I genuinely love this drama queen! He’s always a joy to watch onscreen.

I've watched 7 Ghibli movies so far, and I'm loving this journey. Here's how I'd group them based on how much I enjoyed each movie.

My absolute favourites

1. Princess Mononoke — I'm a huge lover of nature and animals, so this movie was special to me. I loved San's independence, loyalty, and love. There's something deeper about her that I can't quite put into words, and the movie genuinely inspired me on a personal level.
2. The Boy and the Heron — I absolutely loved the atmosphere and environment, especially the vibe around the mansion, the lake, and the trees. The visuals were amazing, and all the strange, fascinating creatures made the world feel magical.
3. Spirited Away — I loved the magical atmosphere, the incredibly imaginative world, and all the strange, fascinating spirits and creatures. The attention to detail in the animation was amazing, and everything felt so alive. It has a unique charm that's difficult to explain.

Other movies I really loved

• Grave of the Fireflies
• When Marnie Was There (made me cry 😭)
• Arrietty

Movies I enjoyed

• Howl's Moving Castle (i didn't connect very well)

I enjoyed all seven movies, but I connected with some more than others. These groups reflect my personal enjoyment, not the quality of the films.

Watch order

1. Grave of the Fireflies ( i know not a good choice as 1st Ghibli movie 🙏🏻😭)
2. Spirited Away
3. When Marnie Was There
4. Arrietty
5. Howl's Moving Castle
6. The Boy and the Heron
7. Princess Mononoke 😍

What should I watch next?

I'm especially drawn to movies with beautiful environments, immersive atmospheres, imaginative worlds, and emotional depth. I love nature and animals, and I really appreciate the little details in Ghibli's animation.

I'd love to hear your recommendations, whether it's another Ghibli movie or an animated film from another studio. If you recommend a particular movie, I'd love to know why you think I'd enjoy it!

my favorite tattoo so far.

what do you guys think?

I’ve always felt such a strong connection to the part where Haku remembers that he is the spirit of the KoHaku River.

soo cute!! got at a local flower market 🥲🥲

One kingdom has warlike rulers who want all the power they want and use the word ‘peace’ to gaslight people.

Whereas Pedjiete doesn’t like Tolmekia and they killed off their people.

Also, what would Pedjiete do if they went to the valley of the wind? Would it be the same thing as the Tolmekians, or would it be different

Thought this would be fun...

(This is my interpretation. It might not have been intentional and/or I may be wrong about this.)

San’s clothing helps with storytelling of her growing up.

•At the beginning, San wears a mask that completely covers her face, a cloak made of fur, and a necklace with teeth. (She had a deep hatred for humans, but she was one herself, even if she thought she wasn’t. “STOP IT! I’M A WOLF, YOU HEAR?!”)

•After she met Ashitaka, she still wears the cloak and the necklace, but her mask now only covers half of her face. (Ashitaka was different from other greedy and violent humans she met.)

•In the end, San is not wearing any mask, cloak or teeth necklace anymore, but now she is wearing the necklace with the crystal dagger that Ashitaka gave her. (She accepted her humanity and now understands that not all humans are evil, but she decided to live in the forest and take care of the wolves.)

We begin with Hayao Miyazaki's directorial debut in Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. We break down the "gentleman thief" trope, invite family to ask a few big questions, then have just enough time to watch the beautiful intro.

For me, I want to live in arriety's little world surrounded by nature and tiny things, without haru ruining everything 😅

This might just be a personal headcanon. But here's some reasons I think this way.

1. She has trouble eating certain foods

2. She feels distant from friends and family

I love ghibli but I never watched porco rosso. Few weeks ago I watched it with my bf and I asked him why he thinks porco looks like a pig and he said, he might be a „Kameradenschwein“. This is a german word for people who left their companions back alone or for backstabber. Especially old people still use this word so I think it was commonly used in war times. (we live in Austria)

after some research it makes totally sense:
1. its a movie about italy/austria and „Kameradenschwein“ means companion PIG and its also a word mainly used in war scenes.
2. Marco/Porco was the only survivor in a war scene. Maybe he felt like a „Kameradenschwein“ or backstabber bc he was the only one surviving and also felt in love with Gina. Maybe other people judged him and told him it was his fault or thought he backstabbed his companions, and thats why he was able to survive. And maybe because he left the army afterwards and also „betrayed“ the army/his country

Miyazaki LITERALLY made Marco become a PIG. and in some moments, when marco forgot his feelings of guilt or when he feels like a hero or when he stops pushing his feelings away, he becomes human back again. Its not a curse, its his guilt of feeling like a „KAMERADENSCHWEIN“. Its a conflict with himself and the guilt.

I think its really interesting that Miyazaki used a german insult and made a movie out of it. So you might only understand it when you speak german and know the word „KAMERADENSCHWEIN“

I’ve really been enjoying all the amazing facial expressions these lovely little creatures have to offer. I’ve been making these out of glass lately and really enjoy the challenge they present!

Link to the post were I explain myself and have a video: https://www.reddit.com/r/Miyazaki/s/Mi5OJQEUTD

I don't know if this is permitted here or not, I couldn't upload video on this subreddit so it had to go to r/Miyazaki, but I still think people here may be interested in it.

Check it out if you will, there was a whole show, escenario and workshop built, as well as Porco Rosso's plane

This is the alternate version of the children's rhyme that only Kaguya and the people of the Moon know. When Kaguya is singing the song to her mother, her mother slowly repeats the line, “If you are truly waiting for me… I will come straight back,” as though the pieces of a puzzle are beginning to connect. But what exactly are they referring to here?

“A Celestial Maiden's Song” (Tennyo no Uta)

Birds, bugs, beasts,
grass, trees, flowers.
Teach people how to feel.
If I hear that you pine for me,
I will return to you.

Does it refer to the Moon? If she pines for the Moon, the people of the Moon will return to take her back to her home?

Although the entire song is about life on Earth So, “If she pines for Earth, she will be sent back to Earth”?  They dont really explain what Kaguya's "sin" is but I think the general consensus is that she was exiled to Earth as a punishment for her desire to go there? So this interpretation kinda checks out too?

What do you guys think? And yes I know this is a Ghibli movie and many things are left abstract but this line kind of stuck with me.

When I posted this earlier this week I only had two squares done. I’ve gotten quite a few more done! Bonus points for anyone who can guess every movie square 😅

Greetings all,

I was wondering if there was a market for used Ghibli movies? I pretty much have the whole collection that I'm going to sell, and was wondering where might be the best place to sell (ebay, Facebook, etc) also, about how much is a fair price for them? Most are in Blu-ray, some DVD, all in mint condition.

Thanks in advance!
