Help Thread The Imperial Council - /r/eu4 Weekly General Help Thread: October 12 2026

Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Tactician's Library:

Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Humor Was anyone else watching Jeopardy last night and experiencing physical pain when the contestant answered that HRE Charles V was also king of France?

I think if I ever saw ”Von Habsburg“ over France on the map I would actually throw up.

Advice Wanted How to manage estates and Absolutism?

• Upvotes

Hi all,

So I’m playing an Austria game and I am staring at the Von Raab’s Restrictions mission rewards, one of the options gives me 20% manpower modifier if I keep noble estate influence above 80%. How can I do this with curtailing my ability to get absolutism, as each privilege I give the nobles reduces max absolutism? Or is it a case of it’s either good to lean heavily into estate privileges and ignore absolutism and also the other way around lean massively into absolutism and ignore estate privileges late game?

Question What is the purpose of forming Lübeck as Brandenburg?

I’m looking to play as Brandenburg and then Prussia, but I’ve recently seen recommendations to form Lübeck first. Could someone explain the advantages and the "meta" behind this? Thanks!

Advice Wanted Ck3 to EU4 = fun?

• Upvotes

A friend and I are just finishing our CK3 multiplayer game where we have been blobbing out like crazy. we want to convert our save to EU4, but im worried the game wont be enjoyable unless we break down our current empires, because we will simply be too OP from the start (I own most of europe and hes basically achaemenid persia) Problem is neither of us has played enough EU4 or done a conversion before to know what works and what doesn’t.

My question is: how to best set up the EU4 world so that we end up with a fun playthrough that isnt just two blobs painting the map but actually feels challenging, in your opinion?

If it makes any difference we both started as european dukes who left their lands to rule jerusalem after a crusade, then hybridized with the seljuk turks and converted to a syncretic muslim/jewish/christian religion, before blobbing like crazy thanks to these perks.

tldr: any ideas welcome to make our ck3 game map (blobbed out) more fun in eu4.

Video Particularlist rebels popping out of nowhere

I was playing a custom nation game when these particularlist rebels kept popping up out of nowhere. Any possible reasons for it? The save is modded with Europa Veritasis and Hardcore universalis.

Advice Wanted Best idea groups to tall tributarymax?

Playing as Japan, just united, 1474. Kept Hosokawan ideas for the -10% dev cost. The goal of the campaign is to stack T3 representatives of the crown, EoC mission mutual trade system, and japan mission Hegemon of Asia to get +3 monarch points per tributary and get a load of tributes, to then play super tall in Japan.

With this in mind, which idea strategy would be best?

1) Colonial: Exploration -> Expansion to reach NW and tributary new world tags

2) Clients: Influence -> Mercenary to make and release opm client states

3) Tall: take dev cost ideas like Aristo, Defensive, Infrastructure, Economic etc. to minimise dev cost first

Question Can you suggest any mod that would update generic missions?

• Upvotes

Vanilla generic mission trees are incredibly boring and have virtually no impact on the game. When I play as a country with such a mission tree, I completely forget about them. Is there a mod that updates generic mission trees? Temporary vanilla rewards that add little value to missions are of little use. Hoi4 has permanent bonuses, and every major mod (New Ways, owb, etc.) reworks the generic mission tree, but I haven't found one for Europe.

Suggestion Give me your handicaps

I would like to use some handicaps in my games from now on. Do you guys know a good self sabotage that makes the game more interesting?

I don't mind if these are more historical/roleplay-based or whether they are for a specific country. Hit me with anything.

Do you guys use these things, or do I just have too many hours in the game?

Question Is there a faster way to mass-build for large nations?

Is there a faster way to build buildings than 1 click per province? I have over 1000 provinces, and I'd like to build a university and town hall in all of them, ideally. Using the production interface for this is slow, because especially at this size, there's a short delay between each build. Even using an auto-clicker, this method would take a long time.

Question Replacing Idea Groups

I just got access to the Imperialism CB, so I figured I don't need Religious Ideas anymore. But what do I replace it with? Honestly, I rarely get this far in the game, and I'm also considering the newly added idea groups, particularly Infrastructure and Court.

Context: It's 1704, I'm Russia, Great Veche Republic (from Novgorod) and I control almost all of Asia except southern India, south-east Asia and Korea. I'm not that big in Europe yet; I control the entire Baltic coast, Poland and a chunk of the Balkans, but there's still a remnant of Lithuania alive, Hungary is huge (former ally), HRE still exists (though Austria is almost gone), Spain, France and England are all big and I haven't fought them at all. Ethiopia is surprisingly big, and allied with Portugal, but I want to take Suez from them to build the canal. My net income varies between +100 and +300. I've upgraded a ton of monuments.

My current Idea Groups are Administrative, Religious, Influence, Espionage, Quality and Quantity.

Offensive is definitely on the list of Idea Groups I still want.

I'm considering Innovative Ideas, although most bonuses are irrelevant to me now. The extra free policies sound great (is it really one extra free for each category?), but mostly it has excellent policies with Quality and Offensive. And I'm going to lose the Siege bonus from Quality+Religious if I drop Religious.

I'm also considering Infrastructure Ideas. Extra movement speed is nice in such a large empire. I forget which state maintenance bonuses help with my gov capacity, but I think it's in here. And I think the policy it has with Offensive ideas could be really nice: more movement speed, but also more artillery can be used in a siege, which is great with massive artillery armies. Probably better than other siege bonuses, as long as you have the artillery.

I used to consider Court Ideas, but looking at it, I think most of it is irrelevant to me now.

Anything else I need to consider? I'm not sure what other Idea Groups are still relevant to me. Perhaps Maritime or Naval? Maritime is probably the one diplomatic idea group that's still relevant. Maybe Humanist? I've got a ton of rebellions. Separatism is a real issue. On the other hand, they're not really a threat. I've got a few mercenary companies on duty to slap them down.

Question I have done a WC three times as Austria, but never as another country. I tried to conquer all of India as the Timurids, then conquer the world after the 1600's. But just before I was about to finish conquering India, I was... randomly attacked by the Ottomans? I don't understand what I did wrong?

What did I wrong throughout the game? I haven't even finished conquering India and they are randomly attacking me with a force impossible to win against? What is this? What is going on?

And the run became completely ruined.

Advice Wanted Is it too late for Burgundian Inheritance?

Post image

I got unlucky because Charles died earlier but chose Austria, so I 'restarted', but he hasn't died yet. Now they're choosing not to go for a PU, which I'm guessing is because its 1500. Is there a way to stop this happening, or is it just too late. I do have a save 1500 so I can just keep restarting until he dies but I don't want to. I've also had a good game so far so I don't want to restart the whole thing, and I've already had to restart my campaign a couple times.

Update: Thankfully it only took me a couple restarts for him to die!!!
