Hello lovely Greekophiles!

If I'm talking about something I don't ever do, for example Ποτέ πίνω κρασί, do I need to slap that negating word δεν in front of it to make sense?

Just making sure I'm not being redundant, or leaving something out.

Thanks, this sub has been terrific answering my Greek language questions, and I really appreciate it!

Howdy everyone! I've been working on my Greek language learning app a lot over the past few weeks and finally have content across all levels from beginner to advanced.

It's still a work in progress but there is a tonne of reading/listening, grammar explanations and exercises, and some games to make practice more engaging.

I built it with myself in mind as I'm an intermediate learner looking to get fluent. I'd love to know if you find it useful!

Σας ευχαριστώ! Να είστε καλά!

Hi! My boyfriend and I are looking for an online Greek teacher for beginner lessons once a week. We’d like to learn together, in English, and arrange the day and time flexibly from week to week because our schedules vary.

Our budget is up to €20 for a 60-minute lesson. Please comment or message me with your availability and rates. Thank you!

My boyfriend is half greek and I want to surprise him by learning to make a 3 course meal for him of traditional greek food, he love his culture so I think he would appreciate it. Im not really sure what to make and I don’t want to ask him because he will know something is up. I also live in Finland and Im a student so my budget is limited and not everything might be accessible.

Thank you in advance.

What does the sea have to do with making a mess?

The Greek expression «Τα έκανε θάλασσα» is a perfect example of how colourful and surprising everyday Greek can be!

But how did the sea become part of this expression?

I was comparing majuscule to minuscule Greek letters and theorized a possible evolution on how the lowercase came about. Nearly every letter has a reasonable change except, Omega.

In Greek inscriptions (on stone), Omega can either be seen as a open-torn O (Ω), or something resembling a "w".

I wanted to find a midpoint in the transition where it looks halfway between the two, but i couldn't. It's either "ω" or "Ω" and they're totally different. (I've also known there's another variant where it looks like an underlined O)

So how did it evolve actually?

15th October edit: Some people think i don't know the difference between uppercase omega and lowercase, I DO KNOW! I'm asking how did Ω evolve into ω since we all know lowercase comes from uppercase but I'm confused why on inscriptions (that usually have just uppercase letters) 'ω' is used? There are also some useful comments I've seen and i gladly appreciate those.

My mom always said τα μάτια σου δεκατέσσερα. Do I tattoo the phrase or 14 eyes? Or 12 because I already have 2. Design ideas?

I wrote this quickly without worrying about how neat my handwriting was. Which letters should I work on improving? Which ones look bad?

Im genieuly curious

I’d love to learn how to write handwritten cursive, but there’s no much sources on internet, can anybody reply with an example of the alphabet in lower and upper case please? 🙏

I often wonder what a good translation for the word "patronizing" is and I am not sure I can find it. You hear it and read it usually in a negative context like "Don't patronize me" but the various translations I find online don't seem satisfying.

The most usual "συγκαταβατικός" usually has a positive meaning in Greek, like someone who is διαλλακτικός and καλόβολος. I don't think I have seen it used in a negative context often. Προστατευτικός is also not it. Maybe χειραγωγώ is closer to it? Would love to read people's thoughts.

Γιατί «τη γυναίκα» είναι σωστό και όχι «την γυναίκα» ;

Hello! I need some assistance translating/identifying the Greek lyrics for a song that corresponds to the Divaratikos dance from Kefalonia. The audio I linked is one I uploaded from a CD my yiayia used to play when I was little. This is one of my most treasured songs from my childhood, so I would love to fully understand what it’s saying (my Greek isn’t advanced enough to understand the full song). While an English translation is very helpful, I’m most in search of the Greek lyrics (virtually non existent online) so I can learn the Greek. Let me know if you can help me out!

Hi, I just learned the Greek alphabet earlier today, what about my handwriting could/should I improve? Any help appreciated! Might be worth nothing that I can't speak Greek at all, I just copied the Wikipedia page about Greece.
