This is Sammy he is a pyr mix with German shepherd and is 4x ish inbred. Not my doing!! I didn’t know he was inbred before I got him. He is roughly 9months old (born early February) and he is HUGE now, he no longer fits on my lap, very sad, and he is the sweetest boy.

We adopted our girl a year ago and she was heartworm negative, but she just popped heartworm positive on her annual this week, so our vet suspects she must’ve been infected right before she was rescued and it just didn’t show up on the test yet. We’ve had her on monthly treatments since we got her so I’m hoping the heart worms are not that advanced. We’ll get a chest x-ray done to confirm. I am hearing conflicting things from my Vet versus from the rescue we got her from in terms of the best treatment plan going forward. My vet acknowledged they don’t see a lot of heartworm cases, but recommended the three shot more intense approach that’s supported by AHA, and the rescue has mentioned that their vet is a heartworm expert and uses the slow kill method (in particular something called ProHeart12 that’s apparently pretty new). My understanding was that the slow kill was not necessarily as effective and might leave her exposed to Heartworms longer, but now I’m confused getting basically two opposite recommendations. Does anyone have experience treating heart worms in their Pyrenees? Would love any experience or advice here. Thank you! Pic for tax 🐾

I lost my lil dog Chloe on Tuesday my bday and my bullmastiff today he couldn’t handle it … was devastatingly saddest death in my 51 years of life including humans , past dogs , and horses . He was so heartbroken he wouldn’t even come in house he looked everywhere for her. He was there with all of us in my home when she was PTS he got to see her after as well n smell her to understand. He could t handle it n his back went into shit down . I’m sickly heartbroken. Indy was with ace the last two days staying by his side in barn n with him when he passed today at home with vet again . Izzy gets it but not grieving like the rest of us . Suck as weak.

Our pup recently started howling following a visit to the groomer (about a month ago). His haircut was a bit shorter than normal (not shaved or anything short, still simply trimmed) so I figured this was the cause of the sudden howling. However, he is still howling quite a bit. I come home- he howls. We park the car - he howls. He sees his grandparents- he howls. Have anyone else experienced this with their pyr? Should I be concerned? He’s got full energy, is running/walking and playing just fine, is eating like normal etc. for context, he’s 4.

We blew some money on our livestock guardian dogs because one keeps getting out and taking everyone else with him, abandoning them and coming back on his own without the others.
After it happened for the second time we have doubled down and will be purchasing tracking collars- we plan on rehoming the ring leader. but he’s very difficult to keep entertained enough to keep at home. So atleast while he is here he needs to have a tracker. He’s not interested in guarding my goats and it’s why I think he don’t wanna stay his favorite things are coming in the house uninvited and wandering around to every farm in the vicinity. He just wants to hang out and be a family farm pet and I don’t hate him for it or anything. But I’d rather not keep him around if it means my other ones will stay where they belong and not out playing on the highways.
We bought the pet link GPS tracking collars but it’s been a nightmare and I’ve barely had them for a week. For Some reason the app toggled on active tracking mode on its own, and killed the collar on one of the dogs, now I can’t get it to come back online, not to mention it is highly inaccurate on their position at almost all times. It put one of them over 25mins away in on one update, and 10 minutes later said they were back home, they would’ve had to have been traveling over 60mph to achieve that. And I refuse to believe that and believe it’s much more feasible to say that the collar is just junk.
Any recommendations for rural areas. I’ve got atleast 2 to track but I’d like all 4 of mine to have collars. I can’t stop them from escaping, they either dig under or climb right over it even though the fence is electrified for my goats, and it’s not readable right now to fence in all 10 and a half acres with 6ft tall fencing right now.
I’ve had experience with FI- but they are terrible and also not as accurate as I’d like.

Hey y’all!
We have a GP we chose to keep intact who is a mixed use farm dog in the NJ/PA area. He has big, dark badger markings, and from what I understand, that’s pretty rare. He has the best temperament of any dog I’ve ever met. This may sound a little odd, but my wife and I were talking and we wondered if there might be any breeders interested in getting more of the older breed traits like badger markings back into their bloodline.
