does anybody else draw the line at people taking their socks off on a plane

• Upvotes

shoes off i get. long flight, feet swell, nobody wants to sit for hours in tight shoes.

but socks off is a different level for me. bare feet out in a tight cabin where everyone is stuck breathing the same air. and then some people walk to the bathroom barefoot which is a whole other thing i cannot unsee.

is it just me being extra or is there an unwritten line here. shoes ok, socks stay on, bare feet never touch anything public.

what is the worst you have seen on a flight

i have a huge crush on one of my captains and idk what to do

i work for a smaller low cost carrier, so i fly with the same people ALL the time. there’s this particular captain that i’ve flown with multiple times now and he’s always been super playful and flirty, and i noticed that he only acts this way towards me. long story short i’ve developed a crush on him and i know everyoneeee says it’s a horrible idea to date the pilots…. but i like him SO bad.

i saw him on hinge the other day and know that he’s single. i don’t want to make a move because i think we should keep it professional. i just don’t know how to stop having a crush on him..

someone give me horror stories on dating pilots so i can get over this crush PLEASE

Ridiculous Injuries That Make Me Shy to Admit to Crew Sched...

So... I got injured after deadheading home. Not a work injury, happened in my home. But I am really insecure about telling Crew Sched what actually happened because it's so utterly ridiculous, I fear they won't believe me...

Yesterday, I bent down to pet my cat after changing out of my uniform. For some unknown reason, by back decided to sprain right then and there. First time that ever happened to me (I'm only 30!!) and it was so painful my husband had to carry me to the bed and literally unfold my body.

So I was in bed, using the solutions I read online for a sprained back, namely rest, applying heat and muscle relaxant... Luckily, it's my day off, so I'm not worried about being called in, and I have another day to recuperate.

However, just as I was enjoying the warmth on my back, the hot water bottle (which was about 15 years old) burst at the seam and scalding water spread all over my back, causing 2nd degree burns over my entire lower back.

I'm currently at the hospital, waiting to be seen for the burn and the sprain. I have a pairing tomorrow and I need to call in sick because I can't work like this. But I'm so embarrassed about the situation that I don't know what to say...

Advice, anyone? Thank you in advance!

Dear FAA it should be illegal for me to fly on day 2 & 3 of my period 🫩😔anyways! what's everyone's method of surviving?

Oh the torture of flying on a metal tube for 10-12 hrs while bleeding incessantly the whole time and popping tylenol to get through the pain 💔😛

anyways!! just curious- what's everyone's preference while flying??-

Tampons?
Pads?
Cups?
Discs?
Absorbing Undies?

Commuting FA

Post image
8 Upvotes

This is mostly for WN FAs. I am commuting from MDW to DEN, but when coming back, I plan to commute back to ORD as it's closer to me. I am trying to look at MyIDTravel for United and Delta flights, but it is not letting me commute. Is there something I am doing wrong, or is WN not in agreement with them?

Question for the FAs

I posted this in the /americanairlines sub but wanted more FA input so I’m cross-posting.

Do y’all notice/care/appreciate when passengers are actually paying attention during the safety announcements?

I have always waited until the safety announcements were over before starting to watch a show on my iPad and sometimes get the occasional smile from the FA who sees me. Other times it seems no one notices that I am actually paying attention. Despite the fact that I could recite much of it, I guess I find it respectful to pay attention and just wondered if those FAs working in FC/BC cared because frequently I’m the only one who isn’t already asleep or with their earbuds in.

American (AA) off work traveling.

3 years in and I never traveled or got on a plane before this job. Now I find myself never using my benefits. Can someone give me any recommendations on cheap weekend trips or places you loved to travel solo. I usually do 2 trips a year with other FA friends but it’s harder and harder plan. I’m newly single and want to start taking advantage of my benefits. Thank you

Need Hotel Organization/Travel Tips

Like, long-term hotel stay hacks that help keep things cozy and clean and feeling sort of put together instead of constantly chaotic. Bags, containers, hacks, tips, product links, anything would be appreciated! And I am talking pretty much year-round hotel stays with checking in and out quite a bit so anything that is easily broken down and transported would also be cool.

Thanks in advance!

How much money have you saved from commuting to your hub?

I wonder how much money we’re saving (or costing the airline) by commuting every week?

This job is soul sucking. Does it get better?

How do you keep your sparkle? I haven’t felt like myself since I started flying. I’m approaching 4 years. Normally I’m a very color-outside-the-lines type of person and I’m really starting to dread putting on the uniform and having to go do the dance. Passengers don’t give a F about being polite anymore or treating me like a person. Am I really destined to go to work every day and get poked by people’s trash for the next 30 years? Lmao I’m half-joking but how are y’all staying sane? 🥹 the irony is I actually have a ton of time off but the more time off I have the more I don’t want to go back to work…

I’m 18 and an employed FA

I’m currently struggling with a bit of an imposter syndrome at my work because older FA continue to make me feel less deserving or capable to do my job because of my age. At first it was just side glances and comments about the airline having no hiring standards (this was bad enough as it is) but what really affected me was having the leader of my crew on my last trip say in front of the whole crew that I shouldn’t be here and that this shouldn’t be anybody’s first job (it’s not my first job I have worked since I was 15) and kept saying that I would never be prepared to do what it takes in case of an emergency because of my age and because she is in her 30s and can’t imagine herself doing it. (Which to me is an insane and I did felt like I was able to do everything I was taught before this encounter)

Honestly to me in that moment that felt like proof that age does not equal maturity and I founded the comments incredibly disrespectful. I shouldn’t be doubted for my work when she had absolutely nothing bad she could have said about my performance only personal judgement that I do not need because normal people don’t feel entitled to judge who gets a position in a job when it’s not part of your job to determine that. I have been thinking about making an anonymous report but I don’t want to have that negatively impact my work in case I have to fly with her or any of her friends again soon. (In my airline there is a toxic environment regarding this, if you report someone and you are going to fly with someone they know they will make that flight miserable too)

So this is the point where I ask for advice, I don’t know how to continue like this or erase this feeling she left that I’m not good enough for this job and I don’t know if should report her or not.

Uptick in rudeness and rules regarding out of uniform.

Hello everyone I have a question that I’m sure is going to stir a lot of negative emotions. I’m a TSA officer with about two years experience at LAS.

I’ve noticed an uptick of overall rudeness from crew members and have had multiple “ interactions” where out of uniform crew members are shocked that they have to dump out liquids unless they go change into their uniform before entering through screening.

i’ve worked at both terminal one and terminal three and I’ve had many instances where crew members have said something to me like I personally chose to give them a random. I’ve had a few argue and get upset why they can’t go through airport employee screening vs walking a little further to precheck or that I’m stupid for asking them if they know where to go when they get selected as a random.

Part of what we have to do since CMAP was implemented is ask everyone if they are enrolled even if it’s the same airline and there’s 30 of you in line. TSA is pushing really hard on the customer service aspect moving forward so we have to ask each and every one of you the same questions regardless if we recognize your face or not.

My three main questions I have to ask is

Is there a reason crewmembers are treating Tsa officers almost as an enemy when selected as random
* I’m not talking about if the TSO is rude to you first and you’re responding in kind.

Are new hires to your airlines, not being taught about out of Uniform rules in regards to liquids and is this something that senior crew members are having to correct?

Are there other airports that allow crew members to go down employee screening lanes versus pre-check?

Thank you to all take the time to seriously answer. If no one has told you today I appreciate all the work you guys do, especially when dealing with the general public.

Is it BS: A senior mama (30+ years) told me that if you buy a confirmed ticket on a different airline to travel internationally, you can use KCM/CMAP and won't get in trouble

Worked with a senior mama last week who said the above.

PressXtoDoubt.jpeg, but she said she's done it before and she's obviously still working, so 🤷‍♀️?

Anyone tried it before and didn't get in trouble?

EDIT: Just want to say that this isn't me asking so I can do it (because I would never). It's more me asking how tf she's still working lol

Nails

What are we doing to make nails last . Acrylic , gel-x, builder gel etc ? I usually do acrylics but saw gel-x. Looks beautiful but don’t want one to pop off while I’m trying to close bins or doing galley carts.
Thanks ❤️

The End of FA Influencers?

Recently someone was fired for posting while being on the jumpseat (allegedly based on a TikTok). Because I do interact & watch FA content, Ive been seeing Tiktoks of FAs warning people not to post in the uniforms.

The content does help bring in more applicants. I never thought about being an FA before the videos. When I came across the videos showing the work life and lifestyle, I became interested.

Do you think companies are going to be cracking down on all FA content?

I wonder if the employees at corporate get the same treatment for filming in their office & monetizing their non rev trips.... 🤔

Commuting FAs: How Do You Travel With a Third Bag (Lunch Cooler)?

New FA here! For those who commute non-rev, how do you travel with your lunch bag/cooler when you’re typically limited to two bags?

Do airlines generally allow a third bag for crew members, or do you have to travel in uniform to qualify for an exception?

Just trying to figure out how everyone manages their luggage and lunch bag while commuting. Thanks!

Best hand lotion?

Tried and true please.

& please don’t mention Trader Joe’s hand lotion … I’m not a fan of the coconut oil base and I feel like if I don’t use a lot it doesn’t feel moisturizing but if I do use a slightly generous amount it easily runs greasy and doesn’t absorb well.

The 🌐 in DEN 😩

Not gonna a lie, I have been in DEN for nearly 15 years and it's never been so depressing. I know I could transfer, but that would mean commuting and I did that for a long time and it sucked.

I wish both Management and AFA would just be truthful about what their end game is for the base. The fact that they have purged nearly 800 FAs out in a liitle less than a year, is shocking. The base shrinks, but the HUB continues to grow. 51% of the trips in Nov are turns!

Ready Reserve FA Question

Hey guys I’m pretty new (4 months in) and I’m on ready reserve continuously I can’t stand being the crew room because it’s literally so quiet that I can’t breathe like I get anxious being in there not saying that the FAs are bad I just don’t like staying in one place 😭. Do you guys feel the same way too? And if so where do you guys usually wait on Ready in your airport sometimes I wish I could just stay in the airport parking in my car. 🫩

Thoughts on a LunchEaze?

Does any one use or have experience with using a lunch eaze? I’ve seen a lot of people use hot logic, but I hear they take a while to heat up and I like the fact that a lunch eaze is on a timer so I can have it heating up before I even reach the hotel and be ready when I get there.

Other heating lunch box recommendations are also appreciated!
