Anyone who follows Rockford want to weigh in? It seems slightly concerning that after six games, Boisvert, Vanacker, and Spellacy have no points, and Commesso has an .865 save percentage. Even Slaggert, who ought to be too good for this level, only has 2 points in 6 games. Lardis has 2 points in 3 games, which seems fine, although if he's meant to be learning to defend better, I'm a little concerned about who he's meant to be learning from. The only bright spots among actual prospects seem like Felcman, with 4 points in 6 games so far, and Berezhnoy, with a .937 sv%. (Did Ludwinski get hurt again?)

I know the team's defense is pretty dire - is there any hope for improvement at all this year?

CHICAGO — Artyom Levshunov had no idea what he was thinking Thursday as he leaped toward Patrick Kane after scoring the overtime game-winning goal against the Winnipeg Jets.

“I don’t know. I’m just excited, so happy,” the 20-year-old Levshunov explained the day after.

Kane knew exactly what he was thinking. He had to get out of the way.

“I was hoping nobody noticed me kind of backing off him,” Kane said. “But you see a truck like that coming in, obviously, I’m not gonna try and catch him, right? That would be a bad decision.”

Kane made the better decision. Instead of moving up and attempting to grab the 208-pound Levshunov from the air, Kane, 176 pounds, drifted back, let Levshunov hover for a moment and drop back to the ice before joining him.

No hard feelings from Levshunov. He wasn’t banking on Kane catching him. Also, nothing can really knock Levshunov down from the high of his goal-scoring celebrations. Over his three-year NHL career, his celebrations have become renowned. His outward joy for not only his goals but his teammates’ is unmatched. From his wide smile to the way he skates with enthusiasm to the puck to how he seems to be attempting to hug four people at the same time, it’s as if every Chicago Blackhawks goal Levshunov is on the ice for is his first.

“It’s pretty funny how excited he gets,” Blackhawks captain Connor Bedard said. “But it’s good. That’s what you want — people to enjoy it and be having fun with it.”

Bedard just came back, and the offense looks worlds better than the first 5 games. Nazar and Moore were all over the ice. The Frondell line looks good. They also missed a few great chances. Now, we need to work on getting that D cleaned up. But, with this offense, they can cover for the D a lot of nights. Also, Knight was incredible. Great game!

At 08:11 of the first period, C. Bedard fired one home from the high slot on the power play, and the Blackhawks went in front 1-0. At 15:10 of the first period, F. Nazar got a wrist shot through from the circle, and the Blackhawks created some breathing room at 2-0. 1:47 later, N. Pionk leaned into a big shot from the point, and the Jets cut the deficit to one. Only 14 seconds later, R. Donato let a shot go that beat the goalie from the low circle, and the Blackhawks doubled the advantage to 3-1.

Early in the second period, K. Connor fired one home from the low circle on the power play, and the Jets drew within a goal at 3-2.

At 05:39 of the third period, A. Iafallo steered a shot-pass into the net from the doorstep, and a 2-0 game was suddenly tied 3-3.

At 01:37 of overtime, A. Levshunov ripped one past the goalie from the high slot, and that settled the game for the Blackhawks.

The Jets carried a 66-47 edge in shot attempts and a 18-12 edge in close-range shots on goal, but the Blackhawks made more of their chances. The Jets rang two shots off the iron. The physical game tilted toward the Jets, who held a 34-19 advantage in hits.

Patrick Kane Appreciation Post

Back in 2016 I worked at Ogilvie and there was a guy that parked a big van out front on Madison. He would give people rides to the UC for $10 a person and had a huge cooler of beer in the back. The beer came with the $10 ride so you could usually slam a few, saving you money at the game.

I only worked at Ogilvie for a few years so I’m not sure if it’s still a thing.

The Blackhawks are the new Lineal Champions of the NHL!

I made a site that tracks an unofficial NHL Lineal Shield, where the holder keeps it until they lose, like a boxing title.

It adds some stakes to random games, and Chicago took it from the Penguins with a 5-3 win! If you like weird sports stats you might like it.

Second win of the season, already champions. Efficient.

I did a couple things different here. First, I looked just going into the third period. So blowing leads, or coming back from a deficit in the third.

Then I looked at this controlling for team quality. Not in the worlds most rigorous way, just imagine this scenario:

1. You play 100 games, and in 35 of them you enter the third behind
2. You win 9 of the 35, which is 26%. Is that good or bad?
3. Well, in your other 65 games you took about 78% of the points, and other teams in the league at that level come back from trailing at 15%, which is ~5 games.
4. Therefore, you make come backs a bit more than expected, 4 more times than expected.
5. Over the five and change seasons, anything within about 9 games of expectation is normal variation

I think this gives a much more interesting picture of teams that make come backs and blow leads, irrespective of just "good teams good bad teams bad."

BTW, in 465 games the Hawks came back in 20 of 237, expected 23 (-3) and blew 39 of 139 leads, expected 30 (+9). Kinda right on the cusp of blowing more leads than expected lol
