns, stopping at the door frames either side, with the sofa wall plain off-white. Would you do that as a band up to about 1/3ish with the off-white above, or go full height on those three sections? I really can’t decide. Is two-tone even nice - my friend said it'll be good for my living room and I can't shake the idea!? The thought is the TV cutting the band in half and it looking great.
  2. Skirting. If it’s a band, would you paint the skirting in the band colour, or keep it the same off-white as the rest of the house? I quite like the idea of off-white skirting throughout, but I’m not sure it works under a coloured band. But if the skirting is coloured - when it meets the door frame won't it look weird?
  3. Doors. Paint them the same off-white as the walls is the current plan. Any ideas?
  4. Around the TV. I’m planning a plant to the right of the TV, a ladder shelf to the left and a floating shelf above the TV. Does that work with a two-tone wall, or does it get busy? Would you skip the shelf above the TV? Pictures in frames above the sofa and all around.
  5. The rest of the room. I need a second seat (the sofa only takes two or three), a big floor lamp, and some storage on the wall between the living room and kitchen, ideally an asymmetric bookshelf with closed boxes at the bottom. Probably oak everything - thats the plan in my head.
  6. The frames. Does a warm off-white next to these rosewood frames look intentional to you, or would you push the walls warmer or deeper?

Bedroom: 2.6 × 3 m with a wardrobe recess, east-facing window so it does get morning light, dusty blue upholstered headboard, striped bedding. Opposite the bed is a sliding wardrobe with mirrored doors; the mirrors are small squares at the moment, which I hate, and I plan to change them to full-length panels. Carpet is tired and will be replaced.

  1. Colour. One Stiffkey Blue wall behind the bed, or soft Cromarty? Does a dark wall behind the bed still make sense when the wall opposite is going to be full-height mirror?
  2. Above the bed. I’m torn between a long horizontal painting above the headboard and a shelf. Which would you do in a room this size?
  3. Light. I thought about a mirror on the wall the morning light hits, to throw it round the room. Good idea, or too many mirrors once the wardrobe doors are done?
  4. Wardrobe frame. When I swap the square mirror panes for full-length ones, what frame colour would you go for: white, oak, black or something else? Inside i'm going to build a PAX IKEA type structure - currently just has my chest of draws in it.

My second bedroom (office) and hallway i'm planning to just do the offwhite colour - my living room is my conservatory so I cant paint that as its either than uPVC brown colour or brickwork. I also have window sills that brown colour i shall be painting the offwhite too.

I’m trying to avoid grey, very bright white or anything that makes a low room feel lower. If you’ve lived with brown frames or a low ceiling and found something that worked, I’d love to hear it. Thank you so much in advance, this sub has already taught me a lot.

Bedroom How do I avoid this room feeling claustrophobic?

Post image
• Upvotes

The rectangle in the middle is the bed. On the right is space for the wardrobe.

I’ve measured the space and the drawers should open, it’ll just be very tight. I’ll be using ‘hospital curtains’ instead of wardrobe doors. The photo is cut off where the left hand wall is.

I’m worried the space will feel claustrophobic because it’ll be such a large piece of furniture very close to the bed.

Thoughts?

Need help deciding how to hide the router and maybe liven up the room a bit. It is a rental so I cannot go overboard with driliing holes. Currently I have the tv on a stand with wheels that I swivel to be able to see from the dining table.
I would like to hide the router without taking up to much space so I have free room to do home workouts.
Also wonder if there is any way to take advantage of the far end window space.

We just renovated our apartment in mainland Greece and I need to dress the walls. The apartment gets LOTS of natural light, so I'm not afraid of dark colors and I prefer bold colors. But what I'm drawn to may not fit our space. I've attached pics of the rooms and art I like. Curious to hear your thoughts, Reddit!

Living Room Starting fresh

I’m looking for living room staples, and I’d love to hear outside perspectives. I’m not looking for detailed pieces yet, just tackling the basics. If it helps, I included links and photos of what I’ve found I’ve liked. In my research I did tend to like bohemian, japandi, and warm wood tones, but hey, I’m so open to fresh takes.

  1. Couch - round/curved element nice to have, left chaise, deep cushions, comfy.
  2. Entertainment stand - I’m leaning toward fluted style. Ideally plenty of storage.
  3. Coffee table - on the fence between a regular coffee table and a coffee table with storage.
  4. Computer desk - straight, not an L shaped. Not sure if I should get one with storage or a simple standing desk. Theres more wall space to the right of the window on the back wall which is where the desk would go.
  5. Dining room table (ignore the drum kit) - partner is insisting on a dining room table lol. Something about it being practical. A 2 seater is plenty.

Living Room looking for rug/color recommendations

Last picture is the rug I'm considering. I'm looking to add some more color to my living room but I'm unsure if the colors would work well or if the tones would clash. I really like the cozy olive/terracotta vibe that I often see in MCM interiors but my blocky stone grey furniture is really throwing me for a loop.

Living Room Living room artwork?

The current state of my living room is that I am missing wall art. I wanted to do a gallery wall over my desk, but the problem I am running into is that its a really small space (desk is 52" wide) and I like too much art. It seems like for that size space I'd probably only be able to use 3-4 things, and my top 3 that I was feeling tied to are all portrait orientation. My initial thought had been gallery above the desk and big same sized cyanotypes above the couch. The reason was that the desk is opposite wall of the shelves so I thought I'd keep the business opposite, plus the small size made the task of making the gallery wall seem easier.

Is a gallery wall above the couch a poor choice? I also added the artwork Im considering, and curious thoughts on those items? Anything you'd add or subtract? Or something entirely different I'm not thinking of?

As a side note the couch and end tables I do want to replace. We want to go with a straight couch thats got a taller back and reclines, probably in a dark grey color. Im imagining that may affect the choices made.

Potential gallery art selection

Living Room Two years DIY renovating my old New England cottage but making the space feel like a cozy, lived in home is what's finally breaking me. 😂 Help!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Two years ago, I bought my dream home, an old family homestead in crazy rough shape. I've spent the last two years busting my ass DIYing all the unsexy stuff to bring it back to life. Finally getting to the fun, aesthetic stuff, only to discover I have ZERO design ability and apparently crippling indecision. 😂 I am desperate to start making this space feel like a lived in home.

The space: Two connected, north-facing rooms (living room -front and future office -back). Looking for one wall color for both rooms since they share a long wall. Not opposed to accent walls. Open to stairwell being a different color. Door color? Trim? Everything is primer white.

The vibe: Scandinavian-inspired with cottage charm. Cozy!!!, simple, lived in but uncluttered. Bright and airy, but not stark or sterile. A little rustic, a little modern. Did I mention cozy?? Like cold winter day, curled up with fuzzy blankets, and the woodstove fire for ambience. I love light natural wood, stone, textured fabrics, and greenery. Pops of color.

The struggle: Finding a color palette for this space that keeps these north-facing rooms feeling bright and airy as much as possible without looking cold or washed out. The rooms usually have less natural light. Winters are often dark, gloomy, and snowy and they are looooong where I live. Reds and yellows are a hard no. I tried 6 or 7 sage samples but didn't like them. Open to ideas from neutrals to fun colors.

Both rooms are a blank slate as far as color, furnishings, or decor. I literally have nothing 😂 I will be buying a sectional for the living room. Grey tends to be my go-to but other fabric color ideas welcome. Rugs. I will have shades/blinds. Not sure if I'll do a bamboo or fabric shade. I hate curtains.

Only other thing that may be worth mentioning is that I have 2 big dogs that constantly make things like rugs dirty. We live on acreage and live a very indoor/outdoor life and the dogs are in and out constantly and are total slobs. But they are loves. Plus, I heat solely with wood so that's kinda messy. So basically design needs to consider how easily it is to keep clean because I love a clean, organized house but don't have the time to spend hours cleaning everyday.

Thanks for any help and ideas!

Living Room Need advice for how to flair my living room

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I’ve lived in this apartment for a little over a year now and have struggled with decorating my living room (see pics). The big issue is that above my fireplace I have this giant empty nook meant for a TV. When I moved in I didn’t want my TV up there as it would require my couch to be angled, and I did not like the layout. I’ve tried searching for things to fill this nook (and to cover my wifi router) but I haven’t had much luck. Canvas pictures that size are ridiculously expensive, and I feel like a tapestry would be tacky. Is there a better way I can utilize this nook? I’ve also debated getting some plants for the tile on my fireplace, but I’m unsure of what looks best. I also feel that my tv wall is kind of bare. I’ve thought about getting square framed album covers to go over my stereo setup, but I’m afraid that will be too tacky. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Living Room Need help designing living room - couch/TV placement?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey all,

Looking to close on a house soon, and my GF and I are having trouble figuring out how to design our living room. We will primarily be using it to watch TV and relax, but can’t figure out where to put the couch and TV that best supports that. We’re looking to get a sectional couch at the moment.

Current best contender is to put the couch against the windows and have the TV mounted on the bathroom wall, but that causes it to be slightly to the right of the couch, and everyone other than the person sitting all the way to the side would have to turn their head.

Any ideas?

Bedroom Help me design my son’s room!

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’d love some advice on how you’d lay out and decorate my son’s bedroom.

The room is approximately 14.8 m² and he currently has a double floor bed. I feel like I haven’t positioned the bed particularly well, and I’m struggling to visualise how to make the room feel cosy and well put together without overcrowding it.

I want it to feel like a lovely little boy’s room but also be something that will grow with him.

I’m open to completely rearranging the furniture, so I’d particularly love suggestions on where you’d position the bed and how you’d use the rest of the space. I’m also unsure about rugs, artwork, storage and whether to create a little reading corner.

I’ve attached a picture of the current floor plan for reference. Any ideas, layouts or inspiration would be very much appreciated!

Bathroom bathroom (2.5m x 3m)

Hi,
I'm redoing the bathroom, ripping everything out and installing a new one.
(so including ceiling, radiator, floor tiles,...)
Finding a good layout seems to be trickier than I anticipated, so I hope you guys can help!
I tried something, but I'm not convinced at all. (see layout A and B).

Some things to take into account: it has to have a toilet, single sink, and walk in shower (so no bathtub) and currently has a connection for the washing machine next to the door.
The connections can probably be moved, but I'm not sure how hard or easy that will be.
