All the sidebar content (including study materials, links etc!) is in this post for easy visibility and access via mobile.
Since ~50% of the sub's traffic comes from mobile devices nowadays, I decided to address the issue of sidebar visibility by stickying its content in the front page.

Classes in English or Greek?
Γεια σας!
question for those of you who have Greek classes. Im now level A1, been doing classes for about A year now. I’ve started with a group class where the teacher spoke mostly Greek. I had no idea what was happening a good chunk of the time, but at the same time appreciated the “immersion”. Now for several reasons I’ve switched to private lessons. I really like my teacher but he mostly speaks in English during the class. It’s easier to follow for sure, but maybe less immersive?
my question is — do you think at a very low level like mine, it is more effective to have classes/lessons taught mostly in Greek with the occasion explanation in English to clarify things, or English as “working language” and Greek only in terms of content?

Η καλή χρήση του γκρίκλις.
Όπως γνωρίζουμε από το σχολείο και από τα τηλεοπτικά κανάλια, εμείς πρέπει να λέμε “όχι” στα γκρίκλις. Εγώ προσωπικά χρησιμοποιούσα τα γκρίκλις πριν από μία ή δύο χρονιές επειδή ενδιαφέρθηκα και επειδή δεν ήξερα πως πρέπει να πληκτρολογώ, διότι νόμιζα ότι υπάρχουν κάποιοι κανόνες στην ορθογραφία και θεωρούσα πως δεν ήξερα τα γκρίκλις. Αλλά, από τη στιγμή που ενδιαφέρθηκα με τα γκρίκλις, σκέφτηκα ότι πάρα να το βλέπουμε σαν πρόβλημα, καλύτερα είναι να το χρησιμοποιήσουμε σαν έναν εργαλείο. Δηλαδή, οι ανθρώποι μπορούν να δημιουργήσουν βιβλία νέων ελληνικών για τους ξένους, όπου κάτω από τις ελληνικές προτάσεις και τις μεταφράσεις τους στη γλώσσα του ξένου, θα υπάρχει και η πρόταση στα γκρίκλις που μπορεί να βοηθήσει τον αναγνώστη να προφέρει καλύτερα την ελληνική πρόταση. Ο λόγος για τον οποίο θεωρώ ότι αυτό θα βοηθήσει είναι διότι πάρα πολλά άτομα γνωρίζουν τα λατινικά γράμματα είτε από τα αγγλικά, είτε από τη γλώσσα τους που χρησιμοποιεί τη λατινική γραφή, είτε για κάποιο άλλο λόγο, άρα υπάρχει μεγάλη πιθανότητα ότι τα γκρίκλις θα βοηθήσουν τον ξένο αναγνώστη. Τι σκέφτεστε εσείς για την άποψή μου;

Beginner to Greek
Γεια σας! I've just started studying Greek and I love the language! I just have one question, it might have been already asked here, but here it goes:
Is there a rule about which "i" letter (ee sound) to use in a word? There are 5 different forms - οι, ει, η, υ and ι. I never know which one to write even though I know how to pronounce the word. Is there some kind of basic rule, or you just learn it the way it is in each word?

Looking for new people
So, I'm 27M Zaza from Germany.
I was thinking about planning a vacation in Greece. Maybe for 10 days or a bit longer depending on how much I can explore.
I wanted to ask if there are some people who would like to become friends and maybe show me around and visit great places. Perhaps even a few places that aren’t overrun by tourists.

Greek Song Lyrics Request
In the last couple of years I have discovered so many wonderful Greek songs, mostly from the1940s to the 60s. I find the lyrics for the songs I really like and translate them into English so that I can try to understand what they are about.
I'm trying to learn some Greek but I'm not a serious student, only enough to enjoy the songs more. Normally, I am able to find the Greek lyrics online but occasionally I'm not able to find the lyrics.
There are two excellent Greek songs that I was hoping someone could provide the lyrics for. Just the original Greek lyrics would be great; if you add the English translation, of course all the better.
The songs are :
Να Μας Χωρίσουν Προσπαθούν by Ρούλα Καλάκη,
And, Πανικός by Γιώτα Λυδια.
Thank you so much!

Trying to find a Greek song
Hi,
I was in a relationship with a Greek woman over a year ago, it was a messy breakup and i made the mistake of deleting all the songs she recommended me from my playlist.
I am now trying to find a very specific song again.
- It is a duet, a woman and a man with a deep voice;
- It starts slow but gets more intense, at the end they both sing together;
-It is a sad song i think, i don't quite remember the lyrics but there might have been something with running and dogs;
-It's pretty recent, it has an "indie but sad" vibe;
-And i'm not sure but it might start with the letter Π
Please help me find it!
Thank you

Hi! Is anyone here looking to learn Greek? I’d love to help!
I’m from Greece and I teach Greek online. What I love most is seeing my students go from a simple “γεια σου” to speaking confidently in real conversations. We always combine speaking with just the right amount of grammar, so learning feels natural and makes sense in context.
My lessons are relaxed and interactive — completely tailored to you. Whether you want to chat, understand grammar, or explore everyday Greek life, we make it simple, fun, and practical.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, just drop me a message. I’d love to hear about your goals and help you get started with Greek. 🙂

I need help please. Can someone write text of this song for me?
I’m originally from Mariupol, Ukraine, we have a huge community of ethnic Greeks in there, and that song was so popular when I was a child. Unfortunately I can’t find text of this song anywhere, I would really appreciate if someone can help me with transcription.

Interactive app that teaches grammar? (Like Busuu, which doesn't offer Greek).
Language Transfer is great, but listening to lectures isn't enough for me. I need to be able to type and speak myself and get feedback.
Update: I think Clozemaster might work for what I need.

Γιατί τονίζονται τα κεφαλαία;
Έχω παρατηρήσει ότι στο βιντεοπαιχνίδι “Γεια Σου Γείτονα” (Hello Neighbor) και στην εφαρμογή Ρέντιτ (Reddit) όταν γράφεται κείμενο μόνο με κεφαλαία γράμματα, οι λέξεις γράφονται με τον τονισμό. Επίσης, έχω δει ότι όταν γράφω αποκλειστικά με τα κεφαλαία γράμματα, το πληκτρολόγιο του παλιού μου τηλεφώνου Ριλμί 9i (Realme 9i) προβλέπει τις λέξεις μαζί με τον τονισμό, ενώ στο καινούριο μου Άιφον 14 Προ (iPhone 14 Pro) το πληκτρολόγιο προβλέπει αυτές τις λέξεις χωρίς να τις τονίζει. Γιατί όμως οι δημιουργοί κάνουν έτσι;

Translation of English Documents to Greek
Happy Monday! I went to the Greek Consulate site. I
Found their list of approved translators.
I emailed 10 requesting to hire them for document translation. Indicating I found them listed on the consulate site. One person replied.
Now she has all our documents and a deposit. But i have not heard back from her (specifically on when she will be able to complete the translation). It has been 2 weeks since she got the final document and a week since i sent a follow up email.
I know I am short on patience… I know Greece is slower and more relaxed than the US. But I am struggling waiting and not knowing anything.
Has anyone used one of the approved translators? If so, who did you use? And how long did it take? Any guidance or shared experiences are appreciated!
