“Despite the show’s budget constraints, no resources are spared in preparation for the sex scenes in Heated Rivalry, which are shot as long takes with minimal coverage. “You have to do that so the audience feels permission to observe them,” Tierney says. “Seeing how one of them backs away a bit, and the other one comes forward, it tells you everything you need to know about that moment.” This makes rewatching the scenes much more interesting, too. “Watch Ilya this time,” he muses. “Next time, watch Shane.”

Tierney is equally thoughtful when asked about Storrie and Williams’s naked bodies going instantly viral amid the two-episode premiere of Heated Rivalry. “The care I take is with Connor and Hudson,” he remarks. “Those are my friends. Those are my wards. I owe them a lot. We’re intertwined. Their wellbeing and safety are very important to me.”

“We just had our intimacy rehearsals for season two,” he adds. “We went through all the stuff that we’re going to go through again, and we try to make sure that they’re really comfortable. They’re still so close, and they’re so game. They love these roles. They love doing it. They understood, from day one, that this is important.”

Tierney admits, “I try to be very conscious that it hasn’t even been a year since this show’s been out, and they’re arguably two of the most famous people in the world. It’s f-cking crazy, and there’s nothing that can prepare you for that. There’s no handbook to it. So, we just check in a lot. ‘You good?’ ‘You need anything?’”

Season 2 🥅 I’ve seen left and right that S2 has the same budget as S1 and I’m happy because

they will look at season 2 with the same precision as season 1 went. I’ve seen so many tv shows with fantastic season 1 and a mid to low season 2 after.

Reasons as to why it works:
• They will obviously look at the story and decide which scenes/plotlines/subplot will work and thus not add not any unnecessary scenes to fluff up the minutes. As evidenced by season 1, every scene worked right.
• Bigger budget can also mean new lighting, grander scale of locations, thus losing the vibe of season 1. For some shows it works in favor of it. Like Game of Thrones because you need to expand the scope. But small budget means that they choose the set deliberately and get much more out of it. We can’t forget the Russian monologue in that place. It’s such a simple place but it took on a different level when combined with good script.
• More money also means more people to answer to the detriment of the storyline or the cast.

And I can keep going and going on as why it should not. Do you think the same as me and if not, tell me why?

DISCUSSION 🗣️ Shane’s Sponsorships

I grew up casually with hockey, as you do in Canada, and I’ve been following it a bit more closely in the past couple of years thanks to a mixture of living in a city where NHL games are more affordable than Montreal and Heated Rivalry (of course!).

Can a more involved fan point out to me a recent (or HR timeline compliant) real-world equivalent of Shane’s sponsorships? Like good brands. Because all I see on my feeds right now is Suzuki advertising an insurance company, or Demidov selling an obscure brand of underwear, and I’m just wondering how common Shane’s situation would be. I think I can remember PK Subban lending his face to charity campaigns as well, but the only athlete I remember ever seeing in an actually lucrative ad was an Olympic diver for McDonald’s.

(Guess where I grew up 😂)
