Announcement Subreddit Status Quo, Moderation & More

I would like to address a few posts and comments I've seen regarding this community with this announcement in the hope it addresses some concerns which have been brought up with the moderation team.

  • Open Community - r/flightattendants is an open community. FA's, pilots, family, friends, passengers, and more are always welcome to participate and submit insightful content that adds value to the community. Keeping this community accessible is key to our goal of being a hub and resource for all on all things FA.

  • Repetitive posts - We've heard you. Topics that are repetitive and unoriginal will be more proactively removed. Because of your feedback we have already banned posts regarding recruitment, gifts/suggestions, research/surveys, and the solicitation of flight benefits. But we understand this isn't enough, and there will be more proactive removal of repetitive content that adds no value to the subreddit like passenger spam and topics easily searchable.

  • Rules - The community rules will be simplified and revamped, allowing users to more quickly report posts of the above nature. We highly encourage you all to report these posts (or any others that violate the other rules, bringing them to our attention.

  • Moderator Feedback - We are always open to productive feedback and ideas regarding this subreddit, it's rules, and how it's run. What's not appropriate are public posts and comments born out of frustration and of no productive nature, which target the moderators with disruptive, discordant, and outwardly rude behavior. We are humans too, and we volunteer our time to run this place and work hard behind the scenes. Intentionally rude and insulting behavior is not the way.

Have any other changes you think the community will benefit from, or any ideas for the subreddit from here onward? Please comment below or contact us via modmail.

The End of FA Influencers?

Recently someone was fired for posting while being on the jumpseat (allegedly based on a TikTok). Because I do interact & watch FA content, Ive been seeing Tiktoks of FAs warning people not to post in the uniforms.

The content does help bring in more applicants. I never thought about being an FA before the videos. When I came across the videos showing the work life and lifestyle, I became interested.

Do you think companies are going to be cracking down on all FA content?

I wonder if the employees at corporate get the same treatment for filming in their office & monetizing their non rev trips.... 🤔

Nails

• Upvotes

What are we doing to make nails last . Acrylic , gel-x, builder gel etc ? I usually do acrylics but saw gel-x. Looks beautiful but don’t want one to pop off while I’m trying to close bins or doing galley carts.
Thanks ❤️

Best hand lotion?

Tried and true please.

& please don’t mention Trader Joe’s hand lotion … I’m not a fan of the coconut oil base and I feel like if I don’t use a lot it doesn’t feel moisturizing but if I do use a slightly generous amount it easily runs greasy and doesn’t absorb well.

The 🌐 in DEN 😩

Not gonna a lie, I have been in DEN for nearly 15 years and it's never been so depressing. I know I could transfer, but that would mean commuting and I did that for a long time and it sucked.

I wish both Management and AFA would just be truthful about what their end game is for the base. The fact that they have purged nearly 800 FAs out in a liitle less than a year, is shocking. The base shrinks, but the HUB continues to grow. 51% of the trips in Nov are turns!

Ready Reserve FA Question

Hey guys I’m pretty new (4 months in) and I’m on ready reserve continuously I can’t stand being the crew room because it’s literally so quiet that I can’t breathe like I get anxious being in there not saying that the FAs are bad I just don’t like staying in one place 😭. Do you guys feel the same way too? And if so where do you guys usually wait on Ready in your airport sometimes I wish I could just stay in the airport parking in my car. 🫩

Thoughts on a LunchEaze?

Does any one use or have experience with using a lunch eaze? I’ve seen a lot of people use hot logic, but I hear they take a while to heat up and I like the fact that a lunch eaze is on a timer so I can have it heating up before I even reach the hotel and be ready when I get there.

Other heating lunch box recommendations are also appreciated!

I am a passenger with severe endometriosis - do you think it's allowed for an FA to fill my hot water bottle during the flight?

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing okay. I apologize if this question isn't allowed in this subreddit, or if you don't accept questions from passengers in general. Thanks for what you do!

Anyway, yeah, the question is in the title. I have a 10+ hour flight tomorrow (not on a budget airline, if that matters) and I just got a very painful period. I will have meds with me but unfortunately a heating pad or hot water bottle just works the best for me. I assume the heating pad is no go because that seems dangerous, but do you know it's permitted to fill a passengers hot water bottle? I'm flying from the eu.

I only ask because I have limited baggage space, so if it seems like it will be a no go, I'll just find another way to manage. I can also imagine that there may be weird safety regulations around this that I'm not aware of.

Thanks so much💗

🌐 new new new hires! What comes in the starter uniform package??

Senior-ish 🌐! My girlfriend is graduating training and I’m thinking of buying her some pieces but I don’t want to double buy her anything cause these shits are pricey. What does the starter kit get?

Also is there anything you wish you had when you first started on the line? Love you 👻

CMAP

As KCM is being completely phased out in about two weeks. If you’re getting the “not in the system” “not registered” or “can’t identify” errors and you wear glasses. Take them off before they image scan.

Changed my life 🫶🏾

Listing and what is considered double listing…

I’m looking at flights from FCO to anywhere in the US. For a carrier that doesn’t allow double listing (AA) are you allowed to list for same origin city to different destinations? Or is this also considered double listing? I’m not entirely versed on these non revving rules and would hate to break them! Sincerely, a stew just tryna get home. I’ve looked through the travel planner rules and am having trouble finding the answers. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

SkyWest (OO) Are we allowed to drink while using our benefits for personal travel?

New hire here and paranoid but planning my first trip flying on standby! Sorry if the question is silly. Just wondering if it's allowed since I know it isn't while deadheading. It would be nice to have one drink when it's complimentary

Flight attendant scheduled for a brutal Transatlantic turnaround — am I being unreasonable for refusing to do it?

I’m a flight attendant for an international airline, and I could really use some outside perspective on a schedule I’ve just been given.

In about two weeks, I’m scheduled to operate a flight to New York. The flight itself is around 11 hours. After landing at JFK, we’re supposed to stay at the airport for about 5 hours — no hotel or proper rest period — and then deadhead back home on another roughly 10-hour flight. Please note we don't have a crew rest area and will most probably have to stay in economy/premium economy if we're lucky.

So essentially, I would leave home on Saturday night and only get back on Monday morning, with around 21 hours spent on aircraft plus 5 hours sitting at JFK in between. That doesn’t include reporting time before the outbound flight or getting home after the return.

I checked with our union, and apparently the schedule is legal because I’m deadheading rather than working as operating crew on the return flight.

The problem is that I’m already going through a pretty difficult period mentally and have been feeling quite burned out by the job and the irregular sleep schedule. right now I’m specifically trying to reduce my stress rather than push myself further.

When I saw this roster, my immediate reaction was basically: I am not willing to put myself through this.

It also happens to interfere with my regular therapy appointment and a day off I had specifically requested in advance, which makes the whole thing even more frustrating.

I’ve already been considering leaving the airline and finding something with a more predictable schedule, but I’m not ready to resign right now. I want some time to explore other jobs, look at my finances, and make that decision properly rather than quitting impulsively because of one horrible roster.

So I feel stuck between two things: I don’t want to resign yet, but I also feel very strongly that this particular trip crosses a personal limit for me.

Tldr;

Got a horrible roster with an 11-hour operating flight + 5 hours at a JFK lounge + 10-hour deadhead. How would you handle this? Is this something you would consider a reasonable roster? And how would you set a firm boundary around one assignment without making an impulsive decision to quit the entire job?

any recommendations to get a good discount deal (using airline discount etc) on hotel by LGA?

I know a perk of this job is travel discounts, but sometimes the options and recommendations are so vast that it can be hard to know where to start.

basically I am staying a night by LGA and I need a hotel. my main goal is just convenient and affordable lol. any recommendations of where to look for best deal? many thanks ♥️

Have to fly or take train in next few days

I have a work trip booked from new jersey to vegas. Haven't flown in 8 years. I've flown about 12 times before. This time the month of anticipatory anxiety and stress I'm debating the train. I've tried reading soar, hypnotherapy, videos. Doesn't seem to be working. I know 50hrs on a train over 5 hours in a plane isn't practical , but can't get my mind over it. I have lorazepam which I've used before. Been even doing home tests runs. I'm feeling like it'll have to be the train unfortunately. I can't miss this work trip

Polaris Base Fare Refund

Posting this on here because I’m not sure where else to find this information. I’m traveling with 🌐, I’m an FA and a friend used a buddy pass to list for Polaris international. Cost was $343 but my buddy didn’t get Polaris however I was charged $343 on the card input it on. I think the base fare for economy was more like $150. How should I go about getting this refunded? Anyone else go through this? Thanks

FA hotel loyalty/membership

Just wondering if FAs get any benefits to using their personal hotel loyalty memberships?

Is there a way to get the hotels (mainly Marriott and Hilton) to apply us the night/stay credit so we can accrue higher status that way? Or do we have to contact the hotels?

Is there a higher chance we get the credits if we charge something to the room? Any pointers will help

CMAP still won’t work for me…

I have emailed. I have opted in. I have asked every TSA agent. Same thing every time “you’re not in the system.” It’s recognized me… twice? In however many months it’s been active. And every time I hold up my crew when the officer has to log back into KCM and THEN I get randomed. Is anyone still having problems with this?? It’s getting really frustrating esp when we have early vans anyways, and I tell my crew I need extra time and we have to leave earlier. I try not to make it their problem but it’s so irksome, especially when my airline nor TSA knows what’s causing it 🤦‍♀️ just lost in the void.

UPDATE: Taking off my glasses worked! Thrilled it was that simple, and can’t believe I didn’t think of that…. thanks everyone 😅

UPDATE 2: A day later, glasses off (SAME AIRPORT), “user not found.” Another day, another long KCM login and random. I take it all back- CMAP is still sh*t. 😭
