Investing Age 23, started investing exactly a year ago
My current ETF strategy is an 80/15/5 a200, BGBL and emerging markets but am wondering if this is too conservative? I feel like my portfolio has been underperforming and am unsure, willing to take more risk as I am young

Investing Vanguard managed funds vs ETFs – why does everyone seem to prefer ETFs?
I’m interested in hearing people’s thoughts on Vanguard managed funds vs Vanguard ETFs, particularly for long-term investing.
I personally quite like investing in managed funds. I find them simple and convenient, especially when setting up regular contributions. I like being able to automate investments without having to think about buying units on the ASX or worrying about brokerage for each purchase.
I understand ETFs can be more tax-efficient in some circumstances and can have competitive fees, but I’m curious whether there’s a meaningful difference in the long run once you factor in fees, tax and the convenience of regular investing.
For context, I’m investing for the long term (10–20+ years), so I’m not looking to trade or time the market.
A few questions:
If you’ve invested in both Vanguard managed funds and ETFs, which do you prefer and why?
Has anyone actually compared their long-term performance after fees and tax?
Are there any significant downsides to managed funds that I might be overlooking?
Does the convenience of automated investing outweigh the potential advantages of ETFs?
I’m not necessarily looking to switch, I genuinely like the simplicity of managed funds but I’d be interested to hear other people’s experiences and perspectives.

Net Worth Update 27M, just hit $500k saved. Not sure if I’ve done this right or wasted my 20s
Checked everything last night and I’m sitting at $503k. Should feel amazing but honestly it’s a bit weird.
Quick background: grew up in Blacktown (Sydney), left uni after a year, did an apprenticeship and now work in mining FIFO, 2 weeks on 1 off. Pay is good (around $160k), but I’ve basically spent my early 20s in a donga in the Pilbara. Missed two of my mates’ weddings and a fair few birthdays.
On my weeks off I live in a share house in Parramatta and spend almost nothing. No car, no girlfriend at the moment (probably related lol), haven’t been overseas since a Bali trip at 21.
Breakdown
HISA: $60k
Super: $115k
ETFs: $280k (mostly IVV, VDHG, some A200)
Crypto: $48k (bought in 2020, I know, I know)
No property, no debt
Here’s my question for the sub. My dad thinks I’m an idiot for not buying a unit years ago. My mates think I’m an idiot for not enjoying my money. And part of me wants to quit FIFO next year, take 6 months off and travel, which would set me back a fair bit.
Would you keep grinding for another 3–4 years while I’m young and have no commitments, or is this the time to actually live a bit?

Investing Moving from Custodial broker to Chess sponsored triggering
I am a long time user of CMC and was considering the swap to betashares direct as i only plan on DCA'ing in to GHHF for the long term. However the consideration i had is how easy is it to move back into a chess brokerage down the track if betashares for whatever reason becomes an unfavorable broker. I saw the $9.50 exit fee per security but was struggling to find a concrete answer on if CGT triggering could be easily avoided. I am assuming i am not the first to think of this so appealing to anyone who knows.

Getting Started ETF review
I have the following ETFs
- ASIA
- IVV
- QUAL
- VAS
As I understand there is some good level of diversification between them and I am not split across too many ETFs.
I put in roughly 25% into each on a frequent basis and have been doing so for about a year.
Any recommendations as I guess it would be better to correct now than too far down the track (only ~5k in there so far) 😀

Getting Started Starting off my ETF investment journey.
About to start with my investment journey with the following allocation per month
ETF %
DHHF 50%
NDQ 20%
BEMG 10%
RBTZ 10%
SEMI 5%
QNTM 5%
I have chosen RBTZ with the conviction that the next growth would be in robotics space.
I chose SEMI and QNTM because I believe in 3-4 years quantum chips would be the next big growth so taking some exposure now itself. I understand SEMI is already grown quite a lot but it feels the right ETF for this thesis.
I would be investing via Betashares Direct.
Overall I know there is overlap but after some research I feel the overlap is in single digits percentage which I am ok with given the exposure the ETF brings me. My only concern is if i am extremely tech focused with this portfolio.
Looking for any and all feedback.

Investing Not sure what to do now. 19M, in university no bills but new job pay is unstable and relatively low.
I do have 2k in HISA and 2k in cash, as well as my 3k tax return coming soon. Not sure what to do as of now as I do wanna save but unsure if not DCA’ing each week will impact my portfolio. It has been at a standstill for a couple of weeks, sorry if this is a dumb question.
^ also 8 or so months in

Career Trading US Options
Anyone trading US options (In Australia)? Just wanted to get an idea about how you manage the income statements during tax times, whether you treat it as a business income or CGT (Especially if you're doing it as a source of income). Based on what I read online, it needs to be treated as business income. Having doubts on how the records should be shown when lodging tax returns. A tax agent said that it should be based on CGT, but based on ATO guidelines it should come under business income, if there's significant volume. TIA.

Getting Started Just got my first big paycheck at 20, going to put most of it (1k) into DHHF, is that smart?
I know very little about finance, but from what I get, I’ll put in 1000 now into DHHF, and another 50 every week until I’m old, is that a waste because it’s so small or?

Investing Betashares GHHF DCA $50 p/w (41M)
Hello all,
Seeking advice, I started about 6 months ago and I’m happy to keep putting $50 p/w for the next 20 years or so until I retire.
I’ve read a few posts that suggest going with DHHF instead and just wondering if I’ve made the wrong choice?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Personal Finance What to do with 300k
Currently in the middle of either selling our house now or selling in a year. I understand the downfall and all and how it isn’t a good time to sell however due to a growing family we are wanting a bigger block/house and a new area.
If we sell our house now, we would rent for 6 months to a year just seeing where we would like to live (it’ll be around 5 hours from where we are now). And we will have about 300k left over from the sale of the property to do something with, what would be the best option?
We do want to buy another property in the next 6/12 months after we sell and when we find the right area so ideally wanting something that will make as much money as possible, as safe as possible in a short amount of time and that’s easy to move in and out of. Not sure if just having it in a bank savings account is our best option.
We wouldn’t have any debts after sale of home, and my partner won’t be working for the year as she births our second child so would only be my income so we wouldn’t be able to do an investment rental for a couple of years.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated and I might be dumb but who is the best person to professionally to talk about this? Is it a financial advisor?

Getting Started Bearish on AI - ETF Suggestions
First post, go easy on me if my logic is flawed.
I have ~$200k to invest, then a further ~$5k per month going forward. Originally I had decided on 80% GGBL / 20% GGOV as a natural hedge.
The issue is I personally feel AI is in its hype phase and worry some of the US Tech stocks have inflated valuations as a result.
Equally I dont want to compromise a long term investment strategy on what may be a short term view/opinion.
With that in mind, do I stick with GGBL and DCA or opt for a different leveraged ETF?

Personal Finance What should I prioritise next with my finances?
I am 28(M) on 178k before super/tax. My partner 28(F) earns about 92k working 4 days/week. We bought our PPOR in January which is worth approx 1.25m and have a loan of 490k, 90k offset.
I'm currently salary sacrificing up to the 32.5k cap with a balance of 130k and my partner is salary sacrificing $200/fortnight with a balance of approx. 60k.
I hold approx 25k in stocks and 25k in ETFs and my partner has no investments.
Neither of us have any debt but will potentially be needing new cars within the next few years (we both currently drive 15 year old cars). Will either go through a novated lease, or save and buy with cash.
We are also wanting to start a family within the next 2-4 years and so will be likely be on a single salary when this happens.
Given that the property we bought in January is a family home (ideally will support us for the next 15 years - or potentially longer/into retirement), I was planning to start investing more aggressively into ETFs via Debt recycling (about $500/week).
However given the current state of the economy (i.e seeing 25k/year interest servicing our loan) as well as a recent health diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis, im thinking about switching this up and just filling the offset.
I'd consider myself relatively risk adverse in the past but now that we've got the PPOR my long term strategy will be ETF's.
Appreciate any advice :)

Investing 30yo Male looking for guidance
Hi All,
I am 30yo and have recently started investing 1k a fortnight into GHHF. I have agonised over GHHF v DHHF back and forth for ages.
A own one IP and am currently building a second IP. Is investing GHHF too much leverage when I am already leveraged with the IPs?
Also how would things look closer to retirement? Would I not need to sell GHHF and reinvest causing multiple CGT events.
Thanks in advance.

Investing Actively managed small cap ETFs?
What are the actively managed small cap ETFs people are investing in on the ASX?
I like AVSV the most in terms of Avantis as a whole and their strategy. But the unresolved tax consideration for Australian investors makes me hesitate.
