Hi all,
I keep seeing posts here from people who find their data in the Google Health app hard to make sense of. I'm in the same boat, so over the past few weeks I built **Healthier**: an open-source web app that connects to your Google Health account and shows your data in what I hope is a cleaner, more understandable way.
I know others have shared similar projects here, but none quite fit what I needed, so I made my own. It covers sleep, activity, heart rate, HRV, weight and more, and it runs in any browser, on a phone or a computer. It reads whatever feeds your Google Health account: Fitbit and Pixel watches, Android apps, even Apple Health on an iPhone.
**How to try it**
- **Host it yourself.** The code is on GitHub: https://github.com/cbukenya/healthier (AGPL-3.0). It runs with Docker, and your data stays on your own server.
- **Use the hosted version.** If you'd rather not run a server, there's an instance at https://healthiercloud.com. It's in early testing, so access is by request: email developer@healthiercloud.com from the Google account you use with Google Health. I'll add you to the test group and email you when you can sign in.
- **Just look around.** Choose **Demo mode** on the sign-in screen to explore a year of made-up data. No account needed.
**What it's built on**
- **Transparency.** An app that reads your health data should explain itself. Scores and insights show their working: the body battery, for example, lists what raised and lowered it.
- **Your data is yours.** Healthier only asks Google for read-only access. Your data is stored only on the server running the app, used for nothing else and never shared, and you can delete it from the Data tab at any time. (On healthiercloud.com, that server is mine.)
- **No AI in the insights.** There's no AI coach and no model guessing about your health. Every score and insight is plain arithmetic you can trace back to your own readings, and the same data always gives the same answer. AI can help write better algorithms, but letting it analyse your data directly would turn the insights into a black box.
- **Built in the open.** This is a first version, and some algorithms won't be as scientifically accurate as they could be yet. The idea is to improve them together, in public: anyone can open an issue, question an approach or suggest something better.
**A bit about me**
I'm a software engineer from Sweden with over 10 years of experience building apps like this, including time at one of the leading makers of fitness and health devices. Healthier draws on that experience, except this time the work is out in the open instead of behind closed doors.
**Where I'd love help**
- **Data science.** I'm not a data scientist, and I leaned heavily on AI tools to help write some of the algorithms. If you work with this kind of data, I'd really value your review, critique and improvements.
- **Translations.** It's English only for now. Every word lives in one file per language, so adding a language mostly means translating a single file.
Healthier is a wellness and data-visualisation tool, not a medical device.
Thanks for reading. All feedback is welcome, here or on GitHub.
