RULE REMINDER: NO POLITICS -- a friendly note

Good morning everyone. Just a friendly rule reminder .... you know those rules over there on the right side of the sub.... Rule 3 saying "no politics."

Look, I get it. The world is a mess, US politics are infuriating. I'm right there with you.

But.... this sub isn't the spot for it. Even if it is a picture of Guy shaking hands with someone. If it sets off a political debate this is NOT the place for it. That rule has been in place since the beginning, when you signed up to belong here.

Just remember, there are OTHER subs where you can debate this to your heart's content. But not here. This sub is supposed to be a relaxing, happy place where people come to talk about food. Let's try to keep it that way.

It's also come to my attention some people have been unhappy seeing political posts deleted and were less than polite to some of our mods. That won't work.

Everyone was on notice when they joined the sub ... rule 3.... no politics. Now because of a few bad apples we have to get serious about enforcing it. So consider yourself doubly on notice.

First infraction you will get a 3 day ban. Keep it up, all the way ban.

We have lots of good programs to talk about. The TOC finals are fast coming, 24 in 24 is following that and the new Baking Show is great. Let's keep this sub about the food and not about the politics. We get more than enough politics every place else on the internet.

Thank you for your attention, and please be kind to your mods. They are all volunteers and spend a lot of time keeping this space clean and safe for you and yours.

Now.... Bon Appetit! -- Firegoat1

Since the holiday season is here, I want to address some of the comments that are being said. If you wouldn’t say it to someone who’s standing in front of you, please don’t say it here.

Stop the mean spirited posts that say I hate this person or that show. These are low effort posts and there’s far too many of them every single day.

This sub has become mean spirited and sometimes hateful. Attacks about people’s looks or behaviors won’t be tolerated anymore. You may be “Chopped” if they continue. These are real people who read these comments.

We want this sub to be a welcoming place to the chefs, bakers, and everyone we watch on these shows. I know for a fact that many of them are Reddit users. This isn’t a place they want to frequent anymore. That changes now.

There’s a spoiler post up for each show every day that it airs. Please use it. Try and be kind. If you dislike something so much, why are you here? Read the rules.

The mods are volunteers. If you see bullying, report it.

There was a popular post yesterday about all the negativity. The overwhelming response was that people are tired of it! Be thoughtful when posting. We are all here for the love of good food.

Competition shows are here to stay. They are less expensive to produce and there are other avenues that have fulfilled the instructional side of cooking. It doesn’t need to be debated every few hours. I personally try and find something unique in each show that I can use; a new ingredient I’m not familiar with or a new technique.

Thank you for making this sub a fun place to explore.

Ina Garten Admits She Doesn’t Fully Understand Her Own Fame: ‘Not a Clue’

The Barefoot Contessa opened up about her success during a candid conversation with Mel Robbins, revealing why she doesn’t see herself the way fans do.

Ina Garten opens up about her career, success and surprising perspective on fame during an appearance on ‘The Mel Robbins Podcast.’
The Mel Robbins Podcast

Ina Garten may be one of the most recognizable names in the food world, but the Barefoot Contessa says she doesn’t quite understand what all the fuss is about.
During a recent appearance on The Mel Robbins Podcast, the bestselling cookbook author and television personality opened up about her career, her marriage to husband Jeffrey, and the surprising way she views her own fame.
While discussing Garten’s journey from specialty food store owner to Food Network icon, Robbins pointed out, “I don’t think you have a clue how admired and impactful you are in people’s lives.”

Ina Garten and Mel Robbins share a laugh during Garten’s appearance on The Mel Robbins Podcast, where the Barefoot Contessa reflected on her career and unexpected fame.
The Mel Robbins Podcast
“Not a clue,” Garten admitted. “A friend of mine says, ‘You’re the only person who has absolutely no idea who Ina Garten is.’ And I think she’s right.”
In the candid interview, Garten shared her story of leaving her government job in her 30s and purchasing a specialty food store in Westhampton, New York. “I did one thing that was smart,” Garten said of the purchase. “I bought it, but I made a deal with the seller that she would stay for a month and teach me what I need to know, ’cause I didn’t know anything.”

“I didn’t know how to cash out a register. I didn’t know how to slice smoked salmon. I could bake 12 brownies for my friends, but I didn’t know how to bake 1,000 brownies,” she added.
During her time owning Barefoot Contessa, Garten learned a lesson that would eventually shape every cookbook she’s written. After discovering that customers weren’t interested in the fancy dishes she was preparing, she moved her roast chickens from an elegant platter with fresh herbs into simple red-and-white checkered paper baskets.

“I just lined them up on the counter, and they sold in 10 minutes,” Garten recalled. “And I thought, ‘Oh, people have elegant taste, but they don’t want fancy food at home.'”
After selling Barefoot Contessa in 1996, Garten wasn’t sure what to do next. She spent nearly a year wondering whether she’d given up the most interesting career she’d ever have before Jeffrey encouraged her to find another way to work in the food industry. She eventually submitted a cookbook proposal, which was accepted.
“One of the things that I do if I decide to do something like run a specialty food store, write a cookbook, or do a television show, I don’t wanna do it the way other people do it,” she told Robbins. “I always think to myself, ‘I’m not gonna do this until I figure out how I can do it better.’ And I think that’s one of the things that has served me very well, that if I’m gonna write a cookbook, I’m gonna write the cookbook that I wanna write.”
“In that case, it was really simple recipes that I know will work every time,” she explained, “gorgeous photographs, and ingredients you can get in the grocery store. That was my mantra, and it worked. I think I really connected with an audience in that way.”
That commitment to doing things her own way has remained a constant throughout Garten’s career, even as she’s become one of the most recognizable personalities in the food world. But while her recipes, cookbooks and television shows have earned her legions of fans, Garten says she still doesn’t quite understand her own celebrity.

“I don’t really get it, but I’m just delighted,” she admitted. “I’m delighted that people connect with what I do, which is wonderful.”
Garten’s newest cookbook, Simply Ina, releases this month, on Oct. 20. New episodes of The Mel Robbins Podcast come out each week on Monday and Thursday.

Halloween Baking Championship Question About HBC Judging

The judges just seem so far away when they are judging the physicality of their desserts…. how do they see all the little details from where they are? Lol

I’m guessing it’s an angle trick with the camera or maybe the show edits out the judging process. They will literally call out some of the smallest details and I’m like how can you even see that from there? Lol

What do you think of Molly Yeh replacing Nancy Fuller as a judge on Holiday Baking Championship? Spoiler

Source: Food Network's Holiday Lineup 2026

I know people didn't like last years season as much as past seasons and wanted change, and that Nancy was a bit of a divisive figure on the show, but she and Duff have been the only constants throughout every season of Holiday Baking Championship and I feel like it just won't be the same without Nancy's finger waving celebrations or complaints that there's not enough booze/holiday in her desserts. I might also be a little biased because this is one of my mom's favorite shows and Nancy was her favorite judge, so I know she is NOT going to like Molly replacing her (she hated her season hosting Spring Baking Championship).

None of the episodes have aired yet but what do you think? Positive change for the new season or another step back from seasons past?

Wasn't able to find any old threads on it, but was anyone else a fan of "How to Boil Water" in the early FN days? Unfortunately I can only find two episodes on YouTube (unsurprisingly a lot of search results are about actually boiling water).

Sean was funny but I had a huge crush on Cathy. From what I recall, she wasn't intended to be an on-screen regular but Sean kept coaxing her to be on until she became a fixture.

I also remember Sean being on the show's fan portal on AOL.

Halloween Baking Championship Halloween Baking Championship tonight - pre show and live show discussion Spoiler

From the FN site:

Doll Trouble

Episode 1205

No one is safe! Host John Henson challenges the remaining six bakers to face off in head-to-head matchups to create demon doll desserts, either Paris-Brest, baked cheesecake, or Swiss roll. Bakers with the same type of dessert face off, and the winner of each matchup is safe. Judges Stephanie Boswell, Aarti Sequeira, and Zac Young pick the overall challenge winner to receive $1,000, and the least successful baker is eliminated.

Okay, this might be fun. I always love creepy dolls.

The show is followed by two episodes of Sweet Deceit.

The network unveiled its 2026 holiday programming slate on Thursday, Oct. 8, revealing new seasons and holiday editions of several fan-favorite shows beginning Nov. 2.

Among the biggest changes is a new format for Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown. This year, the competition becomes Team Bobby Flay vs. Team Brooke Williamson, with the two Food Network stars assembling teams for a girls-vs.-guys culinary showdown.

Williamson will join forces with Antonia Lofaso and Ayesha Nurdjaja, while Flay’s team includes Michael Voltaggio and Michael Jenkins.

Each week, additional chefs will arrive to join the festivities, which Food Network promises will include holiday food, games, cocktails and plenty of competition.

The guest list includes Gabe Bertaccini, Maneet Chauhan, Adrienne Cheatham, Leah Cohen, Tiffani Faison, Viet Pham, Damaris Phillips, Marcus Samuelsson, Jet Tila, Bryan Voltaggio, Geoffrey Zakarian and Claudette Zepeda.

Desperately searching for Easter Basket Challenge: Season 3!

The third season of this show is the only season I haven’t been able to find and I’m desperately looking for sentimental reasons.

The 3rd season aired in Spring 2023 so it’s not very old, it’s just niche to the point where I don’t believe it’s online anywhere.

It’s not available for purchase or streaming and I can’t find hardly anything about it online.

Does anyone know of any leads or places that may have less popular food network shows available?

Thank you so much for anyone that can be any help <3

Tournament of Champions All Star Christmas --- Here are the teams!

Link to full story: ‘Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas’ 2026 Reveals 32 All-Star Chefs: Meet the 16 Teams - Parade

An excerpt from the story:

‘TOC: All-Star Christmas’ 2026 Teams

Here are all 16 teams announced by Food Network:

  • Jet Tila and Alex Guarnaschelli
  • Ashley Holt and Britt Rescigno
  • Tobias Dorzon and Kenny Gilbert
  • Marcel Vigneron and Hung Huynh
  • Kevin Lee and Shota Nakajima
  • Dale Talde and TJ Obias
  • Mei Lin and Alex Stupak
  • Sara Bradley and Nini Nguyen
  • Stephanie Izard and Damaris Phillips
  • Gabe Bertaccini and Zac Young
  • Aaron May and Adam Sobel
  • Grace Pak and Rocco DiSpirito
  • Curtis Stone and Mitzi Reyes
  • Brian Malarkey and Carlos Anthony
  • Stephanie Boswell and Aarti Sequeira
  • Molly Coen and Chayil Johnson

Food Network is promising plenty of holiday spirit along with the competition, describing the 32 contestants as “jingle-bell-rockstar chefs” who will tackle festive flavors as they attempt to “sleigh the competition.”

The Christmas edition puts a team spin on Fieri’s popular culinary tournament, with the chefs having to work together rather than relying solely on their individual skills.

And there are some particularly intriguing combinations in the bracket. Tila and Guarnaschelli bring together two longtime Food Network heavyweights, while Rescigno and Holt have both become familiar faces to Tournament of Champions viewers.

Malarkey and Anthony should also make for an interesting team. The two chefs have competed against each other in the TOC arena, but this time they’ll be on the same side. Will they work well together? Malarkey is Anthony’s mentor, but will their similar personalities combine well or clash in the kitchen?

Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas is one piece of Food Network’s extensive 2026 holiday lineup. Holiday Baking Championship returns Nov. 2, followed by Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking on Nov. 4. Holiday episodes of Sweet Deceit begin Nov. 16, and Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown returns Nov. 17.

Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas premieres Sunday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network.

Bring back Outrageous Pumpkins! Fall TV is completely ruined without it.

I am so incredibly disappointed and frustrated over the quiet cancellation of Outrageous Pumpkins this year.
Leaving this show off the fall lineup is a massive mistake. While Halloween Baking Championship and Halloween Wars are great, they do not replace the incredible, raw artistic talent of elite 3D pumpkin sculpting. Outrageous Pumpkins provided a completely unique, non-baking creative energy that made October television special. Watching master carvers transform 1,000-pound gourds into fine art was a staple holiday tradition in my household.

Streamlining the budget by cutting a very creative fall show on the network has left loyal viewers completely let down. Food Network, please listen to your fans and bring this show back next year!

Sincerely,
Bonnie

Tournament of Champions Tournament of Champions

Hey all!!

Looking to see if anyone has any insights on going to the filming of TOC? My sister and I have tickets to go to the first available recording, but then realized that they do qualifiers usually too before the actual season airs.

So my question is to anyone who may have gone to TOC (not the Christmas one since there's no qualifiers there).. but to see if anyone has any insight on how the episode scheduling usually is.

Are all of the contestants introduced the first recording, or is it just the qualifiers and then the rest of the group gets introduced in later recordings.

Any insight or info that anyone has, that would be great. Thank you!

My contemporary competition show tier list

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is largely a guide for friends who I try to introduce to the current competition circuit (I.e. the past few years of shows). Totally subjective! I'm sure I'm missing some but this is just what I've seen. (I've only seen first couple seasons of Worst Cooks so didn't wanna vouch for that in this category.)

I also made a tier list of all the chefs I'm most familiar with but I'm worried that may be too spicy... I'll post that one too if people want it tho haha.
