open How do I fix a broken wooden umbrella handle?

How do I go about fixing this? A while ago, I dropped the umbrella on the ground, it landed on the handle and split in two.

I have wood glue, but I don't know if using only that would be durable.

The two pieces still fit seamlessly. But due to continued use, the handle has smoothed off.

I also see that there is a screw that attaches the wooden handle to the metal part. Should I try to find a replacement handle?

(Sorry for the low quality photos, my camera is not so good...)

Wiring broke in my favorite lamp, I want to learn how to fix it

Hello all! This is my first time ever dealing with something like this (and with little to no knowledge) and I would love to know how to fix it. This is the wiring for one of my all time favorite lamps and I would love to know how to repair it instead of resorting to buying a new one. As you can see in the image, there are two wires: one black and one red. The black seems to be connected to a little metal base (not sure what it's actually called, my bad) and the red somehow got disconnected from the base. When I press the red wire onto the base, the lamp turns on! So it seems that the issue simply lies in the red wire being disconnected. So my question is, how do I reconnect the red wire to the base? Do I tape it down? Hot glue it down? Hopefully my description makes sense, looking forward to learning something new, thanks!

I just bought this table and I was assembling it last night, when my bf drilled a screw in too deep and it cracked the wood. It sucks cause i just bought this table for 300 bucks so i’m wondering if theres anyway to fix it. The table is wood and has a gloss over it. There’s two cracks, one that is deep and through the bottom of the edge; And the other is a horizontal line (hard to see on camera) that runs through the side. Let me know, any advice is appreciated!

Top right of door doesn't close. I've tried tightening the hinges. Clearly there is also that crack. Do you think I should shave off the top of the door?

Can't find the right fan for my Halloween inflatable

Thumbnail

When I took out our Halloween yard inflatable for the year, nothing happened. The lights inside turned on, but not the fan. I wanted to consider if maybe there was a way to save it instead of trashing it, and I found that the fans are pretty easy to replace.

I tried following the specs on the fan to find an appropriate replacement. 12V with 1.5A seemed to be the key, so I bought one. The replacements provided 5 lights instead of the three this one was designed for but hey, maybe that will light it up better! I take out the old fan, install the new one, plug it in in the garage and the fan roars to life, the lights turn on, and... the inflatable never fills up all the way. It's sagging and depressing. I spend 30 minutes looking for any air leaks, making sure the fan is secure, that everything is zipped up, I can't find any issues. And the entire time it doesn't fill up any further.

Maybe I got unlucky, so I return it, buy another one with the same specs, and look at plenty of reviews to see what people are saying and it looks like it's able to handle large inflatables well. I buy it, it comes in, I install it, plug it in... Same thing.

I don't get it. Am I missing something here? Is there an issue with the inflatable itself I'm overlooking? Do I just need to go for a more powerful fan? I would think as long as air is going in, it would at least eventually inflate to full size, but apparently, that's not the case.

Thoughts? Ideas? Should I let this one go and move on?

Fix a Vintage Mirror

Post image

I just bought this mirror, the quality was not what I was expecting. Is this fixable in this type of mirror? I don’t mind spending the money on the resilvering kits I just don’t want to mess this up. There’s three big streaks through it and some smaller streaks where the lady is. It looks like tape may have taken off some of the backing? Any advice would be helpful, I’m not sure I can return or get any money back for the purchase.

Why is my fridge making this noise?

And how do I stop it 😭 It’s driving me nuts! It only does this sporadically, but for long periods of time. It’s a GE GZS22IYNPHFS and about six years old.

It’s slightly louder when I open either door - that doesn’t stop or help the noise. It’s such a loud hum.

Frost-free outdoor spigot: do I still need to shut the inside valve for winter?

• Upvotes

We get pretty cold winters here (Michigan). The outside faucet is a frost-free type, and there is also a small shut-off valve on the pipe inside the basement. Every fall I just take the hose off and leave it. A neighbor told me I should also close the inside valve and open the outside faucet to drain it. Is that really needed with a frost-free one, or is taking the hose off enough? Anything else you do to get outside faucets ready for winter?

open How to repair a crack in an old oval frame?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My friend bought an old painting online, and the frame arrived damaged. She’s asking me to help her close the large crack in the frame. I have plenty of experience clamping rectangular objects, but not round.
A quick search mentioned a Bessey strap clamp, but it seems like that may force the frame to slide along the crack. Maybe trace the curve onto plywood and make a form for either side of the frame?

O-ring stuck to socket thread

Post image

I can't loosen this sucker! I've tried gripping it with my bare hand, a latex glove, and a rubber jar opener. The circuit breaker is off, but I'm hesitant to try pliers or any kind of lubricant. If you look above the glass, you can see one of the other four sockets, which I had no problem removing the o-ring from.

Phillips steam generator on iron broken

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! I need help, my moms has this Phillips Fast Care iron with a steam generator, it stopped producing any steam and instead water comes out in a large quantity from the bottom. I had issues with the water compartment clicking into place but it did after a few tries. It was regularly cleaned with the descale option.

Any help would be appreciated thank you!
